Earth 6174: Existential Crisis

Summary:

Imagine a fractured alternate reality, one riddled with the rampant meddling of chronoskimmers & time travelers generating so many "What if's" that they've collapsed into themselves forming a singular reality: 6174.

72 teams/cells, 550+ characters across 25 geographically pinpointed domains as well as 3 generations of descendants, all of whom's codenames, human names & abilities are listed. The timeline spans 3,000,029 BCE to 2199 AD. Many aliases & themes have been repurposed to my liking, but I do not own the rights to these characters as this outline is a work of fan fiction.

What if...
Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are never born?
Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel & Iceman are never X-Men?
Charles Xavier marries Grace Lavreaux & Cassandra Nova is their daughter?
Deathbird becomes Dark Phoenix?
Belasco is a mutant & Nightcrawler's father with Mystique?
Illyana Rasputin ends up in Shi'ar space instead of Limbo joining the Starjammers as Astra?
The Legacy Virus is engineered to target humans & prepare Earth for a Shi'ar invasion?
Shadow King possesses Namor to rule Atlantis?
A.R. Cadenski is elected President w/ Cameron Hodge as VP?

Ant-Man/Hank Pym, The Wasp/Janet Van Dyne, Wonder Man/Simon Williams, Whizzer/Robert Frank and Miss America/Madeline Joyce join forces to thwart alien invader, Lucifer, as The Brigade, they become the first superhero team to emerge in this timeline, rescuing mutant telepath Charles Xavier and inspiring his Sanctions Executive Initiative. In a freak accident involving artificial intelligence, Pym particles and the Quantum Realm; Hank, Janet and Simon’s consciousnesses are indefinitely bound to the robotic shell of Ultron as their bodies’ molecular cohesion evaporates. Robert and Madeline appear to perish entirely. Seeking help from Reed Richards, they’re able to separate their minds into new android bodies, Janet becomes Jacosta, Simon occupies an android called Vision and Hank retains his possession of Ultron. Pym convinces Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm and Stephen Strange to join him on an expedition of the Quantum Realm in search of Miss America and Whizzer, much to Sue Storm’s dismay, leaving her with their son, Franklin. The four are never seen again. Invisible Woman later joins Morbius and his coven, the Nightstalkers, becoming a vampire herself. Franklin rejects his mother’s offer of immortality and gathers a team of young heroes to find his dad in the Quantum Realm.

1969
Christopher Summers and his sons, Scott and Alex are abducted by Erik the Red of the Shi’ar leaving his wife, Katherine Summers with their unborn son, Gabriel, both surviving the resulting plane crash in the only in-tact parachute. The two Summers brothers’ mutant nature is revealed and they become weapons of war and conquest for the Shi’ar Empire. Christopher is left for dead on Alisbar, but is rescued by Raza Longknife who’s race implements cybernetic enhancements as rights of passage. He takes the name Cable.
Erik the Red also strikes a deal with Sinister on behalf of Deathbird to hide Jean Grey away in stasis and to use a clone of her to eventually psychically compel the cosmic entity known as The Phoenix Force to adopt Princess Cal’syee Neramani as its avatar instead.
He also compels Apocalypse to recruit Robert Drake as a Horseman, but his attempts to repel Hank McCoy and Warren Worthington III from heroics encouraged them even more, with the two co-founding the Defenders.
Charles Xavier falls in love with Grace Levreaux who had used her powers to save her family from a car crash, but to no avail. He helps her harness her command over her personal pocket-dimension, Nowhere, and the two set out to establish a mutant security force called X.S.E. Xavier’s Sanctions Executives.

