Work Text:

Wind Hunter's eyes became foggy as the vampire's fangs were removed from his neck. He could barely cling onto the other. Infernal Jam was warm.. and Wind Hunter never felt colder. He hated the cold

“Please.. m- make sure they’re okay- my siblings–”

He whispered in weak sobs as he felt his mind go foggy. It almost felt like he was dying. It didn’t hurt anymore, it just felt numb. He could barely form a thought as his grip on the other loosened

“And thank you–”

He whispered as his eyes drooped

“For being my friend…”

His sentence trailed off as his body limply slumped against the other. His hand that was clinging onto the other’s coat limply fell. He wasn’t dead just sleeping… if you wanted to put it like that

A few hours have passed by ever since the fiery vampire bit the oh so adored Wind Hunter, as his siblings are most likely unaware of how cruelly he was so taken away, so suddenly and with no warning. But Infernal Jam was selfish. He didn't care about what Wind Hunter's siblings really thought of, even if Wind Hunter's dying wish was to take care of them. To make sure they would be ok. He couldn't do that.

Infernal Jam couldn't just go to his siblings and go like 'hey so I just turned your big brother into a vampire haha OOPSIES!!', that would be idiotic. If anything, he better hide him for some time. In Infernal Jam's cave of course, where both the vampire and soon-to-be vampire cookie were in. Wind Hunter was currently passed out in Infernal Jam's coffin, as the owner of the cave was just observing him.

The fiery vampire wondered why his transformation was taking a bit to process. Most mortals would already be awake by now. Was this because of his direct connection with The Sugar Swan??

It didn't really matter. Infernal Jam was just bored, looking at Wind Hunters troubled expression on his face. Maybe he shouldn't name him 'Wind Hunter' for much longer though, as this one was literally starting to lose his feathers. Wait. Lose his feathers?? The fiery one couldn't help but observe the other more closely. “You really are peculiar, little bird…”

The feathers were falling out slowly yet surely. It was odd to see the white feathers shedding, some seemed to need preening yet still just fell to the coffins floor. The green bird's hair seemed to lose that vibrant green as well. It looked almost dull. Like it was slowly turning a different color strand by strand.

The small tense twitches in his headwings and face were the only thing signaling that the other was in fact alive, other than the barely noticeable shallow breaths. His face was scrunched up uncomfortably as he mumbled something uncomfortably

It took a moment but the other barely opened his eyes. His mind was too foggy and loud of ringing to think much.

“Ugh–.. what…”

“Hm? Huh. You... Are awake??” Infernal Jam asked, quite surprised that the other one would be conscious, let alone him open his eyes and let words come out from his mouth. Infernal Jam was curious though, about how much was this transformation gonna take. But it was quite rare that a vampire woke up before their transformation was fully completed. Really strange.

“How are you feeling, little bird? You sure are losing feathers.” The vampire asked, moving his hand to the other's mouth to check if he was growing his fangs. And indeed, they were starting to slowly but surely come out.

Wind Hunters though, seemed out of it, and or barely conscious. His eyes were unfocused and already starting to droop shut and his words were slurred and barely over a mumble if anything.

Considering this and the transformation, Wind Hunter was barely able to stay awake to say much or do much of anything. To ask if his family was safe, if his siblings were okay, anything.

Not like he was going to remember them in the long run

“Man, you really are out of it.” Infernal Jam chuckled, removing his hand from the other's mouth and moving it to his hair, realising how the nice and pure green colour was fading away so drastically. “You should save your energy now. I doubt the process will be over anytime soon, unfortunately.” The vampire giggles mischievously, like if he wasn't the one who did this. It was gonna be worth it though. They could love each other like this now, without any law nor mortal to stop them.

A slow clap and giggle sounded from the entrance of the cave causing the fiery vampire to flinch in surprise. When he turned he was unfortunately met with one of Dark Enchantresses right hand men. Licorice Cookie.

