Chapter Text

“Dear, you’re already 13. Go fight the Cryo Regisvine.” Your mother smiled, eyes glittering with malice. “If such a simple feat cannot be achieved at this age, you might as well as not come home.” You tensed, but what choice did you have? You packed along your weapons, wielding no visions, and some food and a fire starting kit.

You headed to the adventurer’s guild to locate a Cryo Regisvine, and before long, you were facing the giant ice flower, you plunged at it, before running around and dodging its attacks while dealing some damage. However, it was clear who was winning. Your stamina had run out, and the giant flower had started spinning around with its cryo beam.

Knowing you couldn’t defeat it, you…ran. You dashed out of the cave and ran and ran. Until you reached the Statue of Seven in Windrise. You bowed your head before it and it almost immediately healed you. Now that you were healed, you wondered what to do. You certainly couldn’t go back home. Walking around the giant tree, collecting a few sticks that were dry and hard, starting a fire.

Sitting down beside the fire, the light that illuminated your surroundings as the sun drooped, you winced. It hurt when you moved your left arm. Shedding the coat that did little to block the cold, you checked your arm. In your haste to build a fire before the sun’s last light was eaten by the night, you hadn’t noticed that your forearm was encased in cryo.

As the rest of your body warmed up, the biting cold just became more apparent. As time passed by, the stinging cold just became numb. You tried your best to melt the ice with your small fire, but after the moon had risen, at least half of it was still left. Your eyes strained to see the ice that clang stubbornly to your skin.

Finally, just as the fire died out, the last shard slipped off your skin. Your skin was red and sore underneath the frozen cast, but you were okay. Now, pulling the coat up as a makeshift blanket, you curled up next to the giant tree, closing your eyes to try to sleep.

The next morning, you woke up to the crisp scent of…apples? And when you looked up, you saw a boy dressed in green munching on an apple, his braids swinging in the wind. “Ah, you’re awake! Want an apple?” He smiled at you, extending the sweet fruit to you. Hesitantly, you took the apple. Well, what’s the worst that could happen? Now, there was no way that you could know that that small act would turn your life completely upside down.

“Venti! How many times have I told you not to drink so much?” You furrowed your brows, pouting, trying your best to seem scary. The bard merely laughed sheepishly, and raised his hands into the air. “D-dear, I can explain…”. You crossed your arms. “I literally had to drag you out from Angel’s Share!” Venti racked his brains for an excuse. “Erm… well… I can give you one reason…” you crossed your arms, waiting for the explanation. “You’re cute when you’re angry~”. He blurted out.

“I-you-wha?” Your face heated up. The bard took the chance to escape from your wrath, darting away. Quickly recovering, embarrassment morphing into rage, you dashed after him, screaming bloody murder.  When you finally caught up with the sneaky bard, you were quite out of breath. What in Celestia made him think of flying up to the roof???

Your electro vision flickered to life, sending sparks flying into the air as your eyes glowed. (Probably giving Venti flashbacks of Raiden lol.) You glared at his silhouette, leaping next to him, holding him in a headlock. “Mmph!” He yelped in shock. You clenched your fist, angry smile on your face. “Any last words?” You asked sweetly.

“You’ve really changed since I first met you under that tree, huh?” He smiled. “Yeah…” you dropped the headlock, scooting closer to him. Venti breathed a sigh of relief when you let him go. “hoWEVER!” You added. “Please don’t randomly go drinking and get drunk again.” Venti shrugged. “No promises~ Ehe~”. Sighing at his carefree attitude, you stood up, tugging him along with you.

“Every time you go drinking, you annoy me when you’re drunk and you annoy me with your hangover.” You muttered with a roll of your eyes. You were smiling, however. “Come on, let’s head home now.” You rented an apartment in Monstadt City, the topmost floor, in fact. Venti stood up and stretched, before making a wind current carry the two of you back inside.

After the two of you had showered, you headed to the kitchen to brew a hangover remedy that Venti would definitely be needing the next day. As you were stirring the pot, your eyes were suddenly covered by a pair of hands. A chirpy voice asked playfully, “Guess who~” sighing at his childish antics with a smile on your face, you replied. “Venti.” “Ehe~” he removed his hands from your face and you just had enough time to cover the lid of the pot before getting pulled to the sofa.

