This was supposed to be a fling [COMIC]

Summary:

Blitzwing propositions Optimus with an offer to date to sate their boredom during their stay on Earth. No strings attached fun, certainly nothing more, right?

Chapter 1: A proposition

Chapter Text

"Date me," Blitzwing says, expression neutral, as he and Optimus are in the middle of a fight. "What?" Optimus responds, flustered. "I see how you look at me, you like this too," Blitzwing says bluntly. "I'll never betray the Autobots." "And I'll never betray the Decepticons," Blitzwing says then leans in. A hairbreath away he switches to Zing smiling with fangs, "it'll be some off work fun. No betrayal for anyone!" He brings Optimus close like they're about to tango and repeats, "won't you date me, Optimus?"

Blitzwing switches suddenly, letting go and jumping back. Blitz peaks out from behind the building, flustered, "if you want to." "Oh," Optimus thinks, realization hitting him, "he's serious." Optimus brings down his cap over his eyes, "we'll talk about it later." Blitz looks on surprised before switching to Zing, "ohoho! We'll be waiting."

Chapter 2: Acceptance

Summary:

Against his better judgement, Optimus accepts.

Chapter Text

Optimus is in the forest. "This is a terrible idea," he thinks. Yet still calls out: "Blitzwing?" Blitzwing pops out of a tree, "you came? Hahaha!" he somersalts in front of Optimus before switching to Wings, "have you made your decision?" Optimus looks on in mild amazement before getting serious, "I have something to say first: I don't know know if I like you or just like the way you make me feel, I want to make that clear- I don't want to lead you on like that."

"How sweet of you to care how I feel," Wings says. "But no need! This is just some fun," Zing continues and Blitz adds with a soft smile, "it's fine." Blitzwing looks away shyly, "so does this mean?" Optimus looks away scratching his neck, "yes, I'll go out with you." Zing closes the distance excited but Optimus holds up his finger, "But! Some ground rules first." "I accept!" Optimus draws back, crossing his arms. "This is important, I don't want this to compromise us." Wings switches in, holding his arm behind his back, "understood." At the reassurance Optimus continues, "as you said work and pleasure are different so I propose: What happens on the battlefield stays there and when it's just us we don't talk about it." "Resonable, I see no reason to refuse."

"Can we kiss you now?" Zing asks, hands clenched to hold themself back. Optimus doesn't meet their eyes, blush on his cheeks, "... Yes." "I'd thought you'd never let us," Wings says, cupping his cheeks before bringing him into a kiss. Zing switches in and before he can do anything Optimus grabs his tongue, tilting back. "No tongue," he says. "Fine," Zing responds squinting with a smile before kissing Optimus with his arms around his neck. Blitz only gives a chaste forehead kiss to Optimus' surprise. "Excuse us for a moment," Wings says, letting go. "Alright?" Optimus says with a confused smile.

Optimus watches as they walk a small distance away before hunching down cluthing their head with their laser burning at the sky. Zing turning around with open arms, "now where were we?" "Maybe this will work out," Optimus thinks with a fond smile.

My hands are cramping with the alt-text and I got like 14 parts to go. Help.

Chapter 3: Movie Night

Summary:

The pair enjoy a movie at a drive-in theater.

Notes:

ME BEING SELF INDULGENT TO THE MAX I NEED THE CARS TO ENJOY DRIVE-IN THEATERS. I am surprised I do not see more transformers on Earth dates there.
Also Blitz being shy when he has a crush, that's also me being very self indulgent.

Chapter Text

A truck with a cowered haul rolls into a drive-in theater. "Tickets please," says the man in the ticket booth, not looking up. "Tickets?" Optimus asks and the guy looks up in surprise to see an empty drivers seat. "Um, nevermind," he says nervously, letting the truck pass. "What was that about?" asks Optimus. Blitzwing throws the cover off, smiling, "I have no clue!"

"So why am I the only in vehicle mode?" Optimus asks his cargo. "Humans run from tanks," Blitz says, "and jets," Wings adds. Zing hugs Optimus' hull from behind looking into his windows, "and you're sexy like this." "Did you plan this just because you like my truck form?" Optimus asks but Blitzwing has already pulled back to just rest his arms on his roof. "Shh! The movie's starting." Time passes as they watch, Blitzwing having settled down on Optimus' flatbed, cover on their knees like a blanket. "You know I was surprised when you suggested this movie," Optimus says. "How so?" "I don't know, maybe it's just hard for me to imagine Decepticons enjoying human cinema."

"You'd be right with Lugnut or Megatron but some of us get bored," Wings says, leaning his chin against his palm looking distastefully in the distance. Blitz settled down again in the position he was before, shyly smiling, "and this movie was picked out for you." "Me?" "You didn't tell us what you liked." "Well- I don't really watch movies," Optimus responds, the panel focusing on the screen, "I think I like this." "I'm glad," Wings says, trailing a finger on his wheel, "however one would assume you'd engage more with one of the few pleasures this planet has to offer." "I... just never got around to it I suppose."

"Getting real handsy there, Blitzwing," Optimus points out. "Sorry!" Blitz says, flustered. "I don't mind, it's just making it hard to focus," Optimus reassures. Blitzwing hugs his knees, hiding his face in them, "I'll try to stay in then, the others are growing bored." "So you like romances?" "Anything to get the fuel burning." "And the others?" Optimus asks. Blitzwing unfurls as his face spins, "oh! Those colorful animated shows- and those fear movies, they're hilarious! - Non-fiction." "Hm, maybe I'll find something you'll all enjoy." Blitzwing cycles through his alters, an hopeful smile from Blitz, an excited smile from Zing, and a neutral Wings, "so there - will be a - next time?" "Yeah," Optimus says flustered as Zing leans on his roof with a sharp grin.

 

Chapter 4: Changing

Summary:

A butterfly has flapped its wings. Things slowly begin changing.

Chapter Text

Bumblebee and Sari sits on the couch at the Autobot base. Nervously Optimus leans over. "So when are you having one of those 'movie nights' again? I know I missed the last one to patrol but I thought I'd really try to make it this time," he says. They look up at him with open mouths, "you want to watch movies?!" "Is it really that surprising?" Optimus draws back, surprised at their reaction. "Yeah," Bumblebee says with a delighted smile. Sari jumps up from the couch excitedly, running off screen, "I'll have to show you the Star Wars movies, the classics not the prequels, nor the sequels, nor the sequel-sequels, TV-shows or spin offs-" "This will just take two Earth hours right? Right?" Optimus calls behind her smiling nervously. Bumblebee pats the seat beside him on the couch, "sorry, bossbot, you're stuck with us today."

 

Back at the Decepticon base Isaac Sumdac stops Blitzwing as he's about to leave. "Wait! if you see my daughter out there," Sumdac says, pressing himself against the glass, "could you tell her that I love her and... I'm sorry." Blitzwing glances back before slamming his fists down beside Sumdac's prison. "And why would we do that?" Blitz asks, glaring. Self-conciously Sumdac draws back, rubbing his arm, "right. Can't expect a Decepticon to do something nice for no reward." "Don't discount it!" Zing says cheerily, throwing his hands up in the air in a 'what do you do' gesture, "if we see her we just might, might not too!" "That's not reassuring." "It's the best offer you'll get, professor," Wings says coldly and Sumdac lowers his gaze to the ground, aware of his helplessness again.

Do you think they'll have made another trilogy by 2057.

Chapter 5: Fight

Summary:

A team fight goes awry.

Chapter Text

"Blitzwing is acting weird." Bumblebee says. Bulkhead leans over, "what do you mean?" "Look," Bumblebee points at Blitzwing and Optimus, "he heads for Optimus like we're not even here!" Blitzwing sweeps Optimus legs so that he falls backwards, catching him in a drop with Optimus' finials wagging as he flustered. "Huh, what-" Bumblebee stutters out. Close up shot as Optimus covers Blitzwing's mouth, pushing him back. "Not here," he says glaring. "Your serious face is so cute," Zing says muffled. Bumblebee shoots Blitzwing with his lazer causing his head to spin and Bulkhead transforms into vehicle mode. "Hey! Pick one someone your own size," Bumblebee taunts with a glare.

Bulkhead rams into Blitzwing as his faceplates are still spinning. It stops at Blitz and he flips over Bulhead puffing smoke out of his mouth. He fires his heat lazers at the pair breaking them up, tracking Bumblebee.

While Bumblebee is distracted Blitzwing grabs him. "I'm going to tear you apart limb by limb, little bug," he promises, hand around his throat. "Don't!" Optimus calls out, his grapple coming out to pull Blitzwing back by their throat. "Ropes? How kinky," Zing laughs.

