Through a bond

Summary:

Spock and Kirk have been secretly dating for a year. It started awkwardly and unnaturally because Spock could only admit he had deep feelings of love for Jim when he emerged from his mad state after his Pon Farr. The suffering of having murdered his beloved captain nearly consumed him, and driven by guilt, he would logically surrender to the fleet to receive a torturous punishment, although of course, Captain Kirk wouldn't die so easily. Not even Spock could describe the feeling of joy and delight he felt when he saw Jim standing in front of him; it was so much that he couldn't suppress a big smile.

Today we're here to explore the progress of their relationship and a surprising ability that Vulcans hide.

Chapter 1: Testicular cancer or something else

Chapter Text

Spock noticed that the captain was drowsy and showing an illogical tiredness since there were no high-risk missions and lately they had only been on observation missions where they didn't have to land on any planets. The Earth days passed, and Kirk showed no signs of having rested, even though he himself waited for James to fall asleep to follow him. Something was definitely wrong, and he couldn't stand by and watch his boyfriend (defined in human terms) look increasingly haggard, so he chose the logical path and insisted that Jim go with McCoy for a checkup.
Days later, when almost the entire bridge joined Spock in urging the captain to visit the medical room, Kirk, along with his first officer, went for an examination to discover what was causing him to be so exhausted.

—Bones–Kirk observes how the doctor was already prepared for his arrival.—How long were you waiting for the opportunity to prick my body with your needles?

—A lot, now you can sit back and let me work my magic.–Mccoy points to one of the nearby stretchers.

—Ridiculous, Doctor, magic doesn't exist.

—I understand the message, Spock. Now, why are you here? Does Jim need you to hold his hand while I draw his blood?

—If the captain wanted it, I would do it.

Kirk watches in disbelief at the things his boyfriend says. He would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised by how much Spock's attitude changed after they started dating. Of course, on the bridge he always maintained a cold and professional attitude, but when they were in the comfort of their rooms or just surrounded by close friends, he had attitudes that seemed crazy to him compared to the attitude of the Spock he met a few years ago.

—Thank you, Spock, but that won't be necessary. Finish quickly, Bones.

The doctor took a blood sample from Jim and began to run the tricorder over his body, until it began to make strange noises indicating something was wrong with the captain's body.

—What's that, McCoy? What's wrong with Jim?

—My God, I don't know, the tricorder would never give these readings on a man.—Mccoy enters the device's data into the computer for a proper reading.—Captain, I need to take more readings and maybe change the medical equipment, these readings are totally wrong.

"Uhura to Captain Kirk! Captain, do you copy?"

Kirk stands next to the communicator in the infirmary and answers Uhura.

—This is Captain Kirk. What's up, Lieutenant?

"Captain, you have a call from the Federation. It seems to be an urgent matter, from what they told me."

—I'm coming, Uhura. Bones, call me when you have my test results.

So the captain stormed out the door of the medical room, leaving the doctor and his first officer behind.

—What am I going to do with that man?
Spock raised an eyebrow at the doctor's lament.

—For now, concentrate your efforts on diagnosing and treating the captain.

Bones ignored the Vulcan's comment to continue with his work, although normally he would respond, but the results displayed by the tricorder were incoherent, and there was a greater urgency to know what was wrong with his captain or his work materials.
Approximately 10 minutes passed when Miss Chapel arrived with the captain's blood test results. The doctor began to read them even though he could feel Spock behind him. A look of horror appeared on McCoy's face as he read a portion of the test. He almost screamed, which frightened Spock, who couldn't understand what was happening. Such high levels of hormones in the blood could only be possible if his captain had a serious illness.
McCoy stiffened and began yelling at Spock.

—Quick, no matter what Jim's doing, I need him here now!

Spock rushed off to bring the captain in at the Doctor's urgency.
Meanwhile, McCoy was preparing the ultrasound equipment because God knows he doesn't want to touch Jim. Even though they're very good friends, his specialty is something else, not urology for a reason.

—What's wrong, Bones? Why is Spock so upset?–James's face was filled with bewilderment.

—Okay, this will be awkward for both of us, Jim, but I need you to answer this truthfully.

—Ask me anything, Bones.

—Have you noticed any strange lumps around your balls?

—What the hell are you asking me?

—I told you it would be awkward. Now please answer.

The doctor's desperation was evident in the wrinkles on his face and in a slight tremor in his hands.

—No, for God's sake. What's the point of the question?

—Listen, Jim, your blood is copper deficient and also, more importantly, has a strange amount of human chorionic gonadotropin.

—But that's impossible.

—I know, Jim. The main reason the pregnancy hormone is present in such high amounts is because... I don't know if I can say this without making me nervous.

