The Situation in the Ant Kingdom

Summary:

Alleged text of a very brief book that was rumoured to be sold for a small period of time at the Underground Tavern, only a few months after the Ladybug Exile.

Notes:

A quite small thing born from imagining how would some ant intellectuals feel about Queen Elizant II's questionable choices during the beginning of her reign, this was not written to be taken as the ant author being objectively right nor objectively wrong in everything she's saying so if you choose to agree with anything she wrote about the Ant Queen or not is your own opinion, I guess. But she does look a bit racist to wasps in it.

Partially inspired by a few books in the first world war era that talked about the political situation in it.

Work Text:

It is plain to see the greatest failure of our late Queen was choosing the successor she chose, out of all other princesses our Colony has readily available which have as much desire and vastly greater acumen of how to handle said power than Elizant II does.

Queen Elizant II has failed our Colony, Kingdom and Antkind as a whole, making us look as socially primitive as the Wasps, with no sense of strategy, morality or logic. It is a miracle she hasn’t made the Bees part ways with us as she made Termites do.

Many of my fellow Ants still hold faith that she will change and “fix her mess”, while others believe we will need to “just deal” with her reign until her death; blind optimism and blank pessimism, both foolish.

It should be clear to all Ants who can see or hear that our new Queen, vainly wearing her better’s name, will not change. This doesn’t mean we should simply leave her to lead our Kingdom, our Colony and our Kind into ramshackle as many ignorants resign themselves to.

Every Ant that truly loves her Colony and her Kingdom has the duty of aiding to bring this tyrant-to-be down, that much was clear after how she handled the relations with the Termites and the Ladybug situation, though I won’t blame her for the fallout with the Wasps, as long term positive relations with an archaic society such as them are simply impossible.

Our Colony still has many members of the princess caste within it, most of them having not left to form other Colonies. They can still replace the current Queen with enough popular support. I know much of the Ant population sees it as an insane idea, for an eusocial species to rebel against their Queen, perish that thought.

Being a member of an eusocial species revolves around serving the Colony first, the collective of all of us, second to that the Queen, the most important member and leader of the Colony, and third the Kingdom, the institution which we use to interact with the outside world.

If the Queen fails the Colony, fails her community, the Colony comes first: the Queen must be replaced.

And it is urgent, all well-read know the Wasps are rapidly arming themselves, all indicates they want to restart their war against the Bees, and the current Bee population is not ready for War by any metric, neither are we to defend what are currently our only allies. Yet the Queen refuses to acknowledge it, not providing our average soldier sister with better gear than a long stick and an armour which fails to protect most vital organs, as it doesn’t shelter the abdomen in any way.

All our generals acknowledge this, so do Bee generals, yet our current Queen refuses to acknowledge this; the Bee Queen’s response to the Wasp provocations leaves much room for improvement too, yet she at least has compromised with her people to increase weapon production.

A decision I must accept to have been wise is the creation of the Explorer’s Association, yet I still have some gripes with it; why not allocate those resources to have elite soldiers of our own, instead of relying so heavily on what are in many aspects essentially Queen-approved mercenaries?

Not only this, but most of the explorers are not Ants, meaning they serve only the Queen, not the Kingdom nor the Colony, this wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for the personality of the Queen and for the overreliance our military is having on them, especially on two mantises known as “Team Maki”.

And I have not yet mentioned the bandit situation, a swift blow from our soldiers in cooperation with the Bee military could severely cripple the criminals, yet the Queen inexplicably refuses to deal with in any significant way. But this is not nearly the biggest issue our loved Colony faces today.

The Wasp Kingdom and its people are and will always be the greatest enemy to peace and civilisation in Bugaria, them winning an offensive war –which they are clearly preparing for extensively while we are not– would spell the end of the freedom of the people residing in whatever territory they conquer at best, and annihilation of said people at worst, I have no doubts of that.

It is unavoidable that the Wasps will declare war soon, and to have any chance at victory we must first replace the Queen with a competent one that will allow our Colony and our Kingdom to ready themselves; the survival of Bugarian Ants as a people depends on it, lest we be subjugated by our ancient enemy forever, or worse.

And I know many will call me radical for my words on this book, maybe even an enemy of the Colony, it is likely the Queen will ban it for its "unacceptable content”, which will only further my point.

This Colony has never seen darker days than the ones it sees now, it’s almost a paradox how a Queen like Elizant I could have such a huge failure of foresight as to choose such a person of all princesses as the “Elizant II” to come after her death.

Now, an objection I know I will surely get is that I haven’t treated the Termites as enemies, despite their Royals’ odious remarks about our species, but I don’t think they would count as enemies even now; it is the Queen’s fault our relations fell, and the reason their Royals think such things about Antkind is for the lack of exposure to us and the horrendous impression our current Queen gives. It is hard to fully blame them for thinking of Ants as brute and unintelligent in such circumstances.

The Bee Queen is a curious case, as her Kingdom has considerably more technological and military power than our own, yet she never protests our Queen’s behaviour even when said behaviour warrants it, I speculate she simply doesn’t want to lose the workforce of Golden Settlement’s farmers, as most of them are Ants and some of them would go back to the Anthill if our Queen was angered enough to request they do so.

The Queen has failed the people she represents, and not only us, she has failed our Termite would-be allies and our Ladybug civilians. With her gone, the Ant Kingdom will become a good influence to the world again.

This is my objective, and I will not waver from it, just as I won’t waver from distributing this little book as much as possible no matter how much censorship there is. It could require a civil war, but how far is that now?