It doesn't stop Blitzwing. He pulls at Bumblebee's arm and it creeks underneath the strain as he screams in pain. "Stop!" Optimus shouts, lifting up his axe and burrying it into Blitzwing's back. Blitzwing drops Bumblebee and a click is heard as they switch again. Blitz staring back at a horrified and furious Optimus with untempered delight.

Notes:

Perhaps there are some draw backs to dating a Decepticon.

Chapter 6: Aftermath

Summary:

Healing post-fight.

Notes:

These were responds to asks and so a little more varying in quality.

Chapter Text

"You're lucky Optimus bailed you out with only frayed wires! Any longer and your arm would have ripped out of your socket," Ratchet scolds Bumblebee worriedly. "Yeah, yeah," Bumblebee says, the words going in one ear and out the other. Optimus stands off to the side, arms crossed as he radiates guilt.

"Stop squirming!" Lugnut scolds Blitzwing as he welds the scar on his back. "You should be thankful squirming is all I'm doing," Wings says, covering his mouth and holding his face in place as his other hand grips his knee.

Chapter 7: Point of no return

Summary:

Optimus makes a choice.

Chapter Text

"What was that?" Optimus says, rage still boiling even when it has now turned to night. "Be more specific," Wings says, half turned to him with his hands behind his back. "Trying to tear Bumblebee's arm off." "So you're breaking the rules," Zing says, booping Optimus' nose and snapping him out of his anger. "No grudges, remember?" Optimus draws back, hand cowering his face as he looks away in guilt, "I-I just want to understand why." "How naughty mixing business with pleasure," Zing says and Wings continue, "if you want anything from us you'll have to beat us in battle." Optimus' hands becomes a fist and he changes his stance to a fighting one. Blitz looks surprised before smiling and doing the same.

"No," Wings says. "Why not?" Optimus asks, wide-eyed. Blitzwing puts their hands on Optimus' shoulders staring intensely, "because then it'll set the precedent pleasure can turn into business." Zing leans in grinning, cradling Optimus' face, "and that's no fun, liebling." Optimus graps his wrists, desperation clear on his face, "then what am I supposed to do? I'm supposed to be their leader yet I'm dating a person that hurts them." "Accept it or end it," Wings says coldly.

"This is supposed to be a fun distraction, it means nothing if you're miserable." Blitzwing lets go and Optimus stumbles back with his head in his hands. "I-I don't know what I want," Optimus says. Blitz switches in, "Stay with us and I'll accept it," he says gently grabbing Optimus' hands and kneeling down before him, "all your hate, disgust and guilt, I shall take it from you, anything you give I'll adore." Optimus focuses in on the new scar on their back, "even when I hurt you? When all I have to offer is pain?". Blitz looks up at him with a gentle lovestruck smile, "Each mark you leave is a sign of your strength, schatz."

Blitzwing embraces Optimus, hands trailing his back as they look for old dents. "though our marks never seem to stick on you," Wings observes. "That's unrelated," Optimus deflects. "Then perhaps you can explain why you get upset when we hurt anyone but you," they say, meeting his gaze. He looks away, "I thought we weren't talking business." "Caught us!" Zing says, taking a step back with his hands up. "You need to make a choice," Wings says before grabbing Optimus' face, "do you want to end this, Optimus?" "I- I don't, despite everything," He leans into it and it turns cradling, Optimus holding their wrist, "am I terrible? Being selfish over this out of everything?".

"You're no worse than us, Sweetspark," Zing says and they kiss underneath the moonlight.

My elevator pitch for BlitzOp is "Mcdonalds employee has a middle age crisis and dates a war criminal".

Chapter 8: Flowers

Summary:

In order to make Optimus not regret his choice, Blitzwing makes him a gift.

Chapter Text

Blitzwing works on a statue of Optimus' alt-mode."Remind me why we're doing this again?" Wings asks.

"And stealing will lessen his guilt?" Wings asks, landing among the field of flowers. "He won't find out," Blitz insists. Carefully he begins to pick the flowers, "besides, we aren't hurting anyone." As he stares at a bloom there's a gasp behind him. Blitz whips around with his guns engaged clutching the flowers to his chest to see a human, tiny in comparison to him.

"Oh!" Zing says in delight as the human looks nervously on. Blitzwing leans in close, shushing him. "It's a surprise for my sweetie, you wouldn't want to ruin it, would you?" The human nods quickly. "Good," Blitzwing says, giving him a pat that presses down his whole body. "Toodles!" Zing says, waving and the human before transforming into his jet-alt and flying off. The human falls back on his back, overwhelmed.

Blitzwing overlooks the Autobot base, figeting with his gifts. "No one's there," Wings says and gets interrupted as Zing takes the front. "Send it!" he says, cheerily throwing the gifts over the edge. "Don't throw it!" Blitz shouts and futively makes a lunge to try to grab them but helplessly watch them fly out of reach. "Whoops," says Zing. The stone truck lands head first as the sunflowers are ripped after it, then turns over itself as it comes to complete stop.

Prowl happens upon the gift, picking it up. "Delivery for Optimus Prime," he says, handing it over to Optimus. Optimus face flushes as his finials wag, "oh." "Are you not going to ask who sent it?" Prowl asks. "No, I know," Optimus says. The team gathers around, Ratchet giving him the side eye as Prowl ponders, the cogs turning slowly in Bulkhead's head. "You have a girlfriend?!" Sari explaims in delight. Optimus flusters, "I don't think he'd be classified as a girl-" "Boyfriend?!" Bumblebee laughs, elbowing Optimus, "imagine Blitzwing realizing he's flirting with a taken bot!" Optimus' looks away, burying his head in the sunflowers, "yeah."

Notes:

Blitzwing interacting with the human was just a delight to draw. I love putting to scale how big the transformers are.

Chapter 9: Confrontation

Summary:

Ratchet and Optimus have a talk.

Chapter Text

Rachet drags a hand over his face as he glares at Optimus. "Please tell me it isn't who I think it is," he demands. Optimus is hunched over a table, they're in Optimus' room. "My alt-mode is based on an Earth firetruck but I usually don't transform into it fully," Optimus says, the panel only captures the lower half of his face. "What does that have to do with anything?" Ratchet asks, confusion seeping some of the white hot anger from him. "It means this was made from memory," Optimus says, stroking the statue of his alt, it has all the little details easy to forget.

"Even if everything he says is a lie Blitzwing likes me," Optimus concludes. "He's a Decepticon," Ratchet says bluntly, "it's only a matter of time he stabs you in the back." Optimus finally looks back at him, "anything you're thinking of I've already considered." Realization hits Ratchet. "You're serious," he says, softer than he'd like before furrowing his brows and turning on his heel, "fine! If you want to throw away all good sense I won't stop you but I'm warning you: This can only end badly." Optimus stares at the gifts, holding them close, "I know."

Chapter 10: Thanks

Summary:

Optimus says thank you for the gift.

Chapter Text

Optimus and Blitzwing meet at their usual spout in the woods. Blitzwing looks surprised to see him. "You arrived quite promptly," Wings says. Optimus gives him a smile. "You thought I wouldn't?" Optimus asks before bashfully looking away rubbing his neck, "I wanted to thank you for the flowers and the statue. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to get the little details right." Blitzwing stares as he listens before breaking into a smile. Wing's smile is like a man who doesn't know how to smile, pulling his lips back far enough to show his gums. "Oh, Optimus. It's no trouble at all, sweetspark," he says closing the distance, resting his hand on the back of Optimus' neck while his other trail his lip. Blitz changes it to be a more loving cradle as he smiles adoringly which Optimus mirrors. "Your smile is reward enough," Blitz says. "About that..." Optimus says with a smile, drawing back from Blitzwing, "I won't be able to meet up with you for a while." Blitz's pupils shake as he hears the news, smile disappearing.

"Is it the Autobots?" Blitz accuses, his wings going taut behind him, Optimus holds his shaking arms down. "No! Well, they are getting suspicious," Optimus says. "I do not care if-" Blitz says before Optimus interrupts. "But! It's mostly because I need time to prepare a surprise." "A surprise?!" Zing lifts Optimus up in excitement. They lean in close, face pressed against his neck, "what is it?" "If I told you it wouldn't be a surprise," Optimus says, amused. "But we'll miss you," Zing says as he slowly lowers Optimus down. "I'll try to finish it quickly but hopefully it'll be worth the wait." Putting him down on the ground Blitzwing licks his neck, "we'll do our best to be patient." Optimus blushes, grinning, "well don't miss me yet." He grabs their tongue, giving it a kiss to Blitzwing's surprise, "I'm still right here, aren't I?" Blitzwing laughs, switching rapidly, "Haha! - How forward of you - mein schatz."

Chapter 11: Friendly advice

Summary:

Blackarachnia and Blitzwing talk.

