Along Came Baby

Summary:

Millie and Moxxie's baby happens to come at the worst time with Millie away from her husband and Moxxie being very sick.

Notes:

Got the first chapter up! I've been wanting to get to how I would have Millie give birth and was a bit inspired by how Full House handled Becky's pregnancy. While she's getting ready to give birth, Uncle Jesse's appendix decides to give him problems which he thinks are sympathy pains.

Octavia being a hero to Millie is something I've had in mind for a while since I think she'd grow to appreciate the other members of IMP since they've saved her dad more times than they can count so she'd want to do something in return. And she couldn't leave her while she's clearly in pain.

Moxxie being sick is something I also had in mind because he'd want to put Millie's needs first while ignoring his own sickness which is something they both need to work on. It's great to care for your partner's needs but you shouldn't neglect your own health. He's very lucky that Blitz and Barbie found him when they did or it could've been really bad.

We'll see more hospital stuff next time and what it's like for an imp to give birth. Let's just say it can be very...violent.

Oh I have more one-shots planned in this AU that take place before this. I'll reorder them when I get more done.

Chapter 1: Bad Timing

Chapter Text

Despite her fears about pregnancy and the stress of actually becoming a mother, Millie felt a lot more positive in the last few weeks of her final trimester than she had when she first found out. The life she started after moving to Imp City permanently with Moxxie was something she could only imagine. Being a hired thug living day to day was something she thought she had to expect as just an imp.

But her knucklehead best friend showed she could say screw off to expectations like that.

She could be a badass assassin doing what she loved with the man she loved…and raise a little one that had choices on who they wanted to be. Her family and Moxxie were there to support her through the morning sickness and cravings and moodswings. She didn’t feel like she was going crazy when she acted out and Moxxie was so patient and understanding these past nine months.

‘Maybe I can swing tickets to that Phantom of the Opera anniversary concert on Earth,’ Millie thought to herself as Moxxie wandered into the front room with a yawn. “Mornin’ honey!”

“Morning Millie…” Moxxie greeted sleepily, kissing her cheek and placing a hand on her belly. “How are you feeling today?”

“Pretty good,” she admitted. “I might go down to the corner store and get some ice cream.”

“D-Do you want me to go?” he offered, taking her hands. “We’re near the finish line and I just want you to be safe.”

“I’ll be alright, darlin’,” Millie promised, giving him a kiss on the cheek. “You’ve been workin’ your cute little buns off takin’ care of me so you rest up.” She then gave him a worried look. “Ya look like you haven’t been sleeping well, hun. Take it easy today.”

“Well…okay…” he conceded, reluctance in his voice. “Just keep your phone on, okay?”

“You got it, sugar,” Millie winked, helping her hubby to the couch. “What kind of ice cream do ya want? Rum raisin?”

“Actually maybe plain vanilla?” he requested, putting a hand on his stomach. “I’ve been feeling a little off lately so maybe I just need to eat bland for a while…”

Millie kissed his head, wincing when she felt how uncomfortably warm he felt. “Ooh maybe I should pick up some meds from the pharmacy too,” she decided, taking her keys and stabbing knife with her. “Be back soon! Love you!”

“Love you…” Moxxie smiled weakly, waiting for her to shut the door before curling up on the couch, wincing hard. “The fuck did I eat?”

He had been hiding from Millie for a while but his stomach had pains that have been messing with his sleep and appetite. The little guy had no clue why he was feeling this shitty or what could’ve caused it. Moxxie had heard of sympathy pains from being with a pregnant person but this…this felt wrong. He picked up a blanket from the floor, cocooning himself in it as she shut his eyes, trying to breathe through the pain.

“Do this for Millie…” he whispered. “She’s the pregnant one, not you.”

(....)

“Alright let’s see. Got some medicine for foxy Moxxie…some chocolate marshmallow swirl for me and…what?! No vanilla?!” she gasped, reaching her hand in the freezer to see if one fell back. Squatting down–which was a real pain in the ass in her condition–Millie peeked inside and saw they were completely out of vanilla.

No french vanilla. No vanilla bean. No store brand or even name brand vanilla ice cream. Sure it was popular but who the fuck buys that much ice cream? Was there a sappy rom-com marathon on TV or something?

