Simon J Paladino, smiled as he put on his suit. Looking at the mirror he knew that today was going to be a good day. Simon headed off to a small cafe near his apartment building. Simon planned out that he would take 25 minutes to have breakfast and then take 25 minutes to get to the NSA Law building. He had to make sure that he has 10 extra minutes to clean up, and just have extra time in general.

Simon walked in and waited to be seated since the cafe looked extra busy today.
“This might mess with the timing,” Simon tapped his feet.
The cafe was bustling around one table, Simon-- didn't give a fuck. He just looked annoyed because his schedule might get changed.

“Sir?” a lady tapped on his shoulder

Simon quickly whipped around, looking at the women.

“Yes?” Simon sighed.
“I can guide you to your seat if you want,” she smiled at him.

Simon followed the waitress and tried not to stare at her. He thanked her as she took his order to the kitchen. Simon looked back at the crowded table, which wasn't too crowded now.

There sat supers, not the ones he normally knew from his attorney job. These guys were the real deal, the quote on quote strongest ones.

Simon’s eyes started to glow red and get hot, he quickly shook his head to look at the menu. Simon sighed, rubbing his eyes.

But there at that table, someone was looking at him, Mr. Incredible.
“Hey I've seen that guy before,” Mr. Incredible nudged his head towards Simon.
“So what?” Gamma Jack replied to him, while burning salt grains.
“His eyes glowed red, I saw when he was looking at us,” Mr. Incredible said, pointing at his eyes.
“Do you think he's a super?” Frozone asked, glaring at Gamma Jack.
“Well he has powers but he's not a superhero, for now I think,” Mr. Incredible replied.
“So where did you see him from?” Frozone asked.
“The NSA Law department,” Mr. Incredible recalled.
“Well that's just interesting, I can probably get him to do my taxes,” Gamma Jack chuckled.

The waitress walked up to the group asking if they wanted to order anything else. They all said no,
“I do have a question for you though,” Mr. Incredible asked the waitress.
“Do you happen to know that man sitting over there?” Mr. Incredible pointed at Simon.
“Um no, do you want me to tell him that you wanted to talk to him?” the waitress asked with a smile.
“Yes please,” Jack replied quickly.

The waitress quickly hustled away to Simon's table, clearly with his order in her left hand. As the guys started to argue with each other.
“Okay so we have a coffee and 1 cream and a buttered toast,” the waitress set down the food.
“Thank you--” Simon looked at her name tag.
“Thank you Olivia,” he smiled and quickly looked away after.
“Sir, those uh people wanted to speak with you,” she smiled and pointed at the group of supers.

Oh great Simon thought to himself, one of them probably caught him staring or something.

Simon looked over and there was Mr. Incredible, Frozone and Gamma Jack. Mr. Incredible waved towards him and Simon waved back slowly.
“Do you think he's going to come over?” Frozone asked, seeing that Simon looked away.
“Probably not,” Mr. Incredible sighed.
“No need to push right?” Frozone said stacking up the plates.

The supers had left and Simon tried not to think about the weird interaction. Simon had thought of becoming a super, afterall he did have superpowers. But he just thought that kind of life wasn't for him. He bit into his toast, and continued with his schedule.

Simon got out of the taxi and thanked the driver with a tip. Simon hustled into the building, trying to make sure he got there early.
“Hi Susan! Could you check me in?” Simon walked up to the front desk.

Susan gave him a thumbs up as she looked like she was busy typing. Simon walked off to his pod and logged into his computer. Simon just ran around during the day, getting client files, meeting clients and dealing with new cases. By the end of the day he was drained, but that's how he liked his days. By 10:00 PM, Simon had started to clean up to leave for the day. And out walked a blond guy, right after Simon had left.

Jack, in his normal identity, walked away to the nearby bar.
“Hey, can I use the phone?” he blinked slowly at the hostess. Flashing a smile that would make any women swoon. She smiled at him and nodded as Jack walked behind the hostess to get to the phone.

“Parr residence,” the caller said, shuffling around.
“Incredible,” Jack groaned.
“Ah, Gamma Jack!” Mr. Incredible exclaimed.
“Why did you tell me to follow this Simon guy? He is so boring,” Jack complained.
“Well we (him and Frozone) wanted to come with you but you said you didn't want us to know your secret identity,” Mr. Incredible rambled.
“Yeah because I care about my personal life, you go around telling every super you see that you're Bob Parr,” Jack mimicked him.
“Well did you find anything?” Mr. Incredible asked.
“No nothing, other than he's defending Hypershock,” Jack played with the phone wire.
“Thanks Jack, now I need to get going!” Mr. Incredible said as the line cut.

Jack groaned, and walked back up to the hostess.
“Can I just go sit in the bar?” he asked her.
“Yeah, you can!” she replied as other customers came in.

Jack made his way to the bar and he started to chat up a woman near him.

Simon ruffled his hair and put his suitcase on the table. He sighed, and walked to his room. Going to the bathroom and taking a shower. Then he went to sleep at 11:30 PM.

Tomorrow played out the same, about the whole week was the same actually.

Until the morning of April 29, 1946, the day started the same, other than he won the case he recently had (Hypershock V Sticksville). Simon smiled since he was probably going to get a bonus from the NSA for his work. He ordered his usual coffee + 1 cream and buttered toast. He looked at the newspaper saying “Hypershock wins the case! Congrats to him and his attorney Simon J Paladino!”

Olivia came to him with his order,
“Sir, those guys want you to go to their table to talk,” she smiled.

Simon looked at the group, they all waved like they were trying to get him to join them. Well by everyone waving he meant Mr. Incredible and Frozone. Simon sighed and got up. He walked to the table where Mr. Incredible, Frozone and Gamma Jack sat.

“Hello, I heard you guys wanted to talk to me--” Simon asked nervously.
“Yeah we did, why else would we ask the waitress to--” Frozone smacked Gamma Jack on the back before he could finish.
“Yeah we did want to talk to you,” Incredible said, as Jack and Frozone started to fight in the background.
“And why's that?” Simon scratched his neck, quickly looking away before his laser activated.

“That's the reason, you have superpowers,” Mr. Incredible said.
“What no I don't,” Simon responded quite fast.
“I saw your eyes glow red last week, and I assumed you had powers” Mr. Incredible took a sip of his coffee.
“I think you--” Simon got cut off.
“Look dude you clearly have powers and you keep shifting your eyes everywhere,” Jack interrupted.

Mr. Incredible and Frozone glared at Jack.
“What? He's just rambling, he clearly doesn't want to be a super!” Jack groaned rather loudly.

People looked at the table, but realizing that they were supers thought nothing weird of the conversation.

“Keep your voice down Jack!” Frozone scolded him.
“Fine, fine!” Jack groaned, laying back into his seat.
“So are you gonna ask this nerd why he doesn't want to be a super?” Jack threw paper towels in the air, and then disintegrated them.
“Hush Jack, but in all seriousness, why don't you want to be a super Simon?” Mr. Incredible looked at the flustered Simon.

“I just don't think that I would fit into that life,” clearly not defending his I don't have superpowers ploy.
“And how did you know my name?” Simon asked nervously.
“Simon J Paladino, Pro-bono lawyer,” Mr. Incredible said.
“Um yeah-- How do you know that information,” Simon took a step back.
“Well you defended Hypershock, and won the case,” Mr. Incredible pointed at the newspaper.
“Oh yeah,” Simon smiled slightly.
“He recommended you to all the supers, when he was finally not drunk,” Frozone added.

“Anyways, you should totally become a super!” Mr. Incredible said excitedly.
“Yeah I don't think so--” Simon sighed.
“Why not? What's your powers?” Incredible leaned in.
“I can shoot laser beams out of my eyes,” he rubbed his face blushing a bit.
“You could totally be a super!” Mr. Incredible said.
“Well maybe,” Simon started to consider it.

The supers left as Simon sat there wondering, then he was at his office still wondering, and then he was in his bed finally making a decision.

“I should become a super,” Simon yelled, getting up dramatically. It was past 11:30, Simon groaned covering his face knowing he had gone past his usual REM cycle.

