Guy’s Girls

Summary:

Iruka gets Kakashi to go to a concert with him. Kakashi would rather be at home smoking weed and reading his new book. Instead he’s smoking weed at a concert, alone and waiting for it to be over. Thankfully, the last song is performed by the band’s bassist who catches Kakashi’s eyes- eye.

Chapter 1: First Sight

Chapter Text

Flick. Flick.

The flame engulfs the end of Kakashi’s joint. With a long, slow inhale, the pungent herb aroma filled his airways. The music blared almost unintelligibly loud, filling the small venue effortlessly. The pound of the drums was felt in every concert goer’s chest. The air was warm, mixed with various substance smoke residue and body musk from three hundred people. Bodies thrusted, bounced and jolted with each beat. The dark room was illuminated by colorful beams of light, dancing around, capturing a new person in its spotlight each second. Bodies bumped and ground into one another, arms floated in the sky with hips swaying outrageously. The floors held onto shoes for a second longer due to the countless spilled drinks and other unexplained juices drying on its surface. Kakashi’s attention was pulled back to the stage as the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. While he took another long draw from the joint, Kakashi’s eyes scanned the stage. Although his vision wasn’t exactly perfect, with the eye that Kakashi kept uncovered, he focused on one specific person.

The bass player walks to the front of the stage, his instrument swinging as he stepped forward.

“Folks,” The lead singer started. “Tonight has been a wonderful experience. We are honored to spend this Friday night with you!” The crowd blazed with a mix of happy shouts and disappointed groans. “But before we say goodnight, we have one last song for you guys!” Unanimously the crowd returned to cheerful chants. “We have one more song for you! Take it away, guy!”

The bassist stepped forward, a look of concentration splayed across his surprisingly chiseled, glistening from sweat and wonderfully toned face. He looked up into the crowd with his lips tugged into a smirk as he begins to pluck at the bass, a seven note tune that sent the crowd into a fit of delighted yells. Arms were thrown into the air and the energy of the entire venue multiplied.

Drums accompanied the bassist next. Kakashi watched as heads banged with each smack of drumsticks to drum. What the now inebriated silver-haired man didn’t expect was the bassist to lean into the microphone.

“I’m gonna fight ‘em off.”

‘Oh fuck.’ Kakashi thought. Or maybe said out loud. He couldn’t tell over the howl of the audience. The roar of the crowd grew as the bassist continued.

“A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back.”

Coincidentally enough, Kakashi thought the same as he watched the bassist’s black hair swing with each intense nod. The bassist, Guy, didn’t look into the crowd much, which infuriated Kakashi only slightly. Although Kakashi wasn’t one to be particularly excited easily, especially not one to daydream about unlikely hookups, he could still entertain the idea of locking eyes with the bassist, maybe even drawing his attention momentarily. Perhaps it was the marijuana influencing such a shift in his typically collected and nonchalant demeanor. Kakashi watched as Guy’s eyes either intently watched his own fingers dancing along the neck of his bass or fluttered shut as he leaned into the mic to sing.

“They’re gonna rip it off.”

Again, very similar to Kakashi’s own thoughts.

“They’re gonna take their time behind my back.”

At this point, the song mocked, maybe even slightly tormented kakashi. Although the embarrassing irony, he was grateful to hear and watch the words expel from the bassist’s lips. Guy’s voice didn’t quite match the voice of the original artist but Guy made sure to mimic the whine and drawl of the words as it was sung originally. Again, another thing for Kakashi to be thankful for.

Kakashi was especially thankful for his best buddy, Iruka, who had to physically drag him out of his dingy apartment to join him for the local Friday night bar concert. Kakashi was hesitant to go at first. He was looking forward to reading his new book that he purchased the day prior after a long day of staring at paperwork that needed signatures and revisions. Iruka insisted he couldn’t go alone, yet Kakashi stood independently in the crowd. He knew Iruka found someone to either kiss or argue with, possibly both if his friend was lucky enough to find someone who could match his entertaining personality. Kakashi was glad to be alone temporarily, not wanting to be teased by his friend for his cheeks that now flushed red. Kakashi would blame it on the weed but Iruka would definitely catch on to the awe filled gaze casted to the bassist.

“And the message coming from my eyes says leave it alone!” The build up is paired with the music growing louder and the band mates jumping on beat to the chorus. The room overflowed with the concert goers singing along, bodies bumping against each other and drinks raised high. Kakashi watched as sweat dripped from Guy’s pitch black hair. Strands stuck to his face were briefly detached when Guy swung his head, clearing his face of wet locks. Guy leaned into the mic once more, his eyes quickly swiping over the crowd and landing on Kakashi. There were hundreds of people in the venue. Kakashi couldn’t and wouldn’t believe that Guy’s wink was delivered to him solely. Yet, the heat rising from his chest and to his face told otherwise.

Kakashi couldn’t look away. Guy’s gaze shifted back to his hands but Kakashi watched Guy intensely. His long sleeved shirt clung to his skin, outlining his arms and chest, leaving very little to Kakashi’s thankfully vibrant imagination. His biceps flexed with each pluck of the bass strings. His leg bounced matching the tempo of the song, his head doing the same with gentle nods as he sang.

“And if I catch you coming back my way, I’m gonna serve it to you.” Guy’s eyes shift again near Kakashi, his lids hung heavily over his eyes as he leaned over, keeping his mouth still near the microphone but shifting himself to view the right side of the venue. Guy’s gaze fell eerily close to where Kakashi stood. If Kakashi didn’t know any better, he would be obnoxiously swooning, screaming loudly with cartoonish red beating hearts for eyes.

Instead, his head nodded in sync with the beat. He kept eye contact with Guy, pulling his joint back to his lips and flicking the lighter on without breaking. A smirk slowly formed on Guy’s lips and he turned his attention back to the center. Kakashi took a long drag of his joint but struggled to get a normal hit. He plucked the joint from his lips to see that the attempt of seductively catching Guy’s attention resulted in the disfiguring of the joint’s structure. Whatever. It was totally worth it.

Kakashi was familiar with the song but never paid close attention to it, until tonight. Kakashi was delighted to learn the band’s rendition of the popular song’s bridge. He watched closely as the lead singer walked up to Guy, yanking her guitar over her head and through her hair, holding it tight in her right hand. The drummer’s foot steadily tapped to the beat of the song, but Guy stopped playing briefly. The melody was picked up by one of the bandmates in the back, lightly plucking the seven note tune in a higher octave.

The lead singer stood next to Guy and he turned to face her. As he lifted the bass over his head, Guy’s shirt caught onto the knob meant to secure the bass strap. The crowd flared with squeals and wanting shouts as Guy’s shirt was stolen from his body. And thank goodness it happened. The lead took Guy’s bass into her left hand, forcing her guitar in her right hand into Guy’s grasp, swapping their instruments.

Purposeful or not, Guy’s glistening muscles reflected off of the bright stage lights. His abs visibly contracted as he laughed, seemingly at the crowds reaction to his shirt’s departure. Even brighter than the stage lights were his teeth as they peeked from behind his pink lips that curved into a smile. There was nowhere, in fact, nothing Kakashi would rather be doing than scanning Guy’s incredibly sculpted physique. ‘There’s no way this guy is just a bassist. He has to be an olympian. or a Greek god.’ Kakashi thought.

Guy’s hand ran through his wet, pitch black hair as he dropped to his knees in front of the lead singer. The crowd surged again with yells. Guy’s eyes stared up into the lead singers, his arms stretched outright to her. ‘God.’ Kakashi finalized in thought, or prayer, again, he wasn’t sure. As vivid as Kakashi’s imagination could be, he would’ve never been able to generate such an image. A greek god on his knees, dark brown eyes begging, staring up at the figure above him with arms stretched out, pleading. Kakashi almost read a book in lieu of watching his literal dreams come to life before him. Guy swiftly placed the strap of the guitar over his head and maneuvered it to sit comfortably where his bass laid previously. The lead simultaneously did the same with Guy’s bass. Kakashi was able to decipher her movements without ever taking his eyes off of Guy. He couldn’t take his eyes off of Guy.

He can play the guitar too? Is it that so surprising after watching him perform? Kakashi was pulled from his trance as he watched the lead singer catch a water bottle that was propelled from offstage. She uncapped the bottle and took the smallest sip Kakashi has ever seen before mischievously scanning her eyes over the kneeling divinity in front of her. With the bottle gripped securely in hand, she reached forward and tilted the bottle over Guy’s head. Water gently streamed down his head, parting through his dark hair and cascaded down his neck and chest. The whole sight causing the crowd to scream impossibly louder. Guy’s bright smile pierced through the water streaming down his face. He head tilted back, lips parting and tongue slipping out over his bottom lip to catch the stream in his mouth. Water fell in every direction, but most notably to Kakashi, a stream fell down the tip of Guy’s tongue, thickening with spit and falling lazily onto his chest.

“Close your mouth, dude!” Kakashi heard from his side. His gaze snapped towards the direction of the perpetrator who dared to speak such idiotic words. His angry stare fell on his friend Iruka, who only smirked at him in response. Iruka pointed to Kakashi’s mouth. “Yo, dude. Close your mouth.”

Kakashi suddenly became aware of his own presence. His mouth was indeed ajar. It was also severely dry. Something he would blame on the weed. Kakashi didn’t have enough time to be embarrassed before the sharp sound of an electric guitar shot through the venue. Kakashi turned back to the stage and saw Guy- who’s now facing the crowd, still on his knees- shaking the water from his hair while his fingers moved diligently across the neck of the guitar. Guy leaned back, fingers seemingly moving on their own. His head fell backwards and swayed from side to side, completely engrossed by the music coming from his guitar.

Shouts from Iruka brought Kakashi out of his trance, again and found his lips parted in awe, again. Luckily and also unluckily for Kakashi, Guy’s solo was over not too much longer than it began. He savored every second of it. He silently wished his bad eye had the power to record anything he wanted, so he couldn’t forget the attraction he was so lucky to bear witness to. Instead, his bad eye was covered, unable to see this magnificent scene. Kakashi almost felt bad for his weak eye.

Guy rose to his feet again, his chest inflated and deflated heavily as his fingers slowed to an end, the entirety of the band ending in one strong note. The crowd erupted in loud cheers, somehow filled with thanks and adoration for such an incredible performance.

“We are Guy’s Girls. You all have been amazing, thank you for spending your Friday with us. See you next time, Konaha!” The lead shouted into the microphone.

Kakashi watched as the band waved at the crowd before turning and jogging off stage. He felt a small pang of sadness in his chest. The empty stage didn’t feel this empty two hours ago. In fact, two hours ago, Kakashi was angrily texting his friend Yamato about Iruka and his incredibly annoying ability to get anyone to join him on his shenanigans. Kakashi made a mental note to send Iruka his portion for the entry fee for the concert. As Kakashi turned to the exit to leave with a pout inhabiting his lips, Iruka stepped in front of Kakashi, forcing him to a halt.

“Dude, wanna go backstage? I know the bassist!” Iruka clapped a hand on Kakashi’s shoulder with a charming grin that made even Kakashi smile.

Kakashi made a mental note to update his previous note to take Iruka to dinner instead.

Chapter Text

Kakashi had never been backstage before. He'd been to only a handful of concerts and had previously had no interest in going backstage. Well, maybe to see the technical aspect of performances. Now, Kakashi had every reason to want to go backstage.

He followed Iruka who was led by a stereotypically large body guard. The employee was dressed in all black, with a black baseball cap labeled ‘security’ in thick white letters. Iruka turned to face Kakashi while still following the silent security guard. “Dude, isn’t this sick?” Iruka held two fists up which emphasized his already obvious excitement.

Kakashi could only nod as he continued to walk. The body guard walked with a speed that was unnaturally fast for Kakashi. His head was preoccupied with the idea of meeting Guy. He allowed his thoughts to consume him as Kakashi recounted the scene that played out just minutes prior.

Sweat, water and now spit glistened over Guy’s chest.

His tongue splayed over his bottom lip, uselessly catching the stream of water before it ran down his chest. His pecs, all the way down his stomach and to an area that made Kakashi dizzy just thinking about it, was covered in dark, curly hair. Guy’s biceps and pectoral muscles clenched and unclenched as he played.

The shrill of the guitar pierced through the speakers. Guy’s head hung back, swinging his raven hair that shone bright in the bright concert lights.

“Dude! I said are you excited! Are you okay?” The concern from Iruka’s voice yanked Kakashi from his daydream.

“No, I’m excited! I’m okay.” Kakashi tried to sound convincing. He wasn’t sure if Iruka actually believed him, but for now, his friend accepted his answer.

Kakashi nervously fidgeted with the neckline of his shirt. It was rare when Kakashi felt comfortable enough to show his face. It was rarer for Kakashi to show his face and have his eye uncovered at the same time. He didn’t think he would need to cover his eye at the concert with the dark setting and large crowd. No one was there for him specifically. Iruka was familiar with Kakashi’s bare face but that was a fact only true to a few people. He desperately wanted to cover both his eye and face but decided to pull his black face mask from his pocket and to keep his left eye closed. Kakashi preferred black face masks to the typical blue and white face masks. They matched any outfit Kakashi had in his dark wardrobe and he believed they added to his mysterious personality. Something like that.

The bodyguard stopped at a door. There was a square black chalkboard attached to it. ‘Guy’s Girls’ was written messily across the center. There were stars, hearts and a small cartoon turtle drawn around the edges in matching white chalk. The bodyguard knocked five times, a solid strike each time. “Verified visitors. Iruka and Kakashi.” The bodyguard’s voice was heavy and stern.

The door swung open. A young women stood, smiling at the three in front of her. Her long, dark hair fell over her shoulders. Despite performing an entire concert, her hair looked freshly washed. Kakashi wondered if there was a bathroom in their room. Her gaze fell on Kakashi after she nodded to the bodyguard for his departure. “Iruka! Is this your Kakashi you’ve told me about?” She said, crossing her arms as she examined Kakashi.

“Cut it out, ‘Nai. Don’t creep him out.” Iruka whined.

Kakashi raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t familiar with their relationship. As far as Kakashi knew, Iruka was friends with the bassist exclusively.

“Kakashi,” Iruka started, as if he could read his friend’s mind. “This is Kurenai. She’s a pain in my butt.” He stuck his tongue out and pushed past her into the band’s room. Kakashi remained in his spot, held in place by the awkward and intense atmosphere.

“Uh.. yo. I’m Kakashi.” He flicked his finger from his head as a greeting.

Kurenai nodded as her eyes scanned Kakashi. After what felt like years of mind melting torture under her gaze, she finally smiled and the shift in mood violently dragged Kakashi out of his head. “Really nice to meet you. Come in! Let me introduce you to everyone!”

Kakashi felt his stomach clench. Guy would be part of ‘everyone’. He cleared his throat as he followed her into the room. He tended to not draw attention or even scare people from his mostly undetectable presence. He did not want to scare the hottest guy he’s ever laid eye on.

The room was lowly lit, the deep red walls shading almost brown. To the left wall stood a large vanity, with large warm lightbulbs that brightened the entire dressing room. On the opposite wall was another twin vanity, unused. Upon first glance into the room, a long emerald colored couch sat against the wall. Large posters of iconic 90’s punk bands were framed above the couch. Kakashi noticed the backup guitarist at the vanity, next to her on a comically large beanbag on the ground. It looked like a comfortable spot for Kakashi but seemed to be already accounted for. The room had a faint smell of eucalyptus, Kakashi guessed it was produced by the diffuser that hummed on the unused vanity.

Kakashi’s gaze settled on Guy first. He was now fully clothed, which Kakashi couldn’t tell if he was grateful for or upset at. He sat on the couch, strumming on his bass. His bandmate sat at the vanity next to the couch and hummed along to the song Guy played while she wiped off the makeup and sweat from the concert with a soaked cotton round. Another bandmate laid on the floor across the room, with a steaming cup of noodles by her feet waiting to be consumed. It seemed she was in the middle of a stretch but decided halfway that she’d rather take a quick nap.

“So!” Kurenai clapped her hands together, startling Kakashi. He really needed to stop drifting off. “As you heard, I’m Kurenai. Lead vocalist and guitarist.” She tilted her head toward the occupied vanity. We have Shizune, she plays guitar, piano and does our backup vocals.”

Shizune turned from her chair to face Kakashi. She waved with the discolored round in her hand. “Hello!” She turned back to face the mirror and continued to wipe. Kakashi opened his mouth to introduce himself but Shizune was already humming again.

“Next we have Ayame…” Kurenai’s voice slowed to a halt. “Well, had Ayame.” She walked over to her sleeping bandmate and nudged Ayame’s hip gently with her foot. “Hm. Guess I’ll be taking this..” Kurenai leaned down to reach for the ramen cup. Ayame’s hand suddenly shot out and grabbed Kurenai’s wrist. “Don’t you think about it…” Ayame growled.

Kakashi paused, nervously waiting for some type of skirmish to play out. Instead, the two ladies began to giggle. Kurenai playfully laid on top of Ayame, who then wrapped her arms around Kurenai with a small grin tugging at her lips.

“‘Kashi! Over here man! You gotta hear this!” Iruka called from the couch.

Kakashi took a deep breath and walked towards his friend. Iruka sat on the furthest part of the couch with Guy, legs propped up on the cushions between them. For this, Kakashi was thankful. As much as he daydreamed about Guy within the short time of knowing him, he was not ready to be next to him just yet. Guy still hadn’t acknowledged Kakashi’s presence, still engrossed in his strumming. Guy’s eyebrows clenched together as he began to really play. The guitar whined a bewitching cry. Guy’s fingers skillfully pranced around the neck of the bass. Kakashi watched in awe, feeling himself becoming entranced. He couldn’t help but stare.

Shizune’s hum transitioned into words mumbled under her breath. “After last night, I think I, I think I’m in love with you.

You could say that again. Guy’s head bobbed as he continued to play. The concentration on his face was visible and attractive.

I woke up this morning, and you’re running through my mind baby.

Guy’s hands shifted quickly on the guitar, creating a buzzing riff that contrasted from the melody.

After last night, baby. Oh, you got to, got to tell me. When I’m gon’ see you again?”

Kurenai and Ayame’s voices joined, harmonizing naturally with Shizune’s. As beautiful as their voices  were, Kakashi’s attention remained on Guy. He watched as his fingers danced along the frets, ending the song with a complicated lay.

Iruka’s sharp claps snatched Kakashi from his trance that was set on Guy. The bassist smiled at his friend, bowing his head with a hand on his chest.

“You’re too kind Iruk- oh!” Guy’s eyes shifted to Kakashi. Kakashi stared back, seeing a genuine and surprised look on Guy’s face. “I apologize! I had no clue you were here!”

Kakashi’s hand snuck to the back of his neck, rubbing absentmindedly, almost as if he were soothing a sore spot caused by Guy’s comment. Guy’s expression shifted quickly to a look of horror.

“Not that you are easily overlooked! I mean-“

“No, I understand!” Kakashi said quickly, wanting to end Guy’s suffering. “I was watching- uh, well, listening to you play. You’re really good.” Kakashi tried his best to speak without his voice wavering from nervousness.

A light blush dusted over Guy’s cheek. He smiled brightly at Kakashi, the brightest smile he’d ever seen. “Thank you so much.. Uh.. I’m sorry! What’s your name?”

“Oh, my fault, man. This is Kakashi, my best bud. I’ve told you about him before. He’s the dude that’s stupid smart.” Iruka casually introduced from the couch. He swung his legs from off of the cushions and patted at the free spot, signaling Kakashi to take the open seat.

Kakashi swallowed thickly. His throat and mouth were hopelessly dry. He was reminded of the mild high he was dealing with. “Uh, could I have a cup of water? Cotton mouth.” He added with a mumble at the end. He didn’t want to admit that Guy’s talent and looks were a factor for his desert-like mouth.

Guy shot up in response, leaning his bass against the armrest of the couch. The couch’s soft texture provided no grip for the bass to hang on to, causing the bass to tip. Kakashi reached out quickly to capture the neck of the instrument in his hand, but was met with a warm touch. Guy’s hand was wrapped around Kakashi’s, both supporting the neck of the guitar. Guy left go of Kakashi’s hand and awkwardly smiled. “Uh, thank you!” His words raced out of his mouth. “I’ll get y-your water!”

Iruka scoffed as he watched Guy fetch a water bottle from the mini fridge in the corner on the room. “In all my years of knowing that guy, I’ve never once heard him stutter.” He muttered under his breath. The comment was supposed to be for his own ears only but the words traveled enough for Kakashi to hear.

Is that so? What else could he do?

Guy returned with Kakashi’s bottle and before Kakashi’s common sense could stop him from testing unknown waters, Kakashi found his fingers lingering on Guy's hand as he was handed the bottle.

“I- uh..” Guy stuttered.

Iruka shot up, his grin filled with amazement and shock. “Guy, are you on drugs?”

Giggles were heard from either corners of the room. The women, now fully engaged in the conversation, all kept to their own but listened closely.

“Me?” Guy was obviously flustered, his bronze skin colored red with embarrassment. More soft giggles erupted from his band mates. “I wish.” He muttered defeatedly, walking over to his seat on the couch where he desperately tried to shrink himself from Kakashi’s ruthless gaze.

Oh! Kakashi could help!

Kakashi reached into his back pocket, grabbing a small flat black rectangular box. A press of his  thumb to the box’s latch revealed three neatly wrapped joints, all mostly uniform in size. “Do you smoke?” He said, presently the box in Guy’s direction.

Guy’s eyes lit up with a small, thankful smile on his lips. “How’d you get in here with that much?” His eyebrow flicked up playfully.

Kakashi’s blush was mostly protected by his mask. He paused, then went in for the kill. “I have my ways.” He said with a wink meant only for Guy, but Iruka wasn’t blind.

“Huh,” Iruka’s eyes shifted from Kakashi to Guy. Their gazes were set on each other. Timid, nervous, but intrigued by one another. “Well, let’s light one up, shall we?”

______

The room was filled with thick smoke. The musky smell of weed engulfed any porous texture in the room. Music played softly from the record player in the corner of the room. The group stayed in their respective spots for the most part, except now more engaged with each other, unintentionally creating one large circle. Kurenai sat with her legs sprawled on the ground, propped up by her arms behind her. Ayame’s head was resting on Kurenai’s lap, holding her arm over her head to hold one of the rotating joints for Kurenai, then back down to her mouth for her own turn.

Shizune now sat in the corner of the room that housed the large beanbag, enough room for three people but only occupied by the exhausted musician. Her eyes fluttered open each time someone would erupt in a coughing fit, but she quickly fell back asleep each time.

The other joint stayed on the couch, passed between Iruka, Kakashi and Guy. Iruka sat with his legs swung over Kakashi’s lap and his head dangling off the edge of the couch, only lifted when the joint made its way back to him. Kakashi sat between the two men, with his body turned more toward Guy’s direction. Guy sat at the other edge of the couch, admittedly inching closer to Kakashi with every pass of the joint.

Why reach when he could sit closer, right?

His arm held his head up lazily, his bicep resting maliciously close to Kakashi’s head. Thank goodness for the mouth drying side effects of marijuana. It offset the drool that would’ve slipped if he stared at Guy’s large flexing bicep for too long.

“So,” Guy started. He reached over Kakashi’s body to pass the joint to Iruka. Kakashi watched as Guy leaned close to him, his warm body barely grazing him. Guy’s shirt began riding up as he leaned further, offering a view Kakashi tried to soak up in the seven seconds it allowed. Guy returned to his position, slightly leaned forward, closer to Kakashi than ever before. “Are you wearing the mask for safety measures? Not that there’s anything wrong with that at all! I was just interested since we are sharing a joint!” Guy’s voice was loud. Typically, that would’ve driven Kakashi insane. He was everything but loud himself. But he couldn’t find any reason to be annoyed with Guy.

“Uh..” Kakashi began rubbing the back of his neck, seeking some sort of comfort. “I hate when people stare at me.”

“I am so sorry, Kakashi!” Guy retreated a few inches away. “I did not mean to impose on your personal space. I was just-“ Guy’s frantic apology was cut short by Kakashi’s hand grabbing Guy’s receding bicep. Both Kakashi and Guy were held in a tense, intimidating staring contest. If Kakashi knew Guy any better, he would’ve known Guy to never back down from a challenge. Yet he watched as Guy’s eyes flickered around nervously to his good eye, his bad eye, his lips hidden behind the mask, to his hair and above his head.

Kakashi wasn’t sure if this was the weed influencing him anymore. This was now pure desire.

His finger yanked his mask down to reveal his smirk, his eyes intently watching Guy’s reaction. Guy’s eyes lingered on Kakashi’s lips, licking his own lips reflexively, causing Kakashi to copy Guy’s actions. Or maybe he just wanted to see what Guy would do after. Guy cleared his throat and Kakashi watched as his adam’s apple jumped with a thick swallow. If they were alone in the room, Kakashi’s next move, maybe would’ve differed from reality.

His eyelids lowered but he kept his gaze on Guy’s eyes, which watched Kakashi’s lips. Kakashi bit into his bottom lip, far enough to allow his sharp canines to press into his lip. Guy’s eyes widened and his lips parted in awe. That enough was confirmation for the typical human. But Kakashi wanted more. He needed to know this wouldn’t be a one-and-done thing.

“I, uh, wanted to tell you. I play guitar, too.” His words fell out before he could think of a better lie. Instantly, Kakashi regretted his decision as he watched Guy light up.

Guy quickly stood to his feet, a newfound energy that shook Kakashi from his sultry state.

“You’re kidding! What kind? How long? What’s your favorite genre to play? What’s…” Guy’s excited rambling faded away as Kakashi mentally scolded himself.

He knew nothing about guitar. Other than the difference between acoustic and electric. There was no way he could continue his lie without getting caught.. Right?

“-can you play me something?” The phrase Kakashi feared brought him back to reality.

Thankfully, his lightning quick reflexes now attempted to work in his favor. With a quick scan over the guitar sitting behind Guy, he started. “I’m left-handed actually. I would love to but I suck on a right handed. Sorry.” Kakashi added a small, deceptively apologetic smile to Guy. Kakashi watched Guy’s face to determine how well his lie worked.

Guy hummed with an understanding nod. “Ah, I see.” He sat back down on the couch, certainly closer to Kakashi than he had been before.

Kakashi grabbed his water bottle for a sip, breathing out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. ‘Thank goodness that worked.’

“My son, Lee, is a left handed guitarist, too!”

Son?

Kakashi felt the cold water slip down the wrong pipe in his throat. His eyes widened as he choked out sputtered coughs, gasping for air between each strangled wheeze. Guy’s arms were around Kakashi before he could wave him off. Guy held his palm to Kakashi’s back. Guy’s warm palm sent tingles all over Kakashi’s backside.

Oh! Maybe this isn’t so bad. Maybe I could die like this.’ Kakashi foolishly thought before Guy’s hand lifted and struck back down with a force probably comparable to being hit by a semi truck. The little air that graciously made its way into his lungs was spent to ask, “Your son?

Guy’s face twisted in delight, a strong hand coming up over his chest before letting out the heartiest booming laugh Kakashi, or anyone for that matter, has ever heard. If there was any physical discomfort leftover from the choking or slap, it was resolved upon hearing Guy’s laughter. Guy keeled over, bracing against the couch for support, his loud laughs turned into breathless wheezes. Another hard slap from Guy landed on Kakashi’s back, making him tense up from the shooting pain of the repeatedly assaulted spot.

“I- HA!” Tears pricked out of the sides of Guy’s eyes. His long black eyelashes glistened wonderfully. If Kakashi wasn’t so horrified, he would’ve definitely attempted to reach out and wipe Guy’s lashes. “He’s not my biological son. I’m not his guardian!” Guy said between small sniffles. He wiped the tears from his eyes and settled with a steady exhale. “He’s a college student that I mentor!”

Kakashi felt all the air return to his lungs. He nodded weakly, still fatigued from the mental whiplash he had just experienced. “Oh! That’s.. quite..” Attractive? Kind-hearted? Desirable? Erotically paternal? “That’s quite admirable, Guy.” Kakashi said in a soft voice.

Immediately, he felt the tense presence of every body in the room shoot up and turn to look at him. He was unnaturally frozen, held in place by the heavy atmosphere. He watched Guy’s face for some sign of understanding. He was met with shaky, watery eyes, a pouting lip and a tight, unrelenting grip on his hands by Guy’s own trembling set.

“Oh brother…” Iruka sighed under his breath.

Before Kakashi could turn and make any sense in the change of atmosphere, Guy’s eyes began pouring tears. He stared at Kakashi with dark doe-eyes that seemed.. happy?

Thank you so much, Kakashi!” Guy wrapped his arms around Kakashi before he could protest (although, he wasn’t sure if he would actually do so). Kakashi tried his best to enjoy the contact, but his bones and internal organs started to ache.

“Guy..” A threatening tone called from the corner of the room. “Release him.” Kakashi could feel Kurenai’s burning stare.

The grip reluctantly loosened on Kakashi. Guy’s head hung, his shiny black hair ruffled with each loud sniff.

What the hell just happened?

“Thank you, Kakashi. That is the most amazing compliment a man could ever receive!” Guy’s grip slid to Kakashi’s shoulder, holding the two in another tense gaze.

“I’m sorry.. Kakashi, was it?” The drummer’s words were muffled by the noodles in her mouth. “Guy is a super emotional dude. Like a himbo. Like a smart but stupid, crazy buff, overly affectionate himbo.” She continued chewing while picking at her cup noodles.

Guy rubbed the back of his neck, lowering his head to hide his blush. “Ayame, quit it!” He whined quietly. Kakashi’s eyes watched Ayame, looking for any hint of his relationship to Guy. She sang his praises but kept a neutral face when she spoke. Kakashi couldn’t wait around for an answer.

“Are you two…” He started, wiggling a finger between the both of them.

A choking sound came from Ayame right before she bursted out into laughter, stomping her foot as she gasped for air. Guy rolled his eyes and shook his head with a small smile on his lips.

Guy? You think he’s-” Iruka began before Kurenai shot up from her spot and slapped a hand over his mouth.

“C’mon, Iruka! You know we love telling the story!” Kurenai whined before sending her palm into the back of Iruka’s head.

Iruka sat back in his spot on the couch with a grumble, rubbing his head. “It’s not even that great of a story, ‘Nai.” He mumbled.

“I’d love to hear it.” Kakashi reassured her. Guy looked up at Kakashi with a silly smile.

Kakashi noticed how his teeth were so perfect, it looked like it sparkled beneath his lips. Guy’s lips weren’t chapped. They looked soft. It was clear that Guy took care of himself. His dark tanned skin glistened from sweat. Was that sweat? Was it hot in the room? Was it only Kakashi who felt warm all of a sudden? He then noticed Guy’s unique haircut. It looked like it was once a bowl cut but was now overgrown with shaggy layers. Whatever it was, Kakashi was infatuated. Kakashi also couldn’t help but notice Guy’s eyes and eyebrows. Obviously, his eyebrows were large. They were bold, sharp and clean shaved. It made sense for his personality. His eyes were bold in their own way. Deep dark brown and round, glimmering with every laugh. He might’ve been the most beautiful thing Kakashi has ever seen.

“Well, it all started our last year of college,” Kurenai’s introduction to her story pulled Kakashi from his thoughts, though he noticed Guy was staring back at him in a similar manner. “Guy was in my biochemistry lab. I was so close to flunking that class until Guy marched up to me and basically demanded we study together. He probably saw my notes and decided that was reason enough to help.” Kurenai smiled as she recalled the story. “Personally, I thought he was flirting, and he isn’t too hard on the eyes.” She sent a wink in Guy’s direction who again rolled his eyes with a small smile.

“Until!” Shizune shot up from her spot on the beanbag. Everyone turned to her with a variation of a confused expression on each face. “Oh, well I couldn’t sleep with you all coughing and laughing without me! Pass me one!” She leaned forward with her fingers reaching outward. Guy leaned forward, fetching the lighter from his pocket. Shizune snatched the joint that made its way back to Guy’s fingers and placed the filter end to her lips, leaning forward with the joint dangling between her lips. Guy flicked the lighter alive and carefully placed the flame to the end of the joint for Shizune. Kakashi watched the innocently intimate moment before him. The smallest twang of jealousy brewed in his mind.

Oh how he wished he was Shizune right now.

Shizune took a small inhale, brows furrowing as she held the smoke in her lungs. With a satisfied look, she exhaled with the joint still between her lips. Smoke expelled from either side of the joint by the small gaps offered from her lips. “Thank you, Guy. Kakashi?” She coaxed, taking the joint from her lips and wiggled it in front of him. Her look towards Kakashi had a hint of playfulness.

Kakashi took the joint carefully, putting it up to his lips for his turn. Shizune continued.

“Guy also did the same thing to me, but in our art appreciation class. I could’ve sworn he winked at me!” She held her hands up in defense with a wide smile.

“To be fair, he probably did. I even thought he liked me!” Iruka interjected.

“You wish.” Kakashi muttered, occupying his mouth with another hit immediately after. Iruka’s foot came up to nudge Kakashi. Guy’s shy giggle was then cemented into Kakashi’s memory.

“Then, to top it all off,” Ayame noted, chiming in on the story, “Guy bought my bus ticket that same day because I lost my bus card. It was raining too. Straight out of a romance movie, I’m telling ya! He asks me if I wanted to join him for a study session at the library and of course I said yes. Come to find out, he invited all of us at the same time to the same study group!”

Guy’s face fell into his hands. “C’mon guys, please!” He groaned.

“So naturally, we were all pissed. Like what the fuck, man? You invite three girls to a study date?” The joint made its way to Kurenai, making her break in her story. With a quick hit, she passed it to Ayame. Kakashi noted how she held it to Ayame’s lips, waiting for her to inhale to take the joint away. “Then,” She continued, “We all kinda stopped for a second and really assessed the situation. Then assessed Guy. Then we all kinda went ‘ohh’.” All three women joined in, emphasizing the epiphanic realization.

Kakashi’s head cocked to the side. “What did you guys realize?” He inquired innocently. All eyes shifted to Kakashi, the women all had an amused smirk on their faces. The sudden attention felt heavy on Kakashi and he instinctively pulled his mask back over his mouth and nose.

“That the dude is a raging homo!” Iruka exclaimed with a chuckle.

Guy sat up straight, sending a glare towards Iruka. “That is not the correct terminology, Iru.”

Kakashi smiled behind his mask. He had known Iruka for a couple of years at that point and had never heard him suggest a nickname for himself. However, it was coming from Guy. Kakashi also came to realize that night that there were a few things he would do if Guy wanted it so.

“But yes, I asked three women to join me for a study session as a.. Raging homosexual.” Guy’s cheeks grew redder as he continued. “I didn’t think they would see it as a date! I just wanted to make new friends!”

The women erupted in sounds of admiration. “That’s why you’re our best friend now, Guy-pie! We love you!” Kurenai crossed the room with her arms out, falling on top of Guy for a dramatic embrace. Guy grumbled momentarily, then wrapped his arms around Kurenai. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, sinking into Guy’s chest.

Again, Kakashi’s heart fluttered at the scene but couldn’t help the tiniest amount of jealousy that burned alongside it. He would do a number of things to trade spots with her.

“Yeah,” Kurenai sighed heavily, “It worked out in the end though. We all met each other. We became good friends then decided to start our band. I’m sure you can now understand why we chose our band name.”

Kakashi nodded, his eyes stuck on Guy. Guy’s eyes were closed, his head laid on top of Kurenai’s. He looked so serene.

Kakashi then realized he spent the entire night craving Guy but made no effort to find out if he was single or not. In fact, Kakashi knew very little of Guy. That wouldn’t do. Even if Guy wasn’t single, Kakashi was determined to be a friend. There was something about Guy that made Kakashi want to discover more about him. Even discover more about himself.

“Can I ask about your son, Lee?” Kakashi asked, watching Guy shoot up with excitement from his question. He was practically buzzing.

“Nope!” Kurenai stood up now that her previous spot was disrupted. “Sorry, Kakashi. Guy has a ‘Lee limit’. He can only discuss Lee for five minutes a day. He can and has gone on for hours, and he’s already used up his time today.” She crossed her arms as she walked back to her spot on the floor next to Ayame.

With Kakashi’s first Guy-inquiry attempt failed, he struggled to come up with more questions. There was so much he wanted to ask. He had trouble sorting through the non-explicit questions for Guy.

“Well, here’s what I know about the kid,” Iruka started, “He is incredible at guitar, bass, banjo, cello. Anything with strings, that kid can rock out. He’s like a mini version of Guy, talent, looks and all.”

Kakashi watched Guy, whose smile only grew the more Iruka praised Lee.

“He has a crazy long braid down his back. Guy is planning on growing his hair out to match but I don’t think he’ll ever compete with Lee.”

Guy nodded, running a hand through his shaggy, pitch black hair. His eyebrows furrowed before he spoke. “Kakashi, can I ask you something?” He asked.

Kakashi nodded. “Of course.”

Guy took a small breath. “What happened to your eye, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Oh, uh,” Kakashi’s gaze fell to his lap. His fingers started picking at the fabric of his jeans. “I got in an a-accident.” He stammered under his breath.

It wasn’t the first time he’s been questioned about his eye. Typically, he wore an eyepatch that protected and covered his bad eye. Even with the cover, a portion of his scar peaked out from either side. Tonight, he decided against wearing it, brandishing the entire scar. It covered the entirety of his frail eye, one vertical faded slice scar down the middle. Underneath his intentionally closed eyelid was the infamous eye. The accident left a prominent discoloration to his eye. He definitely would’ve worn his eyepatch had he known he would get the chance to meet Guy.

Kakashi waited for more questions from Guy. He was used to the stares and obvious whispers of people passing by. It would take years for anyone to get used to. He was still trying to succeed in doing so.

Instead, he felt his hands become weighed down and covered in a strong warmth. Guy’s hands held onto Kakashi’s. Guy’s head hung, his gaze frozen on his lap. Kakashi could see a faint blush dusting Guy’s cheeks.

“I’m so sorry, Kakashi. I should’ve known better than to ask something so personal.” Guy’s eyes shifted upward, locking onto Kakashi’s. Kakashi felt sturdy thumbs rubbing small circles into his skin. “I wanted to know because I think your scar is so cool!”

Kakashi felt the spot where Guy’s hands were connected to his own heat up, along with his cheeks and maybe all of him completely.

Someone thought his scar was cool

Kakashi was taken aback by Guy’s comment. He had never heard a compliment about his eye. Only a not-so-subtle ‘woah’ from Iruka years ago. Overwhelmed, Kakashi responded before he could even think.

“Can you take me to the bathroom?”

What? No! That’s not what he wanted to say! He wanted to compliment Guy’s performance tonight. Tell him that was cool. Not a dumb scar on his eye. He wanted to tell Guy that his stupid haircut made him weak in the knees. Tell him that mentoring a kid made Kakashi’s typically cold heart beam. Tell him that if they were alone, he’d lean in and finally kiss those lips he’d been unmistakably staring at all night.

Anything but asking him to be an escort to the potty.

Despite how devastatingly embarrassing Kakashi’s question was, Guy was already on his feet with a hand outstretched to Kakashi. “It would be my pleasure!” Guy’s fingers wiggled around, inviting Kakashi to accept the silent offer.

Kakashi reached out for Guy’s hand and felt himself fly to his feet. Guy was incredibly strong and hoisted Kakashi upwards before he could even realize. Guy’s strength forced Kakashi up with more power than necessary, causing the masked man to stumble forward into Guy’s arms. Fortunately, Guy’s arms were already open, bracing for Kakashi’s impact. They stayed like this only for a moment, but the second they shared felt like minutes. Kakashi felt one of Guy’s hands on his waist, the other on his back. Guy’s eyes were filled with concern. His coffee brown irises pulled Kakashi into what felt like a warm embrace. He was pulled back into reality with a soft squeeze from Guy’s hands. He glanced down to find a small smile on Guy’s lips. Not a cocky smirk like the one that typically inhabited Kakashi’s covered lips. Not a mischievous smile he saw many times from Kurenai that night alone. Not a dumbfounded, teasing grin from Iruka. An inviting, caring and soft smile from Guy, all paired with his gentle eyes and hands in places that made his heart race.

Wow.

Kakashi cleared his throat to free himself from the sweet daydream. He stood up straight, fixing his clothing to lie flat against his body. Guy did the same to his own clothes, staring at the ground while his cheeks burned a mauve shade. “Follow me?”

Before Kakashi could open his mouth to reply, Guy abruptly turned on his heels and marched to the door. He quickly twisted the knob and flung the door open, as if the air outside was the antidote to the tense atmosphere held within the dressing room. And perhaps it was.

He turned to Kakashi, more composed and less red than before, gesturing with his hand towards the bright hallway. “After you!” His almost cartoonish jolly tone returned.

Kakashi made his way to the hall, waiting for Guy to catch up to him. Before the door could close, he heard Iruka from within. “You think they’re gonna smash-” The door closed with a loud smack against the frame. The embarrassed look returned to Guy’s face. Kakashi thought it looked sweet on him.

Guy and Kakashi began together down the hall, walking in step with each other. Guy’s extraordinarily clean converse slapped against the vinyl flooring. Kakashi’s steps were lighter in comparison, but his heels dragged against the ground with each step.

“It’s kinda weird where they placed our personal bathroom.” Guy commented, breaking their silence. It wasn’t an uncomfortable quiet, yet both men felt a tension that they couldn’t explain the emotion behind.  “We play here so often that we eventually were able to persuade the building owner to let us use one of the old storage closets as a personal bathroom. We all have our own key!” Guy fished a small lanyard from his back pocket for Kakashi to see.

“I didn’t know you guys played here regularly. I would’ve attended a show sooner.” Kakashi didn’t mean for his statement to be so flattering but he couldn’t ignore how Guy’s eyes widened.

“I’m really glad you enjoyed, Kakashi.” Guy’s voice was softer than his normal too-loud timbre. Kakashi was still getting used to it.

“When is your next show?” Kakashi asked.

“Actually, we are performing tomorrow night!” Guy was back to his typical volume. “Lee and his friends are performing with us. It’s a showcase for his class! If you’re free, I’d love to introduce him to you.”

Kakashi nodded, intentionally steadying himself so he wouldn’t appear too eager. He was more than eager. “Yeah, I’ll be there.” Kakashi winked, technically blinking with his already shut left eye, but effective nonetheless as he watched Guy smile shyly and avert his gaze to the ground.

“Here we are!” Guy stopped in front of a heavy brown wooden door. Skinny pieces of wood stuck out from the frame, threatening to poke and splinter any careless passerbyers.

“It looks sketchy now, but they will begin cosmetic repairs next week! I offered to lead the project with the staff! They’ve already done so much building us a bathroom. It’s the least I could do!” Guy exclaimed as he shoved the key into the knob. It took a few tries and repositions before Guy could get it unlocked. He pressed his shoulder into the door and shoved it open. “It’s still a work in progress.”

Guy patted the wall closest to him in search of the light. His foot held the door propped open. Without warning, the dark room was flooded with a bright light, illuminating the pristine bathroom. The floors, walls and amenities were all the same shade of porcelain white. It looked untouched. It even sparkled. Kakashi wondered what sketchy meant to Guy, but he’d be sure to ask some other time.

Guy stepped in, with proud hands on his hips. “We haven’t decorated yet but we hope to have it filled with any and all bathroom needs! Oh, and look!” He walked over to the toilet. The heavy door swung close with a loud thud. “NO!”

Before Kakashi could question, Guy ran to the door and helplessly tugged on the knob. It did not move. “Uh, Kakashi? Happen to have your phone on you?” Guy’s voice was tainted with nervousness.

Patting his pockets, Kakashi shook his head. “I left it next to Iruka. Guy, are we locked in?”

Guy turned to Kakashi with his hands behind his back. A guilty and sheepish frown was plastered on his face. “I.. Am afraid so.” His head dropped. “I am so embarrassed.” He muttered with a heavy sigh.

Kakashi glanced at the door, then to Guy, then back at the door. He looked up, closing his eyes for a quick and thankful prayer before settling on Guy again. Suddenly, there was a newfound confidence in Kakashi now that they were alone.

“Guy, if you wanted me alone so bad you could’ve asked.” Kakashi pulled down his mask to reveal his playful smirk.

Guy looked up, ready to defend himself but stopped once he spotted Kakashi’s look. He chuckled softly, shaking his head. “I can’t say I’m particularly upset to be locked in a room with you.” He cocked his head to the side, awaiting Kakashi’s response.

“Guess we have some time until someone comes looking for us.” Kakashi said with a shrug. He sat down on the floor, crossing his legs and holding his head up with his hand, his elbow digging into his knee for support.

Guy shuffled to the ground, sitting similarly to Kakashi except he sat tall with perfect posture. They stared at each other with small, lighthearted expressions on their faces. Guy’s cheeks were lightly dressed red. Kakashi’s eyes were hooded as he stared at Guy.

“Should we use this time to get to know each other?” Guy offered. His bright eyes and excited tone made Kakashi smile slightly.

“What do you wanna know?” Kakashi’s tone seemed almost uninterested but there was an underlying hint of genuine curiosity behind it.

So far, their personalities seemed to differ from each other. Kakashi was a monotone, indifferent and mild-tempered man. He was cocky and snarky when he could muster the energy to do so. It wasn’t easy to read him. Guy, on the other hand, was a bright, joyful, loud and caring man. You could tell any and every emotion he was feeling. He didn’t seem like he had much skill in subtly, which is why his next question made Kakashi freeze.

“Since Iruka already revealed my sexuality, I’ve been wanting to ask since then. Do you like guys?”

Well, Kakashi really liked a Guy.