‘Clingy’ is too mild a word to describe a drunk Venti. He stuck onto you like glue. So as he clung onto you as a koala, you sighed and gently pet him on the back, like soothing a baby to get them to sleep. Catching sight of the photos on the table beside you, you mumbled, “Huh, come think of it, we’ve been traveling together for…” “5 years, 8 months and 4 days.” His sleepy voice mumbled, voice muffled by your neck.

“Wow…that’s a long time isn’t it?” You asked, fingers playing with his hair. “Mhm…” came the slurred response. The two of you descended into silence, as you continued contemplating. “That means I’ve been free for 5 years now…” you spoke to yourself. The bard raised his head sleepily at that. “Y-you’re not going to leave me to go back home…” a slightly panicked expression flashed across his features. “Right..?”

You quickly wrapped him in a hug, replying, “Of course not! I would never leave you, Venti. You’re my home. My Hearth.” He wrapped his arms around you as well, “My Cecilia flower.”

The next day…

“VENTI, YOU NEED TO DRINK IT!” You chased after him, the hangover remedy in your hands. “Noooooo! It smells foul!” He cried, running away from you.

Chapter Text

You aren’t quite sure when it started. Recently, you’ve just had this unshakable feeling. It was like a monster that fed on your negative emotions. It told you over and over, ‘You are useless. Worthless. No one will ever love you.’ And at first, you paid it no heed, dismissing it. However, it was true that after its appearance, minor details you typically wouldn’t even notice stood out to you.

Like when you were attending classes in the Akademiya, the teacher praised Layla and Collei’s work, but not yours. The three of you were good friends, and being the only one in the group ate at you. Usually you wouldn’t even notice, and just congratulate the other two, but this time, the monster crawled around your head and whispered to you that you weren’t good enough to be friends with them.

Its words sank into your brain and bones, like an annoying ear worm you couldn’t get rid of. You shook it off, but you couldn’t deny how your smile didn’t quite reach your eyes for the whole day. And the next day too,  and the next. This went on for so long that you felt bad for wallowing in self pity while everyone else was working hard. So, you decided that the monster wouldn’t wake if you turned your attention away from yourself.

Kaveh had also noticed the changes. One day, he wondered, just when had he stopped having to open his mouth to ask you for something? And just how much attention must you’ve been paying him for you to know what he needed before he himself knew it? And…just how much energy were you expending on yourself, with all that energy on him.

The next few days, he kept a close eye on you. By the end of the day, he marveled at how many signs he hadn’t noticed. How could he have been so blind? He was worried. Doing what you did might be good for him, but how in Celestia could it be good for you? He pondered. And pondered. And went to consult his friends, Tignari, Cyno and Alhaitham.

Unfortunately for Kaveh, Alhaitham was nonchalant about his worry, and Cyno kept cracking jokes like ‘trouble in paradise.’ What did that even mean? (Okay, but fr idk. I heard it somewhere but nvr found out what it meant.) Tignari, who was arguably the most sane in their group, suggested that perhaps you were just feeling useless maybe because of something similar to Layla’s condition. (Okay idk abt her condition too but I did mizuki anecdote sooo). Kaveh took that into consideration, musing about it. Thanking his friends for the ‘help’, he left to find you.

You were sorting through some paperwork when a slightly out of breath Kaveh entered the room. Startled, you searched his expression. “Do you want coffee? Or the blueprints next door?” You asked, unease rising. This was the first time in a long while that you couldn’t decipher what he wanted. Instead, he walked to you silently, stormy expression on his face.

"You haven't been taking care of yourself. Have you?" He asked. You froze. How the-

Taking your silence as an answer, he sighed, and pulled you close to him. You felt the tears leak from your eyes, soaking his shoulder as you sobbed, confessing how you felt that you were useless, a deadweight. As you spilled your fears and secrets to the man before you, you were half worried that he might see you as a burden and leave you. However, his gaze was filled with nothing but warmth.

"Shh...It's okay..." He murmured against your ear as he gently and rhythmically pet your hair. The steady rhythm of his hands was like a lullaby to you. Your eyelids drooped. When was the last time you had slept? Curling into his warmth, you clung onto him like the world would end if you let go. You vaguely heard him twisting the doorknob to your room and laying you down on your bed.