—Go on, Doctor.–Spock urged him on. He didn't know much about this subject, and the doctor's reaction made him somewhat uneasy.

—Jim may have testicular cancer.

Silence fell across the room. McCoy sat down to catch his breath, while Spock looked worriedly at Kirk, while the other stared back. The captain had never imagined his lethargy and the mild malaise he'd been feeling lately could be so serious.
The doctor broke the silence.

—We need to do an ultrasound. Are you up for it, Jim?

—Let's do it however you see fit, Bones.

Within minutes, they were ready for the procedure. As always, Spock remained by Kirk's side the entire time. He felt disturbed ¿How could he not be? His T'hy'la was in danger, possibly battling one of the diseases humans have yet to overcome.
McCoy ran the ultrasound over Jim's privates, puzzled to see nothing but the normal in his friend's testicles.

—Excuse me, doc–Nurse Chapel walks through the door without warning.—Oh, my God–the woman quickly covers her eyes.

Scared by Christine Chapel, Spock abruptly positions himself to block her view of Jim, scaring Bones, who drops the ultrasound machine on Jim's lower abdomen. The image projected by the machine changed completely, surprising McCoy. He couldn't believe what the screen was showing. It blinked many times without changing anything. After covering his friend's lower body, he grabbed the machine again and scanned Kirk's abdomen.

—Christine, come closer. I think I'm out of practice and my eyes are lying to me.

Seeing the secured environment, Chapel approached to observe the screen that Bones was pointing at, only to stare at it like a deer in the headlights of a truck, followed by Spock, very intrigued by what was shown on the screen.

—Doctor, I don't think I've ever seen this in a man's body, but it's clearly a uterus with two zygotes.

—You better tell me I'm crazy and seeing things, Christine.

—But this is illogical, scientifically impossible.
Spock looked at the image with remarkable admiration.

—¿What the hell is going on, Bones?

There were four people watching the screen, and none of them believed the images their brains were sending them; even Spock doubted himself.

—I don't know how to explain, Jim, but the tricorder was right and I think I should congratulate you for two.

Chapter 2: 4 are better than 2

Notes:

I forget to say, I'm gonna change and invent some things so don't expect this fanfic to be close to the canon, I trying to respect the personalities of the characters but te narrative obviously is no even close to the canon (we got Kirk pregnant of Spock, we don't wanna incidents of brains being robbed or something like that).
XOXO

Chapter Text

The couple remained in the infirmary looking at the ultrasound photos, slightly mesmerized by what were now two shapeless masses in Jim's body.

—I can't explain this, Captain. I think it's impossible, and yet it happened.

Spock took one of James's hands to reassure him that he didn't know the reason why this happened and to let him know that he had his full support.

—Well, Jim, I've contacted our Vulcan specialist to help me figure out how you're four weeks pregnant.

—Don't you have any idea, Spock?

—This took me by surprise, and as incredible as it may be, I have no answer, Doctor.

Dr. M'Benga arrived shortly after McCoy called him. He carried a stack of papers and began to explain something to the other doctor. The conversation went on long enough to worry everyone involved in this pregnancy, but luckily for them, McCoy seemed calmer after speaking with the other doctor.

—That's good. I'd rather you explain it, M'Benga. You're the one who understands the subject."

The doctors sat opposite the couple for a proper conversation.

—As I explained to Dr. McCoy, what you're going through is known in the common tongue as 'body modification through mind bond'.

—Is what happened to the captain because of our bond?

—That's right, I once attended one of these cases, it is rare and happens when a Vulcan joins a person with whom he cannot have offspring, I only knew this among male Vulcans, but it seems that it also happens when they mate with a human and according to terrestrial biology having children between 2 different species is only possible if they are similar and the chromosomes match, in case hybridization occurs the result would be a child that would never produce offspring.

—So how did I get pregnant of Spock? Believe me, I'm sure he's the only Vulcan who ever held my hand.

—It's possible, thanks to some ancient Vulcan force. It seems like a mechanism of the Vulcan mind to ensure the perpetuation of the species. With the influence of the bond, you slowly developed an ovary, a uterus, and a canal that allows you to deliver your children.

—Fascinating.

It was hard to surprise Spock, who was now amazed by the reproductive methods his body had developed.

—The captain should naturally have only felt a brief malaise and a lot of sleepiness since his body was developing new organs. Naturally, he wouldn't have noticed since he isn't aware of their functions like a Vulcan, but don't worry, Captain, it's a one-time trick.

—What does that mean?

