The traveler and the guides

Summary:

Frisk thought they were alone on their journey, but their guides help them see how beautiful the place they've landed is... while also learning about their new friends' pasts...

Or Undertale, but with all the human souls accompanying Frisk on their adventure.

Notes:

I'm sorry if this is misspelled, English is not my first language so if I misspell something I would appreciate it if you could explain it to me, sorry for the inconvenience.

Chapter 1: The fall and the presentations

Summary:

After a big fall, they hears children's voices in the distance... what does this mean?

Chapter Text

Before I begin, I'd like to clarify a few things...

The first is that I'm aware of the existence of Undertale Rainbow and Undertale Red and Yellow, which I actually draw inspiration from those fangames, but they have different elements and dialogue

The second is that, aside from Undertale Rainbow, there's obviously also content from Undertale Yellow and Undertale Promise

The third is that most human souls have names, which I'll leave below...

💛 Justice (Yellow): Clover (to no one's surprise)
Pronouns: They/Them
Clover is from the USA, doesn't speak a second language, but through living with the other souls, they learned a few things from each other... their ages are around 12-13, they don't quite remember their birthdays, the soul they get along best with is the green one, and because of what they've experienced with their friends, their relationship with the blue soul is somewhat more... reserved

💚 Kindness (Green): Oliver
Pronouns: He/Him
Oliver is from Spain but his parents moved to the USA, he speaks two languages and is the kindest (to no one's surprise) of all the souls... his age is around 12-13, he doesn't remember his birthday when he fell underground he lost track of time and forgot, he gets along quite well with all the souls in general and there is not one he doesn't talk to, he is the one who maintains coexistence between all the souls

💜 Perseverance (Purple): Hae-Won
Pronouns: She/Them
Her family is from South Korea. She was born and lived part of her life in Korea until she moved to the USA at the age of six. They are fluent in two languages. She's possibly the oldest, in fact. They're 15, or so they think. When they fell into the underground, she was days away from turning 15, but they don't know which day they died. They get along better with the soul of integrity because they're of similar ages

💙 Integrity (Blue): Harmony
Pronouns: She/Them
They were born in the USA but learned some Spanish at school and Italian from their friend. Their family died and they were in the city's orphanage where they met the orange soul... They are 14 years old and one of the oldest. They get along best with the orange soul and Hae-Won... They don't have any kind of fight with Clover or anything like that, but they stay away from them, so they respect the distance they put between them

🧡 Bravery (Orange): Andrea
Pronouns: They/Them
Their mother was Italian and their father abandoned them as soon as they arrived in the USA. Their mother and they were poor and their mother was sick, so they always stayed by her side until she died. When they arrived at the orphanage, barely spoke English and that's why they didn't have any friends until Harmony, who learned some Italian for them. They died at 12, or that's how old they're thought to be. They gets along very well with Harmony (obviously) and with almost everyone except Clover, with whom they doesn't speak due to their silence around Harmony

🩵 Patience (Light blue): Kimiyo
Pronouns: She/Her
Her parents were Japanese, she was born in the USA and never lived in Japan, however she was not from the city of Mount Ebott but went to visit a relative and ended up falling into the underworld, she is the youngest of all the souls at the age of 8 and therefore the one who receives the most protection from the rest of the souls, she gets along well with practically all the souls

The fourth point is that Chara will be in this fic, I will try my best to portray them

I'd like to add that I'm not a fan of putting ships in this kind of fanfics but you're free to ship obviously... BUT NOT DARK OR ILLEGAL THINGS OH MY GOD, it seems like it shouldn't be said but it always should be said.

.... btw enjoy

The light glimpses the eyes of the fallen human, truly feeling their body aching but strangely comfortable, so comfortable that they would lie down to sleep right there if it weren't for the fact that they have to see if they are in a safe place. They really like the idea of sleeping, but all they know is that they have fallen from a great height; sleeping is not an option

Frisk got up carefully. The fall has made them a little dizzy. They hope they are okay. The flower bed cushioned the blow, but now they find themselves alone and with a large, dark hallway in front of them. They took a breath and courage before walking down the hallway... dark... very dark... They thought about going back and seeing if they could climb up where they fell (even though they know it is impossible), but they heard a murmur... They stopped in their tracks, looking around; no one was there... They thought about resuming their path until they heard it again, but now it was a loud, clear voice...

💚– Oh wow, is it because of them that we're here?

💜– I mean… I don't see any other reason

♥️– It's literally what I said… can you stop asking so many questions?

Oh wow, voices.

💚– They're looking at us a little weird

🧡– I'd look at us the same way if I were in their shoes

Now Frisk thinks they've completely lost their minds. They look closely... one, two, three... no... seven children.

