Chapter Text
She pulled her knees up to her chest, and attempted to hold in her tears. Today had gone awful, and everyone had either ignored her or gotten mad at her for being annoying and clumsy. The tears she tried to hold in pricked the corners of her eyes as she remembered how she’d accidentally led a twisted right to Vee, who’d been injured.
Thankfully toons can’t actually die due to the creation of the respawn machine, but Vee had been pretty pissed at her, and the others on the run were a bit annoyed as well. Man, they hate me now, don’t they…
Shelly sniffled, and burrowed her face into her knees. How had she messed up so badly today?! She’s supposed to be the helpful and cheerful one, but she’d failed both. As she spiraled, her thoughts turned dark. She tried to fight them.. but then again, no one seems to care about her unless they need something, so why would they care what she did to herself aside from general obligation? They never talk to her first, she always initiates the conversation. Even then, they never look too thrilled to be around her, and find excuses to leave when they can.
Nobody likes dinosaurs anyway.
She ground her teeth together, and looked at her arms. What if I just… no, I shouldn’t. But..
It had been a while since she’d hurt herself. It hadn’t been that long since she’d thought about it, but she’d been doing a good job ignoring it, distracting herself from her destructive thoughts. This time, she was alone with her thoughts. No distractions, no one to hide it from.
It wouldn’t be that bad if she bit just once, would it? No one would know she’d done it anyway.
No one would care.
Her teeth sinking into her soft flesh. The sharp stabbing that pricked blood. The delicious metallic taste of injury. Letting her arm free, she observed the bite. The sight made her mouth water, and the blood that had been bubbling up she licked away.
Unable to resist, she clamped down again, breaking skin and skewering minor veins. She continued until her vision began to feel fuzzy, and she was reminded of her own mortality.
Panicking, she scrambled to find her medkit, and pulled it open with shaking hands. Grabbing the gauze, she placed it over her wounds, which thankfully still had skin covering them, and weren’t bleeding too badly. Once she’d made sure it wouldn’t fall off, she grabbed a roll of bandage wrap, held onto one end, and started wrapping. She silently thanked herself for biting her non dominant arm, as it made wrapping her wounds easier. Once she’d made sure they were all covered, Shelly smoothed the end down to keep it from peeling up, and breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn’t cleaned up the bites, but she didn’t really care if she got an infection. Maybe the others would notice finally, she thought grimly, laying down and closing her eyes.