“Oh screw this,” Millie grumbled, digging out her wallet and paying for what she came for. “I’ll got to a damned ice cream parlor and get the good shit.”

“Ya sure ya need it?” the clerk snarked.

Millie gave him a glare before taking a pack of gum, quickly stuffing it in her mouth to chew rapidly before spitting it in his hair. “I’m eatin’ for two, shithead! Quit bein’ a judgey prick!” she snarled, giving him the double bird as she left.

“My fucking hair!”

Millie stomped down the street, utterly furious that her quick little outing was being delayed by a lack of vanilla ice cream and stupid store clerks. She might need to catch the bus to get back home but it’d be worth it to help Moxxie feel better. Poor fella really needed a break; if he was sick and she was still pregnant, they’d be screwed without some extra help. Maybe Blitz or Loona could come help out at their place for a few days. Sallie May was going to be coming into town when their due date was getting closer but maybe she’d be fine with heading on up a little earlier?

“I hate askin’ but mama and daddy did say I could call when I–” Her eyes widened as she felt something warm in her pants that wasn’t pee. “Oh no…no no no no no!” she gasped, looking down at her belly. “Ya ain’t supposed to come yet!”

Her water was breaking and she couldn’t stop it. She needed to get to the Hellevator station to get down to Sloth. It broke her heart Moxxie couldn’t help her but he wasn’t in any condition to go anywhere right now. But as she trudged down to the bus station to get to Pentagram City, the contractions were starting to hit and hit hard.

“FUCKING SHIT!” she cursed, finding a nearby bench to sit down on to catch her breath. “Breathe…breathe through the pain…you’ve been stabbed, punched, kicked, thrown around, shot at, and so much worse than this…just pull it together…”

Her moans were so loud they caught the attention of a familiar demon. An owl teen, having just returned from a shopping trip out on her own, immediately ran up to the smaller demon and sat with her. “Hey are you okay?” she asked, a worried tone in her voice.

Millie blearily looked up, seeing Octavia staring at her with concerned eyes. “W-What’re you doin’ here…?” she mumbled, delirious from the pain.

“I was out in town but forget about that,” Octavia told her, taking her hand. “Why are you here? Where’s your husband?”

“H-Home sick…c-can ya call an ambulance?” the weak imp requested. “I don’t think I can make it to the bus…”

Feeling pity for the weak imp, Octavia stood up and muttered a spell before a portal opened in front of them that revealed a soft pink realm in front of them. “Your main hospital’s in Sloth, yes?” she asked, helping Millie to her feet.

“Y-Yeah?” she nodded, blushing when she felt Octavia support her. “A-Are you sure this is okay? What about your daddy?”

“I’m not leaving Hell this time,” Octavia promised, giving her a small smile. “Besides, you’ve helped my dad so I want to help you.”

“Thank you…” Millie smiled weakly, carefully walking through the portal with the Goetia princess. “C-Can ya call Moxxie when I’m settled in? He’s gotta know first…”

“Sure thing.”

(...)

“Darling I appreciate you and Loona helping me with my greenhouse,” Stolas smiled gratefully, dirt speckling his feathers.

“Hey I know that plants are important to ya,” Blitz told him, wiping sweat off his brow. “And that icy dick made a big fucking mess so we’ll help fix it up.”

Loona looked at one of the paintings of Andrealphus that he stuck up everywhere around Stolas’s house before punching a hole through the face and tossing it out the window like a frisbee. “Who the fuck needs the same damned painting over and over?”

“Someone who's a big damned egotist,” Stolas snarked, letting out a surprised hoot as he saw Blitz’s pocket vibrating. “Erm, sweetheart?”

Blitz looked down, groaning in annoyance. “Shit did I leave a vibrator in here again?” he grumbled, fumbling through his jacket pocket.

Stolas turned to Loona who just gave him a deadpan stare. “Again?”

“Don’t ask,” she advised.

Blitz pulled out his phone, answering it cheerfully. “Hey Mills! How’s pregnancy treating ya?” he wondered.

‘Hey Mr. Blitz.’

“Octavia?” Blitz blinked, catching Loona and Stolas off-guard. “Why are you calling on Millie’s phone? Is she okay?”