4/30/1944
7:30 AM
Location: Signal Apartment Complex: Apt Number. B9

Simon woke up more groggy than usual, he got out of bed and brushed his teeth, washed his face and got dressed. He smacked his face in front of the mirror, and sighed. Simon walked out of the bathroom and into the living area, and grabbed the phone.

“Hello NSA Law Department Manager speaking,” a man said picking up the phone.
“Hello Sir! This is Simon J Paladino, I'm here to ask about my paid days off?” Simon quickly got the words out of his throat.
“Yes, Simon I can check on those for you,” the manager started to type.

Simon was hesitant on this decision, after all he has never missed a day of work. Not even when he was sick, whenever he was sick he would just wear a mask and not meet clients. But that doesn't mean he didn't go to work.

“Okay Simon it says you have 10 days of paid sick leave,” the manager said.
“Did you want to use it?” he continued.

Simon panicked for a second, did he want to use it???

“Yes, can I use 3 of them including today,” he blurted out.
“Do you have any client meetings today?” The manager started to type really fast.
“No sir,” Simon was still shocked that he said yes to the “sick days”.
“Okay then you can take these days off, get well soon!” the manager kept typing.
“Thank you-- you too!” Simon put the phone in the phone jack.

Simon let out a deep breath, and then realized he needed to get to the cafe before those guys had left. He quickly put on his shoes, and sped walked to the cafe. He looked at his watch, it was literally only 7:50. He paused and slowed down, he didn't realize how fast the conversation actually was. Probably because he was always overthinking every tiny detail.

That didn't stop him from overthinking though, he walked into the cafe. Taking a quick glance to see if the supers were there. Thankfully they were, he was led to his seat. And Simon decided that he would let them make the first moves, to not seem desperate for the interaction.

He kept glancing over, waiting for something to happen. He ordered and tapped his foot nervously.

“Hey that Simon dude, keeps staring,” Jack pointed out.
“Do you think he wants to talk to us?” Frozone asked.
“Beats me, I literally do not care about this guy,” he bit into his sandwich and then he spat it out.
“Eugh, never order food here,” Jack groaned.

Mr. Incredible ignored Jack and answered Frozone.
“Probably, but he might want us to make the first move,” Mr. Incredible sighed.
“You gonna do it?” Frozone asked.
“Probably going to get the waitress to do it,” Mr. Incredible said as the waitress walked up.
“Are we all done here?” the waitress asked, picking up plates. With her other hand holding food.
“Yes, but who's that food for?” Frozone slyly asked.
“It's for that man over there,” she nudged her head towards Simon.
“Can you tell him we want to talk to him?” Jack finally budged in.

The waitress nodded and walked over to Simon placing his food down on the table. And clearly saying something to him and pointing at their table. Simon waved and the group smiled back. Jack obviously forced it, but the rest of the guys looked happy. Mr. Incredible gestured to him to come to the table. Simon walked towards them and greeted everyone.

“So you wanted to talk to me?” Simon asked not looking at anyone of them.
“Clearly! These goobers have been doing this for a full fucking week,” Gamma Jack smacked his head onto the table.
“I don't want to be associated with you guys,” Jack sobbed (not actually crying), his face still on the table.
“Don't mind him, he's always like-- that,” Frozone cleared his throat.
“So are you going to become a super?” Mr. Incredible looked at Simon who was concentrating on everything at once.
“Um I think I might get into it actually!” Simon said.
“Well I did just take some days off work,” Simon chuckled trying to keep the details low.

“I bet the NSA would love for you to join! I mean you kinda already work for them,” Mr. Incredible pointed out.
“Um I don't really understand how these things work though,” Simon scratched his head.
“Don't worry we’ll help you figure it out,” Mr. Incredible patted Simons back a little too hard.
“Urgh-- Thanks!” Simon coughed out

Right after Mr. Incredible ushered them into his car, Gamma Jack groaned because he gets car sick or something. After some time they arrived at a mansion, laser doors high walls. Mr. Incredible did most of the talking, Simon was just getting measured and his power evaluated for the suit. Finally he was in the suit, he stood there as the group looked at him in awe.

“You look great Simon!” Mr. Incredible cheered
“Yeah the colors really match,” Frozone grinned.
Jack kinda just put his hands up.
“Yay you look awesome” he mumbled.

Edna Mode, handed him a helmet.
“What's this for?” He put the helmet on.
“It allows you to concentrate all your power into one blow!” she exclaimed.
“Also I made you a special pair of glasses that helps you with your night vision,” she handed him a pair of glasses.
“Thank you!” Simon smiled, taking off the helmet.
“How much do I owe you?” Simon asked, looking at the glasses.

Edna was just about to say the price, when Mr. Incredible interrupted.

“The NSA will pay for it! Edna, can you give me the receipt?” Mr. Incredible chuckled.

Edna walked away to get the paper, as everyone started to talk to Simon.

“Have you thought of a name yet?” Frozone asked.
“No I haven’t,” Simon laughed nervously.
“How about Gazerbeam?” Mr. Incredible said after thinking for a while.
“Um I don't know I don't see how it fits to my whole-- vibe,” Simon sighed, not trying to be rude.
“I think it makes sense, listen, you look at people so that's the Gazer part. And you shoot laser BEAMs,” Jack explained.
“I guess that does make sense,” Simon said after really thinking about it.

The group nodded.
“Welcome to the supers Gazerbeam,” Mr. Incredible said smiling.

Chapter Text

12/2/1945
7:30 AM
Location: NSA Super Headquarters

It has been about more than a year since Gazerbeam became a super. And he seemed to already make a name for himself. Both in the super community and the outside world.

In the supers world he was the attorney that could take on their cases and held out on his own in the battle field.

On the other hand, the outside world. He was Gazerbeam one of the best supers coming, member aka leader of the thrilling three.

Yes he and his team may have had a lot of tension, but overall Gazerbeam thought they worked well together.
Simon did think that Apogee and Phylange talked to each other more than they talked to him combined. But he didn't really mind as he just tries to manage the team and get work done. They may have thought that he was bossy, but he was just trying to help without the team getting hurt.

Simon sat at the NSA building, him being early of course, he waited for Rick Dicker to give him and his team an assignment. Simon shifted uncomfortably, watching the clock tick. And then the clock melted, Simon sighed and shook his head. He grabbed the clock as Dicker walked in.

“Um sorry for the clock,” Simon said startled.
“It's fine, we have a lot of them in storage, it seems like they get broken a lot,” Rick took the clock and threw it in the trash.
“Um speaking of clocks, what time will the others get here,” Simon looked at his watch.
“It's 7:39,” Simon looked around at the barren room.
“I think I got here too early,” Simon chuckled uncomfortably.
“Seems so, that means I can give you your assignment and you can explain to your team,” Dicker took out papers from his briefcase.

Simon mumbled, because he knew that his team wouldn't take him seriously.

“Here are your documents for you and the team if the police show up,” He handed Gazerbeam a small stack of papers.

Gazerbeam looked at the files, “me, Apogee, Pylange…” he mumbled.
“Gamma Jack?” Gazerbeams' voice cracked.
“Something wrong Gazerbeam?” Apogee walked in.
“Gamma Jack is going along with this scouting,” Gazerbeam replied to Apogee.
“Yes he is, and I have more papers if you are done squabbling,” Dicker looked back and forth between different papers.

Dicker handed Gazerbeam a paper with all the NSA guidelines, common villains in the area with their weaknesses, etc.

“We can handle the scouting on our own, we don't need Gamma Jack to help else,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“I need you to keep a watch on him, he's been going against the NSA guidelines and it's getting lots of people hurt,” Dicker packed up his papers.
“And this area has been having a lot of high powered villains, so we want to keep an eye out,” he closed his briefcase.

It was hard for Gazer to rebuttal, he didn't want civilians to get hurt. But he was still going to prove a point.
The Pylange slowly walked in, trying not to seem late (1 minute). Apogee started to whisper to him, explaining the situation.