—Once the pregnancy is over, the organs will naturally fall out and the canal will close, although you were unlucky enough to have two eggs fertilized. Apparently, to ensure reproduction, your single ovary released several eggs at the same time.

—Jim, you should know that as a doctor and as a friend, I will support you in whatever decision you make.

—It is logical to support you in what you want, Jim. You're the one with the high-risk pregnancy.

—I…

Kirk was thinking, well there was a lot to think about, he would probably have to take some time off and he didn't know if he was suitable to be a father, but they were his children, two children he would have with Spock. Spock may be a very serious man, but that made him perfect, he would be the fun dad and Spock the strict one. The only thing he was worried about was whether this would affect his position as captain of a starship, he couldn't leave his children with other people while he and Spock traveled through space, he would want to have them with him and that was dangerous (he didn't think the Federation would allow it either).

—Captain, you don't have to decide now, there's still time.

—No, I think it's prudent for me to continue with the pregnancy, although Spock will be responsible for convincing the fleet that they can't lose one of the best captains they have.

Spock raises an eyebrow and smiles slightly.

—That's right, Captain.

—You must also be responsible for me for the rest of your life, Spock.
Kirk looked at the Vulcan with an amused smile, trying to annoy him.

—If you're talking about us getting married, I've thought about it from the moment we joined, Captain. Now we just have to hurry, for obvious reasons.

It really was impossible to upset Spock, Kirk still wonders how he managed to win over that computer with a heart.

—Well, Vulcans are very traditional, Jim. You don't want your children to be born into sin.

This situation was starting to amuse McCoy, and little did he know that he would be severely affected by this, and his work hours would be increased by his stubborn captain. But the good news is that there will soon be a wonderful party for the entire crew.

—Should we notify the fleet first, or my parents?

—No, if someone in the Federation is indiscreet, Sarek could find out from others, and I don't think that would be good for you, after all, it's your family.

—Thank you for your consideration, Captain.

—See you tomorrow, McCoy, M'Benga.

Kirk says goodbye to the doctors and leaves with Spock at his side, heading to set course for Vulcano to notify her boyfriend's family of his pregnancy. If all goes well, he may have to notify the Federation of their wedding.

—Do you think it will surprise T'Pau?"

—Certainly, Captain. It's logical to assume she knows you're alive. However, you might surprise her with the fact that you will marry me.

—Please tell me I won't have to fight to the death for your hand again.

—Technically, you fought for T'Pring, not me.

Kirk looks at him with a smile.
—I like to think it was to keep you.

Spock gently takes his future husband's hand, placing their index and middle fingers in a tender kiss.

Chapter 3: After years in space, nothing is impossible

Chapter Text

Kirk and Spock entered the bridge, taking up their usual positions, as if nothing had happened in sickbay.

—Uhura, call Admiral Pike. I have an urgent message for the fleet.

—Yes, Captain.

—Lieutenant Sulu, have the Vulcan coordinates ready.

—Ready, Captain. May I ask why?

—You'll know soon.

—Admiral Pike is on the line, Captain. Should I put it on the screen?

—Of course, Lieutenant.

The vast space is replaced by Christopher Pike's face and the view of his office.

—Greetings to Captain Kirk.
Pike smiles broadly.

—Captain Kirk answers the admiral, greetings.

—What is it, Kirk? An unexpected call from you is unusual.

—Admiral, I called to request permission to divert our course and head for Vulcan.

—I need the reasons for this request, unfortunately.

—This is a family emergency involving my first officer, including myself. Rest assured, we'll send you a written report as soon as we arrive on Vulcan. This is urgent, please, Christopher.

Kirk looks pleadingly at his superior and mentor.

—Just because it's you, James, I suppose I can't deny a small request to one of the best captains the Federation has.

—Thank you very much, Admiral.

—Don't get too excited. I want that report as soon as you land on Vulcan. I'll also notify the local authorities to allow you to land as soon as you arrive.

—As you command, I bid Admiral Pike farewell.

—See you soon, Captain Kirk.

—You heard me, Sulu. Set a course for Vulcan.

—Understood, Captain. At our current speed, we'll arrive in two days and three Earth hours.

—Perfect.

Everyone on the bridge choked on the question, "What's this family emergency you mentioned, Captain?" But no one was brave enough to ask. It was better to wait for their captain to mention it of his own volition. After all, whenever it came to Spock, his captain was always very fussy.
Few on the crew knew about Kirk and Spock's relationship. For example, Uhura, thanks to her great insight, noticed it and simply asked the captain if he had trapped Spock for good. Then there were Sulu and Chéjov, who discovered it by accident when they were escaping from their duties to go drinking with Scotty. They were distracted until, in an empty hallway, they saw their two superiors saying goodbye at the entrance to the captain's quarters, with the typical gesture of Vulcan couples they saw between Ambassador Sarek and his wife. Both hid in shock for a long time. It must be said that engineer Scotty was one of the first to find out, in a similar way to Sulu and Chekhov, only he interrupted his captain and Spock red-handed (or with their hands clasped), he would have laughed at the green face Spock made when he saw them but he got a scolding from his captain for entering unannounced, it was so much that he even forgot that he had to urgently report a small fault in the engines.

