Chapter Text
“Day Three of convincing Lucifer to let me style his curls,” Trixie says.
“Are you recording me,” Lucifer asks, aghast. “Child, it’s not happening.”
“Please?” she tries, tilting her phone towards him.
“No,” he says, covering the camera.
She tries again the next day, of course. It takes almost two more weeks before he finally gives in.
“Day 15 of trying to convince Lucifer to let me style his curls,” Trixie says. “C’mon, Lucifer! I’ve watched, like, fifty tutorials.”
“How many times do I have to say no,” Lucifer scoffs.
“Ten thousand people agree you should let me.”
“Ten thousand? Let me see.”
She stops recording for a moment so she can show him the 10.3k likes she got on the last video.
“Bloody Hell,” he mutters. “Fine.”
“Really?” she exclaims. “Wait, say that again; I need to get it on video!”
Lucifer massages his temples in frustration. Trixie motions for him to repeat himself.
“Alright, child. I will let you style my hair this one time.” He sighs.
“Awesome.” Trixie grins.
She waits for him to wash his hair (she got lucky that she woke up earlier than him and Mom that day) and gets her supplies ready. It’s mostly kids’ haircare products, ‘cause she was gonna do it on Rory if he didn’t agree by Day 30. If Rory let her.
Finally, after a long time waiting, Lucifer steps out.
“Okay, urchin. Go on,” he says.
She puts in the curl cream and gel like the videos showed, then brush styles it. Lucifer complains a lot during the whole thing, but she ignores it. She grabs her hair dryer— glad that it came with a diffuser attachment, even though she doesn’t need to use it— and follows what she remembers all the tutorials said to do. She records the whole thing for her TikTok, of course.
“How bloody long is this going to take?” Lucifer asks incredulously after twenty minutes.
“You say that as if you don’t usually take, like, three hours getting ready,” Trixie scoffs.
Lucifer grumbles something she doesn’t care to pay attention to.
After another fifteen minutes, his hair is fully dry— she thinks. She scrunches out the gel cast with some hair oil.
“All done!” she says.
She records the final look.
“It looks so good!” She beams.
“I suppose it’s not too bad,” Lucifer says.
Trixie grins harder. That’s him basically saying he loves it. Not bad at all. Except for all the comments that flood in about how hot her mom’s partner is. That part’s really gross, but she ignores it like she did on the other videos.

obsessed with the idea of Trixie doing social media trends with Lucifer (and without him, too, ofc)
Chapter Text
This isn’t exactly how Chloe expected to be going on a date with Lucifer but, well, here they are, on a sting. She’s wearing a little black dress and hiding a gun underneath her dress.
“Reservation for Lucifer Morningstar,” Lucifer says.
“Of course, right this way,” the man says, leading them to a table.
Chloe keeps an eye out for their suspect, who’s supposedly attending a business meeting at this restaurant. She’s lucky Lucifer has contacts so he could schedule a last-minute reservation.
“We’re looking for a white man with black hair, around 5’8. Tattoo on his right wrist,” she reminds him.
Lucifer’s looking at the wine menu.
“And no drinking on the job,” she whisper-shouts.
“I can’t even get drunk,” he reminds her. “And, I’m wonderful at multitasking.”
“No drinking,” she repeats.
“Fine.”
Lucifer keeps looking at the menu (she knows better than to stop him) but Chloe keeps scanning the restaurant as subtly as she can.
“They have burgers and fries,” he says. “Your favorite.”
Chloe smiles. Fine, maybe dinner doesn’t have to be all—
She catches a glimpse of their suspect two tables away.
“Lucifer, look,” she says, tilting her head in that direction.
They’re not close enough to be able to hear any conversation that’s happening between the suspect and whoever he’s meeting with. There’s an empty table closer, but they can’t change tables now, right? She voices this to Lucifer and he scoffs.
“Darling, anything’s possible with me,” he says.
He calls over a waiter.
“Hello, darling. My lovely partner wants to sit at a table closer to the windows. Lovely view outside, isn’t it?” he charms.
