People always said that red and indigo looked good together but looking in the mirror Tenya always felt his eyes were too colorful. If one color had been by itself they wouldn't be overwhelmingly bright. The contrast in the colors clashed with his hair and usual outfits.
Tensei always reassured his brother that there was no reason to be embarrassed or insecure about his eyes. "Finding your soulmate wouldn't be that hard!" He told him repeatedly throughout the years. "Your eyes are striking, imagine how they'll look on your partner." While he was trying to help Tensei's eyes were dark blue and a gray so dark it looked black, simple colors his younger brother would rather have.
When Iida started UA he didn't expect to find his soulmate on the first day of classes. Yuga Aoyama, a blonde boy sitting in the front of the class had the same loud eyes he did. They were much prettier on him then Iida felt they were on him.
There was only one problem, Yuga was a man. While he didn't mind he wasn't sure how his parents would feel. Both of them barely tolerated Mizushima, if they knew both of their sons had male soulmates they wouldn't accept either of them.
Aoyama would have rather waited for Iida to approach him but as the first week of school went by he only spoke to him a few times about trivial matters. He never quite met his eyes. Tired of waiting he walked back to his desk the Monday of their second week. "Pretty eyes you have." He said endearingly as he leaned onto Iida's desk.
For the first time Iida genuinely smiled at the compliment. Tensei was right, they were rather pretty on his soulmate. "Thank you. I think they look better in you." His eyes matched him perfectly. From the first week of school Tenya knew Yuga had a flamboyant personality and while he hadn't seen him in anything other than a uniform he was sure that his clothing matched just that.
The boy just smiled. "I was hoping you would talk to me first but it seems you're a little shy. I wouldn't have you were the type to make me wait. Are you nervous?"                               "A little." Iida admitted.
"An honest man, I like that. Do you want to go somewhere after school sometime?"
"I believe that's a good idea. We should get to know each other. Should we exchange phone numbers so we can arrange a time and place?"
"Oui." Aoyama started to take his phone out before Iida stopped him.
"Phones are not allowed in class." The boy took out a piece of scratch paper and tore off a corner. Then he wrote his number with his blue pen and handed it to Aoyama.
The blonde blushed as he took it. "I'll call you."
Looking around the classroom Iida took note of his pears eyes. Bakugou and Kaminari matched with explosive red and electric gold eyes. Aizawa had one crimson eye and one that was half sky blue and half peridot. He knew Precent Mic matched him with one solid peridot eye and a similar half and half but with the red and blue of Aizawa and an unknown third individual. Todoroki and Sero matched with fire red and cole black. As the year would go one he would recognize more matches within his class.
It was as soon as Iida got home that Aoyama called. The two planned their outing, Tenya too scared to call it a date. They would go to a juice place Tensei and him frequented. The Iida's were regulars at the store.
Every time Tenya saw Tensei he felt a bit of guilt. He hadn't told him he had found his soulmate, something his brother was excited to do. They both silently had hoped for a girl but Tenya knew Tensei would love Aoyama. Iida always liked men more.
"I'm going to the juice bar!" Tenya yelled as he grabbed his shoes from the door. Once he was out the door he felt his stomach fill with butterflies. The two were soulmates, he knew they would be compatible. Yet he couldn't relax for the entire walk.
4:25 was the time he saw when he got to the cafe, twenty minutes before he was meant to be there. He sat at his normal table and saw that the waitress had already started pouring a glass of orange juice.
"Hey little Iida!" The waitress said handing him the glass of orange juice. Her short, curly hair matched the color of the juice.
"Hello Aoi. Thank you." He set it on the coaster beside him.
"Is your brother joining you today?"
"No, a boy from class is."
Green and yellow eyes flashed with excitement as she asked him about how UA was going. After a moment of talking she got up to leave. "I'll leave you to it. Have fun."
The chime of the bell on the door startled Tenya. Aoyama walked in and Iida learned he was right, his eyes matched him perfectly. He wore a cropped, white halter top and sparkly denim bell bottoms. While he couldn't see most of his shoes he knew he was in heels.
         "Bonjour."
The light from the windows shorn on Yuga beautifully. Blonde hair fell perfectly into place. The silver glitter on his eyes sparkled and Iida noticed the smell of a rich vanilla and floral scent. "Hello." He said, his admiration fighting his tone. "How are you?"
         "I'm fabulous. You?"
         "I'm doing well."
Just then Aoi came over and took Aoyama's order. "The sparkling strawberry and a Cheese Danish please."
"Of course." She disappeared behind the counter. While the juice bar mostly offered juice they offered small pastries that were centered around fruit or common cafe items.
"So." The blonde boy started, "Tell me about yourself."
"Well what do you want to know?"
"We'll start small. What's your favorite color?"
         "It's blue. Yours?"
"I quite like silver and purple."
It was a moment before they fell into a rhythm while talking. The orange juice was only halfway gone after an hour. Their corner of the store had been filled with quiet laughter. Smiles were exchanged between the two as they learned why they were soulmates.
For a moment they fell still, neither boy saying a word. A soft feeling landed for them both. Locking eyes they began to understand why they universe had brought them together.
"It's far past seven." Iida chuckled. "Where you supposed to be home at a specific time?"
"Non, my Mama and Papa knew I was meeting with my soulmate and told me to take my time with him. Did you?"
"No." Iida sighed. "I simply stated I would be back." Then Tenya took a risk he didn't think he would take, "Can I walk you home?"
"Oh my." Aoyama smiled. "I suppose you could."
         "Of course."
One date turned two and two turned into becoming official three months into the school year.
"My parents want to meet you!" Yuga smiled, jumping into Iida's bed. The dorms had brought the two much closer.
"I would love to meet them."
"When can I meet your's? You're brother is such a doll."
"I'm- not sure." Iida paused and then sighed. "Shortly after you met Tensei you met his soulmate. My parents don't really like Mizushima. When they learned about him they quietly put more pressure on me to continue the family line. The legacy my family holds can't be upheld by two gay men who can't give them grandchildren. When they learn about you, they will stop trying to treat Mizushima and Tensei with respect. They won't be expecting of us either." The blue haired boy help Aoyama's hands. "I don't want to put any of us through that."
         "Oh Tenya."
It was hard concealing a relationship with someone you were obviously soulmates with. The only people who needed to be convinced were Tenya's parents. Eventually the truth would be revealed to them but for now Aoyama didn't mind staying away from them.
Over time Iida started to love his eyes. He let Yuga paint his eyelids with glitter, bringing attention to them. Every time he looked in a mirror he saw they eyes of the man he loved staring back and it was hard to hate something you love so much.
People always said that red and indigo looked good together and as Tenya looked at his boyfriend as he touched up his pink lipstick in the locker room mirror, he could agree more.
