Men are trash, but Yuuri is awesome

Summary:

Victor’s not who he seems and Yuuri goes viral being a public icon

Work Text:

Men were disgusting , Yuuri thought with a curl of the lip, watching them leer at a passing woman across the street, greedy eyes following the flow of her skirt - and no doubt trying to get a peak at what was underneath it. It curled Yuuri’s stomach to see.

Only it didn’t stop there.

A wolf whistle cut across the street.

“Hey, babe,” one guy grinned. A little too friendly , Yuuri thought.

Then one stepped in the middle of the pavement, blocking the path. “What? You won’t give us a smile?”

The woman - to her credit - didn’t stop. She darted around the man without so much as breaking stride in her heels and certainly without cracking a smile beneath her large, oversized sunglasses.

Yuuri thought that was the end of it, watching her flip her long platinum blonde curls over her shoulder in the boy’s wake.

But then they walked after her.

Yuuri saw red.

He was pushing himself off the wall he was leaning on before he knew what he was doing, a quick glance out of the corner of his eye to dodge traffic as he cut across the road, eyes only for the guy - no, two guys starting to follow the woman down the street.

“Hey!” he called out, hopping onto the pavement. Nobody listened to him. Yuuri grabbed the sleeve of one of the guys. “Hey, why don’t you leave her alone?”

Sneering eyes loomed right in Yuuri’s face, a back off look if Yuuri had ever seen one. His innards quaked a little - he didn’t usually cause trouble, had never even been punched. He wouldn’t be surprised if that was about to change. Still, he didn’t think he’d mind if it was standing up for the right thing.

A few paces along, the woman stopped too, turning around. Out of the corner of his eye, Yuuri noticed she took off her sunglasses.

So did the other guy not currently getting in Yuuri’s face.

“Ah shit,” he muttered, tapping his buddy on the arm. “It’s that TikTok guy. Let’s go, man.”

Yuuri felt his heartbeat thrumming right down to his fingertips with adrenalin, not knowing until the very last second as the guys moved back down the street they came with a grossed out look over their shoulder if they were going to take a blow at Yuuri with them. It took everything in him to stand his ground, not to flinch. He held his breath as they passed… and then finally they were sniggering behind him, gone.

Yuuri breathed a sigh of relief.

And then he saw the woman - only they weren’t a woman.

“O-oh!” he stammered, surprised. “S-sorry, I thought, um-”

Now that he was closer, he could see. The woman wasn’t a woman at all - just a man with a beautifully androgynous face and long platinum hair, dressed in a very flattering dress and heels. They looked good on him , Yuuri couldn’t help but think before he mentally slapped himself in the face. He wasn’t much better than the creeps that had been following him.

No, actually , Yuuri dared to correct himself. He was better than that.

He forced a nice smile on his face - conscious to make sure it was actually nice, not just creepy like the other guys.

“I guess it doesn’t matter actually,” he said. Just because he was a man didn’t mean those guys’ behaviour had been any less threatening. “Are you okay?”

The person just stared at Yuuri.

He had nice eyelashes too , Yuuri noticed despite himself. They were long and pretty, framing bright blue eyes..

“Yeah.” Those bright blue eyes blinked. They looked just as shocked as Yuuri. “Sorry, um… I’m actually doing a social experiment for my channel. Seeing how much catcalling women get on the street.”

“Oh,” Yuuri nodded, feeling his palms start to sweat. They had a nice voice too . “I see…”

“I’m sorry, it’s just-” they smiled. God, they had a nice smile too! “I didn’t expect to see someone like you. You know, nice.”

Yuuri’s heart quaked happily in his chest. He thought Yuuri was nice! “R-right.” He was so fucked, feeling totally overwhelmed by the smile, and the eyes, and the cock of the hip under the skirt as the guy leaned his weight onto the other leg and curled a strand of silver hair around his finger, kind of like he was flirting- “Wait, what do you mean your channel?”

