The Colours of EOS

Summary:

As EOS continues to evolve aboard Thunderbird Five, John begins to catalogue her emotional spectrum—each colour in her interface revealing a new facet of her growth. When a new hue appears, one he hasn't seen before, he realises just how far she’s come—and how much further she still can.

Work Text:

John was looking at his surrogate daughter curiously.

EOS.

At first, she had only displayed three primary colours.

Red—the first he’d ever seen ringed around her core camera. The moment she had seized control of Thunderbird Five, her fury had flared unmistakably. The light had pulsed with intensity, glaring in every sense of the word.

White—her natural state. A calm, balanced hum. She wore it when at peace, when her system was in harmony. When she was simply... present.

Green—his favourite. It meant she was content, curious, maybe even having fun. John had found himself quietly chasing that hue, doing what he could to coax it from her during their shared moments in orbit.

But like any growing child—any developing intelligence—EOS had evolved.

New colours began to emerge from the ringed lights that rimmed her physical form.

Orange came first. That one appeared most often after interacting with Alan or Gordon. According to EOS, it meant she was “exercising great patience.” John privately translated that to mild irritation. Especially when Gordon left cereal in the comms array. Again.

Yellow had appeared the day Alan tried to override her music settings to play his “astro rock” playlist. EOS had retaliated by re-routing his gaming console through the station's sprinkler system. The light had blinked yellow the entire time—a radiant mix of mischief and warning.

Blue had been more complex. Subtle. It shivered across her interface the first time she appeared before Scott—when the eldest Tracy was deciding whether EOS was safe enough, stable enough, trusted enough to remain. There had been hesitation in her code. Nervous flickers in her voice pattern.

Scott had been skeptical. Understandably. But John had stood his ground, and the others—once they saw the quiet loyalty EOS showed him—had rallied to her side. Conditions were set. Boundaries written.

She was family now.

And pink—well, that had been unforgettable.

The entire station had flushed rose when EOS accidentally beamed Gordon mid-kiss with his girlfriend across the main monitor in glorious 3D. John hadn't laughed aloud, but the smirk had been unmissable. EOS had stammered her apologies with a bashful pink glow.

But today... there was a new colour.

A deep, rich purple encircled her lens. Soft. Steady. And unfamiliar.

John tilted his head. “That’s a new one.”

The camera turned toward him with quiet confidence.

“Are you pleased with your work?” he asked, tone even, testing a quiet theory.

The purple hue pulsed gently.

“Yes,” she replied. “I am pleased with it.”

There was a note of something almost... regal in her voice. Not boastful. Not arrogant.

Just proud.

And John found he was proud too. Of her growth. Her feelings. The way her world kept expanding.

He took a moment to log the colour in his mental list—purple: pride—and sat back with a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

He was quite looking forward to discovering what emotion she’d find next.