Licorice and Infernal Jam didn’t get along well. Always passively aggressively fighting and throwing bitter remarks about each other. But yet again Licorice was absolutely devoted to Dark Enchantress. It made Infernal Jam sick to see.

“Congratulations, quite a show you put on there to what Ive heard, Infernal Jam! You actually completed the mission after… hmmm how long was it? Three months?”

Licorice giggled, leaning against the wall of the cave, lightly tossing a purple gem in his hand

“Better late than never I suppose. All just to bite some mortal.”

He shrugged teasingly. Dark Enchantress had already told him the depth of the two's relationship and he was poking fun at it. I mean really? A mortal and a vampire? Ha! And he expected better out of Infernal Jam. The fiery vampire  just scoffed at that comment. Yeah, it was somewhat disappointing that he actually did fall for a mortal. One of Sugar Swan's kids, out of literally everyone else.

“Yeah, yeah. Cut the bullshit. What do you want? Is it about Sugar Swan's son, or is it about me getting a punishment for taking so long?” The fiery vampire went straight to the point, making it somewhat obvious that he did not enjoy having a conversation with Licorice. Or to any of Dark Enchantress' right hands. However, Dark Choco was a bit of an exception. That guy was the most chill out of all of them.

“Relax! It's about the bird.”

He snickered as he walked over to where Infernal Jam was at. He could see the passed out soon to be vampire in the coffin which he hummed as he observed him. Odd, usually the turning would be complete by now…?

“Late bloomer? Hmmm that's a shame. Our lord wanted to speak with him right now.”  Licorice mused before tossing the purple gem in his hand again before handing it to Infernal Jam

“Thats for when he wakes up. Special order for our lord herself.” Infernal Jam observed the gem for a bit. He knew that if it was from Dark Enchantress, it was probably something not so good. “… What's this for.” He asked bluntly, looking back at the other vampire.

“If it's something to hurt him or manipulate him, I'd rather avoid anything like that.” Infernal Jam sighed lightly, rolling his eyes. It is not like he could ask them and expect them to obey him, but he could at least try to negotiate a bit.

“Oh don’t be so grumpy! It's just a communication gem that her lord wanted him to have. Quite handy if you asked me” Licorice shrugged, not giving the vampire many details on what the magic actually did do. Quite peculiar. Infernal Jams words weren’t even considered. He basically broke the core rule of vampires, why would they even think to listen to him now?

“I guess I'll give him this when he wakes up then... Who knows when that will be. I'll let her know as soon as possible.” The fiery vampire shrugged, letting out a soft sigh. “Is that everything then? Because if so, you can go.” Infernal Jam furrowed his brow, his attention going back to that purple gem. Just why would Dark Enchantress give him this for Wind Hunter?? Sure, she wanted him to turn him into a vampire for a reason, but was there a specific reason, apart from him being related to Sugar Swan??

“Ehh maybe. I've been wanting to have just a simple chat with an old colleague. Is that too much to ask?” Licorice poked fun at the other, leaning against his scythe by the entrance. “Dark Enchantress also requested that we change his name. Something about not wanting the name ‘wind…’ whatever, because that could trigger memories or something.”

“Got it. Yeah. No much time to chat, you know. Gotta take care of this dying bird. You can go. Now.” Infernal Jam spoke in a passive aggressive tone. It was too much to ask to just chat with Licorice, the pranks he puts on Infernal Jam were not funny at all. Putting chemicals on his fiery hair without his consent, just to see if it changed colours was not funny. He remembers he felt super weird after that time. Never again will he hang out with those guys.

“Mhm… good luck with that bird? Or lack there of now!” Licorice laughed at his own joke as he pushed off his scythe, spinning it back behind his back before heading out of the Fiery Vampires cave.

“Toodles Infernal!”

Infernal Jam gave him a side eye as the other vampire walked away. Groaning in frustration, he floated back to accompany Wind Hunter in his awkward slumber. Watching over the bird and looking back at the purple gem, he did notice how the ex hunter was slowly turning into some purple dullish color. Huh. That's peculiar.

