The house had just finished being built, a beautiful two story house. Plumbing had just finished being installed, electricity running, and all the foundations had been set. Now, the house was up for sale, and even though it'd take awhile for anyone to move in and bring new lives into the house, the objects making up the house were more than ready to celebrate their home being finished.
There were many introductions, as people tried to stick to their own rooms until construction was over, and now the small house party was buzzing with life. Dorian was an intimidating but friendly fellow, making himself acquainted with the other objects, Wyndolyn was sharing stories with everyone, Bathsheba was speaking with Johnny, Winnifred and Stephan were sharing a nice conversation, and many more. Almost everyone was having a good time.
Almost.
There was a small group of objects that weren't as involved in the festivities as the rest of them, and one of them was the lights of the house, Lux.
Ever since arriving, Lux was a quiet one. Made in a factory instead of two light bulbs who loved each over very much, Lux didn't come to life until they were done being installed into the house, and the electricity was connected.
Their figure was slim, fitting for them since right now, they were just the sleek ceiling lights. A simple being they were, dressed in an elegant white pantsuit, silver leg braces around both legs helping support them, their hair a gentle blonde. Their being seemed to glow gently, the potential to be a showstopper was undeniable. They were a subtle, natural beauty.
They stood to the side, a distance away from everyone else, trying not to draw attention to themselves. Feeling a hand on their shoulder, they turned around to see Mayor Celia standing behind them.
"Lux, dear, are you okay? You've been awfully quiet since your installation. Don't you want to talk to the others?"
A bit embarrassed at being called out, Lux glanced to the side. "Oh- uh...no, I'm okay, I think I'll just...stay here."
"Why's that? You've been here for a few weeks and you haven't spoken to anyone besides me and Eddison. What's wrong?"
Lux sighed, they couldn't keep much away from Mayor Celia. Not only because they were very close, the lights were directly on the ceiling, but also because she was the stern, responsible kind of person, strong-willed enough to not let anything worrying slide. She got things done, and didn't back off until she knew everything was okay. She was almost motherly to Lux, she was the first person they found after life sprung into them, and the only one who actively tried to talk to them.
"...It's just...I'm not too sure about any of this. I- I barely even know who everyone is, how to even talk to them, I don't...I don't even know who I am yet."
"I understand the grip of uncertainty can make interacting with others difficult, but you'll never know until you take the initiative. You're afraid of not knowing things, but you aren't trying to learn."
"And what if I mess up while trying to learn?"
Celia sighed, "Lux...how about this. Try to learn about relationships and people...but not directly at first. Try to find a way to...observe maybe. Figure out a little more on relationships before you try and find your own."
"...Well...I guess I can try that."
"Good. All I ask is that you try, I don't want you to be alone. Feel free to talk to me if you wish, I'll be joining the others in the festivities. Things may get a bit more hectic now that we're gonna be prepping for new arrivals, but I always have time for you."
"Of course...thanks, Mayor Celia. I'll keep that in mind."
Waving her off as she made her way back to the others, Lux began to think. Learning about relationships...where did people go to learn about relationships?
Observing...looking...looking up- the internet!
"Oh, of course! The internet has something for everything, there's gotta be something for me here."
They weren't entirely sure where it came from, but unlike the others, Lux did have a phone. It just...came with them. They didn't worry too much about it, many objects came with things they didn't know about.
Looking up how to make friends, they didn't find much, just a lot of motivational feel good things about "being yourself" and being confident. Easier said than done. But then, they came across something.
"It may be easier to start off by making friends online."
...Huh.
Lux had never thought of that before.
Thinking about it now, it made sense. There were tons of people on the internet, and if they messed up, it was okay, it was all online, they could try again with someone new. When were done, they'd be able to talk with the others with the new knowledge they had.
Social media was a good place to start, right? That's how most people meet anyway. Lux whipped up a quick account on Twitter, nothing fancy, but cute and friendly enough.

Lux couldn’t help blushing at the compliment, and people were liking their post too! It was just a photo of their face, did it really garner the attention of nine whole people? They didn’t expect this to go as well as it did. The idea of social media wasn’t something they thought of a lot, but looking at it now…they could keep this up for a little while longer.
They’d just make a few friends, and learn as they went, and when they were ready, they’d go talk to the others. It’d be more fun than anything they’ve done so far, the internet could be a magical place! Atleast to someone like Lux, who hasn’t existed for too long. Some social media never harmed anyone, right?
It was nothing that big after all.
