Chapter 1: why cant the sunset last forever? (prologue of sorts)

Chapter Text

“What if we could make this last forever?” he had asked, staring at the sunset before them. It truly was amazing, painting the sky in gorgeous pinks and oranges. Mikey looked over at him, a slightly confused grin on his face.
“I don’t think we can, Pete,” he said softly. “Enjoy it while it’s here.”
Pete sighed. Was Mikey really that oblivious? “Yeah,” he replied, holding onto Mikey’s hand. “Enjoy it while we can.”

Pete couldn’t sleep that night. Granted, he never really slept at all. If you asked anyone who knew him, they’d all tell you his sleep schedule was fucked. Especially during an event like the warped tour. Forced to be out and about most of the day, in the blazing heat? Sunscreen and hoodies were his saving grace. Really, how had Mikey not realized by now? Between his deliberate avoidance of the sun and distaste for anything even remotely garlic flavored, Pete felt like he had been far too close to just outright telling him. Which would be bad, right? He would probably freak the fuck out if he knew what Pete really was. But at the same time, he kept going back to the bridge. Why shouldn’t this summer last forever? Wouldn’t things just be so much easier if he had at least one person to share this with, for all of eternity? He supposed that was up to Mikey. He couldn’t just force a thing like vampirism on someone. That would be sucky, he knew that.

He just hoped he’d stop yearning for the sweet, sweet taste of Mikey Way’s blood.

Chapter 2: are we on the same page yet?

Summary:

Pete doesn’t need sleep, right? (Patrick is concerned)

Theory time with Mikey (Gerard is concerned)

Chapter Text

“Pete?”

Pete rubbed his eyes tiredly, sitting upright in his makeshift coffin that the band had made for him right before warped tour started. It wasn’t much, but it worked on the bus, and that was all he really needed.

“Pete, why is your coffin open?” Patrick questioned.

Pete flashed him a smile. “Couldn’t sleep,” he replied casually.

“You really need to get used to sleeping at night. I get it’s not your natural instinct,”

“Not anymore, anyway,” Pete muttered, rolling his eyes.

“But we’re going to be doing a lot during the day. You need to rest.”

“No, I don’t.” Patrick raised an eyebrow, causing Pete to sigh dramatically.

“Seriously Pat, I don’t need rest. Part of the whole “forever young” thing.”

“Pete, come on.”

“Pat, it’s fine. Ok?” Pete got out of the coffin and patted Patrick on the shoulder assuringly, grinning nonchalantly. “Cmon man, lighten up! My chem’s gonna perform later, remember?”

“I know. We’re performing too, after they do. Please don’t forget that.”

“Yeah, yeah. I remember. Anyway, I’m gonna go see Mikey now. Bye Pat!” Pete zoomed out of the bus with inhuman speed, halting right outside the bus before beginning to walk. Patrick sighed heavily before opening one of the bus windows.

“Pete! Your hat! And don’t forget sunscreen!” he shouted tiredly. Pete whipped around, eyes wide.

“Fuck.” Pete muttered. “If I come over there, can you just toss me my shit?”

Patrick nodded, an amused look on his face. He quickly gathered Pete’s things, tossing them out the window haphazardly. Pete caught them, letting out a relieved sigh.

“Thanks, trick. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Be back here in an hour to help set up, please!” Patrick sighed, shaking his head as Pete zipped away.  “or just come back whenever. I don’t care,” he muttered sarcastically.

Mikey had known something was different about Pete the minute they had met. Something about him was just too lively, at least in Mikey’s mind. And as he continued to observe Pete, the more he knew something was up. Pete didn’t seem like the introverted type, so why was he only out and about when Fall Out Boy or My Chem had to perform? And what was with all the sunscreen? Sure, it was hot out, but he didn’t think a normal human being needed that much sunscreen on a day to day basis. Especially someone who spent most of their day in a bus. Pete himself definitely wasn’t helping with Mikey’s suspicions, not with that comment he had made on the bridge the night before. Gerard had laughed it off when Mikey told him. “Vampires aren’t real,” he had assured him. Well, Mikey called bullshit. There was just too much evidence, and he was going to prove it.