The guy’s smile widened, nodding his head to the side.

Further across the sidewalk was another man watching them, one with tight blonde curls, a Go Pro in his hand and shit-eating grin on his face.

“Smile,” the cameraman said with a twinkle in his green eyes. “You’re on camera.”

“Live,” the one in the dress added over Yuuri’s shoulder.

Yuuri felt himself pale and flush scarlet in the span of half a second, heart skipping a beat in his chest and hands coming up to guard his face before he could help it. He didn’t want to be on camera - especially not live! Especially if this guy actually had a decent amount of followers, which - seeing as the creeps had ended up recognising him - might actually be a possibility.

This was what Yuuri got for trying to be a nice guy, he thought to himself. He couldn’t quite bring himself to regret it though.

What if it had been his sister?

The guy in the dress pulled out his phone from his sly little black handbag, eyes alight with glee as he tapped on the screen.

What’s your name?” he read - off the comments off the live stream , Yuuri guessed. “The internet wants to know.”

Yuuri swallowed thickly, forcing his hands back down to his sides when it was clear he wasn’t going anywhere. The only way out would be to run and he’d look even more stupid then…

“Y-Yuuri.”

“That’s a cute name,” the guy’s smile widened. “I’m Victor.”

Victor… now that Yuuri thought about it, he might have heard of a famous Victor on the social media circuit. Not enough to know what he did, but enough to vaguely recognise the name.

“H-hi,” Yuuri forced himself to smile.

He was on camera. Hundreds of people - maybe thousands, he didn’t know Victor’s follower count - were watching him! Awkward, frumpy, unglamorous him…

Victor still smiled though, beaming down at his phone. “They want to know why you stepped in like that.”

Oh shit.
Yuuri felt panic. Had he unintentionally crossed the line? He thought he was possibly helping stop a woman being attacked, but should he actually have minded his own business? All the slogans seemed to say to call other men out on their bullshit, Yuuri thought he was just being a nice guy but maybe the internet was about to put him in his place. He knew the wrath of the internet. They could find out where he lived, where he worked, he could lose his job-

“I, um,” he forced out, trying to ignore how sick he felt. “I just thought they shouldn’t be treating you like that. Any women - o-or men! Just, um… I don’t know, it felt unsafe and I didn’t want anything to happen to you.” He shuffled on the spot, feeling foolish. “You should be able to walk down the street without anybody bothering you.”

He wasn’t sure if it was just wishful thinking or if Victor’s smile widened ever so slightly. Or a lot.

Was that good?

Was that because Yuuri had said the right thing or because Victor’s account was about to get a load of attention because he’d said the wrong thing. Yuuri could already see his life going down the drain -

“They want to know if you’re single?”

Yuuri opened his mouth.

“Actually Victor,” the cameraman chipped in. “I can’t see anybody asking that in the comments.”

Yuuri glanced over to him. What?

Victor just shrugged. “Okay, then. I want to know it.” He batted his long eyelashes at Yuuri. “Well?”

“Um,” Yuuri swallowed the lump in his throat. “Y-yeah.”

“Do you like coffee?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you like me?”

Yuuri felt the last of his dignity fizzle down the drain, the cameraman kindly zooming in on him to get every last dreg.

“Y-yeah.”

Victor didn’t seem fazed in the slightest though, beaming as he flounced over to Yuuri’s side, threading his arm though his.

“Great!” he beamed, tilting his head so his long blonde curls fell over Yuuri’s shoulder. His hair was soft , Yuuri couldn’t help think with a gaping mouth as one brushed his cheek. “Let’s go! My treat. Chris, see you after lunch.”

“Bye, cheri!”

Yuuri didn’t really know what was happening, but he was happy to be being led away from the camera - on Victor’s arm no less! He felt the colour flood back to his face as Victor leaned in close, teasing smile on his pretty lips and batting those eyelashes again.

“So, Yuuri,” he smiled. “Tell me more about the sweet guy who rescued me.”