“What makes you think that he is going to listen to me?” Gazerbeam sighed.
“Don't you, Mr. Incredible, Frozone AND Jack hang out, outside of work? Dicker asked.

“What?-- Why does that matter?” Simon paused, confused.
“Tell him that if he doesn't act in line, he won't be able to join you guys,” Dick replied.

Simon looked at him, confused.
“You think that is going to work?” Simon complained.
“Knowing him, probably,” Dicker left the room.

Simon groaned, looking at the time.
“7:43” he mumbled.
“Pylange, you are late,” Simon pointed out.
“Ugh why does it matter?” Phylange tried to defend himself.
“Puctionallity, what if there's a villain and you were supposed to get here on time but you were late and we all died,” Gazerbeam scolded.
“You think that the villain is going to appear at 7:40 on the dot?” Phylange tried to reason.
“No, but it's better to get here early or on time,” Gazerbeam flipped through the villain papers.

Phylange groaned and went to talk to Apogee.
Five minutes later, someone with blond hair, a navy supersuit and a yellow cape, walked in.

“About time,” Gazer grumbled.
“Did y'all miss me?” Gamma Jack smiled.

Silence filled the room.

“Tough crowd, did Gazerbeam rub off on you guys?” Jack walked up to Apogee and The Pylange.

Jack took Apogee’s hand and kissed it, she blushed and took her hand away. Jack gave The Pylange a quick handshake, as Gazerbeam walked up to the group.

“Gamma Jack,” Gazerbeam said sternly.
“Gazerbeam,” Jack smiled, his eye twitching.
“Try to keep your powers within the NSA guidelines or I'm not helping you anymore,” Gazerbeam uttered.
“Psh, like I need your help Gazer,” Jack crossed his arms.
“You clearly needed it when you were drunk out of your mind last time,” Gazerbeam retorted.
“Don't talk about that shit, I'm talking about legal business,” Jack objected.
“Okay whatever, guys let's get going,” Gazerbeam gritted his teeth in annoyance.

The group quickly shuffled to the garage area and Gazerbeam went into the car, as Apogee and Pylange went on the motorcycles.

“No vehicle for me?” Jack stood there.
“You can drive with me, or you can fly, which I know you can do,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“Ugh I’d rather die than ride with you,” Jack recoiled.

The garage opened and Jack flew out fast. Gazerbeam rolled his eyes, and started to drive to the area. After some time, they finally got to the area.

12/2/1945
7:55 AM
Location: Municiburg City Square

Gamma Jack landed softly, stretching.
“Any villains around?” Jack asked.
“Does seem lik--” Gazerbeam got knocked out into a tree.
“Gazerbeam!” Apogee jumped up and flew towards Gazerbeam.
“I'm okay, it just knocked the wind out of me,” He got up, coughing.

Gamma Jack peeked outside of the alleyway, and saw someone flying. Well he wasn't really flying he was really getting pushed in the air.

“THEY HAVE AEROKINESIS,” Jack yelled.

“PHYLANGE, QUICKLY USE A SONIC BLAST, TO KNOCK THEM DOWN,” Gazerbeam yelling muffled.
“WHAT?” Phylange yelled back.
“SCREAM AT THE PERSON MAKING THE WINDS--” Gazerbeam yelled.
“I CAN'T GET TO THEM WITHOUT GETTING PULLED AWAY!” Phylange said, muffled.
“APOGEE USE YOUR GRAVITY ON PHYLANGE,” Simon coughed.

Apogee used her power which was weaker due to them being in a confined alley, she slowly moved out to get more sunlight.
“WOAH,” Apogee grabbed onto a pole.
But she was out in the sun, allowing her to use her ability to the fullest.

“Phylange walk out!” Apogee yelled.

The villain moved closer to the alley hearing a lot of noise. As they approached, The Phylange yelled, creating a sonic boom. The villain recoiled, falling onto the floor.

Gamma Jack slowly flew towards the villain.

“Yo it's just a kid,” He looked at the villain on the floor clearly hurt.
“Move” Gazerbeam pushed Jack.

Jack glared at Gazerbeam, thinking to himself what an asshole.

“What are we supposed to do, it doesn't seem like he hurt too many people,” Simon rubbed his cheek.
“DO YOU SEE ALL THE DAMAGE HE DID TO THE STREETS?” Jack yelled pointing at the road.

Simon looked around, everything had been flown around 1-2 miles. Gazerbeam sighed, “Hey kid.”

“I'm not a kid,” they yelled.
“What are you doing, hurting everyone and their properties,” Gazerbeam made his hand into a fist.
“I was just testing out my abilities,” they huffed.
“This is not where you test them,” Gazerbeam grunted.
“Then where do I test them, nobody lets me do anything!” they retorted.
“Clearly not in a busy street with tons of people,” Gazerbeam snapped.
“I understand wanting to test your abilities but you don't do it when you put people in danger!” he continued.
“I've been doing this for a week now, how come you and the NSA only beat me now,” they huffed.
“You know about the NSA, why haven't you joined them? Your powers are clearly very strong,” Gazerbeam scoffed.
They hesitated for a second, before saying something.

“I'm sorry,” they mumbled, giving up.
“Well, I see that you're just a kid and you don't understand this stuff,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“You should join the NSA and they will give you proper punishment, and training” he continued.
“You think they would still want me after I did all of this?” they looked away.
“If they let Blazestone it, I don't think they will have any problems letting you in,” Gamma Jack butted in.
“WOW, you're finally right for once,” Gazerbeam said, exaggerating.

Gazerbeam and Gamma Jack started to fight, as Apogee and Phylange guided the kid to the car.

“They look and act like an old married couple,” they chuckled as they walked towards the car.
“Do they?” Phylange looked back.
“You really are dense,” Apogee smiled.

12/2/1945
11:38 PM
Location: MuniBar a NSA Institute

(This is an all NSA bar btw, so it's like NSA people and supers, so that's why they are in costume).

“Heard you tried to recruit a new super today Gazer,” Frozone said.
“Oh yeah, it was just a kid trying out his powers, about 2 blocks from here,” Gazerbeam took a sip of his mocktail.
“Oh so that's what it was?” Mr. Incredible sat down.
“Nice of you to finally join us,” Frozone chuckled, pattingchuckled, patting Mr. Incredible on the back.
“Sorry, for being late, I had to catch a robber on the way here,” he sighed.
“You're always at work man,” Frozone complained.
“Pft I could be working right now,” Mr. Incredible said.
“Yeah whatever,” Frozone gulped down his drink.
“Where’s Jack at?” Mr. Incredible said after ordering his drink.
“Probably socializing with some women,” Gazerbeam sighed, finished his drink.

“Bro you're always working,” Frozone complained.
“Well I could be working right now, but guess who isn't?" Mr. Incredible remarked.

Some time passed as they kept joking with each other.

“What are you drinking Gazer? Please tell me that there is some alcohol in that drink” Mr. Incredible asked after ordering his drink.
“No it's a mocktail, and it's a Strawberry Pina Colada,” Gazerbeam retorted.
“Of course you're the type of person to get a virgin drink,” Frozone joked.
“What! I just don't like the taste of alcohol,” he sighed.
“Pft sure bud, you know what Jack got?” Mr. Incredible asked.
“Nah haven't seen him all night other than when he got here,” Frozone said moving his drink closer.
“Probably looking for a “dame”, as he would call it,” Mr. Incredible took a sip of his drink as it got placed down.
“I’d bet,” Frozone laughed.

“Are you guys talking about me?” Jack slowly slides in, clearly tipsy.
“No Jack,” Gazerbeam lied.
“Psh, shut up Gazer, you're a horrible liar,” Jack sits down next to him.

Simon did an eyeroll, he normally does those when he's around Jack. And he looked back at Mr. Incredible and Frozone deep in talk.

“You can't even take a real drink,” Jack pushed Gazer's drink down.
“Hey!” Gazerbeam jumped up, the drink spilling on him.
“Oof my bad,” Jack laughed.

Simon groaned, and asked Frozone to freeze it. Frozone did it without much thought.