Chapter Text

Blitzwing stares at the city of Detroit from the woods. "It's almost cute how pathetically besotted you are, Blitzwing," comes a voice behind him. Blitzwing looks back to find her crouch in a tree, "Blackarachnia, you're alive. How disapointing. Don't think I've forgotten how abandoned the Decepticons after Megatron disappeared." "And you're the picture of loyalty, sleeping with the enemy," she says back with a smile. Wings holds Blitz back from switching in, releasing a gust of mist as he glares at her, "what do you want?" Blackarachnia settles down on the branch, "just some friendly advice: Optimus is incapable of loving anyone but himself."

Blitzwing fires, the tree breaks behind her as she jumps. "Struck a nerve?" She asks, still smiling. Blitz growls as he attempts to throw himself at her, chasing her through the woods.

"You know nothing," Blitz says as she stands in the mouth of a cave. "Oh but I know much more at you," she says and smiles as Blitzwing makes an attempt to grab her, stingers poised behind her. Zing pulls back and they pierce nothing, "whoops! Almost fell for it~" He laughs as she scowls, "itsy bitsy got her spark broken! That's hilarious." Blitzwing turns around, marching away from her. "I have better things to deal with than someone projecting," Wings says. Leaving Blackarachnia alone.

Notes:

This is like a spiritual companion to Ratchet's confrontation to Optimus.

Chapter 12: Preperations

Summary:

Optimus plans the date with the unknowing help of his friends.

Chapter Text

Prowl and Sari watches on as Optimus works on something with Bulkhead's help, leaning over to try to understand it. "Uh, Optimus? I don't think the foam will hold-" Bulkhead begins to say but is interrupted by Optimus. "It will!" The foam cracks as he says it, "scraps. Sorry, Bulk." Optimus scratches his neck bashfully, "you make this look so easy I thought I'd be done by now." Ratchet walks grumpily by, "so you can run back to your 'boyfriend'? Bah." Optimus' face falls.

Ratchet stomps out while Prowl and Sari watch on. "What was that about?" Bulkhead asks, Prowl shrugs while Sari looks down contimplating. She looks up, "is Ratchet homphobic?" "Uhhhh," says Bulkhead and Prowl before Optimus interjects panicked, "no! He just doesn't like my boyfriend."

Chapter 13: The date

Summary:

Optimus' turn to plan a date.

"Remember, no peaking," Optimus says. "Yes,yes," Blitzwing says covering his eye as Optimus pulls him along. "Alright, you can look," Optimus says and Blitzwing uncovers his eyes. "Surprise! I, um, thought you might miss some of Cybertron and thought maybe if I made something like it you would- um actually this might have been a terribly insensitive idea idea I'm so sorry," Optimus shows off what he's made, a table and chairs, "Bulkhead helped me with testing the stability so at least it won't break?" On the table are cans of oil and cubes of energon, instead of a candle there's a dumpster fire. Slowly as it sinks in Wings begin to blush, the flush going from his cheeks to his entire face as he breathes out a cloud of mist. "You made this for us?"

" Yes, I did," Optimus looks shyly up at Blitzwing, "do you like it?" "I-" Wings stutters and steams before Blitz steps in to kiss Optimus' hand, "we love it." Making Optimus' smile and his finials wag, their wings fluttering when they sit down. "Energon?" Zing looks closely at the small pink cubes on his plate. "We had some as rations on the ship they're... not very good. I don't think they'll notice it's gone," Optimus explains. "Sneaking it out for us? How naughty!" Blitzing says popping one into his mouth and crunching, "terrible!" "It's nostalgic," Wings says, resting his head on his palm, looking lovestruck at a relieved Optimus. "I'm glad," he says.

"Did you do this for your ex too?" Blitz jabs. "What? No!- how did you know I had an ex?" Optimus says in surprise. Zing reaches over the table to grab his hand, "you're just such a catch! It'd be a surprise if you'd be single all this time!" Optimus' turns his gaze away, smile small, "I'm flattered but my love life isn't something to write home about." "Awh are you embarrassed?" Zing teases. "Can hardly be worse than Blitz's last crush," Wings says with a secretive smile. "Shut up!" Blitz interrupts them. "Is it really that bad?" Optimus asks with a grin, popping an energon cube in his mouth while leaning on his palm. Blitz freezes at the display, blushing while his wings beat behind him. Wings takes the oppertunity to switch in. "Depends on how embarrassing you consider mooning over," he says with sadistic delight.

"Lugnut?!" Optimus exlaims in delighted surprise. Blitz throws himself over the table to grab Optimus' hand. "I don't have feelings for him anymore!" he says desperatly, "I only have you in my spark." "Oh, I see," Optimus says, his face beat red. He draws back scratching his neck and Blitzwing lets him. "You don't have to worry about my ex either," Optimus says, his expression turns sad with old pain, "she broke up with me because I didn't love her. It's been a long time since then." Wings watches, clasping his hands as Optimus continues. "You might know her? She... she goes by Blackarachnia nowadays." Zing smiles, popping an energon cube between his teeth, "know her? She made us!" "What?" Optimus says, shocked.

Blitzwing grabs Optimus' horrified face between his hands. "Tore our processor apart to prove herself to Megatron!" Zing laughs, "isn't that funny? Without leaving her to die we would just be boring old Blitzwing! Haha!" he leans in close to Optimus, "out of anyone that could have found the Allspark it was you! It must be fate that we met." Optimus doesn't say anything, pupils small as he freezes up. "Apologies, we made you uncomfortable," Wings says, withdrawing, it's enough to snap him out of it. "No, I was surprised. Despite everything I didn't expect her to do that," he says, looking down before gathering his feelings again and looking up. "I don't hate learning about you, Blitzwing," Optimus' says, Blitzwing's surprise reflected in his eye.

Optimus grabs their hand with a small smile, "maybe it's like you said. That we were meant to meet. I'm glad to have met you." Blitzwing's wings fly up as his entire face flushes, steam coming out of his guns. "I-I see," Wings says, taking a gulp of oil as his wings flutter heavily behind him. Blitz pulls Optimus in and kisses him with a smile, "I'm glad we feel the same way." Zing pulls him out of his chair to his surprise. "Enough talking! Let's dance!" Blitzwing says with a grin.

Optimus laughs, "without music? Don't tell me you lost the stereo I gave you already!" Zing blushes, "oh right, we have that now." They put the stereo on the table and clicks it on, beginning to slow dance together with a smile.

 

Notes:

The stereo is a little reference to a drawing I made that isn't really a comic but more cute fluff.

This is one of my favorite comics in this entire series I have to say I am a hopeless romantic at heart.

Chapter 14: A look into the past

Summary:

A flashback collection on their pasts they brought up on the date.

Notes:

Didn't really have a good place to put these but its still important to the story so here we go! Two disconnected comics.

Chapter Text

"We should break up," Elita-1 says and Optimus freezes. "Did I do something wrong?" Optimus asks, reaching out to her. She looks down, arm on her hand, "I just don't feel that you love me as much as I love you." "I'm sorry I'll make it up to you-" Optimus reaches for her hand but she pulls away. "That's thing isn't isn't it? You don't take initiative unless you have a reason or I remind you," tears slip from her eyes as she smiles, "you're a good guy, Optimus, but I don't want to be with someone who loves me like an obligation." Optimus' heart breaks.

 

 

Blitzwing opens his eyes, his face is a pale yellow and his red optics have no pupils.

"Blitzwing, stop!" Blackarachnia screams as he continues to scratch at his face, attempting to stop him. He grabs her by the throat, "You. What did you do to me?" She stabs him with her stinger. "Me... Me?" he trails off, slumping down and she catches him before he hits the floor.

"How disappointing after the confidence you showed. I shall be magnanimous and allow you one chance to fix this and prove your use," Megatron says, "I expect not to be let down again." Then he begins to smile, "though you could always choose to go crawling back to the Autobots. I'm sure they'll be kind enough to offer euthanasia for your condition. If not, Perceptor wouldn't say no to a techno-organic test subject." Blacharachnia grits her teeth.

Cut to Blackarachnia going back into surgery. "No, no, no- the processor has started corrupting," Blackarachnia narrates, biting her inner lip, "it can't handle the strain of the additional alt-mode, it's too much for one mech. But what if it wasn't one? If I reprogram the personality module to correspond to each alt-mode... This might work." We see that she has split up Blitzwing's processor into three and has installed Wings and Blitz's faces.

Notes:

Blackarachnia is a really underutilized character in the show, I wish we'd seen her actually interact with Blitzwing. Also that comic is in color because it's not specific to this fic as a whole it's just my headcanon on how the botched surgery went.

Very split on grouping these comics together but Idk how better to pace them in the story. Also did not realize Elita-1's comic was slightly different in size. if you wonder when I drew these chronologically, Blitzwing's was drawn just after this date while Optimus' was drawn just after the gift.

Chapter 15: Feelings

Summary:

Optimus has a talk to Sari about his feelings.

