Chapter Text
Cold.
That's the first thing that Jasper registered as he came back to his senses. He could smell the dirt and the aftermath of rain, but other than that he couldn't smell much, not that he needed to for he knew he was still in the woods. The sound of chirping birds and leaves ruffling against each other as the wind made the branches dance was proof of it.
He fought to remember what had happened, but his mind just came back up blank, that wasn't good. He shifted to sit up, sucking in a sharp breath as fire explode across his left side, his hand flew to clutch his ribs as he stifled in a pained moan. It had been quite a long time since he last felt pain.
He felt a shiver run down his spine as the icy wind blew, an involuntary shudder wrecking through his body, he licked his bottom lip, feeling an unusual throb on it, he was confused when he felt the coppery taste.
Then it hit him.
Blood .
He touched his mouth and was mortified to see blood when he pulled his hand back.
He was bleeding. Bleeding .
And as he fell aware of how soaked he was he realized what the shuddering was.
Cold.
He was cold .
Panic hit him and he scrambled to get up, almost slipping on the mud as he did so. His clothes were clinging to him and his hair sticking to his face. He was soaking in both rain water and mud, leaves and grass sticking to his skin along with dirt and blood, his blood. What the hell was happening?
He felt something that made him stumble back into the pool of mud with a strangled gasp. His heartbeat.
Heartbeat .
His lungs constricted as he choked on air and clutched his chest. He had a heartbeat, how? Why? What? The air was growing thin and he couldn't focus. Breathe. Breathe. He needed to breathe. He couldn't panic now, not when he was clearly so defenseless, breathe, breathe.
He coughed as he sucked in a sharp breath, he brought his head between his knees, fingers clutching his shins as he fought to calm himself down, deep breaths, deep breaths.
"Deep breaths Jazz, that's it. In. Out. Deep breaths. You're alright."
Alice's words circled around his head, allowing him some semblance of calm, deep breaths, deep breaths…
It took him a while before he was able to feel his heartbeat going back to a more normal pace, heartbeat. Focus.
He sat there for a while longer before straightening back up, taking in a deep breath, he needed to go back to the house…
If only he knew how to get there, he didn't even know where he was to begin with, he didn't recognize these trees, that wasn't good, he took pride in knowing this forest like the palm of his hand, each tree, each rock, each nest, he knew everything.
So why didn't he recognize this? Was he even still in Forks?
It didn't matter, he needed to get out of here, nightime in a forest for a stranded human was just a recipe for death, the fog was growing thick too, he really needed to get out of here before he couldn't see his own feet.
Walking aimlessly around the forest wasn't smart either, he couldn't hear nor smell much, and he seriously hated how Esme had been right all along. He should take a phone with him when hunting, just in case, not that a phone would do any good in the middle of nowhere.
So lost in thought he was he didn't watch where he was going, next thing he knew something was snapping shut ferociously on his leg, for a moment he didn't react, and then a shout erupted from his throat as the explosive pain registered, bear trap.
He collapsed on the ground, biting his hand to muffle his pain.
“Damn it!”
His hands shook as he reached out, firmly gripping both sides of the infernal trap, he swallowed another shout as he pried the devil's mouth open, freeing his leg, he released the trap once again, moaning at the pulsating fire rippling across his ankle, damn-
Why was everything going so wrong today? He brought his trembling hands to inspect his ankle, willing himself to wiggle his toes, letting out a sigh of relief when he felt them move. Good, at least the stupid leg wasn't broken, he could work with that.
He forced himself to stand up, biting back any sounds that might want to make their way out. It took him a moment, but he managed it.
Wandering around with a potentially sprained ankle wasn't great, much less when each breath he took made his side burn, he felt nauseous, hungry, thirsty, cold, miserable. He had never wished to go home like he did right now.
And night was fastly approaching, one thing he quickly realized was that a human body, unlike his vampire one, had brought back a mortifying thing, he had had to pee, he had stared horrified through the whole unnatural ordeal. Such a thing being no longer familiar to him at all.
Still.
God his ankle was killing him, each step made the throb grow and grow with ravenous might, it made him want to lay down and never get back up, but he couldn't do that, he needed to keep walking, at least to keep himself warm, but even he knew that that was pointless, his clothes were wet, the air was humid, each time the trees moved raindrops would hit him, and the fog was horribly thick.