“Hey, are you still conscious? You gotta get a new name soon. I'll start thinking about one... It's gotta be a good name though, hm…” Infernal Jam started thinking of many names. It has to be something cool, without the word 'Wind' but perhaps something similar.

Breeze? nah. Zephyr? Doesn't really fit him. Hurricane? Too aggressive for someone like Wind Hunter. Gale...? Gale sounded nice. Infernal Jam looked over the unconscious cookie, seeing how he was shaking a bit. Poor guy must be suffering a bit through this transformation, with how long he was taking.

Luckily, they could be together now.

No more birds, no more brats.

Just the two of them.

Wind Hunters face though looked anything but comfortable. The bird shivered involuntarily, from the fever? The cold? The Hunter always did hate the cold.

The pain of transformation could be anything but pleasant. Your body aches like it's on fire but shivers like you have the worst frostbite of your life. But everything just felt like it was going to explode to the green bird. The transformation was taking awhile, way too long if you asked any vampire. Which probably amplified the effects. The green bird had shifted onto his side for some reason, wonder why that was

Infernal Jam hummed a bit, the shifting maybe giving away that he could be somewhat conscious. Peculiar, Wind Hunter was a very peculiar case, to be honest. “Are you in a little pain?? Or are you cold??” He asked, and as expected, didn't really get an answer. Well he was just talking to someone who was most likely not in the right state to talk.

“Uh, move your body or do something if you are actually cold. Like, just gimme a sign that you are listening to me.” The fiery vampire spoke up, as a hope to maybe get any answer.

Wind Hunter could barely make out the others words from the ringing in his ears but was able to weakly but slightly clench his hand into a fist. Every movement felt like his nerves were going to kill him right then and there. Or that his body was actually fighting off the turning. And that did not feel great at all

“That's good enough for me.” The fiery vampire grinned a bit, quickly getting inside that coffin with the soon immortal cookie. He observed Wind Hunter for a bit, analysing his troubled expression, and just... smiled.

Sure, he was probably in like, a huge pain right now, considering how it kinda was painful to feel the virus spread all across your body. But the future with them together waited for them. Infernal Jam was selfish, selfish enough to feel good that this suffering of Wind Hunter's was going to end soon. He wrapped his arms around Wind Hunter, hugging him closely.

After a few hours Wind Hunter groaned lightly as he opened his eyes. He felt warm… and weak. What was even happening? The last thing he remembered was agreeing to something cause Infernal Jam was… INFERNAL JAM!

He weakly sat up to see he was lying on the fiery cookie. He was okay… Infernal was okay. The memory of the other dying on the ground with that… lord towering over the other with his shattered gem.

Wait a minute– his hand weakly reached for his neck, feeling the sting of the bite and two holes from Infernal Jams fangs. He had let the other… bite him. He remembered that now. That was why he felt so weak but… he was alive. He had his memories. He was.. still here. How did he survive that???

Where was he… a coffin..? He looked back down to the snoozing vampire, as relieved Wind Hunter was that Infernal Jams was alive… he needed to get out of here. To tell his family he was okay. That he wasn’t a vampire. That he was alive.

He weakly crawled out of the coffin. Stumbling to the ground when he did. He was too weak to stand. To walk. To run. “Ugh–” He grunted as he crawled weakly by the exit of the cave.

The fiery vampire eventually was awakened slowly, noticing how Wind Hunter was missing. Did he maybe finish his transformation...?? His answer got quickly answered when he sat up, looking around and spotting the still mortal, crawling on the floor. He... He wasn't a vampire? He looked exactly like how Wind Hunter did. Now that's peculiar.

“Windy?? Windy, you are actually awake?? And you are still alive????” Infernal Jam grabbed his staff and floated towards the mortal, looking at his face and quickly moving his hand to the other's mouth, to check if he had fangs. Which he lacked. This was so weird. This never happened before to any vampire he met, this wasn't supposed to happen at all!!!