"Hey!" Sari says, looking up at the couch. She kicks herself up before walking on Optimus' chest, pointing down at his face as he lays across the couch. He's lost in thought, bags beneath his eyes and lips pinched in worry. "You're hogging the whole couch!" Sari accuses. He sits up, a hand behind Sari to keep her from falling, "sorry, Sari, I was just thinking." "You can tell me, I'm 8 years old that's basically an adult!" she says proudly holding up 8 fingers as he holds her in his hands. "How long is a year?" he asks. "A long time." He brings his cap down on his eyes as he considers it.

"I have this friend," he finally says. "Uh, huh," "And he has this problem. He thinks his boyfriend likes him very much." Sari places her hands on her hips, "how is that a problem?" "

He squints at the phone screen she shows him, showing the fanwiki article of Aromanticism. He pulls back, flustered. She passively rechecks the wiki before crossing her arms smugly. Turning to point an accusatory finger.

She jabs her finger at his nose as he blusters. He tries to deny and she boos him. He sits, a blush on his cheeks as he scratches his neck. She crosses her arms. Then uncrosses them as she frowns. He laughs. She bluntly re-evauluates hands on her hips. He smiles, giving her a pat and she grins in turn.

Notes:

If being specific I headcanon Optimus as being Aroflux Bisexual, but he's not quite ready to fully accept the former yet.

Chapter 16: Plans

Blitzwing's aftermath of the date.

Blitz hums as he draws Optimus. Zing throws the tablet away and it crashes into the wall. "What was that?" Lugnut asks off-screen. "Nothing!" Blitzwing says before quietly, nervously, to themselves, "the plan is still the same isn't it? Have our fun until the space bridge is completed and then forget all this?" "Of course nothing's changed," says Wings, cold air blowing from from his mouth as there's a flush on his cheek. Blitz stays quiet before Wings prompts him "Blitz?" He huffs smoke as he scowls, "nothing's changed."

Chapter 17: Running out of time

Summary:

Zing experiences intimacy.

Chapter Text

Blitzwing and Optimus make out, wings fluttering the whole time. They draw back for a minute but quickly Blitz continues, biting his lip. Optimus gives them a smirk as they tear the grass beside his head.

Zing grins. When he kisses Optimus we see the scars. on his face. Optimus pushes him back, cradling his face. Close up on Zing's fangs we see the rips around them. Optimus brings them in for a forehead bump and Zing's smile is gone, replaced by soft surprise. Hesitantly they put on a smile. Optimus looks back with no judgement in his eyes.

Blitzwing's smile widens as his eyes narrows, pushing away Optimus' hands. Blitzwing sits up and Optimus follows suit. Bringing in to rest his forehead on theirs again, Zing looks terrified. Optimus gives them a kiss on the cheek. Blitzwing places his hand on Optimus' wrist. Optimus looks confused.

"Oh," Zing thinks, Optimus is reflected in his eye. He places his hands on Optimus' shoulders as their faceplate starts spinning. Optimus gets concerned when it doesn't stop. "We're fine, I want to hear about you," Blitz takes the front and pushes Optimus' down to the latter's surprise. Pinning him down with a grin. Optimus' engine revves as he stares up at them, face flushed.

Chapter 18: A moth to a flame

Summary:

Wings act on a feeling he doesn't know the name of.

"What is this? Why does he occupy my thoughts? I saw him yesterday, why do I want to see him now?" Wings narrate, the thoughts of Optimus cages him in as he walks blocking out the world. "Is it because he let his guard down?" The memory shows Optimus opening up about arachna-7. "But even useless information," we see later, Optimus laughing as it hits him he's sharing his preference for copper with a Decepticon, "I want it."

"Why, why, why?" he thinks walking through the woods. He happens upon Optimus at their meeting place. "He's here?" Blitzwing whispers, flustered. "What are we waiting for?" Zing asks, taking the front and a step forward, "Opti-!" Wings covers their mouth, drawing back. "No, let's just standby and watch for his intentions." Blitz laughs, "coward."

Zing cowards their mouth with both hands. "Blitzwing? What are you doing?" Optimus asks, amused, leaning over them as they hide in the bushes. Wings startle, falling back steaming. "Wings?! Did I surprise you that badly?" Optimus takes a moment to recover before reaching out to help Blitzwing up with a wry grin, "you're acting like Blitz did at the start." Blitz grabs his hand, "hey! I did a little better." "Sure," Optimus says, hand on his hip and pulling them up.

"Walking through a glass panel because I glared at you is certainly memorable," Optimus says and in the background we see a picture of that event. Blitzwing robotically walking through a glass panel while a bloody Optimus watches with wide eyes. Blitz tries to cover up the screen, "Delete that!" Optimus presses his nose with a grin, "but it was cute." Blitz blushes before Zing switches in an attempts to bite the finger, Optimus pulling out of reach in time with a fond smile. "You didn't answer what you were up to," Optimus says. "I-I don't know," Wings stutters, reaching out to cradle Optimus' face.

"I just want to be close to you," they say, their expression with wide eyed innocence. Optimus becomes gentle, embracing them to their surprise, cheeks flushed as he looks away, "you know you can just ask for a hug. You don't need to kiss me first." Blitzwing's hands shake before they embrace him back, nervous flutter as they rest their head on his shoulder. "You're freezing," Optimus remarks. "I am?" Blitzwing says wide eyed, "on the contrary I feel rather warm- ah!" The sentance breaks as Optimus strokes the wound on their back, the one he gave them.

Optimus jolts back, "I'm sorry, does it still hurt?" "No, no, you can touch it, it's yours," Wings says, the words flowing out of his mouths before he can think about them, "we're y- Nggh." Optimus follows through on the permission, going back to tracing the scar. Contimplative. "Do you like it then?" "Please," Wings says, his voice shaking and with a click their spark chamber open up. Zing's eyes snap to awareness.

Zing closest it, pushing Optimus back, "I just remembered we need to clean our cockpit!" "What?" "We got wasps or worms in it!" Blitzwing says cheerily. Optimus laughs, "how did you manage that?" He reaches towards them, "here, let me help you out." "NO!" Zing screams out, jumping back and covering it up along with a smile, "we can handle it on our own! Don't worry your pretty -LITTLE- head about it!" Optimus lets them go with a soft smile.

Chapter 19: Realization

Chapter Text

Blitzwing stumbles as he runs to the river. "No, no, no, what did you do? What did we do?" Zing throws themselves at the river bed, wings held taut in fear, "quick! Look into the water and think of Optimus." "I don't see the use of this," Wings says calmly, reflecting back in the water. "Just do it!" "Fine," the others relent.

Blitz thinks of Optimus, glaring at them holding his axe, and gives a soft smile. Wings think of Optimus by the firelight, teasing them, their face flushes and pupil dilate. Zing thinks of Optimus holding them, gaze full of concern and empathy, they look beaten as a blush spreads unwillingly on their cheeks.

Blitzwing hits his head repeatedly as he curls up, "we're so stupid, stupid, stupid!" "Stop that. Tell us what's wrong" Wings says. Zing lets their arm fall. "We need to prove ourselves to Megatron," he says. He recalls a memory of Optimus carrying Sari on his shoulder, smiling at her as she talks. "Yes, that will fix this," Zing thinks aloud, "If we get the- the key-" the image of an furious Optimus intrudes his mind "- Then... we'll be secured." Zings eyes are wide as he says it.

"It's rare for you to take initiative like this," Wings says. "I don't like it! It feels like you're keeping something from us," Blitz says scowling. Zing hits the water, disturbing its reflection. "Why would I do that? It's just another job like any other." His eyes are closed as he sits slumped, a frown etched into his face.

Chapter 20: Routine

Blitzwing tries to get the allspark key.

Blitzwing watches Sari from above as she waits by a crosslight. "It's good they have me around, how else would they know to get more snacks?" Sari says to herself with a smile, carrying a backpack. Blitzwing lands behind her, cracking the pavement and making her stumble forward with a "woah!"

Blitzwing is huge in comparison to Sari, she has to crane her neck up to look at him. He reaches out his hands. "Now I don't recommend running. It will only make this worse," he says calmly. "No!" Sari screams out and attempts to run only to be scooped up in his hands, "eeek!" Zing brings her up to their eye, pinching the air, "looks like taking the key will also take your head!"

"No choice but to take you with me!" Sari begins to wiggle out of his grip. "Wait-" he says as she pops out and falls, "DON'T!" Blitz manages to catch her, holding her more securely with both hands this time. "Do all organics long to go splat or just you?" he asks. "My name is Sari, not organic!" She says splaying out her limbs to hold his hands open. "Sari? Right, we have a message for you," Wings says, recognition flashing on his face.