“Can you disintegrate this,” Simon pointed at the ball of ice on the table.
“No,” Jack made circles around his drink rim.
“What? You literally spilled it though!” Gazer huffed.
“Yeah so?” Jack teased him.
“You made the mess, you should clean it,” Gazerbeam yelled, annoyed.
“You don't tell me what to do, I'm not one of your lap dogs from The Thrilling Three,” Jack sludged down his drink.

Gazerbeam looked at Jack in disbelief.
“What the fuck did you just say Jack?” Gazerbeam slammed his glass on the table.
“Nothing, also nice language there Beam,” Jack smirked.
“You're pushing your luck, you did fine during the scouting today, but I know you would have messed everything up if it was something more serious,” Gazerbeam snarked.
“Wow, are you still trying to boss me around?” Jack flung the ball of ice onto the ground.

Simon glared at him, his vizor slowly turning red.

“Oh wow, your gonna shoot me with those sad puny lasers?” Jack flicked Gazerbeams helmet.

Gazer sighed and took a deep breath. Quickly looking away as the red dimmed away.
“No I'm not,” Gazerbeam said, putting his head on the table.

Jack stared at Gazerbeam with the most confused face.
“The fuck was that?--” Jack thought.

“Yo Gazer, what is up?” Jack sighed, moving a little closer.
“DUDE, it's nothing,” Gazerbeam scoffed sarcastically.
“Geez that's what I get for trying to care, later,” Jack stood up.
“Hold on, you know you can't get drunk like last time,” Gazerbeam grabbed his arm.
“Get off of me, I can handle my own shit,” Jack recoiled his arm.
“I'm literally not going to defend you again!” Gazer yelled.

A bunch of people looked at them, supers, NSA people, the works. Gazer stood there, his face flushed. Jack had already walked off.

“Guys mind your business,” Mr. Incredible said, shooing people looking away.
“Something wrong Simon?” Frozone asked Gazerbeam as he sat down.
“Everything is fine, it's just typical Jack,” Gazerbeam scoffed.
“You know that's just how he is,” Mr. Incredible asserted.
“I know, but he just gets on my nerves, but it does seem like he cares though,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“That's the spirit," Frozone gave Gazer a fistbump.
“Yeah, but I think I'm going to head home, it's been a long night,” Gazerbeam stood up.
“Um sure-- If you really want to,” Mr. Incredible said.
“I do,” Gazerbeam started to walk away from the bar.

Gazerbeam sighed and waited outside for a taxi. Someone slowly walked up next to him, Gazer tried not to look so he wouldn't draw attention to himself. The woman next to him was clearly drunk.

“Pft,” the woman next to him chuckled.

Don't look, don't look. Simon thought to himself.

“Why are you in that supersuit?” her words slurred.
“Um I'm a super,” Gazerbeam avoided eye contact.
“Psh, did you know I work with supers, I don't remember seeing you,” she smiled drunkenly.
“Duley noted,” Gazerbeam said, blushing a bit.
“You went to a bar and didn't even drink?” she looked back at the bar.
“I don't like the taste of alcohol, it seems like you should stay off it though,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“What! You know what you seem like a stuck up person,” she mumbled.

Gazerbeam ignored that comment, looking at his watch.
“12:14”
Gazer sighed and looked at the lady who was fidgeting with her hands.

“Do you know where you're going?” Gazer said, breaking the silence.
“Uhhh yes--” she said awkwardly, sobering up a bit.
“Are you sure?” Gazerbeam looked at her, the moonlight bouncing off her face.
“Yes I do, I hope you have a good rest of your night, and maybe you should relax a bit,” she smiled at him and started to walk away.

Gazerbeam thought to himself, “Wait, did she need a taxi or did she just want to talk to me?” he huffed.

A taxi finally showed up and Gazerbeam walked in. He got to his apartment and soon passed out on his bed.

Simon sighed, putting down the newspaper and took a sip of his coffee. And then someone slammed down in the seat in front of him. He slowly looked up and saw Gamma Jack.

“What cha you doing Gazer?” Jack smiled at him slyly.
“None of your business--” Simon got up.
“I know you're reading this paper,” Jack took the paper and looked at it.
“And I know you're getting sued!” Simon groaned, sitting back down.

Jack burned the paper, murmuring under his breath. Things have been tense since that bar incident. But he really needed to ask Simon for a favor.

“Cmon Simon, what's with the long face?” Jack messed with his gloves.
Simon cringed at the comment.
“Is it because of what happened at the bar?” Jack groaned.
“No-- I just don't like seeing you,” Simon said bluntly.
“What! You love hanging out with the gang though! And you know who is a part of it?” Jack pointed at himself.
“Out of work you're normally tolerable, but in work and in a place with alcohol, you're not,” Simon took a bite of his toast.

“Look I'm sorry for being an asshole or whatever you think I am but I need a favor,” Jack whispered.
“Why are you whispering?” Simon asked.
“Because no one needs to hear me begging!” Jack smirked annoyed.
“Pft-” Simon chuckled.
“Cmon I need you to help with this case!” Jack pushed the newspaper back at Simon.

“It's not like the NSA is going to push this case on me anyways,” Simon grumbled.
“That's the spirit!" Jack smiled.

Simon looked away and sighed.

“Gazer!” Jack said, walking up to Simon’s office.
Simon grabbed Jack's collar.
“Don't call me that in here,” Simon glared at, but then looked away.
“My bad,” Jack sighed and plopped down on the chair.
“So we here to talk about my case?” Jack asked, looking around Simon's office.
“Yes, so it says here that you are being accused of sexual harassment,” Simon looked at the files.
“Yes sir,” Jack slightly mocked him.
“Are you sure you didn't commit this?” Simon asked.
“Bro are you serious?” Jack jumped up.
“No, sorry,” Simon chuckled slightly.
“So what really happened?” Simon turned on the recorder.

“So it was a classic day of me saving people, cars were literally flying around. And so I stopped one of them as it was about to hit someone. Then the lady literally jumped on me, and started to kiss me and stuff. I was flustered, and there were more people I needed to save so I told her to get off me! But she wouldn’t, so I landed and I pushed her off. And when I left she looked really angry, but I had to save other people and I did feel bad--” Jack gave his statement.

Simon stopped the recording and sighed. Looking at the woman's files, she had no prior cases. Simon sighed, putting the recording into the computer to make a transcript.

“Do you need me for anything else,” Jack seemed more tense.
“I have some questions, but I need to handle this,” Simon typed corrections to the statement.
“Can we uh-- hurry?” Jack stretched.
“No Jack, I can't hurry,” Simon mumbled.
“Geez why are you so angry, I didn't even do anything yet,” Jack started to yell but cleared his throat.
“My apologies, I have a headache, and I didn't want to deal with a case like this,” Simon sighed.
“Oh sorry,” Jack's eyes softened as he sank into his chair.

They sat there in silence for a while, Jack glancing up to Simon sometimes. But Simon didn't even pay attention to Jack; he was too busy writing things down.

“Um Simon?” Jack looked away.
“Yes?” Simon looked up from his computer screen.
“I kinda have to go-- I really need to get this job done,” Jack sighed.
“Yeah you can go, I really need to see these inconsistencies, I’ll interview you more later,” Simon got up.

Jack walked towards the door as Simon opened it with a keycard. Jack thought to himself, “Why the fuck is he so tall--”
Simon glanced at Jack, confused on why he wasn’t leaving.
“Jack,” Simon poked him.
“Huh?” Jack realized and slipped out of the door.
“Bye, have a good day!” Jack walked awkwardly out.
“Bye?” Simon walked back to his desk.

Simon stretched and grabbed the papers and placed them into a briefcase.

“This story has a lot of holes, and the defendant had no way to defend the claims that they made. And that is why, jury, that my client is not guilty,” Simon said.
Everyone started to murmur, Jack smiled at Simon as he approached.
“Nice work lawyer,” Jack said.
“Thank you-- super,” Simon replied.
“So um-- Do you think we're going to win?” Jack changed the subject.
“No doubt about it,” Simon smiled.
“YEAH!” Jack hugged Simon.