His thoughts came to an abrupt halt when he heard a twig snap somewhere infront him, but with this fog he couldn't see anything, shit, was it a bear? Would he end up getting mauled by a bear? Seriously? He could almost hear Emmett laughing at him.
A silhouette made him tense, but all his panic disappeared completely when a giant wolf was what emerged from the fog.
Light brown.
Seth.
The wolf seemed as surprised as he felt for it staggered, but just for a moment, because it was soon approaching, and Jasper had to resist the urge to growl, he was human, he was pretty sure growling would sound awfully pathetic right now.
He stiffened when the wolf came too close, his hairs standing on end and his stomach clenching as the wolf took a whiff of him, muzzle bumping his arm, of course he knew Seth was the most harmless of all the wolves.
That didn't mean he felt comfortable with having a wolf so close to his persona.
It felt like centuries before Seth was stepping back, giving him a quizzical look and tilting his head to the side in the best confused puppy fashion, Jasper couldn't blame him, he was just as confused with this situation.
“I was like this already when I woke up.” He felt the need to say. “Can you show me the way back to the Cullen's house? I've been walking for hours and I don't seem to be getting anywhere.” It was pathetic to ask that, but he would rather push down his pride than risk freezing to death or getting mauled by a bear.
Seth nodded, turning around and making a motion with his head for him to follow, Jasper didn't even hesitate to go after him, he hated that he kept tripping over just about anything, but he couldn't see shit, and his ankle was screaming, his ribs were burning, he doesn't even remember when was the last time he felt so miserable.
He was frustrated, hungry, thirsty, exhausted, cold, in pain, angry, humiliated, he just wanted to go home.
And at some point the fire on his ankle just became impossible to ignore, he ended up having to lean against a tree, fingers curling into fists as he took in a shuddering breath, damn it.
He was shaking, he was aware of that, but he couldn't help it, not when all he wanted was to claw at his ankle, his ribs, it was such a fire, such a ripple, he shut his eyes tightly, he doesn't remember physical pain being this bad.
Seth whined at his side, bumping his head against Jasper's leg before lowering himself on the ground, looking at his own back before looking at him.
No. No way. Jasper would not be seen riding on the back of a fricking wolf like some distressed child. This night had been humiliating enough.
But his damn knee, the second he took a step forward the second he was on the ground, or he would have been had Seth not moved within reach, allowing him to grab his fur to stop his fall.
Jasper bit back a groan.
“Fine, you win.” He said through gritted teeth, and considering Seth was kind of the same size of a horse he didn't have any troubles jumping on his back, fingers burying into the fur and jaw clenching as the movement made his ribs flare, his ankle, even his head had begun hurting at some point.
A whine cut through his internal battle to stiffle any pained sounds.
“‘m fine.” He assured, he didn't need anyone's worry, he was perfectly fine.
Or at least that's what he thought.
At some point he had ended up laying down, he felt funny, dizzy, nauseous, colder…
He didn't know for how long his mind swam around, but at some point he felt something cold touch his face, it took his entire strength to even open his eyes, someone was talking, their voice muddled, but even then he could feel a twist in his gut; worry.
He closed his eyes again.
~
Jasper had always had the habit to disappear for random intervals of time, sometimes he wouldn't be seen for days on end, Alice didn't worry, she knew he was somewhere in the forest, she could easily find him if she wanted, Jasper liked to be alone sometimes, mostly when his gift overwhelmed him and he needed a quiet place with no one around.
But he also just plainly liked to hang around the forest, walk around, just lay down on a field.
But he always warned Alice beforehand, so when he didn't come back after an hour of him having said he would go hunting and then for a walk she began worrying, even more so when she was unable to see him, Edward said he was fine, that he was most likely messing around with one of the wolves.
Ever since the near fight with the Volturi their relationship with the wolves had gotten considerably better, Jasper had grown an habit of racing or straight up wrestling whatever wolves were guarding the treaty line.
It put her on edge said hobby of his, she knew he could protect himself perfectly, and she knew that the wolves wouldn't harm him unprovoked, but she still felt a bit panicky over the idea of her husband playing around with creatures that could very much snap him like a twig if they so much desired to.
Still.
Night approached, and that feeling in her chest that something was terribly wrong grew, and then Jacob appeared in wolf form, telling Edward that Seth was on his way.
With Jasper. A very human Jasper.
Seth found him in their territory, he didn't seem to be in good shape.
Alice had wanted nothing more but to bolt and find Seth herself, but Carlisle had stopped her. All because Edward said he was bleeding, she wouldn't harm him!