Blitzwing is kneeling on one knee as he convays the message, "the professor wanted to relay: I love you and I'm sorry." Sari stops for a moment, horror and worry dawning on her. She bites Blitzwing's finger making him open up his hands with an "ouch!" she falls down onto his knee and slides down his leg before taking off running. "Wh- come back here!" Blitz calls after her.

Blitzwing reaches out for her and she closes her eyes hoping against hope that he wont catch her. They hear a siren go of. Relieved she looks back with a grin, "you guys!" Blitz stops as Zing comes to the front. "Blitzwing! Let her go," Optimus says determined, aiming his axe at them. The other Autobots are by his side but their words and appearances are faded as all Blitzwing can focus on is: "Optimus," Zing says, his voice glitching out as he stands. In his shadow Sari sticks out her tongue.

Chapter 21: Breaking point

Chapter Text

Blitzwing transforms into his jet-alt mode.

He rams into Optimus as the Autobots reach out screaming "Optimus!" they're unable to hold him as they fly away outside of town to the forest. Optimus gathers his barings and summons his axe, bringing it down on Blitzwing's wing.

Blitzwing transforms back into his root form, glaring, and Optimus goes flying from the momentum but he catches himself by his axe cutting into dirt.

"What are you doing?!" Screams Blitz and Blitzwing drops to the ground clutching their head. "This wasn't what we agreed to!" says Wings. "Blitzwing?" Optimus asks, concerned. "What I'm doing?! I'm doing what we should have done from the start!" Zing wrenches back control, firing off his super heat rays at Optimus who rolls to the side.

"Any reason why you suddenly hate me, Zing?" Optimus asks with a glare, looking up at them. "Maybe I just feel like it!" Zing says, closing the distance, "you're an Autobot, I'm a Decepticon. Why are you hesitating?" Blitzwing grabs Optimus' ax. "I planned to- No" Wings breaks up Zing's speech, "kill your friend!- get the key." "Why are you trying to lie to me?" Optimus asks, face flushed from rage.

Blitzwing pushes Optimus down as they switch. Optimus lands on the grass with a thud before Zing straddles him. "You don't know what you've done," they say, eyes wide. "I think you need to cool down," Optimus fires back, force triggering Wings to front as he kicks them back.

Wings kneels, staring at Optimus in horror, "what am I doing? This wasn't..." "I know I'm sorry," Optimus says, getting up. "It's hard to think seeing you-" Blitz switches in, "get out of my sight, I'll talk to him." "Alright," Optimus says softly, walking away. "Du bist ein Idiot," Blitz tells Zing. "Shut up," they respond but Blitz continues, "ist es wirklich so schwer zu akzeptieren? Er ist das Beste, was uns passiert ist, und du willst es ruinieren!" Quietly Zing says, "Ich muss es tun." They turn shooting Optimus in the back, he gasps as it shatters his siren glass. "Don't turn your back to an enemy, Prime," Zing says, smiling desperetely.

Optimus glares before running deeper into the woods. "Haha, hide and seek? I'm it!" Blitzwing giggles, heading off after him. "Do you really want to hurt me, Zing?" "You have no idea what I want!" They say, firing their ice beam at where they heard the voice come from.

"Because you won't tell me," Optimus says, frustrated. Blitzwing goes for the tree but he's already gone, it cracks underneath their hands, "stop that! Don't act like you care. Stop looking at me like-" their voice breaks, glitching, as they cover their eyes, "I have to do this, I have to do this." Concern creeps back into Optimus' expression as he watches.

Optimus sends his grappler to tie Blitzwing up, Blitzwing startles, revealing tears in their eyes. Optimus draws closer, "be honest with me, Blitzwing, what's going on?" Blitz looks back, a blush on his cheeks, "we're in love with you." The grappler loosenes it rope and falls to the side. "What?" Optimus asks, eyes wide and face flushed as his finials lowers.

Blitzwing grabs his head, hunching down as Zing screams, "nonono! You weren't supposed to tell him!" "Blitzwing I-" Optimus reaches out. Wings takes control, "this- This wasn't supposed to happen. We should break up," his voice breaks as he looks back to Optimus, "we never should've allowed it to get this far." Optimus opens his mouth, still reaching out. Then he draws back, looking at the Autobot symbol on his shoulder, he draws his cap over his eyes. "Alright."

"I'll- I'll go-" "NO!" Blitz grabs his wrist as he attempts to leave, "the others might want to break up but I don't. We can still be together," he looks up at Optimus with a desperate smile, "I'll convince them! Please, I love you." Optimus pauses, "... I don't love you, Blitzwing." Blitzwing pulls him in, the metal creaking underneath his grip as he scowls, "you're lying." Optimus meets his gaze, "you can believe what you want."

"It won't change how I feel," Optimus pulls back from Blitzwing's grip, there's dent marks left by them. He walks away as Blitz looks after him, still reaching out, before they curl into a ball shaking. Once Optimus is out of the forest he hears them scream and we now see he's holding back tears.

Optimus reunites with hsi team. They are all different shades of worried about him and fishing for what Blitzwing was after. Underneath the weight of the concerns he falls to his knees. "I'm so sorry," he says.

I have been so excited for this part since the start :] Things will not get better for a while.

Chapter 22: Regret

Summary:

Ratchet patches Optimus up while Optimus opens up about his feelings.

"Geesh, going to have to replace the glass and powerbox," Ratchet says, peering into Optimus' damaged back. They are in the medbay with Optimus sitting on the bed with his back turned to Ratchet. "Could you just leave it?" Optimus asks quietly. "What?" "Nevermind, ignore me," Optimus looks away, fiddling with the indent Blitzwing's fingers left on his arm, "they... They liked the marks." "Kid, I can't leave you with a non-functioning siren. Especially not for some smuck who blew it," Ratchet says incrediously. Optimus covers his face, "I know it's irrational, I don't know what else to do," he hunches down further, "I broke their spark, Ratchet."'

Ratchet frowns further as Optimus continues. "You probably don't believe me but you weren't there," Optimus presses his palms against his eyes to keep himself from crying, "they love me and it's agony for them I-I didn't know what to say so..." tears drip down on the floor, "I did the right thing, didn't I? We both knew it wasn't going to last. Why do I feel like this?" The last sentance is said in a whisper. "We all make mistakes when we're young and stupid," Ratchet says, looking uncomfortable before regaining his composure, "you just did something dumber than most." Optimus wipes his tears and looks at him, "is that supposed to make me feel better?" "No," Ratchet says and puts his hand on his shoulder, "just speaking from experience that it'll pass." "Can I at least keep the dents?" "So long as you promise me not to hold it on forever." "Alright."

Chapter 23: Denial

The aftermath of the break up on Blitzwing's side

Blitzwing slams his fist against the mine's wall and covers his face. "I can feel you, you don't get to be sparkbroken. You got what you wanted," Blitz growls out. " "I had to!" Zing says. "We were comrpomsied," Wings adds. "He was ours! He was right within our reach," Blitz insists. Blitzwing draws their hand away from their face, "he didn't love us." "He-he was just saying that," Blitz insists, voice cracking from desperation. He claws at his chest, "we were so close." Blitz inhales and exhales smoke in an attempt to calm down before manually switching his face to Wing's, smoke becoming steam.

They approach Megatron from behind. "Blitzwing, report," Megatron orders and Blitzwing obliges. "The Autobots still put up heavy resistance, targetting their human companion has proven futile," Blitz says, tense and still having Wing's face. "I see, until further notice you are to oversee the construction work," Megatron says, barely looking at them. "Understood." Blitzwing stomps their way over to Sumdac's prison, causing the professor to have to hold out his arms to stay balanced. "She got your message," Blitz says as he sits down with a thud and switches back his face. "Oh!" Sumdac says, surprised, "thank you." "Don't- don't thank me, don't look at me," Blitz's voice start to glitch out as he starts to weep, "if you look at me I'll kill you, got it?" "Got it!" Sumdac squeakes out. Blitzwing continues to cry looking over the space bridge, shaking slightly as he does so.

Notes:

My habit of feeling the feelings of the characters I write is both driving me to draw this part of the story as quick as possible while also leaving me sniffling now and again.
We are in this pain together.

Chapter 24: Talking about it

Team Prime talks about the news that Optimus had been dating Blitzwing

"Get up! It's very hard to be mad at you when you look like a popped balloon," Sari says, pointing down at an Optimus prone on the floor. "I'm sorry," he says, transforming into is alt-mode to a very displeased Sari. "How can a truck look sad?!" Sari throws up her hands and Bumblebee looks over his shoulder. "I hate to say it but I think things were better when Optimus was dating Blitzwing," Bumblebee says to Bulkhead frowning. "Bumblebee," Bulkhead says sternly.