“Yeah,” the waitress breathes out, distracted.
“Right, could we sit at the table next to that gentlemen?” Lucifer nods his head toward the suspect.
“Uh, of course,” she says, breaking out of her stupor.
“Wonderful.”
Chloe gets her phone out, ready to record evidence.

thank you to my friend for helping me brainstorm for this one!! <3 love ft calls with her
Chapter 3: green
Chapter Text
Stuck in traffic is the last place Lucifer needs to be right now. He didn’t come from Hell just to get trapped in another. He’s… adjusting to his new schedule, alright? He’s sending the Detective a text to let her know he’s on his way (🏎️💨), when someone honks. The light’s turned green. Lucifer fights the urge to flash his Devil eyes at the honker and steps on the gas.
Parking at the urchin’s graduation is another Hell loop (not his but someone’s, surely). Still, he manages to find a spot and rush over to where the Detective’s saved him a seat.
“Sorry I’m late,” he says quietly. “Traffic was Hell.”
Chloe rolls her eyes fondly at his quip.
“It’s okay, you didn’t miss anything,” she whispers.
He only has to wait a few minutes for Beatrice to walk across the stage with a wide grin on her face. She catches Lucifer’s eye in the crowd and smiles even harder. She waves to her mum and him as she walks off the stage. Unfortunately, Lucifer still has to sit through the rest of all these miscreants walking across the stage, none of which compare to the Detective’s offspring.
It’s worth it once the child joins the two of them and gives them both a hug. Family. Lucifer doesn’t think he’ll ever quite get used to this, and part of him doesn’t want to. He doesn’t want it to become so normal he takes it for granted.
Chapter 4: drag
Chapter Text
Lucifer loves sin. Not for the reasons humans suspect— he doesn’t care about souls as currency, he would actually rather they not join him in Hell (unless they’re truly horrible), and not necessarily as rebellion. Although, he did technically invent rebelling.
Literally.
No, he loves sin because it’s freeing. And desire, well, he knows desire better than anyone. Why not act on it? Really, he loves doing what he wants when he wants. Since the beginning of time.
That said, pride events are his favorite, have always been his favorite. Especially drag shows.
Performance, liberation, and rebellion all in one? Perfection.
He often finds himself at the shows, either watching as an audience or performing alongside drag queens. He never passes up an opportunity to sing or play the piano. Nobody does it better, after all.
Needless to say, when Rory and Trixie invite him to a drag show at Rory’s university, Lucifer is happy to join.
Chapter 5: foolproof
Chapter Text
It’s one of the busier days at the precinct, and one of Chloe’s tougher cases. Almost all her suspects lawyer-ed up immediately and even with Lucifer’s mojo, none of them gave up any crucial information. She’s looking back at her notes on the case, trying to find a new angle or some perspective. Something tells her she just needs a break from it.
My best ideas come in the shower, she remembers Ella saying.
“Detective, I have a foolproof plan to catch our killer,” Lucifer announces.
“Oh really?” Chloe mumbles, uninterested.
She stops him from telling her whatever crazy plan he must have.
“Actually, I think we should come back to this tomorrow morning,” she says. “I’m exhausted and I’ve already been working overtime for the past few days.”
She can’t keep having Olga stay longer, it’s costing her too much. And she’s already struggling as it is. A shower does sound really nice. When was the last time she slept for longer than four hours?
Chloe doesn’t feel herself falling asleep, but she does wake up in time to realize that Lucifer drove her home.
“Detective, you’re up just in time,” he said. “I checked you out with the correct procedures, not to worry.”
“Oh. Thanks,” she says groggily.
“Have you had dinner?” he asks suddenly.
“Uh…” Chloe’s stomach grumbles, answering the question for her.
But she’s so tired…
“Why don’t you take a shower and I’ll cook something up for you? Otherwise, you’ll just eat leftovers. Or wait until breakfast,” he says, sounding horrified at the last part.
Chloe’s too tired to argue, so she just nods. When her mind is a little clearer, she thinks maybe Lucifer isn’t so bad after all.
