and I feel safe just by hearing your voice

Summary:

Dvir doesn't know this, but that phone call will be the last time he ever hears his voice.

Notes:

I wrote this because I got bored so it looks like shit

Work Text:

Qasim laid on the bloodied ground.

Falling in and out of conciousness as he tried to search for his belongings.

"Shit shit shit..."

Qasim attempted to sit up, but failed with the little amount of strength he had left in him.

"Ow, fuck. Where is it..."

Qasim managed to find his phone, but had to reach over a bit to get it.

He groaned in pain as he did so.

"Agh... finally."

Qasim turned the phone on and saw multiple missed calls from Dvir, earlier in the day.

And a voicemail.

Qasim went to the voicemail and decided to listen to it.

"Hey, Qasim. Are you free later today? Jean-Claude and I are going out, if you want to come. Call me once you can, alright? I'll see you soon, bye."

"Shit..."

Qasim began to call Dvir on his phone.

"Please, please, please..."

...

Dvir's phone rang.

He gently placed down the kitchen knife and picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Umm, Hi Dvir. How are you..?" Qasim.

"Pretty good. I'm making Jean and I some tacos." Dvir smiled as he continued cutting up the meat.

Dvir immediately thought something was off about the way he sounded, but he brushed it off as Qasim just being tired.

...It was really late at night, after all.

"Cool, cool...Anything eventful recently? It's. It's been a while."

"Yeah, Lara and I did a bit of gardening yesterday, and Jean-Claude and I have been hanging out a lot these days."

"Who is that?" Jean-Claude was heard in the distance.

"It's Qasim!" Dvir lowered the phone.

"Oh, Hi Qasim!"

"Jean said hi." Dvir held the phone back up to his ear.

"How's he doing?"

"Pretty good, I'd say. Glad to keep him company." Dvir looked at Jean-Claude, then smiled.

"Alright, that's nice."

"What have you been up to? It's been a while, and I know you're busy with your career and stuff."

"Uh huh... Yep. It's been... a lot. Been stuck doing things, can't really spare much time to do anything recently."

"I can tell, you sound tired."

"Yeah. yeah... Anyways, I'll try to see you soon, alright?"

"Going to bed?" Dvir asked.

"Uhm...yeah, sure. I just...wanted to check up on you, yeah..??"

"Yep, Goodnight Qasim."

"Mhm, I'll see you soon."

...

Qasim laid peacefully on the bloodied ground.

He knew a little too well there was no way he could possibly make it.

How far was the nearest hospital? Qasim didn't know.

Considering how far out of town he was though...

He'd assume pretty far.

Qasim smiled, knowing he spent his last moments talking to the one he loved most.

Even if they couldn't physically see each other.

Qasim was happy.