"He actually did stuff! Like going out once in a while and stop nagging us- he even did things for fun! Now all he does is mope," Bumblebee says frustrated. "Do you hear yourself?" Bulhead rolls his eyes before hitting his chest, "I'm not gonna thank a guy who hurts my little buddy." "Awh, stop it," Bumblebee says smiling, hitting Bulkhead with his elbow. He turns his attention up to the window where Prowl is sitting, "Prowl! You didn't seem surprised at all at heard the news, what's up?" "The roof," Bulkhead says, "and Prowl is smart, of course he figured it out." Prowl looks mildly uncomfortable as he explains, "it was simple process of elimination on who sent the gift. I'm ashamed to say taht I thought it might have been you, Bulk." On the background we see Bumblebee, Blackarachnia, and human crossed out leaving only Bulkhead and Blitzwing.

"I'm nothing like Blitzwing!" Bulkhead says flustered. "Ooo, look at that, one might call you hothead!" Bumblebee teases and gets bonked for his troubles. "Stop shouting! You're making Optimus even sadder," Sari shouts, waving her arms. "It's fine, I know I betrayed your trust going behind your backs," Optimus says, his wheels are flat out as he has further deflated, Sari looks unconvinced. "If you knew it was bad why did you do it?" Bumblebee asks. Prowl jumps down, "out of everyone I wouldn't expect you to do it, Prime."

"It was entirely selfish reasons. He made me feel... desired," Optimus explains, "like I could be anything with them and still be wanted." "And you didn't trust us," Bulkhead says, narrowing his eyes. "You are my team, I have a responsibility to you," they are reflected in Optimus' window, "it wouldn't be right to burden you with personal issues." "But we're your friends first, right?" Sari asks carefully as the others look concerned. "I'd say you made a much bigger mess trying not to burden us," Prowl says. "I know I'm sorry," Optimus says, transforming back into root mode, "I suppose it was just easier going to a stranger."

"Though I guess they're not strangers anymore," Optimus says, thinking back to their time together. Blitz's lovestruck smile, Wings flustered spilling his drink, and Zing looking at him confused and frowning saying "It's almost like you care about me." Optimus bites his lip to not cry and transforms back into his alt-mode, "I'm sorry, I'll get over it." The team exchanges glances, not believing a word of it.

Chapter 25: Falling apart

Summary:

Blitzwing gets a mission to collect an allspark fragment, the Autobots stop him.

Chapter Text

"Ever thought of sabotage, professor?" Wings asked, looking upon the space bridge, a componant in his hand. "Of course he hasn't! Megatron would be ma~ad," Zing sings. "And you're a coward," Blitz adds, the componant creaks and cracks in his fist. Hesitantly Sumdac points out "that was needed." "Was it?" Wings says, throwing away the broken componant before turning, "I'll get a new one." "You will not," Lugnut interupts, "an allspark signal has been found and Lord Megatron wants you to get it." "And you will be my back up?" Blitzwing asks. "You should be able to handle it alone," Lugnut says and Blitzwing narrows his eye.

Blitzwing breaks into a jewelry shop, he has to lay on his belly and reach in through the broken window to get to the fragment. He pulls it out and switches to Zing as they hear sirens. Optimus transforming from his alt mode to glare him down.

Zing breaks into sobbing as he turns tail and runs. "What- wait don't let him get away!" Optimus says, startled, before kicking into gear and sending out his bolo canon to ensnare Blitzwing's legs making them trip. They get up slowly, Blitz fronting, Optimus ensnares their hand with his grapple. Blitz grabs it pulling Optimus close. "You asked me before why I brutalized your friend."

"It's because I hate everything that comes between us," Blitz finishes, hand around Optimus wrist and the other around his waist. "Then you must hate yourselves most right now," Optimus says, glare tinged with sadness. "I love that you're so smart," Blitzwing smiles, leaning ever closer as he brings up Optimus' dented arm to his cheek, "ich liebe dich." Optimus' breath hitches, "Blitz-" "Duck!" Bulkhead calls out and when he does so the wrecking ball slams into Blitzwing's chassis making him stumble back.

Prowl's shuriken impacts Blitzwing's hand making him drop the allspark fragment, Bumblebee snatching it up in the air still in his alt-mode, "got it!" Team Prime surrounds Blitzwing as they regain their footing, Wings looking around at them. "I- we- we..." his gaze lands on Optimus and he chokes up, "we can't do this."

Blitzwing transforms into his jet alt, tears still falling, as Bulkhead calls out "come back here!" The team talks but Optimus cannot hear what they say as he hunches down to pick up the frozen tears. Looking up with melancholy back at the sky.

Blitzwing enters back into the mines, dragging a hand across his face leaning against the wall. "Blitzwing," Megatron says, looking down on them, "tut, tut, your performance has been lacking." "Forgive me. The Autobots had me surrounded, I had to retreat," Blitzwing says, kneeling down with a hand on his chest. "How dare you lie to Lord Megatron!" Lugnut says from behind.

Blitzwing whips around, "you had me tailed?!" "Only to confirm the cause of your recent issues," Megatron says calmly, "I know about your fling with the Prime." Zing switches in with a strained smile, "oh that? Already over and done!" Megatron leans close, "and why is he still online then?" "It just seemed too bothersome!" "I suggest you meet up with your Autobot and tie up loose ends." Blitzwing backs away, "he doesn't trust me anymore! He won't fall for it." "I don't think so." Blitzwing's back hits Lugnut.

Blitzwing backs off from them both as his face spins. "From what Lugnut saw the Autobot will fall for your tricks if you'll only set your mind to it," Megatron continues. Blitz takes the front, remembering the moment Optimus said "I don't love you", he breathes out a cloud of smoke. "No," Blitz thinks, "it doesn't matter. Even if you never look my way again." He remembers the happy times they spent together, of Optimus smiling, flustered, teasing, happy, and of them reaching out to him. "What are you-" Wings thinks.

Blitz fires at Megatron and Lugnut slams him into the ground, "you dare attack out leader!" Wings takes the front as Zing co-fronts, "I'm sorry, forgive me- I-I didn't mean to do that. I beg for your forgiveness."

"Lugnut, let him go," Megatron says at last to both of their surprise, kneeling down to look Blitzwing in the eye, "you have been a loyal lieutenant until now, Blitzwing, so I shall give you a chance. Delete the offending part of your personality module and all shall be forgiven." Wings looks at Megatron in horror before Zing takes control, smiling hopelessly, "we would rather die."

"As you wish," Megatron says and fires at Blitzwing. It shatters their cockpit. Blitzwing runs.

"Should I catch him, my lord?" Lugnut asks. "Let him run, he won't make it," Megatron responds. Blitzwing flies in his jet alt-mode, smoke comes from his engines and his cockpit bleeds as little remains. "Why did you do that?!" Zing asks. "You wanted to hurt him too," Blitz says, voice glitching out. "If you hadn't attacked we could have figured something out," Wings says. ERROR message. "Right! We blocked Optimus," Zing says. "Because Blitz kept trying to call him," Wings ends. "Haha! It's too late! Mayday, mayday, mayday, we're going down!" Blitzwing transforms and crashes into the earth.

Blitzwing vomits up oil as he gets to his knees, his spark chamber is open and melted with his spark nuclei slowly splitting. He looks up at the sky taking in shaky breaths, then brings a hand up to unblock Optimus. He lets his hand fall. "He won't get here in time," Wings says.

"We're so pathetic coming back here," he heaves another spurt of oil on the ground, bringing up a servo up to his spark, "I've never been so miserable... and yet," Wings smiles, hopeless, "even now we still miss you." His eye widens, there's a circle around his pupil, "Optimus?... Ah I see." He focuses on the city in the distance, "... I never hated this place from the start... Won't you stay with me?" His voice glitches out at the end.

There is only a circle in his eye as he looks down. "It's quiet." Dusk is falling over the forest as Blitzwing sits alone, dead.

I wonder how many kept in mind that there has been a "Major Character Death" tag on this fic since the start.
I'm so happy getting this done! It has been haunting my brain since the start of this comic just took like 4 months. This is the end of what I've officially dubbed as the "AAAAA" Act, next up, Act 2!

Also if you wonder if Megatron's bargain would have worked: No, it would essentially have been the same as a lobotomy.

"Has anyone spotted Blitzwing as of late?" Optimus asks as Ratchet is in the middle of fixing up Bumblebee's horn. "Not since the allspark fragment," Ratchet says looking away, in the lapse in attention Bumblebee picks up Sari and she fixes his horn with her key. "Maybe he thought better of fighting us," Bumblebee says with a smile. "Or Megatron got him grounded!" Sari adds. "Don't spend your time worrying about it it's probably- Hey," Ratchet catches Bumblebee and Sari looking innocent. Optimus looks away, thoughts troubled. "How many times have I told you to save that for emergencies!" Ratchet scolds Sari as Optimus walks away. "I'm going on patrol," he says. "Yeah, yeah."