“Alice, we know you won't harm him, not on purpose, but we don't know how you might react to his blood.” Edward said, she knew why he said it, 90% of the time, a vampire's soulmate was also their singer as human.
Just like Bella had been Edward's, or Emmett Rosalie's.
“I know.” She ended up saying instead, why was he human? What had happened?
And then she smelt it, the most exquisite scent she has ever felt, it sent shivers down her spine and made fire seize her throat, it was sweeter than anything she had ever smelt, almost intoxicating, like Heaven calling for her .
She felt a tight grip on her arm.
“Don't breathe. Remember who he is, what will happen if you do give in, is it truly worth it to lose the happiness you feel by his side over a fleeting moment of gratification?” Edward told Alice, remembering his own mantra when he had had to deal with Bella's scent, the only way he managed to never hurt her, was to desensitize from her scent.
She had smelt great, yes, but it was Bella , his wonderful angel, if he gave in he would destroy not only his only chance at happiness but he would also be destroying a wonderful person. Was it truly worth it losing the happiness he felt by her side over a fleeting moment of gratification?
Meanwhile, Alice stopped breathing, Edward was right, this was Jasper, she couldn't hurt him, she wouldn't hurt him, she refused to lose him over some fleeting moment of gratification, he was a thousand times more important than tasting that overwhelming smell, focus, she needed to focus.
And then Seth emerged from the trees, Carlisle left the porch immediately, quickly approaching the young wolf, Jasper was on his back, barely conscious.
"Jasper?" He called, touching his face with the back of his hand. He was cold, way too cold for a human, he was shaking and he could smell blood, a lot of it, but so far all he could see was a cut on his forehead.
Glazed eyes opened for the slightest of moments.
"Jasper? Can you hear me?" He called again, worry threatened to eat him, how did this happen? How was he human? What even happened for him to be like this? Had someone attacked him?
He got no answer, eyes closing again, his breathing was wrong too, his heartbeat too slow for comfort.
"Seth, can you lay down, please?" He requested, the young wolf did as told, Carlisle crouched down, patting Jasper's ribs, when didn't feel anything broken he let out a sigh of relief before grabbing his arm and carefully maneuvering him off the wolf, hoisting him up.
"He says Jasper might have injured his leg, he had difficulty walking." Edward informed, reading Seth's thoughts.
"Seth, thank you for bringing him." Carlisle said, giving the young wolf one last look, he needed to get Jasper inside quickly, he was freezing and Carlisle touching him was definitely doing him no good. "Alice, do you think you can control yourself enough for you to change his clothes?" He asked, he needed her to get Jasper in dry clothes as soon as possible, but if she couldn't do it.
Well, he was a doctor, there was barely anything he hasn't seen, but he wanted to spare Jasper some dignity, he might be over a century old, but he was still a 19 year old at heart, Carlisle was pretty sure Jasper wouldn't be able to look him in the eye for months if Carlisle was the one to change his clothes.
"I'm fine." Alice assured firmly, her eyes were pitch black but she looked fairly confident, Carlisle nodded. He took Jasper upstairs, leaving him in his and Alice's bedroom before waiting outside.
He took a deep breath to steady his nerves.
Esme was with Bella at the cottage, she had wanted to teach Bella how to make Renesmee's favorite soup, a special recipe from Esme's mother and grandmother.
Carlisle dreaded having to tell his wife what was happening, he didn't even know what was happening, Jasper was human, injured, unconscious, how?
"Is it true? Is he really human?" Rosalie's voice came from downstairs, she had gone hunting with Emmett earlier, she sounded definitely not happy, God, she would definitely not react well to this. He heard her make her way upstairs briskly, Emmett right behind her.
"Is it true?" Emmett questioned despite the fact that Carlisle knew they could hear the heartbeat as well as he could, the blood flowing, the smell of blood.
"It's, Seth found him in the wolves' territory."
"But how is he human? Why is he human?" Rosalie asked, and Carlisle knew she was asking why was Jasper human, of all of them Jasper was the one who has never seemed to be on bad terms with the idea of being a vampire, not even with his terrible control, in fact, he seemed to like being a vampire, he embraced it like nothing Carlisle has ever seen.
"I don't know, he was barely conscious when Seth brought him." Carlisle told, Rosalie's scowl lessened, worry flashing in her eyes.