But when the warmth from his body started to seep away, you whined and pressed your head harder into his shoulder, stubbornly clinging to his arm. Kaveh's crimson irises softened as carried you to the sofa, settling down, you hanging from his arm. As soon as he had settled down comfortably on the couch, you shifted to maximise the warmth, and nuzzled his arm. Sleepily, you mumbled to Kaveh, your pupils blurry and unfocused.

"Hey...Ka...Kaveh...?" You mumbled, the sound muffled by his shoulder. "Hmm?" He hummed. "Am...am...I a...burden...to you...?" You asked. Kaveh immediately wrapped you up in his arms, reassuring you that you were not a burden. Your sleepy self seemed satisfied by his response, and drifted back into sleep, your hold on him slightly relaxing. Kaveh sighed when you fell asleep again. Gently petting your head, he pressed a kiss to your forehead and muttered, "Love, you have no idea how much you mean to me." He smiled, watching your serene expression. "I just wonder when you'll see your own importance."

Chapter Text

“Hmm? Oh, it’s you again.” You lowered your weapon. Around you and the white haired boy were the steaming carcasses of pyro slimes that had just been defeated. “Ahahaha..” the white haired boy replied sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. “I was just getting carrots…”

You raised an eyebrow. “You have a vision, so you’re definitely not incapable of fighting. So, why didn’t you fight back?” You asked him, tilting your head in confusion. “…Well…I broke my sword two days ago while fighting a ruin guard, and it’s still under repair… and I’m out of mora, thanks to some treasure hoarders, so I planned to get some veggies and fruits to sell them…” he explained.

You sweat dropped. That seriously was some luck! "What's your name?" You asked, placing an arm on your hip. "Oh-It's Bennett!" He replied, not evenly slightly questioning your question. You sighed. "Bennett...was it?" He nodded. "While your sword is being repaired, please refrain from fighting any enemies. Okay?" You told him steely. Bennett flinched under your harsh gaze, eyes darting around frantically. "Y-yes ma'am..."

Looking at his flustered expression, a teasing smile appeared on your lips. "After all, I may not be there to save you the next time you get into trouble~". And before he could snap out of his shock and ask for your name, you had already darted off, probably to clear another hillichurl camp.

After a while, Bennett snapped out of his daze, realising that he probably looked dumb staring into the distance with his gloved hand outstretched, mouth open and gaping like a fish. "She's gone? Just my luck..." resigned to his fate (or bad luck), Bennett began trudging back into the city. "At least I have these carrots..." He reached into his pocket, and it was as if he had given a cue.

As soon as the carrots were in his hand, a crack sounded in the air and a tree branch hanging overhead crushed the carrots, though thankfully, he himself was unscarred. Bennett bit his lip, hard, before he forced a strained smile on his face. "Ahahaha! That's fine!" he said, though the sheen on his eyes said otherwise.

When he finally reached the city, and headed to his house, another surprise waited for him. "Wha- did I forget to lock the door? Silly me..." He joked, trying to squash his unease. Taking a shaky breath, he twisted open the door, to see...

A body lying on the floor, a crimson river staining the floorboards. And pinned against the floor not far away, gasping and struggling for breath, an iron tipped boot firmly, no, more than firmly, planted on his ribcage was...a treasure hoarder. Bennett hesitantly looked up from the struggling man, only to be met with...your cold gaze.

"Oh, hi, Bennett." You addressed him cooly, like you weren't in his house with a person you killed and another that was probably going to die soon. He should've been scared, angry, but instead, he thought that you looked really cool as you handled the two armed treasure hoarders with ease. "W-why are you in my house?" Bennett swallowed.

"Hmm? Oh, I wanted to drop off some mora for you. Seemed like you needed it. But these guys," You pointed to the treasure hoarders, "Had different ideas. Freaking idiots came in with guns and all. Brandishing their pathetic toys at me. " You explained to Bennett, casually studying your fingernails as you applied more pressure on the poor treasure hoarder's rib, causing him to scream in agony. Oops. you probably broke one of his delicate ribs by accident.