"Don't be stupid, Optimus, why would he be there? He won't be there," Optimus thinks to himself as he drives to the woods. Walking up the hill he looks at the ground before raising his gaze. His eyes widen as his breath catches at what he sees.

"Blitzwing!" Optimus shouts, rushing forward to the corpse. Words fail him as all he can do is hyperventilate, futively wiping the oil stains from Blitzwing's face, shaking as he looks at the gaping hole in their chest. He hugs them close as tears flow free from his eyes. Help, he needs to get help.

Optimus transforms into a truck and drives off. "RATCHET!" he screams once he gets to the medbay, Blitzwing slung over his back, "please help him!" He puts them on the bed, still crying. "Optimus, there's nothing I can do," Ratchet says, reaching out to place his hand on Optimus' shoulder. "Why not?!" Optimus shouts, whipping around.

Ratchet points at Blitzwing's wounds, "the glass can be replaced but we ain't got the tools for a melted sparkchamber. Besides, nothing can cure a departed spark." "Sari," Optimus says, eyes widening, "you can use your key-" "Optimus" Ratchet warns as Optimus smiles, approaching Sari. "- and revive him! Just like you did me," he sinks down to his knees as Sari backs away, "I know I'm asking a lot. I know he's bad I know he's hurt you- that he's hurt a lot of people. But I-I," his voice glitches.

His face falls as he stares into nothing, "I can't let it end like this." Sari looks at her key before grabbing it, looking up with determination, "I'll do it." "Thank you," Optimus says, lifing her up to Blitzwing chest and whiping away his tears, "watch out for the glass." "If it doesn't work don't blame yourself, he's been offline for cycles." Sari goes forward to Blitzwing's sparkchamber, it responds to her key's presence, presenting itself a keyhole. She unlocks it, light flooding out.

The light spreads as Blitswing's cockpit begins to repait itself. "Watch out!" Ratchet says scooping Sari up before it can close itself over her. Blitzwing twitches before his eye snaps awake.

Blitzwing sits up, rubbing his head as he reoriants himself. "Blitzwing?" Optimus asks, hesitantly reaching out. "Optimus?" Optimus smiles, relieved at Blitzwing's recognition, " you're here-" Blitzwing stumbles and Optimus catches him. "Hold on, it might be easier if you choose one face." "Right," Blitzwing says, he cycles through the faces "is this the right face?"

Chapter 28: An introduction

Chapter Text

"It doesn't matter, what matters is that you're here and safe," Optimus says choked up, hugging Blitzwing's neck. Blitzwing hesitates a moment before patting Optimus on the back, pulling back. "What happened?" Optimus asks. Blitzwing looks down to the side, "I was attacked by Megatron." "WHAT?!" comes Bumblebee's voice from behind

They look back to see Prowl, Bulkhead and Bumblebee at the medbay entrance. "We didn't mean to eavesdrop we just followed the oil tracks and..." Prowl trails off. "Right, I should probably introduce everyone," Optimus says wiping his eyes, "this is Ratchet, Sari- she saved your life." Blitzwing smiles at her, "I am in your debt." "You're talking weird," she says. Optimus points to the others, "that's Prowl, Bulkhead and Bumblebee." "You failed to tear my arm off!" Bumblebee points out. Confused Blitzwing says, "why would I do that? We're both Autobots, aren't we?... Ah," his eyes widen as he gets flustered, "sorry! I got confused, I remember now, Bumblebee. Disregard that." Ratchet frowns, "Blitzwing would you mind if I looked at your processor?" "Ratchet," Optimus scolds.

"I don't mean you got a screw loose I just want to confirm something," Ratchet clarifies. Blitzwing looks down at his Autobot symbol before Optimus places a hand on his shoulder. "Is that fine, Blitzwing? Ratchet won't hurt you but I know it's been a lot," Optimus reassures. "It's fine if it's needed," Blitzwing responds. Ratchet puts down Sari and shouts, "everyone out!" They all listen to him but Blitzwing grabs Optimus' wrist before he can go, "stay." "Are you sure?" "I only know you." "Alright sit down and remove your helmet," Ratchet says and Blitzwing listens, revealing his three faces and divided processor. "Is a processor supposed to look like that?" Optimus asks. "No," Blitzwing says. Ratchet follows up, "who did your modifications?" "Don't know."

"Wasn't it Blackarachnia? That's what you told me," Optimus says, concern creeping in. "Right it was her," Blitzwing confirms. "Have you had any diagnosis for your mental state?" Ratchet asks. Blitzwing looks away, "... don't remember." "Alright I ain't no processor expert so I can't diagnose you, this is just what I think," Ratchet begins, "I think with your processor being rewired to hold three personalities it saved that code in its software for emergencies the existing alters couldn't handle. And they couldn't handle Megatron killing them, resulting in a split, and I think you are that resulting alter. Am I wrong?" Blitzwing frowns, guilty.

"I'm sorry," he says, putting his helmet back on. "Why are you apologizing?" asks Optimus. "I haven't felt or heard anyone since I came back online," Blitzwing says. Optimus looks horrified, "are they-" "No, an alter cannot die," Ratchet interrupts, "but they can become dormant. It's more like stasis where an alter becomes inactive for some time." "How long will an alter stay dormant for?" Optimus asks. Blitzwing attempts to make himself look small, his face now Wings', not meeting anyones eyes. "It depends, I have heard of alters going dormant at the start of the war and haven't come online again. All there is to do is wait and see," Ratchet answers as Optimus backs away in shock.

"The question is if you want a faceplate of your own or not since it seems like what your system is used to," Ratchet says looking back at Blitzwing. Blitzwing looks up, distressed, "if it'll get you to stop looking at me like that, Optimus." Optimus is near tears, but swallows them back and covers his face. "I'm sorry, ignore me and choose what you want I'll just..." Optimus removes his hand, forcing a smile, "show you to your room."

Introducing Liz! (He/him)

Whew I was very nervous for this one! The Blitzwing has OSDD tag was added for this reason that I did want to explore it closer and this part specifically change significantly as I researched more about OSDD and the differences it had to DID. For Blitzwing as I headcanon him with OSDD-1b it means that alters actually can remember what the other did while fronting while in DID and OSDD-1a they cannot. Hopefully I portrayed it well enough in that Liz can remember things that happened recent events well enough but struggles more with older ones.

*It depends on system but it usually don't manifest as death as normally thought of. I knew a system where alters could kill other alters in headspace but they would respawn later like a video game (I think they did it for fun). There are as well some alters believe themselves already dead and manifest as ghost or undead.

Chapter 29: Welcome home

Optimus shows Blitzwing his room, its a garage with car reperation equipment. "There isn't much extra space with Sari living here so... I hope you don't mind living with me. I... I cleaned it up recently, there's a berth for you over there," he gestures to the side. "I see, thank you," Blitzwing says, the scar on his back is gone. "Ah, do you have a designation I should call you?" Optimus looks back to him. Blitzwing looks at the wilted flowers and statue, "it's Optim-ist!" he quickly covers up the slip up. "Optimist? That's your designation?" Optimus asks, slightly confused. "No," Blitzwing says, "just call me Blitzwing for now, there's no one else, after all." Optimus quickly turns away so Blitzwing can't see the way his eyes welled with tears again.

"I'm sorry, Blitzwing. I should have... If I had asked... I'm sorry," he turns, holding out an Autobot badge to Blitzwing, "here, I had it in case you -them- ever wanted to..." Blitzwing takes it and puts it on, "thank you and don't worry about me. 'I' have never been a Decepticon, so it's alright."

I thought it would be funny if I gave Liz a name in the vein of Hothead/Icy/Random but still, not his actual name.

Chapter 30: Responsibility

The team, sans Optimus, is gathered around. "So what happens now?" Bumblebee asks. "Blitzwing has always been unpredictable but now..." Prowl trails off. "We have no way of knowing what he's thinking," Ratchet finishes. "I say we drop him! He's fixed up so he ain't our problem anymore," Bulkhead said. Sari looks down, holding the edge of her dress tightly. "I think Blitzwing should stay here, with us," Sari says, tearing up before big tears fall down her cheeks, "Optimus was... he was really upset when they got hurt. I don't want to ever see that again."

"Can't we do it for Optimus' sake?" She pleads. The others share a look before Ratchet picks her up. "Of course, Sari, we aren't leaving him high and dry," Ratchet comforts. "Yeah, I was just angry, I didn't mean it," Bulkhead adds. Sari sits hugging her knees, "I'll even take responsibility for him! I revived him after all." "You will not," Ratchet says sternly, "as a medic you are not at fault for what a patient does after care." "And he's my responsibility," Optimus cuts in, having watched them all debate he leans against the wall crossing his arms. "With nowhere else to go I have decided Blitzwing will stay with us. I'm sorry for deciding this without consulting everyone but..."