Two days passed until Kirk called all his closest staff to the briefing room. Just hours before arriving on Vulcan, the captain would reveal his reasons for rushing to change course. Those who knew of their relationship feared they had fallen out and that was why Spock would leave the ship; after all, a captain cannot leave his ship. Everyone saw how their captain was increasingly absent. These days of travel were spent in sickbay with Dr. McCoy while Spock focused on his duties and attended to most of the captain's business. This greatly frightened a large part of the crew.

Kirk stood at the head of the table where he could observe the faces of those present. Obviously, Spock was standing behind him.

—You know very well that I called you because I have very important news to give you. It's something that could cost me my position as captain, and yet I decided to go ahead.

Everyone's face paled. It seemed the captain had intended to leave them, which was not at all satisfactory. Spock was a very good first officer, but most didn't believe he had the sense of a captain, even though he demonstrated it several times. Everyone believed it only worked when they had the dynamic duo of Kirk and Spock. Murmurs of hypotheses began to circulate around the table.

—Don't worry, Spock and I will try to prevent that from happening so we can remain on the Enterprise.

Everyone was wondering; "Why is the captain including Spock in the sentence?"

—As you may have noticed, I've been a little unwell these past few weeks, and a few days ago we discovered what was making me weak.

—Aren't you going to die, Captain? Tell us it's not true.

—No, Chéjov, I'm just pregnant.

—Oh, that explains a lot—the young man freezes. —Wait, but that's impossible, Captain.

—Theoretically it is, Officer Chéjov, but it's possible thanks to my species.
Spock gives a clarification.

At just 22 years old, Chéjov learned that when you travel through space, nothing is impossible.

—That's right, I'm pregnant thanks to Spock.

Congratulations began to echo around the room, especially from an excited Uhura, who asked if she could be the godmother.

—To be honest, we all thought that one day Spock would go through cell division and his children would emerge.
Scott mentioned.

—That's true, we never would have expected you to get pregnant.
Sulu was truly impressed by the revelation.

—What can I say? It's what happened.

—With that all cleared up, I ask for everyone's cooperation. Since the captain has our two children, it will be difficult for him to do strenuous work. Please do your best to take care of him.

—There are two of them?

Uhura has a big smile on her face; no one can tell if it's one of happiness or disbelief.

—That's right, I'm going to give birth to two little Vulcans.

—Is this the reason you're afraid the Federation will remove you from your position?

—That's what I'm afraid of, Scotty.

—Don't worry, Captain. If they don't let you stay with us, we'll resign and take the Enterprise. As an engineer, I would never allow anyone else to touch my precious ship.

Everyone nodded at what Scotty said; no one on the entire crew wants to lose the great Captain James T. Kirk.

—Well, we'll be arriving on Vulcan soon, and I want you to know that if the Vulcan elders approve, Spock and I will celebrate our wedding according to Vulcan traditions. Then we'll have a party on the ship and take a week off. You deserve it.

—We look forward to see that, Captain.
Everyone shouts in unison.

—You may return to your duties.

The room quickly empties, leaving Spock and Kirk alone, holding hands and sharing their emotions. They stare at each other in silence, their eyes reflecting the happiness they feel at that moment. They share their confidence and strength with each other for a while until Sulu announces that they are an hour away from landing on Vulcan.

—I suppose it's time to put on our fancy uniforms.

Spock raises an eyebrow.

—But Jim, we didn't come here on diplomatic business.

—I prefer to face your parents and the respected elders with a confident appearance.

—Uhm, that makes sense.

It's pretty hard to me write in this time because I'm on the exams period, I'm a student of veterinary medicine and this is hard (and is only the first year, but I love this career so I choose it a one hundred times)
Good luck to all of you <3

Chapter Text

The great Captain James T. Kirk is nervous because he fears Ambassador Sarek's reaction. He knows that Spock always takes his father's opinion into account even if he doesn't want to admit it himself. Kirk has seen deep into Spock's mind and knows about his constant struggle to isolate himself from his human side in order to obtain Vulcan approval. If Sarek says he doesn't approve of their union, he fears that her boyfriend will doubt their next steps. However, Kirk is also sure that Spock would never leave his place. He might hesitate, but he wouldn't let an old insecurity influence their relationship. Somehow, Kirk also wants the approval of his boyfriend's father so that their path to marriage will be one without accidents or diplomatic problems. He especially doesn't want to affect the treaties between the Federation and Vulcan.