Turning to Bennett, you asked him, "What do you want to do with these guys?" You cocked your head at the worthless existences under you. Literally. "I'm sure they won't do this again...let's let this one go!" Bennett replied, more than willingly to believe in the good of a person. A smile tugged at your lips. So naive. But cute. You eased your foot off the treasure hoarder's ribcage, and he rolled away weakly, coughing out blood. "Y-you'll regre-" He was silenced by a sharp swipe from you.

"Listen here. The only reason you're still breathing is thanks to him. if I see your ugly, worthless, pathetic face ever again." You pressed your hunting knife to his throat, the implication clear. "Scram!" You  told him, and he hastily darted away, not taking anymore chances.  you turned around to look at Bennett, bracing for looks of fear or disgust. Instead, he was looking at you with...awe?

"Whoaaa! That-you-it was so cool! You just went bam and kicked their butts!" He gushed, eyes sparkling. Surprise flickered through you for a moment. "Uhh...Thanks?" You replied awkwardly, nudging the dead body with your gleaming boot. "Don't worry about this...I'll take care of it..." you mumbled, your way of apologising to him for the inconvenience you caused.

"Really? Thank you!" he looked at you with the most earnest eyes and widest smile. It was so infectious that even you had to smile slightly. "Oh yeah, I meant to get your name, but I was too slow earlier.." He scratched his head sheepishly, looking at you with hopeful eyes. How could you say no?

Later, you offered for him to stay over at your place, seeing that his place was obviously compromised. "W-what? I could never! What if I spread my bad luck to your place?" The last part was spoken softly, voice quiet and seeping with guilt. Your gaze softened. At that moment, you just knew that you should give him a hug. You reached for him, wrapping your arms around him.

Surprisingly, he didn't recoil from the blood on your clothes, and sank into your embrace. Suddenly, you registered your right shoulder becoming moist. Was he...crying? Did you do something wrong? Hesitantly, you decided that you must have messed something up, and slowly retrieved your arms, but they were unwilling to leave the poor kitten who was probably breaking down right now.

Much to your surprise, you felt resistance. He was pulling you back. Your hand slowly reached up to his head, giving him ample time to push it away if he so wished. When he made no move to push it away, you placed it on his head, gently running your fingers through his surprisingly silky hair. You stroked his head the way you would treat a kitten, as you had never done so to another human.

As you ran your hand rhythmically through his hair, his sobs slowly started to die down. encouraged, you began to softly sing to him. After awhile, the noises of crying and sniffling were gone, and Bennett stood up and wiped his face. "Sorry, I must seem really pathetic now, huh?" He placed that familiar strained smile on his face.

"You're not pathetic." You replied. You reached out for his face and gently wiped a tear that had escaped. "And I don't mind your luck. But if it bothers you so, we could get you a...lucky charm or a talisman." Bennett took awhile to process your words. "Did you just say...we...?"He blinked slowly. You smiled at him innocently.

He laughed. A real, genuine laugh. And it was like drinking warm soup on a cold winter day. It warmed you to the core, and the warmth seeped into your bones, wiping away the cold. His eyes twinkled when he looked at you straight in the eye and said,

"You're my Lucky Charm."

Chapter Text

The last pyro slime exploded in a burst as Kinich's claymore cut through it, slicing it cleanly. Standing up and shaking off the sticky remnants of the slime, Kinich turned his attention to the barrel that had been placed next to a tent. Kinich hoped that it was mora. He went up to the box and opened it, Ajaw trailing behind him.

"What..?" Kinich's brows furrowed in confusion. A...Child? You sat there, trembling, as your 'safe haven' was destroyed. You heard the telltale signs of footsteps approaching before light flooded in. A blue haired male stared at you in confusion. Your mismatched eyes stared back. In fear. A strange creature was floating next to him, but that was the least of your concerns right now.

The stranger stretched out a hand, reaching for you to take you away, probably to whisk you to some unknown place or to hurt you like them- without thinking, you instinctively shrank back, lashing out to scratch the stranger's hand. A soft hiss of pain was heard, before a soft voice told you, "It's okay, I won't hurt you." And for once, Ajaw was silent, speechless in this situation. Hearing the soft, comforting words relaxed you, and seeing that the stranger had no intent to harm you, you crawled towards the hand. Towards that soothing voice.