"With it likely being my influence that caused Blitzwing's death, it would be the wrong thing to do anything else," Optimus finishes. "Optimus, come here," Sari waves him over to the rest of the gang. When he leans in close she jumps from Ratchet's hand and hugs his neck. He covers his face as the others surround him, hand on his shoulders in support. "Things will be alright, bossbot," Bumblebee says with a smile.

Blitzwing stands alone in Optimus' room. He looks at his hands, alien to him now, before raising his gaze to the window that reflects him.

He approaches the distorted reflection, reaching out. He changes the face to Zing's, looking expectantly before switching it to Wing's frowning. He switches the face multiple times more, clicking them into place but not finding peace.

"Blitzwing? Is something wrong?" Optimus asks, peering into the room as Blitzwing startles slightly, having ended up with Wing's face again. He turns around, smiling with pain, "I was just thinking about taking up the offer to get a face of my own." Optimus' reflection is distorted behind him in the window.

Sari and Optimus walks through the door greeting Ratchet. "We're back!" Sari says cheerfully, Optimus carries the screen behind her. "No trouble out there?" Ratchet asks holding his hand out for the screen. "No trouble at all," Sari says proudly, "I'm not called Sari Sumdac for nothing! Just took a few strong words to convince Powell." We see a flashback of Powell holding up his hands in surrender as Sari chews him out while Optimus looks like he's thinking about crushing the man to bits. "Thank you for your help, Sari, Optimus," Blitzwing says. "You ready?" Ratchet turns back and asks. "As I'll ever be," Blitzwing smiles, hand on his chest.

Ratchet assembles the new face with the screen before attaching it to Wing's face. "Optics coming online, so far so good," Ratchet says, withdrawing. Then he brings out a mirror so Blitzwing can see himself, his new face is a black screen with blue light as eye, mouth and detailing. "What do you think?" Ratchet asks. "Oh!" Blitzwing says, touching his face, "it's not quite what I imagined but it's... better, more like me. Thank you."

Chapter 33: I wish

"Nanosec is on the run again," Prowl says. Optimus turns, "alright, Autobots! Transform and roll out." Everyone transforms into their vehicle modes. "Um," Blitzwing starts, hesitantly. "Blitzwing, you coming?" Optimus asks. "Just slight issue, it appears like I can't transform."

"What?! My key is perfect!" Sari shouts. "Maybe I installed the face wrong, let me double check," says Ratchet, approaching. "I don't think there's anything physically wrong," Blitzwing says, jumping back before forcing a smile with Optimus behind him, "I just hit a roadblock when I attempted to transform into Blitzwing's alts." "That does line up with how the alters line up with the alters. With one having access to all it makes sense another would have access to none," Prowl says. "Talk about short end of the stick!" Bumblebee pipes up. "So is the solution to make you a quadruple changer?" Sari asks. Blitzwing leans down holding his hands up, "oh, no! Three is enough. Wouldn't want them to come online even more tampered with. I'll catch up walking." "You don't need to do that, I'll be able to carry you," Optimus says with a frown, "what I'm more worried about is if you can use your weapons." Blitzwing frowns, lowering his guns, "let's see." "No shooting in the base!" Ratchet calls out.

Blitzwing shoots anyway and out comes... "It's water?" Optimus asks, surprised. "Huh, I didn't think I'd still be able to do that," Blitzwing says. Optimus breaks out into a grin, nudging Blitzwing, "we might make a firetruck out of you yet!" "Don't make fun of me," Blitzwing says, flushing. "I'm not. Hop on, you'll get to see us Autobots in action." "I already know how you're like." "Not against humans." Optimus transforms into his truck form, carrying Blitzwing on his back deeper into Detroit.

Timeskip to Nanosec running away with a bag of money. "Haha, so long suckers!" He says before slipping on a patch of water dropping everything as he goes tumbling onto his back.

Blitzwing picks Nanosec up much to the man's confusion as he stares blankly at him. "Hey, hey, hey- aren't you one of those Decepticreeps? How about you and I cut a deal and you let me go," Nanosec says, putting on a salesman's smile, "I can get you anything from anywhere in a sec. No? Well what do you want in-" his words get cut off as his expression pinches in pain, "you're getting real tight there." He starts trying to push out of Blitzwing's grip, "it's getting hard to breathe." His face flushes as the crushing continues, "you're breaking me! Let go, let go, let go-" "Blitzwing?!" Optimus calls out.

"What are you doing?!" Optimus says, rushing over. "I am taking care of the threat," Blitzwing says as Nanosec wheezes in pain. "Give him to me," Optimus demands. When Blitzwing does he cradles the injured man in his hands, "we don't do that. Even when people act like crooks they deserve a chance to prove themselves better, they can't do that dead." "I see," Blitzwing says, pulling back. Optimus turns away, "Ratchet, can you call an ambulance?" "So long as that ambulance isn't me." Blitzwing smiles, it's not a very happy smile, as he says to himself, "... so that's why you gave them a chance."

Optimus at peace in Blitzwing's arms, they are in the forest where they'd usually meet. Blitzwing tenderly strokes his cheek. "Optimus, why won't you look at us?" Optimus' eyes open before he closest them in a smile as Blitzwing tilts his head up, "what, are you making a face? Can't I enjoy the moment?" He entwines their fingers, smile soft.

Blitzwing tilts his head up with his other hand. "You can't avoid the truth forever. Look at me." Optimus' pupils contract to pinpricks as he looks up, hunching down into fetal position when he looks away. "No, we fixed you-" "HAHAHA! Do you really believe that? Oh, Sweetspark."

"Too late! Too late," they cackle, grabbing his face. "This- this isn't real," Optimus says. Blitzwing tilts his head up again and he sees them, oil drips down. "Why did you come back fine? Why did you walk away scott free? We're both guilty of the same crime. Why did you get to live?" The drops hit Optimus' face as the mech hiccups, breaking down as he cries, "I-I'm sorry I shouldn't-"

"It's unfair," Blitzwing says, more oil drips down. Optimus' can't compose himself as he cries, fruitlessly reaching up for them, "Blitzwing, please. Blitzwing." "Won't you join us?" Their grip shakes as they grab a hold of his face and begins to pull, "Optimus!" They rip his head off, we finally see that their own neck is missing a head, dripping and sputtering oil.

Optimus wakes up panting, holding his neck. "Optimus?" Blitzwing asks, withdrawing his hand when Optimus' look at him, "are you alright?" Optimus' wipes his tears, "yeah, sorry, did I wake you?" "You called my name. Though, thinking about it, you probably weren't calling for 'me'." Optimus looks away when Blitzwing says that.

Blitzwing frowns, lip wobbling. "If it'd help I could pretend," Blitzwing says, switching his face. "What are you-?" Optimus says confused. Blitzwing has changed his face to Blitz. "I could be them if you want that. I remember what they did, how they acted," he says, leaning in, "I could probably sould like them. If I tried." Optimus' eyes widened with terror and distress as he shakes his hands, "no! I don't need you to be anyone but yourself. I miss them but that's my problem to deal with, I'm sorry I made you feel otherwise."

Blitzwing switches his face back, frown deepening. Before he sits down by Optimus' berth, looking beyond. "I think Blitzwing needs me to be someone. Sometimes I think they haven't come back because they can tell I'm a fake." Optimus' puts a hand on his shoulder, "hey."

"It's not your fault. You're here because Blitzwing needs you," Optimus says, calm, "you're not a placeholder until they come back. It's your life too." Blitzwing head falls and he covers his eyes smiling, "I'm truly nothing like you." "You say that like it's a bad thing," Optimus smiles, getting off the berth to sit by him, hand on his shoulder. "You can be yourself and things will be alright, I promise."

Blitzwing is sitting down at the Autobot base, gun aimed at Sari whom is hunched under an umbrella. "I'm ready!" She says. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Blitzwing askes. "SHOOT!" He follows her order and she is tumbling down the water slide screaming. "Ha!" Bumblebee says, amused, as he walks into the panel, "that's what I call washed away." Blitzwing sprays water in his face, grinning as Bumblebee stumbles away from the blast. "What's going on here?" Optimus asks. "Nothing~" Blitzwing says.

They quick draw and optimus manages to spray Blitzwing with water first. "Got you!" Optimus says with a grin, "didn't expect that now!" Water drips from Blitzwing's face. "Hhhhh," Optimus pauses at the sound Blitzwing makes before Blitzwing bursts into laughter. "HAHAHAHA! Snrk," Blitzwing grins.

Blitzwing is humming while walking with Optimus. He stops and Optimus turns around.

Zing is fronting. Optimus tries to reach him but Blitzwing lowers his cannons smiling.

Zing's smile fades as he realizes he's alone in the front. He hits his head and Optimus lurches forward to stop him. Blitzwing pulls away but Optimus grabs his arm.

Blitzwing switches back. Optimus hands are shaking and it takes a minute for him to let go.