Simon patted his back and then Jack recoiled quickly.
“Sorry-- Reflex,” Jack said.
“Heh it's fine-- We’ll get the jury results in about 2 days.” Simon looked at a paper.
“That's cool, do you want to go out to celebrate?” Jack nudged Simon in the arm as they were leaving.
“Are Bob and Lucius coming?” Simon asked.

Jack's face dropped a bit, but he quickly smiled before Simon noticed.

“Well I wasn't planning on inviting them, but I can if you want--” Jack responded.
“I mean I heard the NSA was holding a-- Super party on Friday” Simon opened the door.
“Why does that matter?” Jack looked at Simon confused.
“UH-- I mean we don't have to invite them!” He chuckled awkwardly.
“Okay then, you could have just said that” Jack rubbed his neck.

“SO-- Uh- where is it going to be?” Simon scrambled to ask.
“I was thinking of a bar or a restaurant,” Jack said thinking.
“A bar?” Simon glanced at Jack with a raised eyebrow.
“A restaurant is fine I guess!” Jack lifted his arms.
“Yeah--” Simon looked away.

Jack flew up and waved bye to Simon. Simon waved back and watched Jack fly away.

Chapter 4: Scuffle, Shuffle

Summary:

“Why did you do that,” Gazerbeam gagged.
“That bitch deserved it,” Jack ripped out a piece of glass, wincing.
“No one deserves a death like that!” Gazerbeam breathed heavily.

Notes:

“What's your secret identity?” Those words rang in Jack's head. Does he tell him or does he not? They aren't even that close so why does he want to tell him so badly? Jack's thoughts ran in his head.

“Pft why are you asking?” Jack brushed the question off.
“I'm curious, and no reason--” Gazerbeam sighed.
“So Gazer, did anything fun happen to you?”
“Well there was a villain who was trying to kill a bunch of people with like a robot,” Gazerbeam looked away.
“Sounds fun,” Jack replied.

The food arrived and they made some more small talk. But didn't really go in depth with the conversations. Soon they left for the night.

Simon hummed to himself, and then his watch started to vibrate aggressively.
“Augh!” Simon tapped on it and looked at the alert.

Apogee’s voice came on, “GAZERBEAM-- HELP, 9 BLOCKS WEST TO WHERE YOU AR--”
Simon jumped up, pressing a button on his desk and his supersuit appeared. He grabbed it and quickly put it on (The office has walls btw). And shuffled out of the building, running west. Simon gagged as he got to where the fighting was, he saw Apogee on the ground as well as Macroburst.

“Apogee! Macroburst!” He huffed.
“We're fine! Just go help Jack!” Apogee coughed blood.

Simon scrambled and looked for Jack.
Then he saw Jack, just flying around, as a villain was terrorizing the city.
“GAMMA JACK!” Gazerbeam yelled.
“What?” Jack whipped around looking at Gazerbeam.
“WHAT POWERS DO THEY HAVE!” Gazer yelled.
“I don't know--” Jack seemed flustered.

Gazerbeam groaned and ran towards where the villain was, and he started shooting at her. She scoffed and phased through a wall.
“Intangibility,” Gazerbeam huffed out of breath.
“Jack, what are you doing?” Gazerbeam yelled as Jack moved towards the wall that she phased through.

Simon watched as Jack disintegrated the wall and grabbed the villain. She yelled and sobbed for him to get his hand off her. Jack scoffed and started to activate his gamma radiation. Gazerbeam ran into the building going up a few flights of stairs.

“Jack, stop it!” Gazerbeam said groggily.
“What?” Jack his grip loosened a bit.
The villain smirked and kicked Jack far.
Jack went through the window, glass flying everywhere, Jack slammed into the building next to them. He started to fall, but caught his balance almost when he hit the ground.
“Super strength--” Gazerbeam whispered under his breath.
“FUCKING HELL,” Jack coughed and flew back up to the building the two were in.

Jack grabbed the villain as she was fighting Gazer, she tried to kick him again. Jack took the hit, not loosening his grip. She started to struggle, and then Jack disintegrated her. Simon stood there in horror, staring at the ashes falling.

“Why did you do that,” Gazerbeam gagged.
“That bitch deserved it,” Jack ripped out a piece of glass, wincing.
“No one deserves a death like that!” Gazerbeam breathed heavily.
“Stop being such a damn baby, she literally hurt your teammate, and that kid you recruited!” Jack yelled.
“She didn't kill them,” Gazerbeam coughed.
“You know she deserved that, she hurt and killed tons of people,” Jack moved closer to Gazerbeam.
“The justice system could have given proper punishment,” Gazerbeam huffed.
“No they couldn't, someone like that deserves to die,” Jack scoffed.
“Stop! No they don't!” Gazers visor turned red.
“You can't save everyone Gazerbeam, some deserve death,” Jack reasoned.

Gazerbeam glared at Jack, his visor slowly turning red.
“How long are you going to be stuck in this illusion?” Jack yelled.

Gazerbeam punched Jack in the face. Jack recoiled from the punch, and then dodged a laser.
“Is this how you want to play it?” Jack smiled and ran towards him, kicking Gazerbeam in the abdomen, knocking the wind out of him.
Gazerbeam gasped for air.
Jack winced from the previous glass wound, pausing for a moment.
A laser beam flew at Jack, he barely dodged it as it ripped through his cape.
Jack was distracted and Gazerbeam flung himself at Jack, throwing him to the ground.

“GET THE FUCK OFF ME!” Jack wrestled with Gazer.
“WHY DID YOU KILL HER?” Gazer coughed, sounding like he was crying.
“SHE DESERVED IT SHE'S A SUPERVILLAIN,” Jack yelled back.
“DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY MORALLITY?” Gazerbeam pushed Jack's arms down.

Jack didn't respond and charged up his gamma ray. And shot it at Gazerbeams arm, he fell on the ground. Bleeding, Gazerbeam stood back up. Jack flew towards Gazer and grabbed his neck. Gazerbeam took a raspy breath, his nose bleeding.

“Why must you take justice into your own hands?” Gazer managed to say.
“Because your system doesn't do its job,” Jack gritted his teeth, tightening his grip.
“And you think yours does?” Gazer's voice cracked.

Jack's eye twitched as he dropped Gazerbeam, he fell onto the ground with a thump. Passing out due to the lack of oxygen. Jack stood over him, breathing heavily. And then he heard police sirens, Jack flew out of the broken window, breathing heavily as he stopped at the top of an apartment building.

Gazerbeam gasped as he woke up, he touched his face. Realizing he wasn't wearing his helmet. He gagged and dragged himself to the bathroom and puked. He sat there, wiping his mouth. He sobbed, he wanted to cry, he felt like crying. But his ability prevented him from forming actual tears, they evaporated every time they formed.

“Why did I do that?” Simon said to himself.
Then he heard a knock on the door, Simon stood up and dusted himself off. He walked towards the door and opened it.
There stood Jack, Simon slammed the door.
“Wait Simon--” Jack kept knocking.
“What is Gamma Jack,” Simon sighed.
“I'm here to talk to you--” Jack fidgeted.

Simon opened the door, letting Jack in. Jack sat on the chair next to the bed for visitors. Simon sat down on the bed, and sighed.
“What is it Jack?” he scoffed.
“I’m uh--” Jack mumbled.
Simon raised an eyebrow.
“I'm sorry--” Jack finally got out.

Simon gripped the wound on his arm, did he really mean it? He thought.
“Look, I'm trying to be genuine!” Jack stood up.
“I never said you weren't--" Simon said.
“But I know you're thinking I’m not! Look it's hard for me to do this stuff,” Jack rambled.
Simon felt his cheek go up, he smirked.
“Pft thanks for the apology?” Simon covered his mouth.

Jack looked at Simon like he just got punched.
“Are you going to apologize?” Jack’s eyebrow lifted.
“Why would I?” Simon stood up looking down at Jack.
“Because you punched me first,” Jack pointed at the bandage on his face.
“Want to know why I did that?” Simon looked away doing an eyeroll.
“Actually yeah I do--” Jack interrupted.
“You're acting like I didn't say the reason during the entire ordeal,” He pushed his glasses up.

