Chapter Text
✮ Giyuu suffers long-term problems from hypothermia & severe frostbite ✮ THAT MAY INCLUDE (I USED GOOGLE SO DON'T COME FOR ME IF THESE ARE WRONG):
-HYPOTHERMIA: While it can improve survival rates and reduce the severity of brain injury, it can also cause short-term memory loss, increase the risk of infections, especially wound infections and pneumonia, organ damage, neurological issues (like confusion and disorientation), and can lead to heart problems, including arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat).
-FROSTBITE: Chronic pain, increased sensitivity to cold, nerve damage, numbness, phantom pain, circulatory issues. +Higher risk of developing frostbite again.
~Kid-Giyuu was in the snow for atleast a night- Though no one actually knows the full time he was unconscious as Giyuu's mind blocked the memories out (trauma response or something). Most who know about it say it's a miracle for him to live. ~
✮ Giyuu's Blind in his left eye from the Final Selection Injury! ✮
-Half-Blind: Giyuu is blind in his left eye from the injuries he obtained during his Final Selection. The iris is duller than his right, working eye, and the pupil has a white tint to it. To hide his blindness, Giyuu uses blue contacts (That's a couple shades off from his proper eye colour lol). Coloured eye contacts were invented in the last 1930s, and Demon Slayer takes place in the Taishou Era (1912-1926) so it's close enough for me! 😋
✮ Urokodaki found lil' Giyuu over a three mile radius from any villages or towns, meaning he ran for atleast twenty-five minutes straight. ✮
✮ When lil' Giyuu was first brought back to Urokodaki's hut, he was in a coma for 8 straight days. When he woke up, Sabito was very intrigued by his bright blue eyes and wounds (that he got from his "doctor" relatives). ✮
✮ Giyuu in a great cook!! Taught by Urokodaki, and a couple recipes from Mitsuri. He USED to cook with Sabito. ✮
✮ Giyuu gets flustered very easily. ✮
✮ Giyuu has a wolfcut! The layers in his hair make the spikeys lol. He also has curtain bangs (I think they are (or normally are) with wolfcuts anyway tho-). HE'S GLORIOUSSSS <3 ✮
✮ After Final Selection, Giyuu never saw Urokodaki. The only way Urokodaki knew he was alive is by a letter Kagaya sent. ✮
✮ When Giyuu first got the Hashira role, the other Hashiras were: Kanae, Gyomei, Uzui, and Shinjuro. - So not many, and because of the lack of hashiras, they were very busy. ✮
✮ Giyuu is: Polish, Norwegian, and Japanese,
His fav food: Simmered Salmon with Daikon Radish
His fav colour: Liliac and Water-clear-blue
His fav animals: Sugar Gliders, Deer, Weasels, and Binturong
His fav hobby: Eyeliner + Making clothing/Accessories + Cooking + Drawing
His fav flower/plant: Kadupul Flowers + Jade vines ✮

Chapter 2: ‘~ A lot of Confused and Not a lot of Familiar faces. ~’
Summary:
Sorry for the long delay!
Get excited!! (The Dr.Stone in my brain is acting up 3)
Notes:
GIYUU’S RELATIONSHIPS WITH EVERYONE MENTIONED IN THIS FIC : (ooc)
Kagaya: Giyuu and Kagaya have what’s similar to a father-son bond. Every once and a while, Kagaya invites Giyuu over just to check up on how he’s doing. The first time they met, however, is after Giyuu’s Final Selection. Giyuu was scared of being reprimanded by Urokodaki (thinking Sabito’s death was indeed his own fault), so he ran away. Luckily, Amane and Kagaya found him.
Amane: After Giyuu basically cut contact with Urokodaki after Final Selection and became a Hashira, Amane always visited him at the Waterfall Estate to see how he’s doing. Their bond is similar to a mother-son bond.
Urokodaki: BEFORE FINAL SELECTION: Before Final Selection, Giyuu and his mentor were inseparable. Giyuu looked up to him, as Urokodaki saved him and treated all his injuries with careful touches. Giyuu always clung to Urokodaki every chance he got.
AFTER FINAL SELECTION: After Final Selection, Giyuu blamed Sabito’s death on himself. Fearing Urokodaki may be angry at him, he fled down the mountain and was found by the Ubuyashikis.Sabito: Sabito and Giyuu had a brother bond. Whenever Urokodaki wasn’t nearby, Giyuu would stick to Sabito’s side.
