Work Text:

It has always been the same routine.

Wake up, attend meetings, tend to the bank, deal with any rowdy misbehaving clients, the usual. But for someone who just so happens to be the 11th Fatui Harbinger, to him, it seems to all just merge into one big blur.

Sure, he gets to fight with people that could potentially give him a good challenge, but unfortunately for him, it doesn’t seem to be something that he gets to encounter and enjoy on a daily basis. It feels like he’s missing something.

He’s missing the spark of adventure, and facing powerful adversaries that could get his heart going.

One day, once I can guarantee my family’s security and well-being, I’ll be able to leave this whole thing behind and go out for more thrill-seeking adventures.

Perhaps I could also attempt to find Master once the perfect opportunity comes to do so.

He sighs, wondering if he’ll ever get to have the fight of a lifetime. Lately, he’s been in a bad mood. Problems with his vision perhaps? He can’t really be sure until he’s able to confirm it a hundred percent.

Fortunately, the day has come where he should be able to take a bit of a break from his duties, even if it’s just a little bit: Her Majesty the Tsaritsa herself had approved for him to take a little vacation.

Now that I have time to myself, what should I do?

He ponders. He still has to tend to duties related to the bank, but he’s otherwise free to spend it as he pleases.

He could go and look for his former teacher Skirk, but that doesn’t exactly seem plausible at the moment, with little information to track her down with.

“Maybe I can reach out to Lumine and ask her for a spar?” He mutters to himself out loud. The last thing he heard from her was news relating to Sumeru and the Dendro Archon. She also apparently had a particularly bad run in with The Doctor, but things turned out fine for now.

He doesn’t want to admit it out loud to anyone, but he can’t help but feel worried for her.

His opinion of her really grew quite a lot. Sure, the first time they met ended on quite a sour note, with him trying to kill her for seemingly stealing the Gnosis ahead of him, but he truly found her captivating, conflicts aside. The fact that she was able to put up a good fight against a Fatui Harbinger already gave him something to look forward to. The thrill of adventure that he had been trying to find all this time.

So, of course once the dust in Liyue had settled, the first thing he did in his letter to Teucer and his siblings back in Snezhnaya, was to talk about and praise Lumine in great detail.

With Teucer then abruptly going all the way to his workplace to see him with Lumine and Paimon babysitting in tow, all he could think of was how his family could get along really well with the famed Traveler from afar and-

He blinked abruptly. What was he supposed to do again?

Ah yes, that’s right, things to do throughout his vacation. He really shouldn’t be daydreaming too often, lest he’d end up getting distracted, both on and off work.

But where to go? Liyue’s obviously not an option, he’s not in the mood for Mondstadt, he’s already been to Inazuma not too long ago for work-related business, and Sumeru’s just recovering from the influence of the Scholars with the Dendro Archon back in control.

So that currently leaves two options, his homeland aside: Fontaine or Natlan.

Given that The Captain’s currently stationed at Natlan, he’d rather stay away from things related to work for now, which leaves Fontaine as his vacation spot of choice.

Not a bad choice really, considering that Fontaine is home to the Champion Duelists. The best duelists they have to offer can really give him quite the fight, and that’s something he really needs at the moment. He could take anything just to get his mind off his bad mood.

He could also keep an eye out for any information relating to Skirk’s whereabouts while he’s there too. Two birds with one stone as they say.

Hopefully he runs into Lumine in the process as well. Fontaine is supposed to be her next stop anyways, and it has been quite a while since they’ve run into one another.

And so, he starts preparing his things for a trip to the Nation of Hydro, wondering where his short vacation would lead him.

Surely, things would go smoothly, right?

Notes:

This was written as a one shot to get myself back into writing fanfics again after so long so I do apologize for any possible inconsistencies, but I might make another chapter if there's enough interest!