“Put her on speaker,” Stolas requested. When Blitz pressed the button and Octavia’s voice came through, he leaned in close. “Sweetie what’s going on? Did you meet Miss Millie while you were shopping?”

Eh…sort of. I was going to come home but I found Miss Millie going into labor.’

“The fuck?!” Blitz and Loona gasped.

“Gracious! Is she alright? Where are you?” Stolas asked.

‘She’s okay. I brought her to the hospital and am checking her in right now. I tried calling her husband but I can’t get a hold of him. Can you call him?’

Loona and Blitz looked at each other in worry. Moxxie always answers Millie’s call even when he’s on the shitter; something was very wrong. “I’ll go check on Mox. Loona? Stolas? Get down to Sloth and make sure Millie’s okay,” Blitz instructed.

‘I’ll call her sister next. She mentioned something about her being one of her birthing partners or something.’

“See you soon dear!” Stolas sounded, waving at the phone as Blitz hung up. “Well I suppose gardening will have to wait. We’ve got a little one to prepare for.” The prince opened a portal to Sloth, helping Loona through while he looked back at his beloved. “Pleae give my best to Moxxie. We’ll make sure Millie is alright.”

“Thanks Stols,” he nodded, looking down at his phone as the portal shut. “Hey Barb, what’s up?”

‘Hey bro, we good for drinks tonight?’

“Actually, can ya meet me at Millie and Moxxie’s place?” he requested. “Something’s fishy and it ain’t the sewers of Greed.”

The twins met outside of M&M’s apartment building, Blitz giving his sister a quick hug before motioning for her to follow him around the side of the building. She was a little confused but he seemed to know what he was doing. He pulled down the fire escape ladder, propping her up as he hopped after her. He scrambled up the stairs before reaching the fourth floor, pulling out a wire clothes’ hanger.

“Question. Why the fuck are we going in this way?” Barbie asked, utter confusion in her voice.

“Octavia said Moxxie didn’t answer Millie’s call and he wouldn’t pick mine up,” Blitz told her, focused on his task. “I’m used to bein’ left on read with him but not picking up anything from Millie? Something’s not right.”

Her slight annoyance turned to concern as Blitz pulled the window open. “Think something happened to him?” she whispered.

“Only one way to find out,” he replied, carefully creeping through. It had been a while since he broke into their apartment but he still got it. “Mox? Ya here buddy?”

Barbie looked around before spotting a lump on the couch. “Is that him?” she whispered.

Blitz crept closer, frowning as he saw the lump shivering under the blanket. “Hey Mox your wife’s been callin’ ya,” he told him, pulling the blanket off before gasping. “Fuck what’s wrong with him?!”

Barbie knelt by his side, seeing him shivering and sweating at the same time. “Shit…I think I know what this is…” she muttered, seeing him clutching his side. She touched his face before pulling back, his temperature too hot to touch. “We gotta get him to the ER now.”

“What is it?” Blitz asked, quickly rubbing his Asmodean Crystal.

“Appendicitis.”

Chapter 2: Hospital Meet Up

Summary:

With everyone at the hospital, getting ready for two big procedures at once, Millie and Moxxie have to spend time apart even though they'd rather be by each other's sides more than anything.

Notes:

The gang's all here to help Millie and Moxxie cope with some of the scariest non-assassination related situations they could be dealing with. Stolas knows how important Millie's family is to her so he'd want to make sure that her parents and sister were there for her. Her brothers are old enough to handle watching the farm while they're in Sloth.

I also figured that only one person would be able to be with Millie in the delivery room, Sallie May is her second choice that's available while everyone else is waiting for Moxxie. I also wanted to give more hints that Sallie May's relationship with Barbie Wire is going well which makes Millie very happy. She was already giddy when she saw her sister had found someone so knowing their relationship is going well is helping her feel less anxious about the baby coming.

I also figured, like that episode of Full House I'm basing this idea off of, Moxxie would be absolutely stoned off his ass with not much of a filter when he's getting out of anesthesia. Definitely more loose and relaxed which is very funny to witness. But he's going to be the calm presence Millie needs because when it's getting closer for baby to come, let's just say Barbie's concerns are going to be justified.

Chapter Text

“Mox…where…?” Millie moaned, thankfully being given a wheelchair when Octavia walked her through the door. There was no way she could sit in those uncomfortable waiting room chairs in her condition.