The stranger gently and slowly lifted you up, holding you carefully in your arms. You hadn't been handled with such care in...forever. Your parents had taken one look at your eyes and...Comforted by the warmth and kindness, you curled up next to the stranger, eyelids drooping as you let down you guard for the first time in a while now. The last thing you heard before sleep whisked you away was, "I'll take care of you, Little one. My name's Kinich."

Something was wrong. Kinich knew that as soon as he saw that cornered look in your eyes. The way you went feral when he reached for you. The fact that you were basically a skeleton with a layer of skin. How your body was weak and littered with cuts and burns. How your clothes were covered in a dark red liquid. As he carried you, he shot a look at Ajaw that was harsh enough to keep him quiet. Ajaw didn't argue. He was staring at you in...interest?

Watching you chest rise and fall weakly, ribcage easily identifiable, Kinich's traitorous mind wandered back to when he was a kid...No. He told himself firmly. That's in the past. He can't hurt me now. But those days had left a lasting impression on him. He knew the telltale signs of mistreatment now. And it was obvious that your injuries were not natural.

The two of them travelled back to their place, and for the first time since Kinicb had met Ajaw, he was silent the whole trip. When they arrived home, and Kinich left you to sleep on the couch with a blanket draped over your frail body, Ajaw asked Kinich as quietly as he could, “So are you adopting her?” Ajaw must’ve also come to the same conclusion about your physical and mental state. Kinich sighed. “Yes.” Ajaw flashed a shocked look that seemed to ask Kinich 'you're not even going to check with his family???'.

When you woke up, the first thing you registered was the warm, woollen blanket draped on your shoulders, the soft cushion underneath you, and that stranger's voice, now tinged with emotion, saying something. You perked up your ears, pretending to be asleep, but you managed to catch a few words. "Dad...Alcoholic...gambling...abuse...Mother left...fell to his death..Like me..." You couldn't help but suck in some air in surprise. 'Like me'? So...that nice stranger also had a papa and mama that hit him and scolded him?

You slowly shifted and slid off the sofa, wrapping yourself in the blanket, and waddling towards the voice. The stranger's amber eyes turned to you in surprise as you reached out to hug him. Though, as you were still quite small, you could only cling to his leg. The pixel-creature thing beside him floated down to look at you. You reached a hand out to try and touch, curiosity gleaming in your gaze.

Kinich chuckled, picked you up, bringing you to the sofa again, where he set you down. You plopped down next to him, still trying to feel the strange creature. "So," Kinich said, catching your attention, "What's your name? I'm Kinich." Your brows furrowed in confusion a you tried to remember. But the only words that your parents had used to address you were  'freak', 'useless', 'monster'. No matter how hard you tried, your name seemed simply...out of reach.

"I-I'm sorry, mister..." You bowed your head. "I-I can't remember..." Kinich stretched a hand towards your face, and you slammed your eyelids shut, tensing in preparation of whatever punishment was about to come. Instead, you felt gentle, featherlike touches on your head, and whenever his hand made contact, it didn't hurt, and was...oddly comforting?

You opened your mismatched eyes, awe and wonder in your eyes as you looked at Kinich.  Were you...getting pet? Kinich spoke to you softly, in the voice he would use to talk to injured animals. In a way, you were similar. "It's okay. We won't hurt you. You're safe now." Ajaw added, "Of course! Don't forget, you're under the protection of the Almighty-" Kinich cut him with an exasperated-annoyed look. You giggled at their antics.

At the sound of your laughter, the two turned to look at you in surprise. You immediately closed your mouth. Did they not like laughing? Were you not supposed to laugh? "I'm sorry-" Kinich hastily cut you off. "There's nothing wrong with laughing! We were just surprised, that's all." He looked at Ajaw. "Right, Ajaw?" Ajaw bounced his pixelated head up and down expressing agreement with Kinich. "Of course! The Almighty-" Kinich stared at him. "I -I mean, I would never break my promises!"

Reassured, you let your smile spread across your face. These people were different-they couldn't be more different from your papa and mama.

It didn't take long for Kinich to ask if he could adopt you. It didn't take long for you to say yes.