"Is he alright?" And there it was, Rosalie might have quite the temper, but Carlisle knew his daughter to be a compassionate person, in her own way, and while her relationship with Jasper had been worse than her relationship with Edward when he first arrived they had grown closer throughout the years, Carlisle wasn't quite sure of the reason, but Jasper and Rosalie had grown closer than anyone had first expected.
So much Rosalie had even gotten into a fight with a teacher in Alaska after this one had made a comment about Jasper being mentally challenged, all because he wouldn't stop spacing out, he was always way too stiff, refused to participate in class, and his accent at the time had also been extremely thick, which, apparently, made it difficult for the teacher to understand him.
Which made absolutely no sense, everyone could understand him perfectly, turns out he wasn't the only one that teacher had had something against, she had also been bullying an Irish girl from another grade, also because of her accent, the teacher had been fired for discrimination, but after that Jasper's accent had almost completely disappeared within weeks.
It was barely perceived at this point in life, only when he was upset or emotional would his accent slip, it sometimes angered Carlisle, to remember the why of that change.
The sudden gasp from inside the room caught his attention and alarm seized him.
"Alice? Are you okay?" He asked, was she struggling?
"Carlisle." Her horrified near panicked voice was all he needed to barge into the room. She had already changed his clothes, but one of his arms was yet to be pulled into the remaining sleeve.
But what caught his immediate attention was the black co-web spread across his side. Veins. But why black? He quickly made his way around the bed, Alice left Jasper's side, giving Carlisle her spot so he could inspect Jasper.
He sat on the bed, touching Jasper's side, there were thousands of ravenous scars, all similar to the ones on his forearms, neck, jawline and eyebrow. A few from gunshots, and still, none of that mattered.
Not when Carlisle had absolutely no idea what was this black co-web, they were veins, he could very much tell so, but black? That wasn't normal, but neither was a vampire turning human.
"Did he have them anywhere else?" He asked, touching the giant bruise on the other side of Jasper's ribs, he patted around again, just to be sure there weren't any broken ribs, there weren't, but he wouldn't be sure until Jasper woke up, hopefully, it was nothing but bruised ribs.
His breathing wasn't strained, that was a good sign.
"No. Why does he have that? Is he-"
"I don't know." Carlisle cut off, not wanting her to finish that sentence, he didn't know what was happening, why, how, he really wished Jasper would wake up.
"Holy shit." Emmett exclaimed as he peeked inside from the doorway.
"Emmett, can you bring me the first aid kit from my studio?" He requested as his attention fell on the cut on Jasper's forehead, he wasn't bleeding anymore, but he would definitely need stitches.
"On it." Emmett disappeared, leaving only Rosalie hanging by the door.
"Alice, how did you see his leg?" He asked, mentally thankful she had chosen to put Jasper in sweatpants even though he has never seen Jasper wearing sweatpants before.
"It's the left one, I think… I think he stepped on a bear trap." That alarmed Carlisle, he quickly pulled the hem of the pants up, his ankle did look swollen, it wasn't broken, but skin had been torn, that wasn't good, Jasper was born in 1844 and turned in 1863.
Which meant he had no tetanus shot, nor any shot for that matter. At this rate…
"Rosalie, can you bring the car to the front? Emmett, forget the first aid kit, I'm taking him to the hospital."
"You are taking him to a hospital looking like that? He's gonna become a lab rat." Rosalie told briskly.
"He needs a tetanus shot that I cannot give him. I don't know how human he is right now, but I can't risk it either and do nothing."
"That won't matter if the humans find something amiss. You think those black veins are there for decoration? He's a vampire turned human. Do you seriously think his body is 100% human even though he smells and looks like one?"
Carlisle clenched his jaw at Rosalie's words, she was right, he couldn't take Jasper to a hospital, those black veins were definitely a sign that something was not normal no matter how human he smelt or felt.
But what was he supposed to do? He couldn't ignore the fact that his son had stepped on a possibly rusty bear trap.
"I will go get it." Edward said, appearing at the door. "The nurses know me, it will be easy."
"... Fine, be careful." Carlisle ended up conceding with a sigh, God he had never felt as frustrated as he did now.
Once Edward left he went back to checking Jasper's ankle before going up and checking his head for any injury he might have missed, he didn't find any bumps, but he did find another wound on the left side of his head.
"I got it." Emmett said, appearing with the first aid kit.
Carlisle took it.
~
"How is he human?" Esme asked as she stared at Jasper's sleeping/unconscious form on the bed, Alice was sitting beside him wiping the blood off his face.