“I contacted your boss. He’ll bring him,” Octavia reassured her, holding her hand for comfort. “You’ll be okay.”

As if on cue, two portals opened with a gaggle of demons running through. Blitz and Barbie came through first, Blitz holding a very sick-looking Moxxie in his arms as Barbie ran to the reception to get him checked in. Stolas came through next with Loona, Sallie May, and Millie’s parents. Millie’s eldest brother Duke was watching the farm and the younger brothers back home. She was surprised everyone was here but more than that, very worried about how pale her husband was.

“M-Moxxie?” Millie winced, reaching for him. “What happened?”

“Appendix,” Blitz told her. “Little guy’s little guy is damned near ready to pop.”

Seeing her scared face, Barbie ran to Millie’s side to comfort her. “I just talked to the doctors. They’re gonna take him in and get that thing out. He’ll be right by your side before you deliver.”

“Oh thank Lucifer…” Millie sighed in relief, gasping when Moxxie reached for her in his feverish state.

“Millie…I’m sorry…” he winced.

Millie took his hands, a determined look on her face. “Don’t you dare apologize,” she told him. “My contractions have calmed down so I’m okay. Get that thing out and I’ll hold on as long as I can.”

“I love you so much…” Moxxie smiled weakly as he was placed on a stretcher and rolled away.

Blitz placed a hand on Millie’s shoulder, giving her a reassuring smile. “He’ll be alright, Mills,” he told her.

“I know,” she whispered, looking over at her parents and sister who rushed to her side. “Sorry I couldn’t tell ya myself.”

“It’s okay, baby,” Lin reassured her, running a hand through her hair. “We were surprised when the prince and your boss’s kid came knockin’ at our doorstep after the princess called Sallie May.”

“We’ll wait for him until your he’s out of surgery,” Joe promised, frowning slightly. “Talk about bad timing. Little man's gotta be scared shitless.”

Sallie May knelt by her sister’s side, taking her hands. “I’ll be there for ya, Mills,” she promised, looking gratefully at Blitz and Barbie. “Thanks for checkin’ on him.”

“Hey I knew something was wrong when Octavia said he didn’t pick up,” Blitz replied. “He always picks up her calls even when he’s on the shitter.”

“And I’ve been around this place long enough to pick up signs about medical shit,” Barbie added. “We got to him just in time.”

“You’re amazin’,” Sallie smiled, making Barbie blush.

“W-W-Well I don’t know about that…” Barbie laughed nervously, thanking her lucky stars when Stolas and Loona came over.

“Miss Millie’s room is ready. Room 314 in the maternity ward,” Stolas told them, allowing a nurse to wheel her off.

All they could do now was wait and hope for the best for Moxxie’s surgery and that Millie’s contractions stayed far enough apart so he’d make it to be there for their baby. Blitz noticed Barbie biting her lip, a nervous habit from when she was a kid. “Hey she’s gonna be okay,” he told her. “My bestie is tough as nails.”

“It’s not that,” Barbie replied, looking warily at where she was being wheeled off to. “I’m just worried about if the doctors will be able to handle it when the contractions get closer…”

“Eh? What do ya mean?” the older twin wondered.

Barbie looked at her brother with a grave expression. “Imps go into fight or flight mode when they’re in serious pain. And if what Sallie May’s told me about Millie is anything to go by, those doctors better be prepared for her to go absolutely apeshit,” she told him.

(...)

Since only one person was allowed in Millie’s room at a time, Sallie May elected to stay with her sister while everyone else went to the waiting room. Moxxie’s surgery, according to Barbie, would take 30 minutes to at most an hour if there weren’t any complications, Lucifer willing. Plus they had to make sure the anesthesia wore off enough where he could be with Millie.

Millie was sitting in her room, feeling like a whole watermelon was sitting in her stomach as Sallie May dabbed her forehead. “Oh…I’m excited to meet the baby-to-be-named-later but I want the little booger out already,” she moaned.

“I know but you’re doin’ a great job,” Sallie May encouraged. “Moxxie’s gonna be the proudest papa ever to that little one.”

