Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring.
“Yes dear?”
“Grimsley, we have a predicament.”
“I am concerned as to what that could mean but go on.”
“I have rescued a kitten.”
“That is not what I was expecting. I will be right over.”
“Thank you. Stay safe.”
…Well that was an eventful start to the evening.
Grimsley arrives at Emmet’s apartment a few minutes later. They were only a short walk away, they live in the same complex.
Before he had even completely stepped in he saw Emmet trying to keep a small, tabby cat from hopping out of his arms and out the door.
“She hopped into my car while I was loading it with groceries. She is verrrry fast. Yup! Speedy little guy.” Emmet speaks, tone as flat as usual but his smile still wide, even appearing more genuine this time.
“She looks soft.”
“She is.”
Once Grimsley shuts his door and sits on the couch, Emmet sets the cat down. She quickly steps over to Grimsley, jumping onto the couch to sit in his lap. She meows at him, loudly, until he sets his hand on her head.
“She's about 3 months old I think. Verrrry curious. Will probably explore once you two are acquainted.”
“Have you made sure she doesn't belong to someone? No tag or chip?”
“Nnnnope. No tag. No chip. Oh, but I do need to warn, she may still have fleas even though I cleaned her.”
“Noted”
Grimsley holds her close for a moment, before she climbs up his shoulder.
“Well, she could be someone to help with your loneliness. You can have a roomie again, now that… um..” Tough subject. He watches Emmet’s cheerfulness falter for just a moment.“Sorry.”
“No. It's okay. You are correct. She would be a nice friend to have around. Yup!”
“Does she have a name yet?”
“Nnnnope!”
“Oookay.”
Grimsley lets her lay on his shoulder. She meows at him a few times before curling up and shutting her eyes.
“It has been a verrrrry long day for her I’m sure. At this age she needs a lotta sleep.”
“So are you adopting? Officially?” Grimsley speaks, trying to hide his excitement and adoration for the cat sleeping on his shoulder, purring.
Emmet thinks for a moment.
“I suppose so.”
