Chapter 01. It's open... again.
Velma Dinkley was a woman of science; she believed that all things had a reason or that there was logic behind something, and solving mysteries was just solving mysteries. There was always somebody behind a mask, somebody behind the scenes, pulling the strings to pop up at your events to make it seem like the supernatural was real, ghost goblins, vampires, werewolves, they were all the same always somebody behind a mask cheap make up costume special movie effects, there was always logic behind their mysteries. This was why she didn’t believe in the supernatural; nothing about it was logical or factual.
There was no such thing as magic or actual monsters. The ghost didn’t exist. Vampires weren’t real, goblins weren’t a thing, and above all else, she did not believe in demons.
Even though Velma and her friends, the Scooby Doo mystery, Inc. gang had solved countless mysteries and had tango with numerous felons all use the supernatural as a means to commit crimes or some other form of atrocities, but even then Velma was always able to point out the flaw in a so-called “monsters“ plans or reasoning behind why they were haunting the place even when places had reasons for “monsters” existing there was always someone there using the legend or myth of that monster for their gain, and it was her job as the gang's smartest member to solve it.
And as of right now, she had had enough of the whole case about the chest of demons and Vincent van Ghoul, being a sorcerer and using magic and things like that, it was too much for her even after they solve the mystery they still treated that old treasure chest like it was containing 13 dangerous demons, and ghost.
“Velma? What are you doing?” Daphne Flim-Flam and Fred all gasped upon watching as Velma laid a hand on the Chest of Demons.
“I already told you, those aren’t real. Everything that happened was caused by a mass solution of the thin Himalayan air watch. I’m going to prove this here now.” Now, Velma had been teasing her friends by acting like she was going to open the real Chest, even after seeing everyone's fearful faces, she almost decided not to.
But at the same time, she felt like she needed to do this mainly because everyone’s fear was irrational. There was no such thing as demons. Everything had been a simple hallucination, and she was going to prove it right here, right now.
As she was getting ready to open it, Vincent van Ghoul, Scooby, and Shaggy had finally taken notice of what Velma was going to open the chest, and their faces looked equally fearful. “Velma! Don’t!” But it was too late.
She’d only meant to open it a little, but the moment she clicked it open…things went to hell.
There was a blinding flash of light.
An explosion of monstrous force knocked everyone off their feet.
And then…an unearthly howl.
A deep, gravelly howl that quickly increased to a high-pitched shriek. When the gang managed to get their bearings, they found the source of the howl…was the chest of Demons.
From the chest, there was this rotten aura flowing around it like a dark fog. As the aura got bigger and bigger, human screams began to ring out from it. The ghastly images of tortured victims radiated from the chest, and the force of its power caused the mountains to fracture and shake. The air became stiff. The snow boiled at the very presence of this ungodly force.
“Not again!” Screamed Shaggy, Scooby, Flim-Flam, Vincent, and Daphne as they watched the energy expelling from the chest.
“Daphne! Get a barrier up! This much negative spiritual energy could kill them!" Vincent shouted over the howling winds, motioning towards Velma and Freddy, who were on the ground, gasping for breath as it felt as if the air itself was attempting to strangle them. “Flim-Flam! The plane! Scooby Shaggy! Keep any strays from escaping!”
The secondary Scooby doo gang nodded. Daphne ran over towards Freddy and Velma, her hands glowing with a mysterious mystical light. “Honor Guard! Shield Of the Seraphim!"
Freddy and Velma watched in awe as glowing runic formations appeared in circular shapes; spell circles. They encircled them and seemed to cleanse the air of the thick smog that had left Freddy and Velma gasping for oxygen. “Freddy, Velma, are you both alright?”
“F-fine, Daphne.” Freddy rasped, clutching his chest as fresh air made its way into his lungs. “But, what’s…what’s going on? What is this? How are you?”
“Freddy, less talking, trying to focus here.” Daphne turned her attention back towards the thousands of grim-looking ghoulish souls that attempted to penetrate her barrier. “Shaggy! Scooby! Any time now!”
“Right!” Freddy turned just to find that his eyes widened upon watching as Shaggy’s hands emitted a floral green light, and from the ground, large glowing stalks of some type of flowers encircled the human members of the Scooby gang. “Zoinks! Like, I knew carrying around those Rosemary seeds would come in handy!” He turned towards Scooby. “Scooby! Get them away from us while we get Freddy and Velma on the plane!”
“Right, Raggy!” As if things couldn’t get even weirder, the tip of Scooby’s tail ignited with a hellish light as he inhaled deeply. “HOWWLLLLLLL!” A massive cone of fire erupted from Scooby’s mouth, the flames boiled the snow, or what little was left of it there was, and the ground itself was turned into ash, completely incinerated, any spirits that lingered about however found themselves screaming as they were caught in the cone consuming them in the hellish flames and ending them.
Scooby wasn’t done as the Great Dane slammed his front legs on the blackened ground. The earth trembled before erupting from the blackened soil were hundreds of chains; blacker than obsidian, and covered in barbed wire and spikes, any spirits that managed to escape the flames were impaled by the chains and found themselves dragged back down into the depths where they came from.
As this was happening, Vincent was fighting his way towards the Chest, hands illuminated with magical energy, taking the form of solid energy constructs in the shape of disks. “By the seven layers of hell! I will bind you!” The disks broke apart into numerous strands of magical energy that managed to grab the chest before he was knocked back with a gasp and landed next to the Scooby gang.
“Vincent!” Scooby, Shaggy, and Daphne called as they watched the collective energy that had escaped from the chest started taking shape; becoming a floating head with a demonic/reptilian look with a short snout with sharp teeth, a pair of large black bull horns on each side of his head with a mane of short purple spikes between them running down the back. His eyes had become a toxic glowing orange, with a third one right between them.
“We need to leave!” Vincent managed to stand holding the chest in a containment field of glowing runes and magical power. “Flim-Flam!” At his shout, glowing purple energy erupted around the group, forming into large glowing ghostly hands that carefully collected the gang and pulled them into the jet, which took off the moment that they were inside it.
“W-What is happening?!” Snapped, Velma had finally gathered her wits enough to speak. “ What just happened? What came out of the chest, Daphne? Shaggy, what did you just do with your hands? They were glowing and Scooby. He breathed fire in those chains and what?!”
“You were warned.” Eyes turned towards Vincent, who slowly stood upwards and dusted himself off, and fixed his outfit. “You were warned not to open the chest, your friends told you the dangers, and I warned you what would happen.” Setting the chest aside, the man began to approach Velma, who backed up against the wall.
“Now, because of you, the chest of demons has been opened for the third time, releasing the 13 ghosts, making them even stronger than they were before, and these are the same ones your friends sealed away. No, no, this is a much greater threat than what the world has ever seen.” Pulling back, Vincent exhaled. “And if we can’t stop them, we run the risk of the world being plunged into darkness.”