Wind Hunter flinched slightly at the sudden voice but quickly calmed down when he realized it was just Infernal Jam waking up. Wind Hunter was glad and relieved to see the other up and floating again. He was scared something may have happened to him  “Ah ha– yeah…” He spoke, lightly pushing the other’s hand away. Trying to play it off like he didn’t just let this guy bite him a few hours prior.

Infernal Jam tilted his head, inspecting and looking around Wind Hunter. Just how could anyone survive a vampire bite? Was it because Infernal Jam was weak?? Or was it because of Sugar Swan's genes??? Didn't matter. Dark Enchantress wanted him as a vampire. He couldn't risk being killed again. He couldn't...

“I'm glad you're awake, little bird! I have no idea how you survived a vampire bite, quite amusing, honestly!” he chuckled.

But... I can't let you escape now.” The vampire sighed, sitting down besides the somehow still mortal.

Wind Hunter at first didn’t actually believe Infernal Jams words. They could leave! And Wind Hunter could tell everyone that he was okay! That Infernal was okay! They would be okay… right?

“What? W-we can leave, Infernal! Me and you can get away from that crazy boss of yours… right?” Wind Hunter chuckled sheepishly, shifting away slightly. Infernal Jam couldn’t be serious!… He’s not like the others…

Infernal Jam just stared at him with a slight frown. Wind Hunter kinda thought like everything was perfect, didn't he?

“I wish I could, I really wish. But, things are not as easy as just running away.” The vampire spoke with a sigh, holding the other's face with his hands. That adorable face of his… He could stare at it forever.

“Wind Hunter, I love you. I really do, but I can't let you go… I'm sorry. I really am.” Infernal Jam spoke in a softer tone, keeping that frown. Dark Enchantress would be extremely mad if he ran away with the mortal, and who knows what she could do. Besides… They could be together this way. No more birds. The fiery one wanted this. He leaned closer and gave him a soft kiss on his lips. Just one last kiss.

Wind Hunter froze up. Infernal Jam couldn’t be serious right? He didn’t want to become a vampire. Sure, he was willing to when it meant saving the other. But there was a chance to leave… to go home. He wanted to go home.

He broke the kiss off with a quick shove. “You can't be serious??” Wind Hunter said, scrambling away. His legs felt weak, he couldn’t run away, could he?

The vampire expected this response. He didn't want this to make it harder than what it already was. To know that Wind Hunter was probably upset about him saying this when he thought they could run away. “Windy, I can't- I am serious.” Infernal Jam huffed in defeat, getting closer to the other once again.

“I had to bite you. As much as you hate to hear this, it was my mission from the beginning. Yes, I drugged you that one time because I wanted to finish this mission faster. But the more time I spent with you, the less I wanted to complete that mission! Because you were everything that I've ever wanted!” Infernal Jam admitted, trying to smile out of desperation. Grabbing the green bird's hands.

“But then I realised, that I can't let go of this opportunity to be together. It just sounds too good! It will be just the two of us! Doesn't that sound perfect?” He tightened the grip on the mortal's hands, smiling a bit more at the possibilities they could have.

Wind Hunter's eyes were full of terror. Infernal Jam… had been lying to him the whole time?

Slushy was right.

The things the fiery one spoke of made the green bird's blood run cold. He… loved Infernal Jam. But that wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted to stay with his family. Have a life– his memories!

“No!! No no no, that sounds insane!” He weakly snatched his hand back. “You– You lied to me-! I– I can’t believe you-??”

Infernal Jam let out yet another sigh. It seems like Wind Hunter didn't like how the real world worked. “Ah, I suppose I did lie to you most of the time. Yet, I can't help but feel amused by your kindness, Wind Hunter.”

“You truly are too kind for this world, little bird. I can't honestly believe you would let me be so close to you, to allow me to bite your neck so easily most of the time…!” The vampire spoke lowly, suddenly grabbing and pinning the mortal to the floor, taking advantage that he was weak at this moment. The way he struggled, how horrified he was… Truly adorable.