(ONE MONTH LATER)

"We should get this one. It says 'healthy and nutritious'." Kinich stated firmly, crossing his arms. "Nuh-Uh! We should get this one! It says 'boosts growth' ! The Almighty Dragonlord is never wrong!"Ajaw argued. You stood at the side and watched, sucking on your lollipop as Kinich and Ajaw argued over which brand of cereal to buy. Just as things were getting interesting, a cheerful voice called out, "Hey guys! Watcha doin'?" You turned to see a girl with white hair and blue highlights, holding a...surfboard in her hands.

When the stranger appeared, you immediately darted behind Kinich, trying to hide yourself. "Oh? Kinich, is that your kid?" Mualani asked, looking at you as you peeked out from behind Kinich. Kinich sighed. "Yes, he is." Mualani cooed in adoration. "Can I see him? Please?" She exclaimed, barely containing her excitement. "That's up to him." Kinich told her. you hesitantly peeked out. Surely anyone who was friends with your papa couldn't be mean...

You hesitantly walked up to Mualani. "H-hello pretty miss..." You mumbled shyly, turning mismatched eyes to the floor. Mualani was absolutely gushing over you. "Wow, you're so cute! Your eyes are very beautiful! Oh, by the way, I'm Mualani!" You listened to the pretty miss introduce herself and asked, "Miss Mualani..." "Yes?" Mualani replied. "Are you dating my papa?"

Silence

"Ah-! Uh, O-of course not! Your 'papa' and I are just friends!" Mualani chuckled nervously with a red face. Behind you, Kinich's face was also flushed. You turned your mismatched eyes to Mualani, staring at her intently. "Reeeaaalllyyyy?" You questioned, piercing gaze never leaving her. Mualani nodded vigorously. You turned to Kinich and asked him accusingly, "Papa! you said that I would have a mama!" Kinich stuttered. "I-I never said that!" You looked at him innocently. "So, another papa?" Kinich choked on air. (EXPOSED-)

After a while, you let the topic go, though abit sad that you didn't manage to get a mama for your papa. Then again, another papa wouldn't be too bad either....(cough-Lyney-cough). Ajaw almost managed to hold his laughter in, but he ended up laughing at Kinich's expense without a silver of guilt.

That day, you were lectured by your papa about what not to say in front of strangers and he told you to apologise to Mualani. You nodded cheekily, and Kinich groaned, rubbing his temples. He could already feel the headache. Soon, you fell asleep, curled up next to your papa. Comforted by the warmth from your small figure, Kinich smiled despite himself and gently brushed your bangs away from your eyes.

"Damn, Kinch, you really are soft for him, huh?" Ajaw suddenly appeared. Although used to Ajax's sudden appearances, Kinich couldn't help but jolt slightly and sent him a murderous glare. Ajaw gulped nervously.

Next to Kinich, your face turned away, a smile grazed your lips. This was the chaotic family you called home.

EXTRA

(1 year later)

"Papa, I told you!" you tackled the blue haired man with a hug. "I told you that she was going to be my mama!" Kinich and Mualani flushed in unison. Kinich momentarily lost the ability to speak. You tilted your head, all innocent. "But...what about mister Lyney?" Kinich turned into a tomato in a matter of seconds. You and Ajaw burst out laughing at your mama and papa's blushing faces. "You-" Kinich ran after you, but you were already long gone thanks to the grappling hook he had given you. Ajaw tagged along with you, not wanting to face Kinich's wrath. After a moment, Mualani recovered and joined in on this cheeky game of tag.

In the end, you got caught by your parents and was scolded. But it was so worth it.

!Platonic!

“Raincutter!” Xingqiu swept his sword at the ruin guard, his sword infused with hydro.

You jumped up behind the ruin guard, polearm ever at the ready, flipping through the air and plunging at the ‘eye’ of the mechanical thing. Before the ruin guard had a chance to react, it was already frozen.  Your brother, Gaming, somersaulted into the air, plunging at the ruin guard, his lion head infused with pyro. The poor ruin guard never had a chance. Chongyun had just finished off the pyro slimes, and hurried over to check the now deactivated ruin guard. You stabbed your polearm into the ground, one arm wrapped around its hilt as you kneeled one knee on the ground, the other hand gripping the core of the ruin guard.