Chapter 6: biding
Chapter Text
Miss Lopez might say he’s spiraling. The doctor would say he’s “deflecting”, or “distracting” himself to “avoid” his “problems”. Or, at least that’s what he thinks she’d say, if Candy wasn’t sitting right there on the couch next to Lucifer. Instead, she says something about rash decisions. This was anything but.
It makes complete sense for him to run to Vegas after everything. It’s completely reasonable for him to get as shit-faced as possible and try every new— and old— drug he can get his hands on. It’s not crazy for him to have gotten extremely drunk at some bar and be enraptured by the gorgeous lady singing Fever, but not so charmed he forgets the Detective. Even still. No matter how hard he tries, she won’t leave his mind. He’s even so distracted, Candy manages to steal his wallet and ring. The wallet he couldn’t care less about. But the ring has sentimental value, so he needs it back.
It’s not insane that he’d married Candy to find out what his mum is trying to manipulate him into. She sure as Hell didn’t tell him about Chloe for shits and giggles. No, she has something planned and he needs to find out what. All while giving the Detective her choice back.
He was supposed to stay away for longer, maybe a month. But he missed Los Angeles, missed Lux. He missed… work. Okay, yes fine. He missed the Detective.
He isn’t expecting to see her so hurt.
She was supposed to hate him so much she wished for him to go to Hell. He would’ve gone already— if he had his wings. Even he isn’t so self-destructive he’d go the mortal way, lest he get stuck in a Loop again.
Part of him is glad she hasn’t moved on, then hates himself for thinking it.
Amenadiel doesn’t understand, at first, why he’d gone away. Why Lucifer had still asked him to watch over the Detective in his absence.
“I had to protect her!” he finally blurts. “From—”
“From you,” Amenadiel completes for him, understanding in his eyes.
He was only biding time until he lost her to Heaven, after all.
And yet— he can’t stay away. He tries to convince her she still needs him in her life, even just as partners. If he can convince her, maybe he can convince himself, too. He sings Eternal Flame to her, which he found on the abhorrent playlist on her phone, full of bad 90s jams. He hates that the smile on her face when she realizes who he’s singing for makes him want to stay. He hates how she makes him feel. He hates that she has that sort of power over him. He hates his Father, then he just hates himself. Because he can’t hate her.
So when Candy leaves, advising him not to screw things up with the Detective… he whispers to the air.
“I’m trying not to.”
He hopes with everything in him that he hasn’t already.
Chapter Text
He allowed himself to hope. He dared to dream that the Devil, for once, could have something— one thing. Then he sees the photo of Amenadiel with Chloe’s mum. His first thought is—
“So none of it— none of it was real?” he chokes out.
His mum reaches for him. He blocks her off.
“Don’t,” he warns. And he leaves her and Maze, and rushes for the Detective.
Because the second thought comes, unbidden and horrid.
Did Chloe know? Has she known all this time? Has she purposely made him vulnerable? And if yes, then why? What was all of it for?
Except when he goes to confront her, when he demands answers, her nose is bleeding. She looks terrified, and suddenly nothing matters except keeping her alive. They go to the precinct first, trying to get the antidote from Ella, but they have no luck. Amenadiel has no answers. The talentless artist doesn’t either.
Luckily for Lucifer, he has something in common with the recently deceased professor: they’re both destined for Hell. Lucifer will gladly go, because what is life without the Detective? He’s completely unmoored without her, so going back to Hell for a few hours will be no biggie.
“Don’t worry,” he tells Amenadiel. “It feels like a good day to die!”
He quickly discovers it is, in fact, not.

Chapter Text
Her heel traps his neck. He’s not quite sure how they got here but here he is, in a secluded booth at Lux. The Detective has a dangerous glint in her eye, like she’s had enough.
“Detective,” he says, trying to come off playful and sultry.
He’s not sure if he does, but he pretends like he did. She presses down her heel harder.
He swallows.
The Detective’s sleek, black heel moves down to his chest. He can’t help the smirk that plays at his lips.