Jack fumed, why did he even come here to apologize?
“But I guess I am sorry-- I might have taken it too far,” Simon sighed.
“Oh yeah?” Jack smirked.
“Yeah, BUT maybe you shouldn't have disintegrated her!” Simon flicked Jack on the forehead.

Jack groaned and touched his forehead.
“You know she deserved it!” Jack mumbled.
“Say it louder, I dare you,” Simon gritted his teeth.
“OH YEAH? You really want to go at it again?” Jack gripped his hand into a fist.
“Okay! Maybe she deserved death but she didn't deserve that kind!” Simon lashed out.

Jack looked down.
“I suppose so,” he sighed.

They stood there for a moment, in silence.
“Why have you been so angry at me?” Jack looked at Simon.
Simon paused.
“What? I haven't?--” Simon stammered.
“I feel like you have,” Jack looked back down.
“Why did you think that?” Simon asked.
“Because you always act like I'm a nuisance to you,” Jack shouted but then lowered his voice.

“Have I been acting like that?” Simon covered his mouth.
“I don't know-- I feel like you're making these small comments and like making small jabs at me!” Jack mumbled.
“Oh--” Simon sighed.
“I didn't mean too- It's just you just have this thing like you think you're better than everyone,” Simon looked away.
“That's because I am better,” Jack pointed out.
“See that's what I mean!” Simon groaned.

“Uh huh--” Jack nodded.
“Why do I even bother with you?” Simon flopped down onto the bed.
“Because I'm awesome,” Jack smiled.
“Sure keep lying to yourself,” Simon muffled his face in the bed.

Jack crossed his arms and scoffed.

“Look-- How about we make a deal?” Jack said.
“Why would I make a deal with you?” Simon coughed, sitting up right.
“Because clearly we're just going to keep fighting and the NSA is going to fire one of us,” Jack smiled innocently.
“Ugh, fine what's your deal?” Simon cleaned off his glasses.
“How about you stop being an asshole, and I'll stay off killing villains,” Jack responded.

“So you'll finally listen to NSA guides?” Simon put his glasses back on.
“Yes, if you stop being such an asshole,” Jack's smile cracked slightly.
“How come I have to make a deal for you to follow rules?” Simon hesitated.
“What else could you want?” Jack took off his gloves.
“I wanna know your secret identity,” Simon smiled at Jack smugly.

Jack felt his face go red a bit.
“What?” Jack exasperated
“Yeah I wanna know who you are Jack,” Simon raised an eyebrow, seeing that he turned a bit red.
“Puh- Uh- No!” Jack stuttered.
“Why? Every super knows mine--” Simon nagged.
“Yeah because you're everyone's LAWYER,” Jack protested.
“Pft I didn't want to be yours,” Simon chuckled.

“Why do you want to know so badly? You asked this the last time we hung out,” Jack sighed.
“Cuz apparently no one knows-- I want to be the first,”
“That's hardly a reason!” Jack yelled.
“Fine then no deal,” Simon shrugged.
“Wha-”
“Can you leave, I'm still healing from my injuries,” Simon laid down on his bed.

Jack groaned, he didn't want to hear those stupid comments from Simon anymore. He took off his mask and turned around.

“Are you happy?” Jack blushed.
“Wait who are you--” Simon jumped off his bed.
And then he fell.

“Woah are you okay?” Jack sprung to check on him.
“Yeah just fine, as I said injuries--” he picked up his glasses.
“Anyways uh-- I'm the CEO of LabsJ Inc.” Jack put his mask back on.
“Jackson Gamache?” Simon asked.
“Shshsh don't say it too loud--” Jack hushed him.

Simon burst out laughing.
“Did you really use your real name?” he chuckled.
Jack sighed and slapped Simon.
“Ugh-- What was that for!” he rubbed his face.
“For laughing at me!” Jack pushed him away.
“Sorry, I guess the deal is on though--” Simon looked away.

Simon stuck his hand out for a handshake, Jack took his hand and shook it.

“Are you still hurt?” Simon let go of his hand.
“Uh yeah-- Your lasers do a lot of damage,” Jack felt the palm of his hand.
“Look Jack I know I wasn't being really genuine earlier-- But I really am sorry,” Simon glanced at him.
“Thanks, and I know I went too far with that villain, so I'm sorry too--” Jack blushed.

“How about we start over-- As friends?” Simon asked.
“I would like that-- Since you know you could kinda doxx me whenever you want--” Jack said.
“Now uh how about we go rest a bit, we clearly have been through a lot these days,” Simon chuckled.

“You're telling me that you were trying not to get that villain killed?” Apogee yelled at Gazerbeam.
“I'm just saying that the legal system would have dealt with it!” Gazer backed up a bit.
“She broke like 5 bones in Macrobust's body and gave me a head concussion!”
“Well you're not dead are you?” Gazerbeam said.
“This isn't your call Gazerbeam! You're not in control of every battle you face!” Apogee slammed her foot down.
“I'm not saying I am! I was just trying to be reasonable!” Gazerbeam lifted up his hand.
“Ugh! You always say this! You think that you're so responsible and great, but you're not!”
“You know your the reason why Phylange quit!”
“Because you always boss us around when we can hold our own without you!”
“I know you guys can, it's just you don't use your powers responsibly--” Gazer interjected.
“You just never listen! Fine if you want to boss everyone around so much, how about you work alone!”
“What! That's not what I want!--” Gazerbeam grabbed her arm.

Apogee ripped her arm away from him and stormed out. Gazer sighed, and took off his helmet. Brushing his hand through his hair, is this what his team thought of him? He thought.

Later that day Gazerbeam was informed that the Thrilling Three was going to be disbanded.

Chapter 5: Internetwork

Summary:

Simon arrives at a super party that the NSA mandated.
The supers are made to move to a seperate room and do interviews.

Notes:

Timeskip of about 3 months. Supers are going to get banned in about 5 chapters, hope yall are ready :0.

Btw I know that the chapters are getting shorter. It's because I have less motivation and personal stuff to deal with. I will try to keep writing but I might drop this fic.

Also I am going to stop using the time stamps too much because timelines are weird but ill still include it.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Btw I know that the chapters are getting shorter. It's because I have less motivation and personal stuff to deal with. I will try to keep writing but I might drop this fic.

Also I am going to stop using the time stamps too much because timelines are weird but ill still include it.

“Why are they pulling supers into another room?” Gazerbeam walked up to Apogee.
“Well I already went in, and they just wanted to do an interview for like some files--” Apogee said annoyed.
“Oh-- Are they getting all the supers to do it?” Gazerbeam sipped his punch.
“I don't know and I don't care--” Apogee brushed Gazerbeam off and walked to Stormicide.

Gazer sighed, he looked around for Mr. Incredible and Frozone.

“Hi Gazer,” Frozone waved towards Gazerbeam.
“Hi Frozone,” he smiled.

Rick Dicker walked up to the group and pulled Frozone away.

“Uh okay then--” Gazerbeam said, confused.
“Have you done the interview yet?” Mr. Incredible asked.
“No, I think they are doing it in alphabetical order--” Gazerbeam scratched his neck.
“You know who's next?”
“I think-- Gamma Jack-”
“Oh, he's going to be talking in there forever,”

Gazerbeam snickered and they kept joking around. Gazer saw Jack getting led to the room as Frozone walked back to them.
“Well that was fun,” Frozone stretched.
“What did they ask you?” Gazerbeam asked.
“They asked me if I had any problems, as you know Frozone--”
“I think they are just asking random questions,”

Gamma Jack left the room, and made his way back to where the ladies were. An NSA official walked up to Gazerbeam and he followed them. The door clicked and Gazer sat down. He sighed and listened to the guidelines where this interview was going.

(Legit this is just Gazerbeams NSA File, if you guys have already heard it you should skip. There is just some sprinkles of stuff/)

“What's the question you get asked the most?”
Gazerbeam thought for a moment.
“I think the question I get asked most is what happened with the Thrilling Three. It was working fine for me, that I had no problem with working in a group. I think we were very successful, I think at times we may have been among the best. But a team is just that a team. Uh, and every time you take individuals and you put them in a contained environment, they tend to react like oil and water, sometimes. Or peanut butter and chocolate-- Although peanut butter and chocolate do taste good together so that's actually a bad example-- Um I quite enjoy that.”