“Guys, this is the thing that Albedo wanted, right?” You asked them, standing up and brushing imaginary dust off your clothes. The four of you vision wielders made your weapons disappear to analyze the core. Your brother’s eyes lit up, “Whoaa! That looks dope! I’m pretty sure it’s the one that Albedo wants!” The four of you had decided to go on a small field trip to Monstadt, the City of Freedom, otherwise known as the City Favoured by Wind. The four of you were just helping out Albedo, an alchemist. He had promised to give you guys a tour around dragonspine! “Soo, where to next? How about the Thousand Winds Temple?” Your brother suggested eagerly. Chongyun agreed. “I have heard many good reviews about the temple.”

“Sure, I don’t see why not.” You shrugged. You tossed the core to Xingqiu, your best friend. “Qiu, you take this, okay?” Xingqiu fumbled with it for a moment before catching it. “Of course, my dear friend!” He replied, keeping it in his inventory. The four of you set off for the temple, the two claymores in front, and the two of you at the back. Gaming was talking Chongyun’s ear off, but he didn’t seem to mind. You turned to Xingqiu. “Soo, how life?” You nudged him with your shoulder, smiling cheekily. Xingqiu smiled and replied, “It’s has been well for me, my friend. I know when to expect Wanwen bookhouse to receive its deliveries now, thanks to our dear friend Gaming.” You hummed at his response.

The two of you continued walking in comfortably, your hand in his as the two of you caught up with each other. You only let go of his hand to gesture around to show him how much dim sum your brother had purchased. “Qiu, you wouldn’t believe it! One day, I went home and I saw this mountain of dim sum!” Xingqiu chuckled as he listened to your rambling, happy to let your voice fill the silence. The two of you walked shoulder to shoulder, and the two claymores in front were chatting animatedly.  Soon, you reached the temple, only to find hillichurl camps around the place.

“…” you stared at the camps. “Okay, Chongyun and I will take that one, you and Xingqiu can take that one.” Gaming gestured. “Okay.” You voiced your agreement. Your group split as you went to tackle the camps. You heard Chongyun yell, “Swift and Merciful!” While delivering blow that was definitely swift but not at all merciful. Your brother chuckled and said, “Many Happy Returns!” And promptly extinguished a few hillichurls. “Those two are scary…” you told Xingqiu. Xingqiu just smiled and nodded. The two of you then rushed off to the camp that you were supposed to clear. “Raincutter!” Blades of water appeared around the two of you as Xingqiu attacked. You darted around, the two of you herding the monsters as close as possible.

“Okay, it’s good!” You told Xingqiu, and attacked as soon as he jumped back. You planted your spear into the ground and frost crept around the group, trapping them in a circle of cryo. Ice shards flew around and encased your spear into cryo, the sharp shards dealing damage to any monster within its radius. You smiled. “Ready, Get Set, Freeze!” The ice encasing the monsters exploded, taking care of most of them, you and Xingqiu taking down the remaining one or two.

Watching the two of you from the now cleared camp, Gaming grinned and told Chongyun, “50 mora that they’ll date in the future.” Chongyun replied, “100 mora that they’re already dating.”. Over at the camp, you sneezed. “Weird…” Xingqiu looked at you in concern. (For your mental health-)

!Platonic!

Your hands shook as you applied ointment on them, voices of the people full of contempt floating around your ears. You bit your lip as you tightened the bandage so much that the areas of flesh next to it became purple. When you deemed the bandaging alright, you pulled on your gloves, hiding the bandage from sight completely. Just in time. A knock on your door caused you to jolt out of your daze.“It’s Gaming and Xingqiu! Please open the door!” The lion dancer’s voice floated through the walls. You hastily stood up, brushing away imaginary dust, and ran up to open the door.

Gaming and Xingqiu were your best friends, along with Chongyun, and the thought of seeing them put a smile on your face. Gaming was like the sun. Warm, cheerful, and brightened up the lives of people around him. Xingqiu was like the moon. He was calm, serene, and he was someone you could trust with your troubles. Well, Xingqiu was mostly composed, except when it came to Chongyun…

You opened the door, to be met with their solemn faces. Your face fell. “…What is it…?” The two of them walked in and closed the door behind them, before Gaming asked you, hurt look on his face, “Why didn’t you tell us? Aren’t we your best friends?”