1979
Belasco and Mystique revel in a hedonistic rule over Limbo for 200 years. The two create aliases Nicodemus Nym and Raven Darkholme to reinvigorate the Hellfire Club seeking out other immortals and elevating mutants as celebrities in stark contrast to the less popular Xavier Sanctions Executive, Charles Xavier’s fledgling mutant security force. Belasco & Mystique beget Nightcrawler and Witchfire, and their immortal mystic mistress, Margali Szardos, delivers Magik and Abyss. They encourage mutants to tap into mysticism to enhance their powers, especially the dark arts associated with the demonic realm, Limbo.
Katherine Summers feels compelled to seek out Charles Xavier, believing the child within her to be responsible for their survival. Gabriel Summers eventually becomes one of Xavier’s X-Men, exploring Grace Xavier’s expansive and unpredictable pocket dimension, Nowhere, after her union with half of the Phoenix Force. His mother Katharine is chosen as the first human to dawn the Imperial Guard’s ’Smasher’ mantle and with it, a power suit granting flight, strength and EXO vision.
Cable thwarts an assassination attempt on Lilandra’s life and in joining her, the two become enthralled with each other. He doesn’t realize that not only is his wife alive, but she’s aligned with D’Ken and Deathbird as a member of the Imperial Guardians.

1989
After finding the sentient bacterium calling itself Sublime the perfect host body in that of the immortal proto-mutant Gabriel Shepherd, Sinister and Sublime release the Legacy virus which wipes out 98% of baseline humanity, leaving 164,000,000 humans on Earth.
Sinister accelerates Illyana Rasputin’s age to access her stepping disc portals and send her as a messenger to the Shi’ar that Earth is prepared for their arrival. Being galaxies away, he loses his telepathic link with her and she rebels. She loses access to the long range aspect of her portal abilities along with her right arm. She dawns a cybernetic arm wielding an energy blade and calling herself Astra, eventually aiding in Cyclops’s escape and joining him as a member of the Starjammers.
Humans with latent mutant genes are immune to the virus, and from the ashes a Mad-Max society of Super Soldier Serum souped and cyberneticalley enhanced Sapien Supremacists claim Genosha as their sovereign soil while setting their sights on territorial expansion. They elect Arcade and Cameron Hodge their President and Vice President, with Courtney Ross as their glamorous First Lady. They relentlessly rally anti-mutant sentiment touting propaganda to win and initiate Operation Zero Tolerance, with the Secretary of Defense, Bastion enlisting humans as candidates for Prime Sentinel programming to survive in a super powered world and crack down on “rampant mutant crime” in Genosha.

1999
Belasco casts a powerful spell initiating the Five Forsaken Bloodstones (Absolom, Burke, Clarity, Scarab & Locomotive Breath) and traversing time to influence Trevor Fitzroy in 2099 to simultaneously activate the Five Foretold Bloodstones (Malcolm, Randall, Edgar, Sureshot & Recoil) to open a gateway between past and future and initiate an interdimensional convergence overlapping Limbo with Earth. Landmasses shift, the oceans churn, cities crumble and burn and the world is remade anew.
Roma sacrifices her immortality to infuse Avalon into the European landscape, infusing lush life and mystic energy to counter Limbo’s desolate, demonic desert. From the South, Storm and Polaris generate enough energy to supercharge The Forgotten Land’s Nuwali Climate Generators to not only resist the hostel dimensional takeover, but expand their own reach. The Frost Giants flee Jotunheim when Thanos unites with Hela to become Ruler of Asgard taking shelter in Midgard’s Northwestern Passages.
The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse: Paradigm/Death, Legion/Pestilence, Blacksmith/War and Iceman/Famine organize a coup against their maker striking a deal with Laufey to make a larger swath of Earth more hospitable to the icy Frost Giants as long as they swear an oath to defending The Four as their sovereign rulers coating the entirety of the Northwestern Hemisphere in treacherous ice and snow and calling it Golgotha. John Greycrow takes inspiration from Wakanda and creates a hidden Neo-Native American metropolis, called Elysium, reclaiming the North American Great Plains and a secret bound by a nanobot that randomly selects a sense to nullify unless vetted through established channels. Apocalypse is obliterated in battle with The Four and the Frost Giants, and retreats to Akkaba to summon and weaponize the Externals against his former scions.
The boarders of these territories meet at the nexus, off the West Coast of Africa in Cape Verde where an island sized futuristic vessel appears piloted by Bishop and Shard, who hijacked the ship to follow Trevor Fitzroy and avenge their five fallen X.S.E. comrades. The journey blows out the ship’s engine, stranding the time travelers in their past. They seek out Xavier’s X-Men, only to encounter a very different team and world than the one they knew. Xavier is married to a woman named Grace who can open portals to a dimension of her own creation called Nowhere. They advise a motley crew at first, but with the siblings’ knowledge of the future, they establish a more powerful mutant union. Bishop and Shard had been hunting down Trevor Fitzroy to avenge his murder of their five colleagues, but lost his trail. They begin to suspect Fitzroy’s time traveling is strategic and has severely altered the timeline with all five original X-Men scattered or missing along with a growing list of rewritten instants in history.

2009
The intuitive inventor Forge repurposes the future ship in Cape Verde, coining it Providence as a sanctuary to those fleeing the harsh landscapes of Golgotha and Limbo. Shard departs for space to closer examine Shi’ar activity as she connects the dots between Belasco, Sinister and Majestor D’Ken as a member of the Starjammers.
The first Acolytes of Magneto encounter The Brood, with the entire group becoming infected, the team’s telepath Anne-Marie Cortez expels the last of her mental might to mind meld the mutant and Brood conciousnesses and sever their psychic connection to the Brood mother-hive. Now each two halves of a different whole, they refer to each other using their human half’s last name and continue serving Magneto, but their allegiance bends more to his bride and their surrogate Queen, Deathbird.

2019
The Shi’ar colonize Mars, sanctifying the planet Chandilar and it’s capitol city, Sharra, after their goddess of creation as D’Ken weds the reincarnation of the Starhawk god, Shi’ar/Human hybrid, Heather Cameron. They begin hunting and enslaving mutants on Earth to snuff out the prophesied avatar of the Phoenix and divert the cosmic force of creation’s attention to Princess Cal’syee Neramani, Deathbird. She hires Sinister to hide Jean Grey in suspended animation in the heart of Krakoa. He clones her with power dampeners and permanently possessed by the psionic entity, Malice, using a sliver of the M’Kraan Crystal to compel the celestial firebird to possess Deathbird as it’s avatar. As the Dark Phoenix she annihilates The Celestials, The Eternals homeworld, Saturn’s moon, Titan, along with the Kree, Skrull, Kymellian and Badoon homeworlds, declaring herself Universal Majestrix Supreme.
Twelve mutants band together to defeat The Dark Phoenix, with their selfless sacrifice and bravery igniting the empathy in the Starchild and siphoning her power bit by bit until the lot of them possessed one twelfth the power of a god, banishing a powerless Deathbird into the lifeless void she created. Ultimately The Phoenix decides to split it’s power between the Xorns. The Phoenix Twins set out to bring balance to a chaotic world, permanently altering the mutant X-Factor gene to enhance overall regenerative capabilities easily doubling the average mutant’s life expectancy as well as granting all mutants baseline telepathy to access the Astral Plane to communicate in a disconnected world. In addition, 10% of mutants join the slightly less exclusive Externals club, boasting immortality and a power boost. The weight of responsibility the Phoenix carries is more than Shen can bare and seeing a need for an alternative to Earth for mutantkind’s future, he convinces his half of the Phoenix to fuse with Grace Xavier AKA Gaia, bestowing upon her the raw power to expand and reinforce her pocket dimension, Everafter, as a forever home. Grace and Xavier’s daughter, Cassandra is jealous that her mother was chosen over her to embody the celestial firebird and seeks to undermine and challenge her mother’s sovereignty over Everafter.
Cortex puts it upon himself to safeguard the expanded Astral Plane as hundreds of thousands of mutants access it for the first time. The Shadow King in possession of King Namor and betrothed to Selene, harnesses the Darkforce Dimension to merge it with the Astral Plane, creating a counter culture of mutants (The Folding Circle) who follow the Shadow King to tap into the Darkforce granting shadow melding and teleportation. Cortex gathers a group of powerful telepaths (Psionex) to manifest the Panoptichron to act as the Astral Plane’s hub, fortifying his own psionic territory as the Shadow King’s Darkforce influence envelops the Wellspring of Power.

2029
Sinister aids Spiral in overthrowing Mojo to reinvent and control interdimensional broadcasting. Rebranding as “Mojovision,” the sadistic duo launch the sentient mutant landmass, Krakoa, into Mars’ orbit as it’s 3rd and largest moon and the network’s new base of operations. On the 4th day every 4 months they “recruit” four teams within the Milky Way Galaxy and “permissibly” teleport them to Krakoa for a Gladiatorial Contest using the Space-Time Platform, three matches, winners take all the glory. If at least one living being doesn’t set foot on the platform to participate, their immediate vicinity becomes target to a giant Krakoan Golum hellbent on crushing anything in its’ path. The odds are not always fair in the games, influencing mutants and other surviving super-humans to band together not only as teams, but as “Cells” combining their abilities to become more powerful as a unit and sometimes to protect those who aren’t ready to face the likes of trained assassins and cosmic powerhouses. Each losing Cell must elect one representative to a duel to the death fulfilling the 4th match, refusal to participate in this round forfeits the life of another teammate at random, but if both parties are giving their all and going for the jugular, Sinister will often pardon them both to fight another day. The four victorious teams are entered into the annual Battle Royale, where each team is paired with another, friend or foe, to defeat the opposing paired team. The Curia Regis Galaxias Kyklos is established to represent the 25 domains, the majority of them harboring nefarious intentions, in particular the more exclusive lot of Externals who've come to power.

2079
In a Hail Mary, Humans initiate World War X activating an army of Undead Prime Sentinels to eliminate mutants and pretty much any life left on Earth. Those that can go off-world to survive, do. Apocalypse and his Externals overthrow and humiliate Sinister, rebranding the living planet Krakoa as Arakko. Sinister returns to Earth to begin anew.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2099
With the Fall of Avalon and the Forgotten Land, Earth is a dismal shadow of its former self. Gaia seals the portal to Nowhere.
Cortex bestows guardianship over the Astral Plane to hive-mind telepath Layla Frost Madrox AKA Myriad. Bishop and Shard evacuate the Providence Mothership’s population of 25,000 odd mutants, humans and aliens to an abandoned Antarctic Subterranean Base in a Volcano as they initiate a blast to the past to avenge their friends and fix their timeline.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2119
The Earth is enveloped in darkness when The Vampire Queen, Sue Storm Morbius AKA Enigma, makes the sun invisible. While the heat still emanates, the light is completely absent, bringing a seemingly eternal darkness, destruction and even more death. She then recruits Sinister to further enhance Vampires as the crescendo of her reign supreme. The last heroes standing do what they can to protect what’s left of humanity down to the last 2 standing Stormbreaker and Menagerie.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2159
Ozymandias emerges with the mutant offspring he hid away from Enigma, instructing them on defeating an invisible enemy as Tribe X. They succeed in beheading her and destroying her heart, but many of her minions escape with Vampirism in tact thanks to Sinister’s genetic mods. Tribe X returns to a broken world of traumatized human-alien hybrids living in ruins and continue fighting to liberate any territories overthrown by surviving members of the Bloodcoven.

2199
Despite saving sentient life on Earth, humans and similarly baseline extraterrestrials alike still distrust the powered, establishing a High Council that imposes genetic testing to root out mutations at birth. The last mutant on Earth and one of very few mystics, Dreamcatcher (Shoshana Lehnsherr), navigates this deceptively utopian future as she begins experiencing the dreams of other mutants in another dimension called Nowhere. The immortal Daywalker Vampire hybrid, Wake (Uriel Doom Murdock) gleans a mental snapshot from Shoshana and offers to take her on as his pupil in the mystic arts with the ulterior motive of using her as his ticket off of a dying reality.