She grabs him by the collar and pulls him close, so their faces are mere inches apart. His eyes flick down to her lips by instinct, smirk wiped off his face.
“Before we were even partners, you told me you wanted danger,” she reminds him.
“Yes,” he says.
Of course he remembers.
“I’m here to give it to you,” she tells him.
Lucifer is both very confused and extremely turned on.
“You don’t get to be jealous. You lost that right when you ran to Vegas and married a stripper,” she says.
The correction exotic dancer lays on his tongue, but he stays silent. She’s right. He lost her trust and he still hasn’t been able to get it fully back. She’s being cruel about it and...
He likes it.
He likes the way his chest burns. Likes that he can blame it on her heel piercing his chest. Likes that she’s the only one who can make him feel like this because he’s only mortal around her.
But why is she doing this now? She just went to the Axara concert with Ham Hands. And, well, unfortunately— for reasons unbeknownst to him— she seems to like Pierce.
“You spent an entire case ignoring me,” she spits, heel digging farther into his chest. “And then you act all insecure and tell me to be ‘careful’ around him— what does that even mean?”
He opens his mouth to speak, but she keeps going. She’s finally put her heel down, and he misses the pain.
“And even after agreeing to have dinner with Marcus—”
She did what?
“I can’t get you out of my head,” she says, voice like daggers.
He grins. He almost asks her to repeat that, before he remembers she’s furious with him at the moment.
“If you won’t be with me, at least you could have the decency to let me be with someone else,” she huffs.
That confuses him even more. Didn’t he just tell her she’s welcome to have whoever she wants in her life? He believes his exact words were there’s room in your life for all sorts of relationships.
“I—” he starts to say.
“I ask you to stay, and you shut the door in my face?” she demands.
But… he had to attend the bachelorette party, make sure all the party-goers were satisfied and safe. He takes his business at Lux very seriously; surely, she must know that?
“All through dinner, I could only focus on you.”

Chapter Text
He can’t believe he’s actually stepping foot in a Build-A-Bear. Him, the Devil, in a store full of little cretins running about. But— the urchin wanted some special edition stuffed toy in return for a favor from him. She’s getting quite good at making deals.
“Ooh, I want that one!” the child says, pointing to a blue teddy bear with little gold stars scattered all over it. “You even get to name your own star.”
Lucifer’s mouth quirks in a smile.
“Very well,” he says. “You remember our deal, yes?”
“One bear with one set of clothing or two accessories,” she recalls.
He nods approvingly.
“I want the two accessories,” she says. “So the stars aren’t covered.”
“Well, hurry up then. I don’t have all day,” he says, somewhat impatiently.
A sticky child bumps into him while running towards the back of the store. Lucifer huffs.
Lucifer scrolls through texts while the offspring stuffs the bear, tuning out the silly instructions of “creating” a heart for the stuffed animal. How ridiculous.
“Okay, I know what accessories I want!” the small human informs him.
She holds up a gold star and a toy smart phone.
“Why does your bear need a cell phone?” he asks.
“So she can text me if she gets lost,” she says, as if it’s obvious.
“You know it’s not alive, don’t you?” he asks, concerned.
What do they teach her at school? The urchin just rolls her eyes. She looks like her mother when she does that.
She runs up to the computers to name her bear. Lucifer waits impatiently as she does so, peeking at the screen. Not that he cares. He’s allowed to be curious.
Cassiopeia, she’s named it.
“Good choice,” he says quietly.
She smiles brightly back at him. They ring the stuffed bear up (Lucifer makes sure it comes in the condo-box) and exit the store. Apparently, the tiny human can’t wait to go home before naming her star, so he follows her to a bench nearby. He refuses on account of germs, but he peers at her phone so he can see what she’s doing.
“Now hold on,” he says, snatching up her phone. “It says here ‘star naming is not recognized by the… scientific community’? This is preposterous!”
“It’s a Build-A-Bear stuffie, Lucifer. No duh,” the urchin says.
“Would you like your star name to be recognized by the scientific community?”
“Sure, that’d be cool. But it’s impossible.”
