Chapter Text
The morning sun hands high, embracing the eastern land with its welcoming rays. An older man with denim dungarees, a white long sleeved shirt and a red checkered bandana around his neck. He is watering the plants calmly, enjoying the birds around him. After finishing, he goes to his porch, lights a cigarette and rocks softly. A silhouette of a certain creature starts solidly forming at the corner of his eyes. Even though it's a shadowy figure, he feels welcomed by it. A motorcycle passes by the road next to him.
As the morning goes on, a black haired young man is putting on his black business suit for class. He gathers his belongings in a black satchel. He takes a moment to breathe and grabs a cup of coffee to look out the window and gaze at the clear sky. A silhouette of a creature flickers in the reflection behind him. His trance is broken by a motorcyclist passing. He gulps down the drink and quickly leaves his apartment for the day.
A motorist arrives at the school parking lot. The brunette driver is wearing an olive green sundress with floral patterns and brown leather boots. She removes her motorcycle goggles to put on her glasses.
“Tay-chan!” A bleach haired woman in a white business suit approaches her.
“It's Tayumi, Yuki-san.” She corrects her while adjusting her violet bookbag.
“I'm guessing the speed date didn't go well, then.” She sighs.
Tayumi shrugs. “It was doomed to fail. It's hard to sell yourself in the time it takes to make instant noodles.”
Yuki playfully wags her finger. “Ay Tay-chan, Tay-chan. It's not about the unforeseen tomorrow, but a raw electrifying moment!”
She wipes her shoulder. “That's why I have you as my drinking gal.” She says nonchalantly. “Anyways, let's not talk about it out loud. I don't want any rumors about my love life being told by kids.” She heads inside.
When Tayumi enters her classroom, the students immediately sit down at their desks. “Good morning, students.”
“Good morning, Tayumi-sensei.” The students say in unison.
Tayumi watches for a moment, then looks at a teenage boy. “Honda-chan, did you forget to do the proper greeting again?” She says seriously. The whole room is filled with heavy tension. Honda feels his face flushed with embarrassment. Then Tayumi grins. “Hah! I'm just messing with you. I'll give you an A as an apology.” She sits on her desk. “Let's pretend the introductions went smoothly and finally get into the interesting topic.” She writes an equation on the board. “Sakura-chan, what's one plus one?”
She raises an eyebrow. “... Two?”
“Correct. Now here's the real question, why does one plus one equal two? Did we discover it underground or did we all collectively decide that the number coming after one is two?” The students look at each other with confusion. “Don't worry about the answer. The point is to be curious about everything. We all live our lives passively, that we don't stop to ask ‘why am I having eggs today?’”
A student raises their hands. “Tayumi-sensei, is it true that you don't have a husband yet?”
Some of the students chuckle. She gets red with embarrassment. “That has nothing to do with the lesson. And you're all too young to worry about adult problems!”
The classroom calms down the laughter and gets to their daily assignments. The bell rings to dismiss them. As the students leave, she notices all of them pulling out their phones and using the same app. Tayumi notices. “Honda-chan, what are you playing?”
He gets slightly flustered. “It's the new popular virtual pet app that came out a couple days ago. It's the new trend.”
“I see.” Tayumi taps her desk as the classroom becomes empty. The day drags to the afternoon and Tayumi gets ready to head home by putting on her biker goggles.
Yuki approaches her. “Tay-chan. Are you up for a drink later tonight?”
She sighs. “I got a lot of papers to grade, so I won't be making it. Maybe some other time.”
Yuki playfully pouts. “Suit yourself.” She pulls out her phone and taps repeatedly at it. “My little pet is so cute~! See?” She shows him a green creature with a red crest called Botemon. “He tells me I look lovely today! You should try it out.”
Tayumi nods. “I'll check it out when I can. Take care.” She starts driving away.
As the day starts setting, Tayumi is finishing the last of the papers for the evening. She sighs, finally relieved she's done. She prepares herself tea and goes to her backyard where she can see the man-made lake. In her peaceful moment, a silhouette of a bunny starts forming on her chair. She looks directly at it to find it empty.
She heads back inside to collect her mind. “... Maybe I'll check out what all the buzz is about.” She pulls out her phone to download the app called Digital Pet Simulator. She is about to sign, when the program starts itself without her email. “I guess they logged me through biometrics.”
Welcome back, old friend.
A message pops up and it's in AR mode where her camera is pointing against the wall.
Terriermon is happy to see your return!
The message reads, but there's nothing. She points it around the room, until she sees a bunny creature backed against the corner in fear. It's looking at a glitch in front of it.
“Wow. The models are very high quality.” Tayumi praises.
The creature looks at her. “Tay-chan! You have to help me!” He says desperately.
“And a sophisticated text to speech to make it sound like it's directly talking to the user. Fascinating.” She says with glee. The creature jumps out of the way from the glitch, a hole now appearing on her wall. “... Wait what?” She is momentarily stunned.
“Boom Bubble!” The creature shoots green bubbles at the opponent, making it recoil in pain. “You have to get out of here, Tay-chan! I'll pro-” He gets caught off, by the glitch grabbing by his head and smacking him against the wall, creating another hole.
Tayumi is panicking and searches for something in the app. There's a link button in the corner that she presses accidentally.
This feature is only available to a few participants. Analyzing… Initiating Digital Link.
A digital blue thread emerges from the screen and inserts itself in her head. Her vision is consumed by scrolling codes of text.
Welcome to the Digital World.
Her head is in sudden pain. She looks up to the creature still in the pale hands of the glitch without her phone. The monster is clearing into a whole image. It's a white humanoid monster with large black eyes but no mouth.
It turns to face Tayumi, releasing the creature. “DiGitAl LinK ESTabLiShEd. ProCEeD ExTraCTiOn.” It says robotically, before slowly approaching her. She backs herself against the wall, fearing for her life.
“T-Tay-chan…” The creature weakly tries to get up.
A notification pops up on her phone.

“YES!” Tayumi agrees in desperation.
Executing command. Initiating Digivolution.
A source of codes burst out of Tayumi's head to envelope the creature. “Terriermon digivolve to…” His skin begins to absorb the code around him. His snout becomes more elongated to look more canine. His ears stretch and wrap around his arms. His right arm transforms into a white high caliber hunting rifle. He stands on his hind legs to look more like a wererabbit. “Terrorgomon!” He checks himself out. “Woah! This is a new Digivolution I haven't seen. I dig it.” He smirks. “Come on, buddy. Let's try this new baby out!”

Terrorgomon closes the distance and punches the Glitchmon with his left arm and sends it flying against the wall. He shoots twice at it, but its body molds away, the bullets hitting the wall. It shoots its left arm as a blade at his head, which he dodges at the last second and shoots back. The Glitchmon jumps at him and starts enveloping his body. Terrorgomon tries to get it off of him, but its grip is too strong. He looks at the lake and busts through the glass screen to run and hop towards it. He jumps in, causing the Glitchmon to start short circuiting. Terrorgomon swims out the water as the enemy disintegrates.
He returns back to his Tamer and Rookie stage and is gasping air. “Tay-chan… get me some digisnacks.” He plops on the floor. Tayumi is still in shock as notifications pop up.