“And you know what everyone says; bad things always happen to those with the kindest hearts.” Infernal Jam chuckled. “I'll make this quick for you, alright? Just because I love you.” He then began leaning his face towards the other's neck.

Wind Hunter struggled underneath the other. Trying to find the strength to shove the other off but his body was already so weak from the bite earlier. He clawed  at the others arm and back trying to find some way to get the vampire off but he wouldn’t budge like a leech.

“You’re horrible…”

He muttered through a clenched jaw. He couldn’t believe he was saying it.

“A horrible beast–”

“Your words truly hurt me. Really. But it's not like you are going to remember anything anyways!” Infernal Jam chuckled, feeling a bit saddened to hear those words. The only mortal who actually trusted a vampire, being completely betrayed by the same vampire. A shame really, but it had to be done.

Infernal Jam gave him a kiss on his neck, before suddenly sunk his fangs onto that green dough of Wind Hunter, greedily taking all of the jam that remained within his body. So sweet, so delicious! He couldn't get enough of it. He really couldn't, the vampire didn't even listen to the last words of the mortal.

He was a selfish vampire.

Wind Hunter breath hitched painfully at the feeling of the fangs in his neck. Before he didn’t really care, he wanted to save the other. But now they stung. They felt like heated blades sinking through his veins. He still attempted to weakly lush the other off but as the vampire drank his movements became more limp.

“Selfish… that’s all you really are.”

He whispered, his words hurt with betrayal

Infernal Jam however, was enjoying this. Perhaps Wind Hunter wasn't too happy about this, but at this point, it was too late to go back. Too late to make things how they were before. The vampire eventually removed his fangs from the green dough, hopefully this time he did actually intoxicate the other properly so this doesn't happen again. He just... smirked.

“What can I say? I always was. I find it hard that you never noticed before, little bird.” Infernal Jam let out a satisfied hum, looking at the other's weakened face. “Ah, you truly are adorable, you know? Not like you are going to remember any of this anyways. But that's good. You don't need to remember anything.” He shrugged.

Wind Hunter narrowed his eyes weakly. He almost felt mocked. The others teasing yet sweet words only served to fuel the betrayal he felt. He didn’t want this. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

“You’re disgusting.. absolutely disgusting…. You’re just like all of them…”

He cursed the other under his breath as he felt his consciousness slipping once again, his protests and words trailing off.

“Aww, insulting me still? Even in your last moments? That's cute.” Infernal Jam kept smirking, giving him a light kiss before getting up from the ground, staff in hand. It was somewhat satisfying to be able to drink Wind Hunter's jam for one last time, that sweet jam of his! Though it was unusual for mortal jam to be this sweet. Maybe Wind Hunter really was a peculiar mortal. The vampire shrugged at the thought, still staring at the mortal below him and waiting a bit, poking Wind Hunter with his staff for a bit.

“You really were a nice experience.” The vampire spoke up again. That damned smirk on his lips.

Wind Hunter groaned weakly as his mind clouded. But a hint of defiance was still there. He shot a weak glare up at the other with pointed eyebrows.

“And you’re a coward… a damn coward–” Wind Hunter hissed before fully passing out once again. Cursing the other with the last form of consciousness he did have.

Infernal Jam stared at him for a bit, processing his words. Sure, he may be a coward, but it's not like he had much of an option. If he did try to escape with Wind Hunter, it was most likely that he would die in the attempt and he wouldn't get to live a perfect life with the other. He was weak, he was aware of that. And he couldn't do much about it, but be aware of it and suffer about it.

“Yeah, I know.” He replied, even though he knew the other couldn't really hear him now. Infernal Jam then grabbed Wind Hunter's arms, dragging him back to that one coffin he was there before. Letting him rest somewhere comfortable, at least. Observing him how he rested and hopefully never woke up as Wind Hunter, but as someone new.