“Nothing’s impossible for the Devil, urchin.”
He makes a call to an astronaut working at NASA who owes him a favor, one who he doesn’t owe him too greatly. He’s saving that contact for when the child is old enough to be president of Mars. The young lady seems confused at his request, but complies. She asks Lucifer what he’d like to name the star.
“What would you like to name the star, child?” he asks.
“Lucifer!” she says, smirking.
His voice absolutely does not crack when reciting that to the astronaut.
Notes:
the star wishes build a bear is an actual thing, it was too perfect to not include
Chapter 10: sincere
Chapter Text
Ella has watched Lucifer and Chloe be in love with each other before either of them could put that feeling into words. She’s noticed all the longing glances when they think the other isn’t looking, eavesdropped on hushed conversations, seen the way they both soften around each other. It can’t be anything other than love, not with how much they’re willing to sacrifice for each other.
She’s been sick of their dancing for years now. Sometimes, she just wants to lock them in the evidence closet together until they sort things out. She has told them to just get a room already, which both of them have ignored. She doesn’t think it’s clicked for Lucifer— how much he cares about Chloe. It’s why he does dumb shit like pretending not to care about Chloe for an entire case.
Ella’s in her lab when Pierce and Chloe leave the precinct together. One look at Lucifer and she knows something’s changed. He looks sincerely crestfallen. She wants to go over and comfort him, but he leaves before she can. She ends up sending him silly memes instead, hoping it’ll cheer him up.
Chapter 11: storming
Chapter Text
Lucifer isn’t quite sure what he did to upset the urchin. She’s storming into his penthouse and kicking him in the shin while throwing insults at him.
“Your hair is stupid, and your jokes are immature. And, what kind of person puts a bar that big inside their house?” she fires at him.
“My hair is majestic and you know it,” he retorts.
Really, insulting his hair is crossing the line.
“Grown ups are supposed to be responsible!” she scowls.
“Oh, are they? Well, I’ll show you responsibility,” he says. “You’re banned from the penthouse for a month.”
She just stares at him angrily. Not quite the reaction he’d hoped for, but no matter. He has bigger things to worry about right now.
“C’mon, Dad. Let’s return this… miniature hooligan to her father,” he says.
He turns around to see his Father’s passed out on his piano, which… case in point. What a waste of the good stuff.
Chapter 12: list
Chapter Text
Domesticity is new for Lucifer. He finds it surprisingly wonderful, though he still enjoys throwing parties— even if they’re more PG these days. It’s Rory’s fourth birthday this weekend so he and Trixie are grocery shopping for the party their throwing. Chloe had sent him a list of things they need, but he and the child have their own ideas.
“What about this balloon?” she asks, pointing to a horrid balloon with smiley faces all over it.
“Are you joking?” he answers.
She rolls her eyes and picks out one shaped like a star. “This one?”
“Not bad, urchin,” he concedes. “Now, where’s the… pasta sauce? Why would we get the premade sh—tuff from jars?”
“Because we don’t have time to make our own pasta sauce for, like, fifty people. And Mom has better things to do anyway.”
“Fine. Marinara or Alfredo?”
“Neither. Pesto is the best pasta sauce to buy in-stores.”
She picks one out and puts it in the cart.
“You’re taking too long,” she says suddenly.
He almost retorts, but he remembers the Detective— sorry, Lieutenant now— saying something about little children becoming more impatient when they become teenagers and also something about responsibility. So he lets her take the reign, following her lead while they get the rest of the groceries and party supplies. Trixie really is growing up disturbingly quickly.
He takes a picture of her at the self-checkout and sends it to Chloe.
Chapter 13: kill
Chapter Text
Chloe’s tried all her usual tricks on their suspect. She’s tried riling them up, asking questions about the case they’re not supposed to know the answer to, making sure their story’s consistent… nothing gives. If they did it, Chloe isn’t getting a confession. And her gut tells her they did.
She pulls Lucifer aside.
“They’re good,” she tells him. “I can’t get ‘em to talk. And if I say anything else, they’re gonna lawyer up.”
“You need me to go in for the kill?” he grins dangerously.
Chloe nods. She hopes she never gets on his bad side.
Lucifer stalks over to the suspect and leans close. She hopes he’ll have some tact this time around, now the stakes are raised. Should she have reminded him not to throw any threats?
Lucifer pulls a chair next to the suspect.
“Why’d you do it?” Lucifer asks, like he’s bored. He probably is.
“I’m not telling you anything,” they spit.
“Ooh, I do love a challenge.”
“What makes you think I’ll talk to you? That other detective couldn’t get a word outta me.”
“Detective Decker may be excellent at her job, but I have a few tricks of my own. And everyone breaks eventually.”
Lucifer inches his chair just a bit closer and leans toward the suspect.
“What did you want? Hm? Why did you end her life?” he asks.
Chloe watches as they struggle not to answer Lucifer. It’s amazing, how he can get anyone to talk.
“I… She was so annoying. I just wanted her to shut the hell up. Forever,” they finally confess.
She could swear Lucifer’s eyes actually flash red for the shortest second. She shudders.
Get it together, she tells herself.
“I believe there’s your confession, Detective,” Lucifer spits angrily.
“Yeah, good work, partner,” she says through the intercom.
She doesn’t have time to check in with him; he’s already leaving the precinct when she enters the interrogation room to handcuff the suspect.
Chapter 14: long haul
Chapter Text
When Chloe first started working with Lucifer— or rather, when he weaseled his way into her life— she thought it would be a passing thing. He was arrogant, rude, selfish… she figured policing was a shiny new toy he’d get ride of in a few days. A week, max.
But he stuck around. And almost ten years later, it’s clear he’s in it for the long haul. Even though she’s Lieutenant now and he’s Hell’s healer, he stops by the precinct pretty often to help her on cases.
Always the Detective, he teases.
She knows he enjoys it as much as she does, though. Every so often, he’ll tell her about a Hell Loop he’s having trouble sorting out and they’ll look at it like a case. It reminds Chloe of the time they’d gone through Jimmy Barnes’s Loop.
Most of the time, though, he gets to be here with their daughters.
“I call… shoe,” Lucifer says, sharing a knowing look with her.
“I call top hat,” she says, smiling at him.
“I guess I’ll be the race car,” Trixie says.
“Puppy!” Rory calls.
And they play a nice, long round of Monopoly that has even Lucifer exhausted by the end of it.
Chapter 15: swerve
Chapter Text
Rory is finally old enough that the Det— er, Lieutenant— can teach her how to drive. He wants to take her in her mum’s car, but then it can’t be worse than the other Rory driving his car.
He suddenly remembers a much older Rory purposefully swerving rapidly on a left turn and slamming on the brakes at a red light.
Right. This Rory doesn’t want him dead or injured, so… should be a piece of cake. In comparison.
When he asks Chloe for her input, she advises against the Corvette.
“Lucifer, that car is like— well, it’s your prized possession. And Rory’s just starting to learn to drive. Once she gets her license, maybe then she can drive it. For now, my old car will have to do,” she tells him. “Trust me, you’ll be glad once you get in the car with her.”
“It can’t be worse than a purposely bad driver,” Lucifer mumbles.
She gives him a look. “We’ll see. You can tell me all about it afterwards.”
Half an hour later, after a close call with a trashcan, two trees, and five curb bumps, he concedes. He should’ve listened to the Lieutenant when she told him to stick to parking lots for their first lesson.
Chapter 16: freedom
Chapter Text
“Why does changing careers matter so much to you?” Lucifer asks Ms. Decker.
“Hm, I dunno. I watched my dad a lot growing up, solving cases. Getting justice,” she says. “But my parents were always so against it. They were just trying to protect me, I guess.”
“Seems you and I have more in common than you think,” he tells her.
“Really? How so?”
“Defying expectations.”
He pauses, then says— more serious now— “Freedom to choose who want to be.”
“And who do you want to be?” she asks.
He looks at her, pondering for a moment. He breaks into a grin.
