Like Lightning

Summary:

Lynn finds a new, happier life.

Work Text:

At first Lynn doesn’t entirely understand the idea of ‘lightning strikes twice’ but as she spends time with both John and Amanda, she can see Amanda is hiding something. So, when the woman leaves, letting her go at the last possible second, she follows.

She finds her doing what she can to tend to Allison’s wounds, she feels it. Love, twice over, even when she knows she shouldn’t care for Amanda. There’s something different here, with Allison, Amanda seems softened, tender hearted in ways she isn’t usually.

“What happened to her?”

She speaks carefully, aware of Amanda’s nervousness here, but smiles when Amanda looks at her, moving toward Allison, the woman’s paleness clear even as she moves to check on her, as much as possible. It’s clear Amanda has done a decent enough job keeping Allison alive, healing slowly, but there’s something softer now.

“A trap…”

Amanda pauses, swallows then speaks with a soft but pained tone that makes Lynn’s eyes sting from it.

“She was…. She wasn’t supposed to survive.”

“She has… thanks to you.”

Amanda shudders slightly and Lynn moves to rewrap Allison’s acid burnt hand, then tend the tears on the woman’s ribs, her voice softer still.

“I can help… if you let me.”

Amanda nods, just once, slightly nervously.

“Of course.”

Allison heals, Amanda by her side, Lynn working to do what she can, scavenging in ways that should get her fired, but as she works, she finds ways to help. Allison’s hand will never be the same, of course, but she can do what she can, even in Amanda’s home. She finds gloves, at first, to aid the healing, then, when she is sure Allison is healthy enough to withstand it, finds a way to make a skin for the wounded hand, making a mould of the wounded hand then working to get the woman a plastic cover that matches her skin tone and will keep her safe from any future infection, careful to match a cotton glove that is just thin enough to sit between the wounded hand and the new cover.

Lightning strikes twice, Lynn loses a lot, but she gains more. A home, love and hope.