“I think the thing that I get asked about the most of course is my laser vision. People tend to think that it's a real picnic to have eyes that shoot lasers but um. Believe it or not it has had its disadvantages. If I look at something too intently it tends to burst into flames. Which can be a real pickle in a relationship scenario, when you're conversing with somebody. A normal person can look them square in the eye-- I avert my gaze which is often (pause). Which is interpreted as disinterest, or rather daf or stupid. Which couldn't be farther from the truth I-- (Deep breath).”

I'm a man of culture, a man of passion and a man of humor which is not widely known. On the outside I appear calm and cool, perhaps even collected. But on the inside I'm defying away on the steamship of hilarity--. I'm not sure if that made very much sense.”

Gazerbeam exhaled, as he walked out of the room. Talking about himself was not something he enjoyed. He walked towards the appetizer table, grabbing a cup of what seemed to be punch. Gazer took a gulp and had the urge to spit it out. Tasted like wine, he swallowed and looked at the cup. Wanting to throw it out but he didn't want to waste it. He groaned and chugged it down.

“Hey Gazer--” Jack floated towards him.
“Bleh,” Gazer said finishing the drink, not realizing Jack was next to him.
“Rude much?” Jack huffed.
“Oh sorry Jack I didn't mean it towards you-- I was saying it to this drink,” Gazer quickly defended himself.
“Oh yeah-- Is that one of the alcohol cups?” Jack pointed at the empty cup.
“Apparently,”
“I thought you didn't drink alcohol--” Jack took his cup and disintegrated it.
“I got the wrong cup and I didn't want to waste it,” Gazer sighed.

“Psh, alcohol tastes good Gazer!” Jack took one of the cups on the table.
“Yeah tell that to him,” Gazerbeam whispered and pointed towards Hypershock walking into the interview room.
“I saw that he already had like 5 drinks,” Jack chuckled.
“Someone keep him away from here,” Everseer walked up to them.

“Oh hi Evereer--” Gazerbeam put his hand up.
“Hi Gazerbeam,”
“Hows Macroburst doing--”
“They are doing great, they are just a kid though so it's hard to keep them in check,”
“Uh huh,” Gazerbeam nodded.
“Make sure to keep Hypershock away from he--” Everseer said before getting interrupted by a bunch of slamming.

Every super turned to look at the room where Hypershock was. After a minute he stormed out and walked over to the table. Grabbing a cup and swinging it.

“Woah Hypershock I don't think you need anymore--” Gazer said.
“Back off!” Hypershock yelled at him.
“Hey calm down!” Jack interjected.
“Mind your business Gamma Jack,” Hypershock walked away.
“What a jerk--” Jack said when Hypershock was far enough.

Gazerbeam tapped his foot up and down. Jack talking to Stormicide, Apogee right next to them. He mumbled to himself, feeling his face getting hotter, due to his helmet and stress.

“I'm going to the bathroom,” Gazerbeam walked off.
Gazerbeam sighed and walked out of the stall. He washed his hands and walked out.

“Gazer” Jack seemed to come out of nowhere.
“AH!” Gazerbeam jumped back putting his hands up.
“Geez chill out--” Jack said.
“Dude you scared the crap out of me!” Gazer caught his breath.
“My bad.”
“And what is it--”
“I got Stormicide’s number,” Jack showed Gazerbeam the piece of paper.
“Wow congrats--” Gazerbeam said annoyed.

“Anyways, are you okay?” Jack asked.
“I'm fine, why do you ask?” Gazerbeam sighed.
“Because you just left to the bathroom without telling me-- I was confused where you went--”
“Uh-- I didn't know I needed to tell you I needed to use the bathroom now,”
“That's not what I mean but okay--” Jack mumbled.
“Was it Apogee?”
“Yes! I mean I don't know-- Everyone from the old team has been ignoring me, and I'm pretty sure that they're talking about me!” Gazerbeam groaned.

“Tough luck, I thought you were a great leader,” Jack adjusted his hair.
“Turns out I was too bossy, I thought that The Thrilling Three was doing great but I guess not,”
“You seem oblivious--”
“WHat--” Gazerbeam cleared his throat.
“I don't know, did you not see the signs, they were ignoring from the start, since you joined right after Dynaguy died--”
“Ugh I knew something was up,” Gazerbeam took off his helmet.

Gazer sat down on a couch and sighed. Jack floated over the couch, looking around the room.
“Why’d you take off your helmet--” Jack poked at Simon's head.
“It gets hot under there,” Simon brushed his hand through his hair.
“Lucky you-- Everyone already knows your secret identity,”
“Psh-- You choose not to share it,”
“Because I don't want hotties to be all over me when I'm not in costume,” Jack smirked.
“Yeah yeah,” Gazer smiled, doing a small eyeroll.

Notes:

PS, if yall want some official lore, you should read: A Real Stretch: An Elastigirl Prequel Story. Its mainly about Elastigirl and there are some cameos from Jack, not too much from Gazer but its really fun and yall should read it. And it gives a lot of context for certain things.

Chapter Text

Jack floated in the air, feeling the wind brush past his hair. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes. Hearing the birds chirping, softly, not the loud noises of the city that he normally heard. He could just relax, not thinking about the NSA agents that have been following him, because he was on “high alert” or something.

And then his watch started to blare green, aka high criminal alert in his area. The NSA had all the supers wear bracelets, belts, watches, etc. to inform them when there was a criminal in the area. But to Jack it just seemed to annoy him because a lot of the times the alerts happen he's just minding his business.

He tapped on the watch and looked at the dots that were moving on the map. He looked at the red, which indicated the criminal and blue dots indicated a super. Jack smiled seeing 2 blue dots moving towards the red one. That means technically, Jack didn't have to do anything, but he still wanted to see which supers were hightailing the criminal.

Jack flew down looking at the screen and moved towards the blue dots. He landed on a building and looked down and saw a pathway of ice and a fancy car down below. Jack shrugged, because he really didn't want to deal with the criminal, but he also really wanted to hang out with them.

Jack flew towards the scene and listened to the crashing of brick and concrete. Most likely the work of Mr. I, Jack jumped down and softened his landing and looked at the scene. They seemed to be done so he could probably talk without him having to do any work.

“Hey are you guys done?” Jack waved his hand towards Mr. Incredible.
Mr. Incredible pushed the criminal into a police car and it started to drive off.
“Yeah” Frozone slided towards Jack.
“What did he do?”
“He robbed a bank, jewelry shop, etc.” He started to list it off.
“Melvin?”
“No, just a small criminal, causing lots of trouble,”
“Makes sense, Melvin doesn't hang around here,” Jack floated up.
“So why didn't you get here on time? I saw you on the tracker,” Mr. Incredible walked up to them dusting himself off.
“Well I figured that you two had it under control,”

“Uh huh,” Frozone looked at Mr. Incredible.
“Yeah, anyways I'm going to head out, I have a NSA meeting,” Jack groaned.
“Why?”
“I think you know the answer,” Jack said, flying up.

After a 5 minute flight, Jack landed on the roof of the NSA Office. He saw Apogee leaning over the ledge. He knew she wouldn't fall, I mean she could control gravity and it was sunny. Jack started to walk towards her, but stopped for a second.

“Would it be weird because he and Gazerbeam were so buddy-buddy?” Jack thought.
“Nah” He walked to the ledge.

“Hi Sweetheart,”
“Oh Gamma Jack--”
“How are you doing?” He smiled at her.
“Heh, I'm doing good, how about you?” Apogee blushed a bit.
“Good too, here for a meeting,”
“That doesn't sound fun,”
“Tell me about it, I wanted to skip it but apparently it's really important,” Jack rested his head on his hand.
“Hm, anyways what time is this meeting?”
“10 minutes ago,” Jack chuckled.