Frisk shakes their head as they try to make sense of what's in front of them. It seems the blow has left them feeling bad. They look closely at the faces of the children in front of them. The ghosts stare intently, seemingly waiting for something to come out of their lips. Frisk remains silent, pointing to the door at the end of the hallway, then shakes their heads and walks past, ignoring the ghosts.

💛– HEY! How rude!

💚– You know, I don't blame them

💜– They just fell from a great height and the first thing they see are seven weird ghosts waving at them… I'd also think it's all a concussion from the impact… or that I'm going crazy

💛– But you shouldn't worry! We're only incorporeal, but we do exist

💙– I don't think that will help them

🩵– …Poor thing when they meet the monsters

As if they were a robot, Frisk stops and turns their head in the direction of the ghost who said that. The seven ghosts notice, and one of them smile

♥️- Oh, it seems you mentioned something that interests them

Frisk couldn't stop their hands from shaking with nerves. That meant the stories they told in the city were true... the ghosts... the children they saw on the missing poster... Frisk felt like they might cry, but two of the children quickly calmed them down by approaching them. One spoke with the softest, sweetest voice he'd ever heard, so comforting that it made them want to stay in a hug... although that wasn't possible

💚– Don't cry, dear. Monsters are creatures you can befriend, and they won't hurt you. In that case, kindness is something necessary that can help you move forward.

💛– Exactly! They're not bad; they're kind, and they'll help you.

♥️– Well, first they'll try to kill them, you know?

💛– Hey!

💚– That's true, but it's not necessary to use violence to get out of those situations. We can confront them with kindness.

💙– I agree with the chef, really... you wouldn't want to hurt them...

The yellow child  whispered something they couldn't hear, but they didn't care. The children's soft words calmed them, and they took a deep breath

💛- We're following you, so you won't be alone now... LET'S MOVE FORWARD!

Following the cheerful voice, Frisk passed through the door...

Chapter 2

Summary:

A flower appears and with it a childless mother, also the elders of the group seem to know something interesting for Frisk

Notes:

I was supposed to post this in a week, but…

HOWDY

I’M FLOWEY

FLOWEY THE FLOWER

And that didn't help Frisk stop thinking they'd lost their minds

💚– …A convenient name

🧡– Too much

The flower continued speaking, to Frisk's dismay, even though the souls seemed accustomed to it. The smallest one waved her hand at the flower as she spoke, but it was clear that the flower (to her disappointment) didn't see them

💛-Do you know Flowey too?

No one had time to respond, as Frisk was dragged into a battle

💛-Oh, don't worry, maybe he's... teaching you?

Flowey's attack appears and some of the ghosts quickly went on the defensive

💙– For your sake, I don't think it's a good idea to take that…

But the advice came too late, as Frisk took what Flowey offered and fell to their knees from the blow. Flowey laughed and then launched into his monologue

IN THIS WORLD, IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED

Luckily for the human, someone came to their rescue. They heard the sweet voice and looked up, finding… A goat?

💙– It's Mom!

One of the souls looked at the other strangely for mentioning that so lightly

🧡– It's true! Don't be afraid of her, she's trustworthy

Frisk was afraid to follow the souls' advice again, but considering that the decision was now unanimous, they decided to trust her and walk behind Toriel, following her until they saw a large yellow star that Toriel didn't seem to see, but their thoughts were interrupted by the voice of one of the children

💛– Flowey... Was it really Flowey?

💚– Do you know him?

💛– Yes, before... well, you know, but he wasn't someone bad, somewhat unfriendly, but that's all

♥️– …Are you sure? He didn't seem very friendly, actually

The youngest of the group approached the older ones to speak more clearly

🩵– Flowey helped me when I fell here

💛– See? Flowey... he considered me his...

The soul didn't finish the sentence, and no one pressed for it to end, so Frisk decided to continue walking toward the star. They were, to say the least, confused

They turned to look at the souls to find an answer on what to do with that. The souls looked at them for a few seconds before the olders approached them

💙– It's for "SAVE"

Frisk looked as if that didn't give them any answers... which it was

💜– When you press that star, you can "SAVE" By doing so, you make a "SAVE POINT" which will help you continue or go back when necessary

💙– It also helps you heal. Consider it a help since we don't have magic like monsters

Frisk nodded, touching the star and "SAVE" once they made their way upstairs while listening to the other souls' conversation

♥️– How did you master it? I mean.. You know, SAVE and LOAD so fast?

💜– I don't know, it was pure instinct, it was simple in my opinion

💙– Maybe it's because we're older and our souls were more used to it

🩵– Oh... that would explain why I'm not understanding what you're talking about...

💛– You never loaded? But you had Flowey with you...

