Care

Summary:

"Ori did not care that it was pouring rain, nor that he might catch a cold from waiting above ground. It had been months; days, nights and weeks of missing his One, wishing Fíli had been home.

Fíli was the King Under the Mountain though, and therefore there were duties he had to attend to that did not involve staying put. Sometimes Ori could go, but other times, it was best he remained in Erebor, to rule in Fíli's stead. So, this most recent diplomacy trip that was what Ori had done. However, he had more than enough of his husband not being home anymore.

At first sight of Fíli, Ori's heart swooped. He remained near the front gates though, because it looked like the King was leading the charge atop his pony, urging it on at breakneck speed. He was still a little way off though, so Ori stayed up on the battlements, waiting.

As Ori watched Fíli's approach, droplets of water began to fall, which was just their luck."

OR; Ori missed his husband and got sick for his troubles.

Work Text:

Ori did not care that it was pouring rain, nor that he might catch a cold from waiting above ground.

As Ori watched Fíli's approach, droplets of water began to fall, which was just their luck. He reached forward, and clutched the wall, hoping that with this added problem, it would not slow them all down.

A measured voice cut through the air.

"Your Highness, perhaps you might like to wait in-"

"No, I would not," Ori said, primly.

He afforded the well-meaning guard who had spoken up a stern look, then clutched his fur-lined coat Fíli had commissioned for him tighter around his body, as he waited for the King to finally be home.

The rain, as it was, continued to strengthen, and Ori grimaced as he saw the procession slow. Ponies could be severely harmed if they didn't, never mind their riders.

Fíli was so close, Ori could almost feel the furnace of heat that was his husband engulfing him in a warm, firm hug. The coat surrounding him paled in comparison to what it felt like to be held in the former's strong arms. Meanwhile, he could just smell the scents that were distinctly Fíli, too; citrus and smoke.

To say Ori was more than ready was an understatement.

However, safety of the King and those who accompanied him took priority over anything else.

So, Ori stood there waiting, as he only would for one dwarf in particular.

Eventually, the rain was so bad he couldn't even see the familiar, and well-loved flaxen hair. Still, Ori made his way down the steps carefully, to at least stand in the entry way of the gate of their kingdom. He would be sopping wet later and have to stand beside the fire or cover himself with Fíli alongside numerous furs, but he did not care.

Soon, after avoiding being fussed over by the many guards who were nearby, wishing he would simply be just a bit more careful, Ori was standing in the entry way.

Through the downpour, he could eventually hear the pounding of hooves, and his heartbeat picked up even more.

Ori could wait no longer. He knew Fíli had been at the head of the party, and so despite errant calls requesting he step back into the safety of the entry way, Ori stepped out into the pouring rain, seeking his husband.

A pony came to stop shortly beside him, and then there was a blond-haired dwarf in front of Ori, smiling through stringy, wet hair, with bright blue eyes.

"Fancy seeing you here," Fíli said, a large smile on his face.

Ori laughed, then wrapped his arms around Fíli's neck, as the general chaos of others coming to a halt all around them occurred. The king wrapped his own arms around the former, while lifting him up with his embrace. Ori secured himself by his legs locking around Fíli's waist, and soon their lips were pressed against each other's, as they hadn't been for far too long.

Rain pelted down on them, but still Ori did not care. Fíli was finally home, and so he would endure the biting cold and the freezing rain for just a bit longer.

Hours later, Ori did care.

He cared a lot in fact, as he was snuggled under a truly obscene number of furs that Fíli had personally had a hand in procuring for their bed. Between his hunting trips with Kíli and Dís, as well as the occasional one with more members of the line of Durin, when Thorin and Bilbo made the journey to visit every so often from the Shire, they had many. All that were available were currently stacked atop Ori, who was cold, and in need of many more hours of sleep, as well as broth and some warm tea.

"You know, I would have been just as happy to see you and kiss you beneath the mountain. You needn't have stood out there so long," Fíli said.

"Don't remind me," Ori grumbled, as he accepted the mug of tea Fíli held out to him.

"I missed you, too, though, if that's what worried you, Amrâl."

Ori took a healthy gulp of the soothing beverage, grateful to taste the freshly squeezed lemon and honey, as they slid down his throat.

"I wasn't worried. I just couldn't wait any longer. It's been months," Ori said.

He tried not to whine, but he just barely avoided doing so, really.

Fíli smiled, as he came to sit down on the edge of the bed. He took the mug out of Ori's hands, once his husband had finished drinking the tea in full. Afterwards, Fíli leaned down and pressed a kiss against Ori's forehead, before setting the cup aside on a nightstand.

"I know. It was a long time. I'm glad to be home now, even if you look like a drenched puppy, fresh out of the lake."

Ori glared, then began coughing.

A large, warm hand came behind his back and rubbed against it slowly, which soothed his chest for a time enough to allow his body to stop the wracking gesture.

Ori cleared his throat, then said, "Thank you, for taking care of me. I'm sure that's the last thing you wanted to do, once you got home."

Fíli shrugged.

"I don't mind."

Ori smiled, then tugged on Fíli's left arm.

"Join me, please? I need your body next to mine."

"The pile of furs on top of you isn't enough?" Fíli asked, amusement and worry both evident on his face before he began readying himself to join Ori in bed.

"They are, but I missed you quite a lot. I don't so much need your heat, as I do your arms around me."

Fíli smiled softly, then nodded.

"Alright. Well, when you put it like that," Fíli said, then Ori was surrounded by even more warmth, and a firm body holding him close.

Once they were properly settled together, Ori murmured, "I love you, Fee."

"I love you, too," Fíli said.

A kiss was pressed to Ori's head, then he heard, "Now, get some sleep. You won't get any better without more rest."

"As the King commands," Ori murmured softly, then drifted off, nestled in love and warmth only Fíli could provide him with.