They knew. As you tried to accept the realization, your mind drifted off to what could happen now. Maybe they were here to say that they couldn’t be friends with you anymore? Maybe they wanted to pretend the three of you never knew each other to begin with? Your mind grew hazy with all the ridiculous thoughts. Xingqiu’s voice cut through your daze. “Are you okay? Did anyone do anything to you?” Wait, What? You slowly looked at him, and seeing the genuine concern, you shook your head shakily.

Gaming placed a hand on your shoulder, “Hey, buddy, it’s okay. Everyone has something they keep secret.” Xingqiu piped up, “Yeah, we won’t judge. We were hoping you would share with us when you were comfortable. Truly a shame we had to find out in this way…” You smiled weakly. “…Thanks, guys…”

The three of you settled on the couch, Gaming leaning his head on your shoulder as he rambled about nothing in particular. Xingqiu was content to just sit with your shoulders touching while reading his book. The lion dancer continued to talk, about wushou, about Qiqi, about his first time trying to do lion dancing.

The last one piqued your interest. Gaming talked about it with the same tone as the others, which caused you to take awhile to understand what he said. “Wait, you what?!” You whipped your head around. Xingqiu put down his book. Gaming froze, blinking his amber eyes innocently. “I uhh fell off the poles?” You didn't know whether to be concerned about his lack of concern or applaud him for his bravery, daring not to tell the two of you the moment he got injured. (RIP Yip Gaming, Bringer of Blessings, 2025. You will be missed-)

“So you’re telling me that you got an injury so serious that it almost ended your whole career, with the scar still there even though it’s been a few years,” you paused to take a breath, “And you’re telling us now?!?!” Gaming scratched his head with a gloved hand, “Yeah…?” Then after a moment, he added, “Is there anything wrong…?” You threw your hands up in the air, taking care not to hit Gaming, in exasperation.

Watching from the side, Xingqiu chuckled in amusement. “Qiu, help me tell Ming why there’s something wrong with nearly dying and only telling your friends a few years later!”

Gaming smiled sheepishly, “Well, if you put it like that…” You facepalmed. Xingqiu laughed a little. “Well, if my friends have all shared something they’ve been hiding today, it’s only fair that I do too.” Xingqiu declared. The two of you turned your heads towards him in curiosity. Xingqiu cleared his throat abit dramatically before declaring, “I’ve been dating Chongyun.”

After a few seconds of silence, Gaming turned to ask Xingqiu, “Uhh, is that it..?” Xingqiu gasped and clutched his chest, “Is that it???” You turned to him with a deadpan look. “Bro, it would’ve been more surprising if you told us that you weren’t dating Yun.” Xingqiu tapped his chin thoughtfully. “…Perhaps I have been slightly obvious.”

Gaming chuckled at that. “Qiu, I’ve seen the two of you go on dates.” You added, “You literally asked me for advice??? You said, and I quote, ‘…a beloved light haired friend who deeply enjoys popsicles…’ couldn’t have been more obvious, honestly.” You looked at Xingqiu. “No offense, but you two have been mutual pining for so long it physically hurts to watch. Right, Ming?”

Now it was Xingqiu’s turn to look sheepish. “My friends, perhaps you do have a point. Some incidents could have been avoided had I confessed sooner.” You smiled cheekily. “Like the time you were writing a love poem and ran to my house at 3AM because you couldn’t think of something that rhymed with ‘sea salt popsicles’ ?” Xingqiu’s face flushed. “Brother, I thought we agreed not to speak of that incident!” Gaming laughed. “I mean, you were down pretty bad back then.”

The three of you just hung out for a while. "...I just suddenly had a thought. Who's going to fill Yun in about everything?" You asked. "...Definitely not Qiu." Gaming teased. Xingqiu's cheeks rivalled a tomato. "Brother, not you too!" All the way in Wuwang Hill, a certain popsicle loving exorcist sneezed. "How unusual...perhaps there are spirits nearby."

Back in Liyue Harbour,

As the sun drooped down towards the mountains, streaks of gold lingered in the air as night approached. You turned to your friends. “Guys, thanks for coming to check on me today. I really appreciate you guys doing that. I hope I didn’t cause you any trouble…” under the sky that was adorned with both sun and moon, the two boys turned to you and smiled before replying in unison. “It’s Okay.