Millie looked at her swollen belly before turning to her sister in horror. “I know I want him here but I really don’t wanna be stuck here forever,” she whimpered, wincing in pre-emptive embarrassment. “Sal, promise ya won’t judge me if I go all…crazy when it’s time to push? Like if I curse up a storm or wreck the room or somethin’?”

Sallie patted her sister’s head, giving her a smile. “Hey the doctors here are trained for that shit. They won’t think any less of ya,” Sallie told her before catching herself. “Well, maybe they’ll be a bit more gentle for your next doctor’s appointment.

“Lucifer willin’,” Millie joked before looking up at her sister. “Tell me somethin’ to keep me distracted. How’s things goin’ with Barbie?”

The taller girl felt her face turn pink before giving her sister a sheepish smile. “She’s…really sweet. A bit rough around the edges but she’s a sweet silly gal,” she told her, making Millie giggle.

“I’m happy she makes ya happy…” the shorter girl sighed wistfully. “Ya deserve it…”

“Thanks Mills…” Sallie May chuckled, thinking to her super cool girlfriend. “I’m glad we met at that bar…”

Meanwhile, everyone was just waiting around for Moxxie’s surgery to be overwith. Loona was messing around on her phone, trying not to let her worry for the nerd overwhelm her. Blitz was pacing while Barbie was trying to get him to sit down; there wasn’t much they could do now so the best thing they could do was wait. Lin and Joe were trying not to look too concerned but their daughter and son-in-law were stuck in the most vulnerable positions of their lives. Stolas and Octavia were probably the calmest of everyone there but the taller prince could see his daughter glancing towards the maternity ward with concern.

“Dad…I know imps don’t lay eggs like most avian Goetia…but will Miss Millie be okay?” Octavia wondered.

Stolas placed a hand on his daughter’s shoulder, giving her a soft smile. “I’m sure the doctors will be able to take care of her needs,” he promised, kissing her head. “I’m very proud of you for helping her like you did. You kept a cool head when she needed you.”

“Well…she helped you when you needed it…” she muttered, feeling bashful.

“Honestly ya did good bringin’ her here,” Lin chimed in. “With my kids, it was a tough time for the doctors and my hubby.”

“I remember you kicked a doctor in the chin when he kept tellin’ ya to push,” Joe added. “Ya practically knocked him half way across the room.”

“Hey that gets real annoyin’ after a while,” the older imp woman snarked. “Hell, Millie nearly punched him in the eye when she was comin’ out. A real fighter from day one.”

“Shit…and I thought laying an egg was painful,” Octavia shuddered.

“We’re at our strongest while giving birth…but we’re exhausted by the time it's all over,” Lin went on.

“Remember when dad told us about mom giving birth to us?” Barbie told Blitz. “He said he’d never seen her curse like she did that day. It would’ve been funny if it hadn’t been so scary.”

“Oh yeah…didn’t dad say he was scared we might try to eat each other in her stomach?” Blitz mused, making his sister laugh.

“That’s hamsters, dorkbrain,” she teased. “Babies don’t eat their siblings while inside their mothers. Besides, I wouldn’t eat you.”

“Aw thanks Bar–OW!” he cried out.

Barbie took his hand and bit it playfully, grinning wickedly. “You’d taste terrible anyway!” she laughed, making everyone else laugh too.

“I would not!” Blitz retorted, crossing his arms with a pout.

Loona watched the two siblings in utter bewilderment. “Man…even when they’ve made up they’ll still squabble like kids,” she commented, looking up at the fluorescent lights. “I bet their dad could tell stories about them.”

“Oh you don’t need him to tell you stories about Blitz,” Barbie smiled brightly. “I’ve got a shit-ton of dirt on him.”

“I got dirt on you too, sis!” the shorter imp reminded her.

Time seemed to have flown by with everyone telling stories and chatting and even laughing. Even with their worries about the M&M duo being stuck far apart, being there together helped make the wait less intolerable. Blitz in particular was grateful that Stolas brought Millie’s parents along with Sallie May since he had a feeling Moxxie would need the extra support. Even with as tough as Joe and Lin were on the little guy when they first started their relationship, Moxxie standing up for Millie really gave them a newfound respect for the Greed-born imp. He might not’ve been traditionally tough but he treated their daughter right.

That meant he was family through and through.