Now he was writing a report on his family situation to Admiral Pike so he could send it before Spock's parents arrived and ripped his head off or something. He was the pregnant one, and yet he felt like the one who stole the flower from a pure Vulcan maiden, except for the fact that Spock wasn't a woman.

—Jim, have you finished the report? I received a message from my father that we can come to my home.

—I thought your parents were coming, as the ambassador usually does.

—That would be logical if we were on a diplomatic mission, but we're here on personal business, and that's what I told my parents. My mother then arranged for us to come over in an hour for dinner.

—Okay. Should I wear traditional Vulcan robes, or am I fine with the fleet uniform?

—I think no matter what you wears, the captain always looks good.

—I forget you're a secret flirt.

—It's not flirting, Jim, it's the truth.

The smile James has now couldn't be erased even by a phaser.

With the report sent, Kirk straightened his green shirt and took Spock's arm as he left for Spock's childhood home.

—Are you scared, Jim?

—I'd lie to you, but I can't really hide anything from you, so, yes.

—Don't worry, T'hy'la. My father has no logical reason to disapprove of our union. Our real challenge is elders like T'Pau.

—I suppose it's a human custom to feel nervous or afraid of rejection when asking one's parents for permission to marry, but what you say reassures me, somehow.

 —Everything will be fine, Jim.

Spock tightened his grip on his right arm, which is linked to Kirk's left. It was his logical task as a father and husband to calm the nerves of the man at his side to prevent him from suffering any discomfort.

Upon arriving at Spock's ancestral home, James was surprised to find that Ambassador Sarek's house was nothing like the opulent homes of the human ambassadors. It was medium-sized, blending into the brownstone surroundings, with no unnecessary decoration, and making good use of natural light, extremely practical and logical, as Vulcans typically are. Amanda and Sarek stood in the entryway ready to welcome their guests, the woman was quite excited to see her son again after the recent incident on the Enterprise. Both Vulcans extended their hands, forming a V between their fingers, and Kirk followed suit, making the salute to Sarek and Amanda.

—Please come in, dinner is already served.

Amanda enthusiastically invites them in, and the couple follows her. Kirk observes the surroundings with admiration. Everything looks so sober, practical, and boring, so it's no wonder Spock always acts like a computer. When they arrive in the dining room, they find a surprisingly colorful table, decorated with a beautiful vase (similar to those on Earth) filled with lilacs and white carnations. They sat down opposite Spock's parents, ready to eat and then tell them the reason for their visit. Dinner was pleasant for James, although strange for someone used to having several people talking about their day while eating.

Jim anxiously awaited the moment to finish so he could drop the bombshell and speak, oh my God, he really wanted to end this silence. When everyone had finished eating, Spock and James sat up straight to have the first word. However, Amanda, with a worried tone, was ready to break the silence as soon as she saw them tense up in their seats and noticed the other human's nervousness.

—Son, is there anything you want to tell us.

Amanda was quick to decipher her son and had some sensitivity to Vulcan microexpressions.

—Of course, but Jim said he wants to be the first to speak, so please proceed, Captain.

Jim clears his throat and prepares to give the most difficult statement of his career.

—Ambassador Sarek and Lady Amanda, I ask your blessing to marry your son. Of course, all of this has a logical explanation.

—Then explain what logic there is in marrying our son.

Sarek glares at Captain Kirk, while Amanda grabs her husband's shoulder to force him out of his threatening stance and allow the man to continue speaking.

—This may be hard to believe and shocking, but I'm pregnant, and Spock is the father.

Amanda leans on the table, clearly shocked by the revelation, while her husband only raises his eyebrows in curiosity.

—Mother and Father, I can spare you the explanation of how this happened, but it's true. The captain has both of my offspring in his womb, and my desire to marry him was absolute even before that happened.

—Two!

Amanda's face twists in surprise as she exclaims, and Kirk suspects Sarek's eyebrows were about to fall from his face, they were so high. Spock's parents hold hands, and Sarek continues the conversation.

—I believe we have no objection after hearing that. We will give our support for a traditional Vulcan wedding as soon as possible.

—Thank you very much for your support. Spock and I will be eternally grateful for that."

—Leave the matters with the elders to me. I'll take care of organizing the wedding. You just get ready.

—Thank you very much, Father. This means a lot.

So the captain and his first officer left to return to their ship, with happiness filling their hearts as they prepared for a great event.