Apogee laughed a bit and then pushed him to go to the meeting.
“Fine fine, I know they are waiting for me anyways,” Jack opened the door to the stairwell.
“I hope you have a great day,” Jack blew her a kiss and flew down the stairs.
“You too!” Apogee smiled.

Jack slowly stepped towards the room, his footsteps lightly echoing in the building. Mumbling to himself he looked at the room numbers and opened the door. There sat Rick Dicker. Jack grabbed the chair and dragged it out of the table, it screeching on the floor.

“Gamma Jack.”
“Yes?”
“We’re thinking of assigning you to a team,”
“What?!” Jack pushed himself on the table.
“We're thinking of assigning you to a team.”
“No I heard you but why?”
“There is no specific reason, jus--”
“So you can watch me?” Jack interrupted.
“Not in that sense, it would be used to curve your priorities,” Dicker tried to reason.
“What priorities,”

Dicker looked at him, Jack looked back giving the look that said: please explain even though I already know. It was quite awkward, them just looking at each other. As the clock above the door clicked.

“We all know your prioritizing, females,” Dicker put his hands together.
“Well I'm just saving the people I prefer to save,”
“Your supposed to save everyone you can, it's what supers are supposed to do,”
“What happened to free will?” Jack asked mockingly.
“You don't understand, you're playing with lives, people are getting killed and injured because of your actions.”
“I do understand, I just don't want to save people who won't thank me,”
“And how do you want your thanks? A little peck on the cheek? A hug that lingers a little too long?”

Jack's face slightly flushed, and then he cleared his throat.
“That would be better than no thanks,”
Dickers eyebrow raised.
“Look, these guys just have a habit to not thank me even though I save their lives,”
“Maybe because you're so unapproachable,”
“A simple thanks would work,” Jack huffed.

They argued some more.

“Fine I'll do your stupid rehab team or whatever,” Jack yawned.
“Okay then--”
“Can you please not make it some official thing like with Blazestone? Because that clearly didn't work,”

Dicker face contorted into an annoyed face.
“Yes it won't be official, now we need to talk about your partner,”
“Can I choose?”
“Well no, we already decided who would be the best pick for you.”
“Um who?”
“Gazerbeam,”

Jack slammed his head onto the table. Gosh why does it always come back to Gazerbeam?

“Please tell me there are more options,” Jack groaned.
“No, every other super wants to work alone,”
“How about Macroburst or Stormiside?”
“You know Macroburst is in a team right?”

“Yes I know Dicker, but why Gazerbeam?”
“Because, he's the one who put some sense into you--”
“No he didn't,”
“He got you to stop killing criminals,”
“Yeah he did do that but do you wanna know what else he did?”
“He started to beat me up and then the roles got reversed on him, so now let's just do that over again on EVERY SINGLE MISSION!” Jack laughed.
“We’ll inform him to not take drastic measures,” Dicker got up and started to walk towards the door.
“Great thanks Dick,” Jack said sarcastically.

“Bleh”, Jack exclaimed, taking off a piece of cilantro off his pasta.

The restaurant was busy, people actively talking, ordering. No one paid attention to the duo who were sitting in the corner booth. Well why would they? They weren't in costume.

“What you don't like a little garnish on your very specific pasta?” Simon did little hand motions towards the pasta.
“No, it tastes like soap,”
“Oh so you have that trait,” Simon took a small sip from his lemon water.
“Yeah I have that trait, and it's so annoying since Helen always puts it in whatever she's cooking!” Jack chuckled.
“I mean I understand why she does, it tastes great,” Simon looked away for a second.
“Yeah but she puts wayyyy too much in her dishes, like if it's just a little bit, I won't notice it, but when you're just throwing an entire bushel. I just can't,”
“Makes sense, but you're a picky eater, so it's hard to please you,”

“What no, I just have a refined taste.”
“You got so angry when someone gave you a burger with raw onions,” Simon took a piece of his steak.
“It overpowers the whole dish! Like all I taste is onions, they could at least cook it!”
“Your proving a point, your disliked food count is as much as your body count,”
“Depends on which one~” Jack smirked.

“Maybe working with you wouldn't be so bad,” Jack placed his fork down.
“It won't be if you just follow the rules.”
“Psh I know.”

Simon was just about to say something when the roof of the restaurant suddenly came off. The customers yelped as the manager started to yell out things that Simon couldn't quite hear. Jack glanced at Simon, seeing that he was in a daze. As they were in costume, but they really needed to act now.

“Wait, I'll contact the NSA,” Simon fumbled with his phone.
“You do that while I--” Jack glanced and grabbed the table cloth on the nearby table.

Damit, Jack wrapped the cloth around his face like a mask. He heard nearby yelling from civilians and the villain. Simon was already dealing with the NSA and Jack knew that he could handle his own. Jack ran out of the slowly crumbling restaurant as he saw the manager guiding people out.

This situation would clearly need multiple supers, Jack quickly flew to his house. Slamming through the door, he was sure people saw him but since he was covering his face they wouldn't know his identity.

Jack grabbed his suit and quickly put it on in record time. The crashing of bricks, quickly brought him back outside. He felt his earpiece and turned it on, yelling in the background.

“ALL AVAILABLE SUPERS HEAD TO MUNCIBURG, URGENT MATTER”
Those words stung Jack's ears. Jack flew towards the scene, seeing Stragogale whizz past him. Sighing, Jack arrived at the scene, and then he quickly dodged a rock flinging towards him.

“SORRY JACK,” Mr. Incredible yelled out.

Jack landed, looking for who was causing the scene. Jack groaned, flying for that long that fast took a lot out of him. He looked up seeing multiple people in black suits, all with differing powers.

“Fuckkk-- I bet one of them is Blazestone,” Jack pushed his foot backwards and lunged towards one of the people.
They swooped around but Jack grabbed them and was about to blast them with gamma radiation. But then the ground underneath Jack rose up quick enough to get Jack off the person and send him flying.

Macroburst flew up to Jack when he caught his balance.

“Everseer said that we need to take them down one by one,” Macroburst sent gusts of wind to one of the villains flying.
“Yeah it's hard when the NSA just sent us all here without a plan,” Jack coughed.
“Uh huh, is that Gazerbeam?” Macroburst flew down.

Jack floated down seeing Macroburst hug Gazerbeam.

“Jack, you just left me at the restaurant,” Gazerbeam shifted his position after Macroburst let go.
“Sorry I needed to get into my suit,” Jack said, giving a half assed apology.
“Uh huh,” Gazerbeam sighed.
“Do you guys have something going on here?” Macroburst asked.
“NO, Never urgh--” Jack quickly said.
Gazerbeam just shrugged, and ran towards Frozone.

“Okay I'm going to start doing some real work,” Macroburst flew up.
“Count me in,” Jack smiled.

Jack blasted one of the black suit people, Jack rushed towards them and punched them in the face. Then ripped off the mask, just nobody, Jack thought. It was a male, and he tried to get Jack off him to no avail. Jack just blasted him with radiation again and dusted himself off.

The ground rumbled, Jack knew what was going to happen.
“Quick everyone who can fly grab someone!” Jack quickly flew towards and grabbed Gazerbeam.

The floor beneath them slowly started to crumble, one of the office buildings that started to fall forward. Jack slowly floated down to the now crater and let go of Gazerbeam slowly onto the ground. Now that building, we gotta balance it or just destroy it, Jack thought.

SLAM
Jack jumped at the noise and saw the building fall down. He was sure that there was no one there because it was just being built, and every citizen ran away right when the villains got here. But that doesn't mean no one got hurt during the fall.

Jack was about to fly towards the damage but then he felt a sudden sharp pain. Slowly looking down, he saw a spear piercing through him. Jack coughed out blood, falling to the ground as the spear was ripped out of him. There stood a woman behind him with the metal spear floating next to her.

“Damnit..I thought we got you all,” Jack groaned, blood dripping from his mouth.
He knew he was going to black out soon, maybe even die. Gosh he had so much more he wanted to do. His vision was slowly blurring as he heard muffled yelling in the background. She had gotten away, and some of the other criminals too.

“I probably look so pathetic,”