Eventually, the light over the ER shut off and the doctor emerged, looking tired but satisfied. “The surgery went quite well. He’s going to be a bit groggy but you’ll be able to see him shortly. We just need to take him back to his room,” he explained.

Everyone let out a huge sigh of relief; Moxxie was going to be okay and be able to see his little one be born all healthy and happy. Barbie immediately went to tell Sallie May the good news, glad she had something to report. Hopefully Moxxie would be a little less loopy by the time they got there.

And maybe Sallie May would be able to keep Millie calm enough before she’d have to really start pushing.

(...)

“Hey buddy. Ya good?” Blitz tried, waving a hand over Moxxie’s face.

Moxxie woke up not too long ago, still high as a kite but able to look around at the concerned faces of his friends and family waiting for him. “This is a nice room…” he smiled dumbly.

“How ya feelin’, son?” Joe asked.

Moxxie’s eyes slowly drifted over to his father-in-law, a goofy grin on his face. “Hey…it’s that guy from Inside Out…the square dude…uh…I forget his name…” Moxxie giggled, oblivious to the embarrassed look on Joe’s face and Lin trying not to laugh.

“Wow he is high off his ass,” Loona muttered.

“This is gonna be fuckin’ funny to tell him later.” Blitz snickered.

“Ya feelin’ better, hun?” Lin wondered, feeling a lot softer on her son-in-law these days. “Ya gave us quite a scare.”

“Well…my stomach doesn’t hurt…” Moxxie recalled, waving his hand around. “But don’t tell Millie…she’s worried enough with the baby…is she here?”

“Erm…yes she is. You might need to wait a bit to see her…” Octavia began awkwardly, briefly making Moxxie’s stupid smile stop.

“Oh…no no I really should go find her…” he reasoned, shaking his head slightly. “She might tear the hospital apart and we don’t want that.” He then started to laugh, unaware of the worried looks on everyone else’s faces. “R-Remember when she tore my stupid dad’s henchmen apart and shoved a dick-on-stick down our ex’s throat? A-A hospital has a lot of sharp shit s-s-so she’d turn them into confetti!”

“Oh dear…would it be dangerous for Moxxie to be brought to Millie’s room while he’s like this?” Stolas wondered, genuine concern in his voice.

“Now I’m sure our girl’s gonna be fine. Sallie May’s with her and her girlfriend can help keep her calm too,” Joe reasoned.

*CRASH*

Everyone jumped at the loud banging coming from a few floors up and screeching that sounded like a bunch of angry cats in a fight. “Then again…we might wanna hurry the doctor along for Millie’s sake,” Joe corrected himself, a concerned expression on his face.

Chapter 3: Here's Baby!

Summary:

Millie's finally ready to pop but her body goes into fight mode. They need to calm her down before it's too dangerous.

Notes:

Sorry it took a bit to get back to this one but Millie's birth and imp births in general I think would be pretty dramatic. Since she's definitely someone that gets emotional, I think the pain of giving birth would make her go into full protective mode and fight off anyone that's in her way. Even if it's family, friends, or doctors trying to help her. Thankfully seeing Moxxie, even if he's high as kite, would calm her down enough to be able to give birth relatively calmly.

oh and Moxxie singing "Havin' my baby" is definitely a reference to the Full House episode that inspired this so thank you to Marirock for the suggestion.

And it'd be funny after all that happened, Millie and Moxxie are peacefully snoring together, unaware of the chaos that happened around them.

Also, ta-da! their child is a girl! We'll reveal baby-to-be-named later's name next time.

Chapter Text

[Meanwhile…]

Barbie had practically sprinted to Millie’s room, an excited spring in her step. She had a good feeling this whole mess would get smoothed over without any hiccups. The older imp woman felt her face heat up as she saw Sallie May taking care of a dozing Millie, dabbing her forehead with a cloth. Thankfully her contractions have calmed down for the moment so she was taking this time to rest.

Sallie turned to Barbie, curiosity on her face. “How’d it go?” she asked.

“He’s doing fine,” Barbie told her, smiling at the relieved sigh escaping her girlfriend’s lips. “He’ll probably be loopy for a while but he should be fine to be by Millie’s side for the birth.”