Tanjiro: Similar to Sabito’s, but not as much, Giyuu and Tanjiro have a brotherly bond. After his trial, Tanjiro was constantly sending Giyuu letters, mainly just thanking him. Every couple days, Tanjiro would invite Giyuu to get food, or just go on a walk together, accompanied by Nezuko.
Gyomei: Giyuu and Gyomei don’t talk that much, but sometimes Giyuu will join Gyomei in a prayer.
Sanemi: Their canon relationships/Sanemi thinks Giyuu thinks of himself as greater than others, which is the opposite.
Muichiro: Since Muichiro is too young to have his own estate, he regularly stays at the Waterfall Estate, liking the quietness, solitude, and nature surrounding it. Muichiro also likes to cloud watch with Giyuu, enjoying the tranquillity of the Water Hashira. Muichiro likes to look at Giyuu, finding his ocean eyes and mismatch haori beautiful. (NOT A SHIP!!!! IT’S PLATONIC!!!!). Muichiro only lets Giyuu call him ‘Mui’, but he forgets if anyone does anyway.
Kyojuro: Kyojuro often invites Giyuu to eat out at a restaurant, but Giyuu politely declines (not liking social activities much (me too bro, me too)). They have an alright relationship; Kyojuro thinks Giyuu is pretty (platonic), and Giyuu thinks Kyojuro is nice, and reminds him of a firework.
Obanai: Giyuu and Obanai don’t have much of a relationship together. While Obanai doesn’t despise of Giyuu like Sanemi does, he doesn’t necessarily like him either. Giyuu doesn’t mind Obanai. He likes Obanai’s heterochromia, finding it unique. Giyuu also likes snakes so that’s a plus!
Mitsuri: friendz :3 Mitsuri and Giyuu “hangout” regularly, sometimes even bringing Muichiro. They both like to cook & bake, so they mainly do that and share recipes. Though, they also go to parks, their favourite being one with Sakura blossom trees.
Uzui: Before Kanae died, Uzui and Giyuu would be considered friends. Giyuu sometimes visited his estate, and Uzui’s wives also love Giyuu’s company. Now, though, their friendship has drifted away.
Shinobu: They’ve known eachother for roughly 6 years, as Giyuu met her one time while he was at the Butterfly Estate with Kanae. Giyuu thinks of Shinobu as a friend, though he may get a bit agitated at her teasing. Shinobu also thinks of Giyuu was a friend, but only teases him to try to get him to open up, no malicious intent.

HEADCANON I FORGOT TO MENTION LAST CHAPTER:
★ Giyuu is TransMale (FTM) + AroAce ★
A Hashira Meeting has been called.
Which was quite strange.
The Pillars’ missions have been quite slow, so maybe that’s why? Something happened?
Giyuu was sitting on the engawa at the Waterfall Estate, sipping a chai as he observed the different animals calls from the endless void of the forest that concealed the building from the rest.
“KAAAWW! PILLAR MEETING! KAH! KAAW!” The familiar croak of Kanzaburou freed him from his zoned-out state as he watched the elder crow perch against its owner.
Giyuu sighed as he stood, placing the cup onto a wooden counter, as he began his way to the Master’s estate. Considering Kanzaburo just told him, and the bird’s rather… forgetful tendencies, Giyuu will either arrive late or barely on time. Atleast he won’t have to converse with any of his fellow Hashira…
As he picked up the pace, he glanced up to Kanzaburo, who was following at his own pace, weaving through the leaves despite his older age.
As Giyuu got to the Ubuyashiki mansion, he was slightly relived to see that Okayata-sama had not yet arrived. He stood to the side as he waited, but unfortunately his entrance was not disregarded as he saw Kocho beginning to walk over. It’s better than Shinazugawa at least.
“My, my, Tomioka-san!~ You were almost late!” She said in her usual sing-song tone, though there was a clear tone of sarcasm.
Giyuu was too tired to be social this morning, so he opted to stay quiet, gazing around the clearing. It seems that no one else had noticed his presence.
“Tomioka-san~ Don’t you know it’s rude to ignore someone? Tomioka-san~!” She called, clearly trying to get some sort of response as she gently poked his arm a couple times.
Just as she was about to say something else, but Hinaki and Nichika, two of the Master’s children, spoke before. “The Master of the Mansion had arrived.” Their monotone but familiar voices shut everyone up as everyone got to their designated positions, kneeling against the gravel.