She could hear the heartbeat, the blood rushing through his veins, it was different from a human's regular heartbeat and blood flow, but it was there.
He even had a bit of color on him.
And his hair was no longer that familiar golden shade but a more lighter tone… kind of like a softer blond…
She could even smell his blood.
Human.
When Carlisle called her to tell her that she should come home she hadn't expected it to be because of this.
Jasper was human.
And those injuries… if one ignored his leg it was clear someone had attacked him. How did he even end up in the wolves' territory? She knew he liked to explore around, but he would never cross the treaty line, he was smarter than that.
So why was he human? Why was he in the wolves' territory? It didn't make any sense.
"I don't know, he was barely conscious when Seth brought him." Carlisle said, he was still worried about Jasper's leg, about why he was human. Did someone turn him? What if the Volturi found out? He wasn't a regular human.
He would be slaughtered for knowing too much.
~
Jasper woke up to a world of soreness and discomfort, he felt hot, tingly, wrong, and there was something cold and hard pressing against his side.
He feels like a cloud's been stuffed in his head and there's something… warm in the air. It feels familiar against his skin but he can't quite remember what it was.
"Jazz?" Alice's voice feels almost clogged and he feels awfully tired, he feels the cold pressure at his side shift and he forces himself to open his eyes.
Alice is looming over him, she looks worried, her onyx eyes making him frown. Her hand comes to rest on his cheek and while the touch is familiar the coldness that comes with it isn't.
That's when he realizes something.
He can't feel her.
He snatches her arm, startling her in the act, and he can't feel her surprise, he can't feel anything at all, he can feel her warmth, but he can't actually feel what she's feeling and that, why can't he feel her? That shouldn't be possible, he's always felt her, their emotions have always been intertwined, coexisting in harmony, feeling her was as easy as just existing.
So why can't he feel her?!
"Hey, hey, it's alright, you are alright." Her voice is soothing as she touches his chest, keeping him from getting up, but he can't feel her comfort. Why can't he feel her? Why? He's supposed to be able to feel her. He's always felt her, so why can't he feel now? "Jazz, hey, look at me." Alice asks, grabbing his face, she leans close to him, close enough their noses bump, her thumbs stroking his cheeks. "Just breathe, in, out, that's it."
Her voice is lulling, the air around her is warm, and while he can't tell anything from it, it's familiar, the touch is cold, yet familiar, while the world feels dull, it's pretty much familiar.
"Better?" Comes Alice's soft voice.
‘'I'm fine." He concedes after a moment, Alice nods, she leans closer to him, getting rid of the distance between them to catch his lips into a kiss, her lips are like ice but oh so familiarly soft.
He can't help but kiss her back.
Meanwhile, Alice had promised herself to not touch Jasper unless it was strictly necessary, but then he started to panic, and she couldn't just let it become a full blown on panic attack, so she calmed him down, maybe got closer than she should have, but God, he smelt so wonderful, and kissing him, he felt so warm, that cut on his bottom lip.
She could taste the ghost of his blood, it was sweet, like Heaven singing for her, a leash of fire seizing her throat, it was the most mouthwatering and celestial thing in the entire world.
Her fingers curled around his wrists, she could feel his pulse beneath her grip, the warmth of his skin and softness of his flesh.
"Alice." Carlisle's sudden voice pulled her out of her trance, she bit back a growl as she pulled back, anger curling in her chest as she glared at him hatefully. Fingers tightening their hold on Jasper's wrists.
But just as quick she was catching herself, her grip on his wrists disappearing.
"Can you please go wait outside?" Carlisle requested, he kept his tone neutral as he spoke, but he made sure to give his daughter a look, reminding her that what she was feeling right now was nothing but her instincts talking, Jasper was not her prey.
He was her husband, and it would destroy her if she were to give in and hurt him. He didn't even know what could happen if he was bitten, but the point still stood, he couldn't allow Alice to harm him.
She stared at him for a moment longer before getting up, she walked right past him with an annoyed look, he turned towards the hallway.
"I'm doing this for your own good." He felt the need to voice out in a whisper. Alice stopped for a moment.
"I know."
And with that she was gone.
Carlisle sighed before stepping into the room, Jasper was already sitting up with a grimace.
He came over to sit at the edge of the bed, he looked less pale than last night, but the dark circles under his eyes were terrible, his eyes though, they were… not normal.