“Oh thank fuck…” Sallie May sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Gotta admit it was scary seein’ the nerd get hauled off like that.”

Barbie sat next to Sallie May, placing a hand on her shoulder. “So what’s the story with you and him? If you think he’s weak, I’ve fought him and trust me; he can handle himself pretty damned well,” she began.

“It’s not that–though I did think he was a cupcake princess when Millie sent a pic of him,” she admitted, embarrassed at how rude she was to him at first. “I guess when I heard my sister datin’ and marryin’ someone it really hit she wasn’t comin’ back home.”

“Yeah…leaving home can be a lot…” Barbie nodded in understanding.

“Sucky part? I completely get why she left…but it don’t mean it hurt any less…” Sallie muttered. “I want her to be happy since she supported me so much…but I miss her like crazy…”
Barbie rubbed her shoulder, completely understanding how she felt. “You know…even when I wasn’t talking to Blitz, I still thought about him sometimes,” the older imp woman admitted. “Mostly thinking he probably got himself into trouble or whatever…but even when I was angry with him deep down I missed him.”

“Siblings, right?” Sallie smirked knowingly.

“Damned straight,” Barbie laughed quietly before looking down. “I guess that never really goes away no matter how much time passes. I still feel a little awkward after all the shit that’s happened but…I want to do better, y’know?”

“Mills reminded me I can come up to see her whenever I want and she’s makin’ more of an effort to come see the family,” the younger imp replied, thinking of that day trip she spent with Millie getting familiar with Imp City. “I know things can’t always be the same but…maybe it ain’t meant to be.”

“Keep moving forward,” Barbie nodded sagely, looking at the Wrathian imp with a soft smile. “It’s how we met.”

Sallie laughed, placing a hand on top of Barbie’s. “And I’m glad we did.”

“RRRRAAAAGGGH!!!!”

The tender moment was interrupted by a loud shriek from Millie. It seemed like the contractions were starting again but instead of squeezing her eyes shut from pain, her eyes were wide with narrowed pupils and her fangs fully exposed. Sallie moved right by her side, seeing her sister contorting from the pressure.

“Oh fuck! We need a doctor now!” Sallie shouted, hoping someone was nearby.

“I’ll get help!” Barbie promised, gasping when Millie grabbed a tray of tools and started to throw them around. “Shit it’s already starting!”

“What?!” Sallie gasped, ducking from a stethoscope being launched at her head.

“The imp birthing process!” Barbie called, dodging a barrage of tongue depressors being thrown her way. “And it ain’t gonna be pretty!”

(...)

“Havin' my baby~! What a lovely way of sayin' how much you love me~” Moxxie crowed, utterly oblivious to his surroundings as he was being wheeled down the hall.

“Shit he’s even loopier than I thought,” Blitz commented.

“I hope he stops singing showtunes when we get to Millie’s room,” Loona groaned, pulling her ears down to block her coworker out. “His high singing sucks.”

The crash they had heard from the maternity ward prompted the gang to bring Moxxie to Millie’s side. If she was having a hard time with contractions hurting her, maybe having her husband by her side would help calm her down. Moxxie’s in-laws were talking with him, making sure he understood what was going on and that he wasn’t in any danger. Though even they weren’t sure that was entirely the case if Millie caused that crash.

“Everything’s gonna be alright, hun,” Lin promised, squeezing Moxxie’s hand.

“Thank you, nice lady…” Moxxie giggled.

Joe looked up at Stolas, wiping sweat from his brow. “Hey uh just in case things are goin’ crazy up there, your magic can help, right?” he asked, trying not to sound afraid.

“I do have magic shields that can help protect you all,” Stolas promised, holding his daughter close. “Via, if it looks dangerous, please stay safe.”

“I will, dad,” the young princess promised, very worried about the young woman she helped. She knew about her mother having a difficult time with laying her egg–one of the few times her parents were on the same page and weren’t shrieking at each other–so an imp giving birth probably was just as dangerous. She hoped she wouldn’t get sick while doing so.

“FUCKIN’ ASSHOLE SHITHEAD COCKSUCKERS!” Millie’s voice raged before another crash startled everyone.

Barbie peeked her head outside of the room, holding her hand out to stop them. “It’s bad! She’s in feral mode!” she warned, spitting out a cotton ball that had gotten in her mouth.

