Compost

Summary:

Mango and Kiwi learn about compost when taking the fruit scraps to the garden. (#TLFW25)

Notes:

Inspired by the Peppa Pig episode of the same name which aired 3 days before my 9th birthday. Here, Mango and Kiwi learn about compost, just like in the Peppa Pig episode, and it looks like that Papa's Bakeria is getting an early taste of Tutti Frutti filling this year before the new year starts!

Enjoy this fun little Lalaloopsy story about compost!

Work Text:

The episode started with a shot of Mango Tiki Wiki's island home, where Laura was peeling fruits such as mangoes, kiwifruit, bananas, oranges, and even lychees, and placing the peeled fruits in a bowl while leaving the scraps behind. "Laura is making tutti frutti pie filling to bring to Papa's Bakeria," I narrated. "Laura, can I help?" Mango asked as she watched. "Thank you, Mango. Can you clear away all these fruit scraps?" Laura asked. "Okay!" Mango answered, as she picked up all the scraps and were about to put them in the trash can. "Stop, Mango! Fruit scraps don't go in the normal bin, they go in this brown bin," Chloe said as she showed Mango to a brown bin of fruit scraps. Kiwi picked up a banana peel from the bin. "That's right, Kiwi, it's a banana skin, and there are mangoes, and kiwis, and all sorts of fruit and vegetable leftovers in here. Lavender and Petal will like these," Chloe said. "Do Lavender and Petal eat mango peelings?" Mango asked. "No, Mango," Laura answered as she giggled. "They're for the garden in Lalaloopsy Land's green field. They help the plants grow," Chloe added.

Mango and Kiwi got in Chloe's Papa Louie go kart and Chloe drove them over to the green field. "Chloe, Mango, and Kiwi are taking the fruit scraps over to Blossom and Petal Flowerpot's house. Though I have to wonder where Blossom is," I narrated. "We are here!" Chloe said as she arrived. "Hooray!" Mango and Kiwi said as they hopped out of the go kart, with Mango holding the bin of fruit scraps. Lavender was shown digging a hole in the garden. "Lavender, we've got a special present for you!" Mango said as she and Kiwi approached. "Ah, fruit scraps! Fantastic! The garden will love these!" Lavender said as she took the bin. "Does the garden eat fruit?" Mango asked. "No, Mango. These peelings are for my compost heap," Lavender answered. "What's that?" Mango asked. "I'll show you," Lavender answered, as Mango and Kiwi followed her.

"Here it is!" Lavender said as she showed a wooden crate. "It's a wooden box," Mango said. "Yes, Mango, but it's a very clever wooden box!" Lavender said as she opened it up to reveal other fruit scraps that were put in there earlier. "I put these fruit scraps in the top, and then out of the bottom comes lovely rich earth, called compost," Lavender answered as she showed how the compost is made. "How does it do that? Is it a magic box?" Mango asked. "Ha ha, no, Mango! I've got some little friends that give it some help!" Lavender answered. "Where?" Mango asked. "In here! Look!" Lavender answered, as she showed Mango the lavender colored worms inside the crate. "Ah, wriggly worms!" Mango said as she saw the worms in action. "Wiggle! Wiggle!" Kiwi said as she watched. "The worms turn all the fruit scraps into compost," I narrated.

"Lavender, can we find more wriggly worms for your compost heap?" Mango asked. "What a good idea!" Kiwi answered. "Come on, Kiwi, let's find more wriggly worms!" Mango said as she and Kiwi went over to a purple paint puddle and started digging to look for the right colored worms for Lavender's compost heap. "A wriggly worm!" Mango said as she got out a worm from the puddle. "Wiggle! Wiggle!" Kiwi said as she took out a worm too. "You're a wriggly worm! You're a wriggly worm! How do you do? I love you! You're a wriggly worm!" Mango said as she and Kiwi approached Lavender, who giggled at the song Mango made up. "Ha ha! Well done!" Lavender said. "Be a good wriggly worm and turn it all into compost!" Mango said as she and Kiwi dropped their worms in the crate, as Lavender, Chloe, Mango, and Kiwi all giggled.

"Then, I can use the compost to..." Lavender said. "I know, I know! You put a seed in the ground, cover it in compost, and it grows into a tree!" Mango said, finishing Lavender's sentence. "Ho ho, yes, Mango! And speaking of trees, we better go and help Petal! She's collecting fruit in the orchard!" Lavender said, as Mango and Kiwi followed. "What's the orchard?" Mango asked. "It's where you find fruit trees. This orchard's been in Lalaloopsy Land ever since its inception," Chloe answered as they giggled a bit. A little bit of walking later, the three approached Petal Flowerpot, who was near an apple tree. "Hello, Petal!" Mango said. "Petal!" Kiwi said. "Are you going to help me collect some apples?" Petal asked. "Yes, Petal!" Mango answered.

Mango and Kiwi jumped up to try and get the fruit, but couldn't reach the tree. "Oh, the apples are too high up!" Mango said. "Don't worry, Mango. Lavender and Petal have a little trick to collect the apples," Chloe said. "Everybody, hold on to the tree!" Lavender said, as the group of five all started holding the tree together. "On the count of three, shake the tree as much as you can!" Petal said. "One, two, three!" the five all counted together, as they started shaking the tree, while the theme song for the upcoming series, Weather Hunters, could be heard in the background. As they were shaking the tree, the tree started raining apples. "It's raining apples!" Mango said as she watched the apples fall down the apple three and onto the grass. Mango and Kiwi giggled throughout the sights of this.

An apple fell on Lavender's head and Lavender was able to catch it in time. "Petal, can we have an apple please?" Mango asked. "Of course, Mango," Petal answered as she gave Mango and Kiwi apples. Mango then bit into the apple and gave it a try. "Mmm! Delicious!" Mango said after eating up the apple. "And can you guess what we do with the apple cores?" Lavender asked. "Uhh..." Mango said as she thought about an answer. "Wiggle wiggle!" Kiwi said, as she went and threw the apple core in the compost bin. "That's right. The apple cores go into the compost for the world," I narrated. "Clever Kiwi," Lavender said. "I'm clever, wiggly worms, too," Mango said, as the Lalaloopsies all shared their laugh together, as this episode ends right here.