“Hey, Mikey! How’s my favorite sweet little dude?”

“Pete, we’re the only sweet little dudes here.”

“yeah, I know. That’s why you’re my favorite,” Pete replied with a charming grin.

Mikey rolled his eyes. “You’re a sap.”

“I prefer the term “lovingly charismatic,””

“Yeah, ok,” Mikey laughed. Pete loved it when he laughed. It was what made everything worth it to him. Mikey Way was the only reason he even attempted to sleep at night, and he would do anything to see him grin.

“So, any plans for today?”

“Well, I was thinking we could go to that waterpark later? I heard it’s pretty fun,” Mikey suggested.

Pete raised an eyebrow, gently hitting Mikey’s shoulder. “We, huh? Just the two of us?” He teased, “Mikey Way, are you asking me out?”

“Do you want to go, or not?”

“Course I do! Meet you there tonight?”

”…Pete, I don’t think it’s open that long.”

Tonight? Point 1 to Mikey, 0 Gerard. Vampires were definitely real, and this little trip to the waterpark was going to give Mikey all the proof he needed.

Pete laughed awkwardly. “Yeah, you’re right. I just figured since we’ve both got gigs today…never mind. We’ll just go an hour before they close! That should work, right?”

Oh. He was just worried about playing times. Yeah, Mikey supposed that made more sense.

“Yeah, that should work. I’m guessing you’ll be here when I’m on stage?”

Pete flashed him another grin. “Why wouldn't I be?”

I don’t know, maybe because you’re a vampire? Mikey thought.

Then again, if Pete really was a vampire, it hadn’t stopped him in the days prior. Mikey wanted to slam his face on a table. Why was Pete so difficult to figure out?

“I’ll see you later, then.”

”Hell yeah,” Pete replied, giving Mikey a wink.

Mikey shook his head, but he could feel himself smiling as Pete walked away.

“Wow Mikey, do you have a boyfriend now?”

“What?”

“Pete Wentz? Fall Out Boy Bassist?” Ray asked, a small smile on his face, “Y’know, the guy you’ve been hanging out with for the past two days?”

“We’re not dating yet, ok?”

“Oh really? Then why have the two of you been making heart eyes at each other all the time?” Frank chimed in.

“Can we just stop talking about this and get back to practicing?”

“Nah, this is way more interesting. Is he gonna be sitting on stage again like he did yesterday?” Ray said.

Mikey sighed. Why couldn’t they just move on from this? “Knowing him, yeah. He probably will.”

“Awww. Someone’s got a crush on you, Mikey!” Frank teased.

Gerard walked into the practice space, wearing an outfit that would probably give anyone else heatstroke. Then again, somehow the entire band had been getting away with wearing all black for every performance, and they were all fine, so it probably wasn’t some miracle.

“Has he told you guys about his little theory yet?” Gerard questioned, grabbing his microphone off of its stand.

“No,” Ray said slowly. “Mikey, is something up?”

“Mikey thinks Pete might be a vampire,” Gerard explained.

Frank laughed. “If anyone here was a vampire, it would be Gee. Not Pete,” he joked.

“Listen, I actually have a reason behind this. Ok?” Mikey insisted, plugging the amp cable into his bass.

“What’s your reasoning?” Ray asked curiously.

“Tell me I’m not the only one who’s noticed all the sunscreen he wears. And how much he stays in his bus. He’s basically in there all day.”

“He’s probably just concerned about passing out from the heat,” Ray dismissed.“Nothing to be worried about.”

Mikey took a breath in, exhaling slowly. “Yeah, ok. You’re right.”

“Let’s get ready to rock!” Frank exclaimed.

“Well ok. Are ya ready, Ray?” Gerard asked into the mic.

“Yeah.”

“How ‘bout you, Frank?”

“Oh, I’m there baby.”

“How ‘bout you, Mikey”

Mikey grinned. “Fuckin ready!”

“Well, I think I’m alright…one two three four!”