Lin and Joe ran ahead, shocked to see their daughter clinging onto the monitor, hissing as she waved an IV pole like a sword. The doctors were doing their best to try and calm her down but she kept hitting one in the face and belted another one in the gut. Her eyes were wild and bloodshot, the pain overwhelming her so much she couldn’t see clearly.

“Millie! Ya gotta calm down sweetheart!” Lin tried.

“Ya can’t give birth standin’ up!” Joe added.

Sallie was trying to pull her down without touching her stomach but she was knocked flat on her butt. “Damn she’s strong!” she commented, blowing her hair from her face.

“Y’ALL AIN’T GETTIN’ MY BABY!” Millie hissed.

“N-Now miss we’re here to help you!” the doctor, who had a nosebleed, was trying to reason.

“SHUT UP!” the assassin shouted, doubling over as she collapsed on the bed, howling in pain. “Why won’t it stop?!” she wailed.

“Someone hold her down! We need to get her to focus on something! Anything!” another doctor called.

Quickly thinking, Blitz rolled Moxxie in while Stolas and Octavia cast a shield spell over them. “Hey Millie! Lookie here! Your hunky hubby’s right here!” Blitz called, gaining her attention.

Millie’s snarling soon calmed to snorts as her vision began to clear, seeing her husband staring at her. “M-Moxxie…?” she winced.

“Hi pretty lady…” Moxxie waved.

“Oh Mox…” she smiled briefly before tears started to flow. “I can’t do this…I ain’t strong enough…I’m scared…”

“I can hold your hand…” he offered, giving her the hand that didn’t have an IV drip in it. “Don’t worry…it’ll be okay pretty lady…”

Millie took his hand, squeezing hard as she felt another contraction hit. “Oh I think baby’s comin’ in hot!” she warned.

The doctors, having cleaned up their wounds, prepped for her to start crowning. Everyone that wasn’t approved on the birthing partner list was shuffled into the hall, leaving Sallie May and Moxxie with Millie. Sallie May took her other hand, giving her the proudest smile she could muster. “You’re almost there, Mills,” she encouraged.

“Boy…your husband must be pretty lucky…a baby and a pretty wife…” Moxxie commented, still delirious.

Millie gave him a weak smile, kissing his hand. “I’m the lucky one, Mox,” she told him.

“Alright Miss Mildred, we’re going to push on this contraction! Ready? And…push!” she told her.

Millie pushed as hard as she could, squeezing Sallie May and Moxxie’s hands like stress toys. Sallie winced through the pain, trying to give her words of encouragement while Moxxie kept crowing his weird little song. It was strange but it seemed to give Millie something to focus on while she was pushing.

“Havin' my baby! What a lovely way of sayin' what you're thinkin' of me!” he droned on. “I can see it, your face is glowin'~! I can see it in your eyes, I'm happy you know it~!”

“Alright we can see the head!” the doctor told her. “You’re almost there!”

While everyone else waited in the hall, the sounds of Sallie’s wincing, Moxxie’s singing, and Millie’s groaning made for an interesting soundtrack. Octavia sat between her father and Loona, wishing she knew what was going on in there. Blitz and Barbie were pacing, worry overtaking and frustrated that they couldn’t be in there to help. Lin and Joe were holding each other’s hands, hoping their daughter and the baby would be safe.

This was the first grandbaby afterall.

After minutes that felt like hours and aloud and gross squelch, Sallie May opened the door, a big smile on her face as tears began to flow. “It’s a girl!” she announced.

Everyone cheered and hugged each other, so happy for the young couple. Blitz was already making plans to be the fun uncle that got his niece into mischief while Octavia hugged Loona and her dad in relief. Lin and Joe were bawling as they hugged Sallie May, so happy everything went well all things considered while Barbie patted her shoulder.

“You’re gonna be an awesome aunt,” she told her girlfriend proudly.

Blitz peeked inside, seeing the doctor cleaning off the baby while proudly striding over to his best friends. “Hey hey, you two!” he grinned. “How’s it feeling bein’ parents?”

Millie and Moxxie responded with loud snoring, both exhausted from their time in the hospital.

Loona peeked in with a smirk. “Well, snoring’s better than his off-key singing.”