The left one was a soft shade of blue, almost light grey, the right one though, that one was darker than any shade of black Carlisle has ever seen.
They didn't look like any eye color he had ever seen on any human before.
Still. Focus, his eye color was the last of his worries right now.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"I’m fine."
"Does it hurt breathing?" He questioned, still worried over that bruise on his ribs.
"A little."
"May I touch you?" A short nod was his answer.
Carlisle was careful as he touched the area around his ribs again. It still didn't felt as if he had broken ribs, but the skin felt tender under his touch.
"Does this hurt?" He asked as he touched the bruising. There was a purplish edge into the blackness so there were hopes that it was bruising rather than broken ribs, but he still wanted to make sure.
"Not much."
"I don't think there's broken ribs, just bruising, but if you start feeling worse I need you to tell me right away, okay?"
Jasper nodded.
"How's your head? Does it hurt? Are you feeling nauseous?"
"My head aches a bit, but I'm fine, I don't have a concussion if that's what you're worried about, trust me, I've got them before, I know how they feel."
Carlisle allowed himself to relax at that, good, no broken ribs, no concussion, things were looking better.
"How the hell are you human?" Rosalie appeared by the door. An edge of anger slipped into her voice as she said that. Emmett was right behind her, and so were Esme and Edward and Bella.
Jasper felt like an animal in an exhibit zoo.
He never felt comfortable when he was put in the spotlight, not being able to tell their emotions with the same clarity as before didn't help his anxiety.
He hated this.
Even more so because Rosalie looked pissed, as if this somehow was his fault. He knew that of them all she was the one who most disliked her vampire nature and while she no longer held her hatred against him like in the past it still bothered him to have her looking so upset because of him.
It wasn't as if he had asked for this.
In fact, this state left him feeling more out of control than he had ever felt, because he couldn't feel their emotions, couldn't smell if there was an incoming threat, hell, he had needed Seth to bring him back home!
"Can vampires turn back into humans?" Bella found herself asking, but for the looks on everyone's face (more like Rosalie's), it was clear that her question was beyond stupid.
"No, as far as I know there's no precedent of a vampire ever becoming human. That's just not possible." Carlisle said, he had called Eleazar earlier and given him hypothetical questions, while he trusted his friend, right now he was feeling way too paranoid to let any vampire out of the family know about Jasper.
Eleazar had come with nothing.
"How did this happen?" Edward questioned, of all of them it sounded almost ironic that the one with the most difficulties to stand human blood had become human himself.
"I don't know…" Jasper muttered, frowning as he felt… something not quite right about his body, something wasn't right, but he couldn't tell what, though he guessed a lot wouldn't be right in a body that has been frozen and practically dead for over a century.
"What's the last thing you remember?" Carlisle questioned. Jasper frowned.
"... I don't know, I know I went for a walk, but I can't remember the walk, or where I went… I don't remember going anywhere near the treaty line either, I just…" He trailed off, he could smell something… sweet, salted, but extremely confusing, it made a shiver run down his spine.
A stab of pain flashed across his skull and he flinched.
Silver eyes.
Acid.
Fire.
Silver dripping from a glistening row of sharp teeth, canines abnormally elongated, sharp.
Fingers of steel holding his wrists, heaviness sitting on his chest, cloud stuffing his head, an echo of a voice, foreign lips pressing against his own, putrid thickness filling his mouth, choking on his throat.
Fire.
"Jasper?"
He almost jumped out of his skin at the sudden hand on his shoulder, Carlisle gave him a concerned look.
"There was a vampire with silver eyes." He muttered, his throat burnt, but it also felt horribly dry, heat beneath his skin, his bones ached, his fingernails, his head, even his mouth ached.
"A vampire with silver eyes?" Carlisle repeated, why did it felt like he had heard that before?
"Why would a vampire have silver eyes?" Esme wondered out loud.
"Because it feeds off venom." Jasper didn't even know where did that come from, but the more he thought about it the more sense it made, the twist in the air made him nauseous.
"Dude, how hard did you hit your head?" Emmett asked, what the hell was Jasper talking about? He did know what a vampire was, right? He was literally the second oldest vampire in the entire family.
"She bit me." Jasper told, tracing the fresh scar on his bicep, it shouldn't have healed, it should be burning or bleeding, not healed. "I couldn't move, it felt like something was sitting on my chest, like a cloud was stuffed in my head, but I saw it…"
"What did you see?"
"She was drinking my venom."