🩵– Flowey helped me... actually, he did almost everything for me

A common thought crossed everyone's mind, but no one said it out loud. The small voice belonged to the smallest one, so it was obvious she would need more help than the rest.

Toriel solved the puzzle. Before following her, they read the sign... "Only the brave..." At that moment, one of the voices spoke:

🧡- Like me!

♥️- Brave or selfish?

🧡- Ha ha ha ha, funny...

In the room with the mannequin, it could be said that the conversation was uncomfortable. Chatting with a mannequin was definitely not in Frisk's plans, much less the laughter of the ghost children who followed them... At least Toriel seemed happy with their conversation... if you can call it a conversation

As they entered the next room, Toriel told them about the switches, which made the boy in yellow talk about his fall into the ruins... Frisk saw the hole covered with wood and felt a chill

💜- Did you really fall through there?

♥️- Are you an idiot?

💛– …I'll ignore that last comment

Frisk stifled a laugh, clearly aware of the tantrum the yellow ghost was about to throw at that insult. However, she flipped the right switches to keep moving forward.

They soon realized that Toriel was actually very trustworthy, just as the rest of the ghosts had said before. This calmed them down. They weren't too keen on physical contact; the source of the warmth was something they were missing, but they felt so protected while holding Toriel's hand that they felt confident.

Finally, upon reaching the long hallway, Frisk couldn't help but feel a little nervous about "Toriel's test," but the souls quickly appeared

💛– Don't worry, buddy, you're not alone!

💚– We'll stay by your side, you'll see how it'll turn out.

♥️– I don't think there's any way this will go wrong either, you know?

There was a slight murmur from the majority in agreement, but no one noticed that the youngest remained absolutely silent.

Frisk took a spurt from their guides' words and ran down the hallway, their inexhaustible energy ensuring they didn't tire in the long corridor. When they reached the end, Toriel emerged from the column to greet them.

🧡– A test? Really?

💜– Well, I guess it's a good way to test independence, ummm, I think.

♥️– The worst test I've ever seen.

💚– Hey, look, you have a phone now!

Toriel left, Frisk was left "alone" in the room in the great hall... of course, if they didn't count that they were being accompanied by seven dead children, obviously.
There was silence for a while, the ghosts began to circle around them looking for some entertainment while they waited patiently... the girl in light blue seemed happy

💛– Gosh, this is so boring

♥️– Are you tired of being upside down or spinning around like a fool?

💛– Rude

♥️– It's hard to take you seriously when you're literally spinning around, you know?

Another longer silence followed, then the boy in green turned upside down like the yellow one

💚– … wow

♥️– Great. Now you're two idiots. Hey, someone's going to tell you that stop?

The child in red couldn't say anything because the rest were upside down imitating the first one… They just let out a disappointed sigh

♥️– I don't know why I expected anything from you guys

• • ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ๑ ⋅ ⋯ ୨ ୧ ⋯ ⋅ ๑ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ • •

Patience was a virtue, but it was one that only one of the souls had

🧡– I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE, LET'S JUST GET OUT OF HERE!!

🩵– NO! Toriel said we should stay here

♥️– She didn't say anything to us, she only said it to them

Silence filled the room. One of the children nudged the one in red with their elbow, who snorted before murmuring a small apology to the smallest one

💙– Technically, you're right... I mean...

🩵– We can't leave them alone!

💜– No, but we can tell them to move

Frisk looked up at the girl in purple who sat next to them. She was comparably the tallest of all the ghosts and also seemed to be the voice of reason and logic in the chaotic group.

💜– I understand you want to listen to Toriel, but we've been here for a while, you don't have any food, and you're probably hungry… we have to move. Do you understand?

Frisk thought for a moment. Yes, they were hungry, and yes, they felt safer waiting... but they understood the purple ghost's point. Staying still will only make them die faster... even so, they wanted to give Toriel a few minutes of courtesy

💜– …Okay, we'll stay a little longer

The light blue soul seemed more annoyed by them, but the blue soul's arms calmed her, hugging her protectively as if they were sisters. The younger one remained cradled in the older one's arms... and Frisk felt jealous of the warmth that hug surely had, but it passed when they felt the green ghost leaning on one of their shoulders, giving them small whispers of encouragement... They couldn't help but feel comfortable and protected in that moment. They were beginning to understand why the boy in green was the one who talked the most to the rest of the ghosts.

Notes:

On Twitter I saw drawings of how Frisk would react to certain things in the game and I wanted to put a lot more emotions into it

Notes:

OH MY GOD WHAT AM I DOING? I GET VERY NERVOUS MAKING FANFICS AND NOW I WANT TO DO SOMETHING THAT'S OUT OF WHAT I USUALLY DO SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY
