Chapter Text
Logan wasn’t having a great day.
It wasn’t because of a normal reason like ‘spilling your mug of coffee’. No, It was because his day had started by him not having enough cash for breakfast so he had to go without. Then, as he sat on a park bench hoping to get a quick nap in before he started his journey again, some asshole stole the little money he did have!
So now he here was, sat at the stupid park, with no money for a bus ticket and a pounding headache from having no food or water. Greattt. He’d only been in this town for a day. Logan sighed and leant back on the bench, he needed to figure out a way to get money. Maybe he could do some odd jobs for locals?
Logan got up slowly and made his way out of the park, he remembered seeing some stores around that hopefully could give him something to do in exchange for some cash.
As he was about to open the door to a small grocery store, his enhanced hearing picked up on some whispered shouting and swearing in the alleyway a few steps away from him. He peeked his head quickly round the corner to see two men with masks covering their faces loading what seemed to be guns. Logan listened carefully to their conversation.
“Dude hurry up, before someone sees!”
“Shut up and let me focus dumbass, the bank will still be there when we’re done.”
Ah, so they’re planning to rob a bank. Assholes. Logan understood the need for money but cmon, get a job! Stepping further into the alley, Logan cleared his throat, immediately making the two robbers spin around to face him. “There’s easier ways to get cash than to rob a bank yknow” Logan said, tilting his head slightly to the side.
The two masked men looked at each other before one of them turned back to Logan with a grimace “piss off kid! You don’t wanna get hurt do ya?” The man brandished the gun he was holding toward Logan.
Sighing, Logan unsheathed his claws, causing both men to freeze in place. “Fuck, he’s one of those monsters.” The one holding the gun spat angrily.
“Yeah so you better listen and not rob that bank, got it?” Logan pointed a clawed hand toward them.
The robbers laughed, clearly thinking he was joking. “What’s some stupid claws gonna do against a gun huh?” One of them replied before both men held up their weapons and pointed them toward Logan.
“More damage then you think, bub.” Logan smiled before he pounced at the two. Immediately one of the robbers fired his gun, just for the bullet to be dodged by Logan as he swiped his claws, cutting the weapon clean in half. The man yelped as his buddy just stood there in shock, allowing Logan to swipe at his gun too. Both weapons lay useless on the floor while the first man cursed angrily and lunged at Logan, but he quickly sheathed his claws and punched the man square in the face and with Logan’s adamantium bones, the man was out like a light in a second. He made quick work of the other man too and left both of them on the floor of the alley.
Logan sighed at tutted at the two robbers before he left them for someone else to find.
He should probably notify like the police or something but.. he doesn’t have a phone so oh well, someone will spot them eventually. Logan adjusted his leather jacket and walked out of the alleyway and turned down the pavement. He probably shouldn’t ask the grocery store for a job now and find somewhere else since someone might have spotted him coming out of that alleyway. Logan winced as a sharp pain spiked in his head, jeez he needs to find something to drink-
“Excuse me?” Logan looked up to see a pretty red haired woman stood in front of him.
He tilted his head slightly to the side, “yeah?”
“Hi, my name is Jean grey. I’m a teacher at Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters, it’s nice to meet you!” The red haired woman said as she smiled brightly.
Uhh, school for what now? “Sorry, I’m not interested lady.” Logan started as he tried to step around her.
“Hey- wait a minute!” The red head stepped in front of him, blocking his path. Logan groaned and looked back up at her.
“What.” Logan said, deadpanned. Honestly, just let him go so he can find a drink and some food to stop his splitting headache.
“Please just come with me, I need to show you something-“ At that moment Logan’s stomach decided to rumble embarrassingly. “-I’ll buy you some food..?” Jean looked down at him with a gentle smile and nodded toward a cafe down the street.
Food did sound pretty good right now… he guessed he could spare a minute or two.
“…Fine, let’s go.” Logan sighed.
Jeans face lit up and she waited for Logan to start walking before heading to the cafe. When they arrived, Jean found a small booth near the corner of the shop and both of them sat down.
“So, as I said before, my name is Jean grey. What’s your name?” She looked at Logan expectantly.
“Logan.”
“Nice to meet you then Logan. As I told you, I’m a teacher at Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters, and I’m here to offer you a place there.” Jean crossed her hands on the table before looking at the cafes menu.
A place at a school? This must be a trap, right? Besides, he couldn’t. It’s too risky.
Logan opened his mouth to answer but then closed it again as a waitress came over to take their orders.
“Two chicken sandwiches and two colas please.” Jean ordered for herself and Logan.
“Sure thing, it’ll be a couple minutes.” The waitress replied.
Jean smiled at them before turning back to Logan. “They’re the best on the menu.” She exclaimed.
“What do you want from me?” Obviously it was something since no one would offer a place anywhere for free.
“Oh no, nothing at all Logan. You see, the school is for mutants and I understand that you have abilities too. We want to help you.” She said it like it was no big deal. How did she know about his abilities? Shit, did she see the alleyway fight?
“What makes you think I need help? How can I trust you?” He questioned.
“Because, Logan. We’re the same.” Jean raised her hand and focused on the napkin holder next to them, then suddenly it lifted into the air for five seconds before falling back down to the table. Woah.
“Just because you have powers too doesn’t mean I can trust you. I’ve never even seen this school before.” Logan defends. He’s has been on the run for.. a while. It would be nice to be able to settle for a while but…
“How do I know it’s safe? There’s.. people after me.”
“You’ll be completely safe at the school Logan, and you can trust us. At least come and visit the school and make your choice after you’ve seen it. First, we’ll have to ask your parents.”
“I don’t have any parents.”Logan muttered.
“Then who’s been looking after you?”Jean asked confused.
“No one. I’m find on my own.” Logan tilted his head down slightly and Jean frowned but she didn’t ask any more questions thankfully.
Just then, the waitress came back with their food and the two of them ate quietly.
“You were right, this is good.” Logan smiled lightly.
“I told you, best thing on the menu!” Jean grinned and laughed.

Chapter Text
Okay, the mansion was huge. Like super huge. Jean had taken him in her car and they drove for about 10 minutes before reaching the school and Logan wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, if he did expect anything, it certainly wasn’t this.
There was massive front gates that opened upon arrival and then the driveway leading up surrounded by green grass and tall trees until they reached the mansion. And wow. The mansion was unlike any building Logan had seen before. The size of it was crazy, it had old stone walls with vines attached to them and Logan thought it was actually kinda beautiful.
“We’re here!” Jean called from the front seat while she got out of the car and Logan followed suit.
He grabbed his backpack (an old black bag he stitched patches onto) and followed Jean the rest of the way up the drive to two massive front doors.
Jean walked through the doorway and turned waiting for Logan as he also stepped through.
“The children are in lessons right now. I’ll show you to Professor Xavier’s office.” Jean smiled and Logan nodded his head. She showed him to an office down a hallway near the entrance and then nodded towards the door.
“I’ll be waiting outside.” Jean smiled again.
Logan grunted and opened the wooden door to the office. Behind a desk on the far side was a bald man Logan assumed was professor Xavier.
“Ah, Logan. Welcome to the school.” The professor gestured to a chair in front of his desk.
Logan placed his bag aside his seat and sat down.
“So, uhh…” Logan said quietly.
“My name is professor Charles Xavier, you can call me professor. It’s nice to meet you Logan.” The professor greeted.
“How do you know my name?” Logan suddenly realised he hadn’t told him. Wait, maybe Jean let him know in advance-
“I can read your mind.” Xavier smiled like that was normal and suddenly Logan wasn’t as comfortable in this room anymore.
“I didn’t give you permission to go into my head.” Logan got ready to stand before the professor cut him off.
“I won’t do it again, you have my word. Now, let’s discuss the details of your stay.” The professor said, looking at Logan.
“Yeah uhh, I don’t really know. Jean explained some of it.” Logan replied.
“Well, I’m sure she told you that we offer classes here at the mansion and how to control your abilities. Also, you are free to stay here all year round so don’t worry about a place to stay.” The professor placed his hands on the desk and smiled at Logan.
“And this is all for free? Why?” Obviously Logan was confused, he knows Jean told him it was for free, but he needs to check.
“I believe in a place for all mutants to stay without fear. As I am a mutant myself and I understand how difficult it is for us, the mansion is free for all.” The professor explained.
Logan was still cautious, he guesses he could stay for a night and scope out the place, make sure what the professor was saying was correct though. Still, he seemed like a nice guy..
“Yeah I guess I can stay for a while.” He admitted.
“That’s great news Logan! I’m so happy to hear that.” The professor smiled kindly and wheeled his wheelchair round the desk next to Logan.
Logan looked at the man and managed a slight smile.
“May I ask how old you are Logan?” Xavier asked politely.
“15.”
“Thank you Logan, I’ll show you to your room now so you can get settled before the rest of the children get back and I can introduce you to everyone.” The professor said before Logan nodded and grabbed his bag. He opened the door for himself and the professor and waited for Xavier to wheel through before following behind him.
Jean was still outside waiting when they got out and she grinned when the professor nodded at her. She followed them to the elevator and the three of them went up to the second floor where Logan guessed the bedrooms were.
“You’ll be sharing a room with two boys your age named morph and Wade.” The professor explained as he wheeled down the corridor.
He has to share with two other kids? At least they aren’t younger than him. He hates babysitting.
Logan nods his head and follows quietly. He should be thankful he has a bed at least.
The professor stops outside a door and Jean opens it for them. Logan steps inside and looks around.
“This will be your bed. You can put your backpack on it for now” Jean pointed to a bed in the corner. The room was pretty simple, just three beds lined against the furthest wall with Logan’s being at the end and three sets of drawers on the opposite side.
Obviously the room was pretty decorated, seeing as two kids already lived there. There was posters on the walls above two of the beds and clothes on the floor. There was also a small tv with a video game console on the floor against one wall. It was messy though.
Logan tossed his backpack onto his bed as jean brought over a small box of items.
“Here’s some toiletries and some spare clothes until we have time to go shopping for anything you’ll need!” Jean said kindly.
“Thanks.” Logan took the box from her hands and placed it next to his backpack on the bed.
“Feel free to have a shower or anything and get settled in before you meet the rest of the children, the bathrooms are just at the end of the hallway.” The professor spoke and Logan thanked him again before him and Jean left the room, leaving Logan on his own.
Logan sighed heavily and sat down on his bed with a thump. Damn he was tired.
He thinks that the professor and Jean are nice. Trustworthy. Hopefully this place could be good for him for a while.
Logan stood up again and grabbed some toiletries like shampoo along with a towel and a clean t-shirt from the box Jean gifted him and headed out of his room.
He found the bathrooms easily enough. There was one room with toilets and sinks and another room next to it with showers. Logan spent about thirty minutes under the hot water before finally stepping out and changing. He wore the same jeans he had on before but with the plain grey t-shirt he was gifted. He dried his hair as well as he could with the towel but he didn’t really care about how it looked.
He trudged back to his shared room where he put his things away but he kept his backpack next to his bed with his most precious belongings, e.g his cigarettes and a picture of him and victor before flopping down on his duvet and laying his head back against his pillow.
Logan wasn’t sure how long he had before he was forced to socialise with other kids but he decided a quick nap wasn’t a bad idea. He closed his eyes and fell asleep relatively quickly.
—————————
Knock, knock.
Logan cracked one eye open and glanced toward to door to see Jean standing in the doorway.
“I hope I didn’t wake you up! I just came to collect you to introduce everyone downstairs.” Jean explained as she walked inside his room.
“It’s alright. I’m coming.” Logan ran a hand through his hair as he got up and followed Jean outside.
This time they took the stairs down since they weren’t with the professor and headed toward the dining room.
Apparently the children had just come back from school and were grabbing snacks and what not from the kitchen.
“Try not to be scared, they can be quite overwhelming sometimes. You’ll also meet the other teachers here too and I’m sure you’ll get along with everyone!” Jean grinned as they passed the hallway and into the dining room.
Logan was immediately hit with the noise of kids shouting and talking over each other and he resisted the urge to cover his ears. He was kinda sensitive to loud noises and damn, these kids were loud.
As Logan stepped in behind Jean, everyone turned toward him and cut off their conversations. Logan glanced around and he saw the professor wheeling toward them from the kitchen.
“Everyone, meet Logan, our newest student!” The professor introduced him loudly and stopped beside Logan before glancing up at him.
“Hey.” Logan responded dryly, he honestly couldn’t be bothered to deal with all these people right now. He wanted to go back to sleep.
All eyes widened and all at once the kids ran over to Logan, bombarding him with questions he couldn’t hear since they all talked over each other.
Do they have to stand this close? Logan brought one hand up to his ear as the noise was starting to really get to him.
“Now children. Please refrain from talking over one another.” The professor corrected.
“How about everyone introduce themselves one at a time ok?” Jean suggested from her place beside the professor. She gestured to the smallest girl on the end.
“Hi! My name is kitty! It’s nice to meet you! I like your eyebrow piercing, is it real?” Kitty beamed.
Uhh-
“Hi, yes it’s real.” Logan responded coolly. This kitty girl sure was energetic.
“Woah, cool!” She grinned and nudged the boy next to her.
Logan managed a half smile, she seemed sweet. Obviously the youngest kid here, maybe around 11 years old.
Next was the youngest boy next to her who was- blue? Yeah, the kid was bright blue and furry. Interesting.
“Hey dude! I’m Kurt, cool to meet you!” The fuzzy blue boy grinned at him the same as kitty. He looked the same age as her too.
Logan noticed the kids tail too, kinda cool.
Next was a girl with white and brown hair stood next to a boy the same age, they looked around 13 years old he thinks.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Rogue and this is Bobby!” Rogue smiled and glanced at Bobby who said a quick hi and waved at Logan to which he waved back.
Then Logan turned to the two oldest kids who he guessed were the ones he was sharing a room with. Both of the kids were- interesting looking.
“Hey, I’m Morph, it’s-” The boy with white eyes introduced before the kid next to him interrupted.
“Hii! I’m Wade! Great to meet you, Logan!” He said quickly. Logan noticed the scars across the boys skin and noted the beanie he was wearing on his head.
“Sure yeah, nice to meet you.” Logan nodded at them all.
Jean walked up quickly before anyone could say anything else. “Now guys, please go upstairs and do your homework and get ready for dinner alright?” Jean said as she ushered the children upstairs with her, ignoring the few moans from some.
They all headed out of the room and once Logan was alone with the professor he felt more relaxed. It was way quieter now.
As Logan turned towards him, a man with red glasses walked through the doorway, followed by a tall woman with white hair.
“Ah, Scott, Ororo. This is Logan.” The professor smiled.
“Logan, this is Scott and Ororo, they are old students of mine, now teachers here at the school.” He nodded to both of them.
“Hey kid, it’s nice to meet you.” Scott, Logan presumed, held out his hand and Logan gave a firm shake which Scott grinned at.
“Hello Logan, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Ororo nodded at him and Logan nodded back.
“Scott and Ororo will be teaching you for some of your lessons here.” The professor looked at the two adults.
“Yeah, you can start classes as soon as you’re ready!” Scott said enthusiastically. Logan wasn’t too sure about the classes, he’s always hated school and he also kinda dropped out of it.
“We’ll leave you to get settled in now, see you at dinner Logan.” Ororo smiled before her and Scott walked past them both towards the kitchen area.
“How do you like the school so far?” The professor asked Logan while wheeling out of the dining room.
“Yeah it’s fine. Big.” Logan replied and followed along beside the professor.
“Yes, it is quite big. You’ll get used to it though.” The professor stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
“How about you get to know your roommates more before dinner. It’s at 6pm so be down for then.” He said before wheeling away, leaving Logan to go upstairs.
He sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair before he decides to go up. Logan climbed the stairs and walked along the hallway until he reached his room and stopped outside.
He didn’t really know what to expect with morph and wade. They seemed nice enough, but Logan hasn’t spent enough time with them to form an opinion yet.
He took one last deep breath and opened the door.
“Hey dude!” Wade called out as Logan stepped inside the room.
“Hey.” Logan replied.
Morph grinned at him and Logan gave a small smile back as he walked over to his bed. The two other boys were playing a video game on the floor where Logan saw the tv earlier. Logan wasn’t interested in games and to be honest he didn’t even know how to play.
“We only have two controllers but you’re welcome to have mine after this round!” Wade turned towards Logan before looking back at the screen.
“Nah, I’m good.” He replied and sat down on his bed. He could really use a cigarette right now.
“You guys care if I smoke?” Logan asked while reaching for his backpack from the floor.
Morph turned around “Nah it’s fine, but you gotta be sneaky about it. Me and Wade have gotten caught a couple times and it’s not fun having to deal with Scott telling you how disappointed he is.” Wade laughed at that.
“..Right, you want one?” Logan took out the pack and offered one to them both.
“Yeah, sure.” Morph answered as he paused the game and got up off of the floor. Wade nodded and followed him over to Logan.
Wade pulled out his lighter and they sat by the open window above their beds.
“So, where are you from?” Wade asked Logan as he took a drag on his cigarette.
“All over the place, never really had a home.” He answered truthfully. “What about you guys?”
“Canada, but I was always on the move after those assholes fucked up my face.” Wade replied and Logan didn’t ask.
“Same as you.” Morph sighed.
Logan hummed as he took a drag from his cigarette, exhaling deeply afterward. “You guys like this place?”
“Yeah it’s good, teachers are nice, the kids are nice. You’ll fit in nicely.” Morph smiled.
Logan nodded and stubbed out his cigarette before standing up.
“We should show each other our powers!” Wade suggested as he also stubbed out his cigarette before getting up.
“You sure you wanna do that Wade?” Morph questioned and got up aswell.
“Yeah no problem!” Wade said as he turned to Logan expectantly.
“Sure I guess.” He shrugged. “Who’s first?”
“I’ll go!” Wade said and took what Logan thinks is a switch blade out of his pocket and flipped it open.
“What are you-“ Logan didn’t get to finish as Wade cut a line across his palm and Logan watched as it instantly regenerated.
Holy shit! This guy has similar powers to him, that’s cool- but also kinda creepy.
“That’s.. wow.” Logan was impressed.
“Yepp! Now who’s next?” Wade looked toward morph expectantly.
“Okay, Watch this!” Morph grinned and looked at Wade.
What the fuck. One moment he was himself and then suddenly he was literally Wade. Face, clothes, everything.
“Shit! That’s terrifying.” Logan raised his eyebrows as morph laughed loudly and switched back to his normal self.
“It comes in handy when scaring the living hell out of Scott.” Morph grinned.
“Yeah I bet.” Logan shook his head slightly.
“Your turn Logan!” Wade exclaimed, stepping closer him.
“Yeah ok.” He replied. He took a breath and suppressed a wince as he unsheathed his metal claws. He watched as Wade and Morphs eyes grew wider and grinned.
“Awesome!!” Wade yelled, “Is it both hands or just this one?” Logan responded by unsheathing the claws on his second hand too. He chuckled as Wade grew more excited.
“That’s pretty cool! Does it hurt?” Morph almost reached out to touch them by stopped himself.
“Mhm, yeah I guess.” Logan replied and shrugged. It did hurt, every time.
Logan sheathed his claws with furrowed brows and smiled slightly. “I also have a healing factor, same as Wade.”
“WHAT! you get a healing factor like me but also claws! And no messed up face! This ain’t fair…” Wade gawked and frowned but lightened up when morph bumped his shoulder.
Logan laughed slightly, yeah he can see what Wade means although Logan shivers slightly when he remembers how he got the metal claws.
Someone knocked on the door then and the three of them turned around to see Scott stood there.
“Dinner time guys, come downstairs alright?” He said before raising a brow at the faint smell of cigarette smoke lingering in the room. “Hey-“
“Yep! Coming now!” Wade shouted a bit too loudly before sprinting past Scott with Logan and morph right behind him.
Scott sighed and shook his head.