Said two twins walked out, assisting with their father, Kagaya. His kind yet sick face was soft and as gentle as the flow of a creek, carrying his admirable smile. “Hello, my children. I’m glad to see all of you in great health.”
“We are just as glad to see you in good health, Oyakata-sama!” Rengoku’s cheerful, though loud, voice rang out.
Kagaya nodded in gratitude, continuing. “Thank you all for making it to this meeting at such short notice. As you may know, Missions have been on the low. That being said,-” The Hashira tensed as they waited for his next words. “-I am giving you a week-long break.”
HUUHHHH??
“Before there are any protests, I would also like to tell you that the Former Water Hashira, Urokodaki Sakonji, has offered to ‘train’ you all for said week.” The Master continued as Giyuu almost visibly cringed, not that anyone would notice though.
“But- Shouldn’t we be on standby if something happens?” Shinazugawa interjected.
“Do not worry, my child. We have lots of slayers on stand-by. And; the mountain is only half a day’s run for Hashira. If there did happen to be any issues, I will inform a crow immediately.” Kagaya calmly reassured.
The meeting had just concluded, and the Hashira were gathered in the clearing, discussing about the ‘training’.
Kagaya had asked Giyuu to stay behind, and was sitting next to him on the engawa (away from the others).
“..yes, Kagaya-sama..?”
“Giyuu, my child. I was just wondering if I could talk to you about the training.?”
“Okay.”
TIME SKIP – To meeting Urokodaki at the bottom of the Mountain.
The Pillars were lined up at the base of the mountain, and an old-looking-man with a tengu mask was stood in front of them.

Chapter Text
This must be hell.
As soon as the (very brief *literally just names*) introductions were over, they had to climb a mountain. First. A. Mountain. Normally it would be easy for all nine Hashira, but the air was surprisingly thin..
Not to even mention the traps!!
Most of them would’ve been caught if not for Gyomei sensing them.
Obviously, Giyuu had no problem avoiding the traps due to the training he went through when he was younger.
Currently, the Hashira were crowded in Urokodaki’s shack, small chatter amongst them when Urokodaki walked in. All heads and eyes swerved to him as he spoke, voice gruff; “Hello, Hashira. The rooms you'll be sleeping in are down the hall, about 4 people can fit in each. Go unpack whatever you bring.”
As they all got up, Urokodaki subtly tapped Giyuu's arm, signaling for him to stay. As the last Hashira, Muichiro, left the room
Giyuu stayed where he was, his posture stiff but calm, eyes following Urokodaki with cautious familiarity. The room was quiet now, the faint murmurs of the other Hashira fading into the background.
“Sit,” Urokodaki said simply, gesturing toward the corner where a low wooden bench waited. His voice was gruff, but not unkind. “We have much to discuss before the night falls.”
Giyuu hesitated, the old knot of tension in his chest tightening. Ten years had passed since he last saw this man. Ten years of silence, of carrying burdens alone, of surviving shadows most could not imagine. And yet… the familiar presence, the scent of aged wood and incense, the subtle discipline in Urokodaki’s movements—it was grounding. ((IN MY AU GIYUU AND SABITO WERE ELEVEN WHEN THEY DID FINAL SELECTION!!))
Slowly, he lowered himself onto the seat, hands folded neatly in his lap. His tengu-masked mentor sat across from him, studying him as one might study a rare and familiar creature long absent.
“You’ve grown,” Urokodaki said, his tone quiet but firm, as if testing Giyuu’s reaction. “Stronger than I expected; almost stronger than me.”
Giyuu only inclined his head slightly, expression neutral. Words weren’t necessary when it came to them.
“I brought you here,” Urokodaki continued, “because the Hashira need proper training, and because I knew you would be present. You’ve walked a difficult path alone, but the mountain will test you again. Not only your skills… but your body, your mind, memory, and your resolve.”
The reminder of the trials ahead made Giyuu tighten his fingers slightly, but he said nothing. His mind flickered to the snow, to the training sessions, the endless hours of warmth—but mainly, memories of him. Sabito. This training would be different, and yet familiar.
“Rest now,” Urokodaki said finally. “When the sun rises, the first trial begins. Move carefully, but remember—this mountain does not forgive hesitation.”
Giyuu let out a slow, controlled breath, feeling the weight of anticipation settle over him. He had faced death more than once, survived it, and grown stronger because of it. He could endure this too.
The room fell silent, save for the creaking of the floorboards as Giyuu rose and stepped toward the door leading to his room. Urokodaki watched him leave, mind already turning over the challenges that awaited at dawn.