“You mean what do I desire?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Y’know that’s my line, Miss Decker.”
She rolls her eyes.
Chapter 17: understudy
Chapter Text
In the beginning,
Lucifer was just a consultant.
He came outta nowhere into Chloe’s life, with an attitude and sounding like a good-for-nothing playboy. He seemed to care about Delilah, but she couldn’t seem to figure him out. It seemed like nothing mattered to him, but then she saw the scars. Literal, huge scars.
It’s not until he risks his life in a hangar for her and her daughter that she can truly call him her partner. Even then, he doesn’t make her job easier. He’s more of a… an understudy, really. Not that he’d ever wanna be a detective. Actually, she still doesn’t know why he works with her, especially when nobody else wants to, even now.
Nobody “replaced” him when he ran off to Vegas, even though her cases were piling up. Even though her closure rate was the best in the department.
He’s the only one who wants you, it was like the universe was telling her. Well, wanted. Not anymore.
He’s got a shiny new toy hanging on his arm, dressed in all pink and everything fake. It shouldn’t have bothered her, but it does. It makes her blood boil. She thought their partnership meant something to him. She thought she meant something to him. But he was just looking for something new and exciting, and the moment he got it, he took it and ran.
Chapter 18: endeavor
Chapter Text
Lucifer and Chloe are going through another loop of someone they’d met on Earth while working a case. This one brings slightly unpleasant memories with it, but they’re both more focused on Anders Brody. He’s in his glass house, lounging on his office chair as he reads the newspaper.
Brody launches his biggest endeavor yet: setting foot in space.
“Ugh, I hate space,” he says to himself. “I hope they don’t actually make me do that.”
Lucifer grins.
“Well, I think I know where this is going,” he whispers to Chloe.
She rolls her eyes. “Lucifer, we’re supposed to be helping.”
“Yes, yes,” he dismisses. “I still need to see how the entire loop plays out before I can truly help him.”
Their setting changes to Brody going through a simulation of the Mars Project he’d worked on. He goes pale and shuts his eyes through the whole thing. His eyes shoot open when the simulation makes a noise and he almost passes out. When it’s over, he stumbles out and grips the closest thing available, looking ready to puke.
“Hello, Mr. Brody,” Lucifer greets.
Chloe keeps a distance, watching in slight exasperation.
“Lucifer? You… what’re you doing here?” Brody asks.
“Ah, well, you’re in Hell. And I’m the Devil. Normally I’d be here to torture you, but things have been running differently for a little while now,” Lucifer says.
Brody blinks in confusion. Lucifer sighs. It’s a normal reaction, but it does get a bit… tedious, even Chloe will admit.
“What is it you desired during your time on Earth, Mr. Brody?” Lucifer asks, trying to speed things along.
“I… I wanted to be the best, the richest, the most powerful,” he blurts. “What the hell, man? Again?”
“Again?” Lucifer asks.
“Whatever. I don’t know what this is, but I don’t have to talk to you, or the cop lady who tried to arrest me that one time.”
“What are you talking about?”
Chloe clears her throat. “Right, uh… Lucifer, there’s something you should know.”
Lucifer raises an eyebrow at her.
Chapter 19: rent
Chapter Text
Another day, another crime scene— and Lucifer is nowhere to be seen. Their victim is a man in his late 30s, who’s been dead for 48 hours before someone called it in. They found him with a knife in the side of his neck.
“He hadn’t been paying his rent for the past three months. Landlord thought he was just going through something,” Ella tells them. “Marks on his neck, so he was definitely strangled before the— y’know.”
She motions stabbing her neck.
“Anything pointing to who might’ve been responsible?” Chloe asks.
“Maybe… it looks like he was living with someone, so they’re either responsible or left right before this guy was killed. Or they ran after they saw him,” Ella says.
She looks around the crime scene. “Hey, where’s Lucifer?”
“Right here.” Lucifer waltzes in.
Chloe tries not to roll her eyes. “Ella, mind catching him up? I’m gonna check out the other rooms, see if I can find anything.”
Ella nods.
