Letters sent to you

Summary:

Sam gets a secret admirer from someone who’s been sending letters to her, not knowing who it is. She doesn’t mind the letters she’s been receiving while suspecting who’s been sending her the letters. Little does she know, Sam realizes that Kyle is the one who’s been sending all of these letters to her.

Notes:

Hi everyone! Here’s another Samyle oneshot for you all! Sorry for the lack of fics lately, college has been really taking up my free time and I’m having some personal issues and some pains in my chest so I plan on going to the doctors soon for a checkup, but I will be fine. Anyways, I always love it when the guy or girl character writes love letters for their crush and I decided to do that with Samyle! Mainly Kyle in this case lol.

So to all of the boys I loved before movies really inspired me to write this oneshot, but Sam, Kyle and Nathan are in their junior year of high school in terms of this fic in case if anyone is wondering! For now, sit tight and grab your popcorn because this is gonna be a good oneshot, enjoy!! :D

Work Text:

Sam wasn’t the type of person to receive letters from someone, she didn’t even consider even getting one in the first place because of how unlikely she would receive one. But one day she received a letter in her locker while she was putting her stuff away and getting ready to head to her next class, she saw the letter on top of her locker door. She took it out of the envelope, reading the words that were written on the paper, it was written in a red pen, with really nice handwriting to be exact. But she was unsure who wrote it to her, let alone how and why this person had a crush on her.

“Every step you take is like a journey through the struggles you have gone through, every word you said impacted your life and yet- every time I look at you, my throat goes dry like sandpaper. My cheeks heat up at the sight of your light blue eyes shining like a million stars in the night sky, if only you were able to see how much you light up the world with just your presence. Like you have done to me.

From, your secret admirer.”

Sam reread the letter again, it was sweet and sounding very poetic from how the person wrote it. But she still was confused as to who was this person writing this letter to her, the brunette put the letter inside her backpack as she went to her next class of the day, still thinking about who wrote it to her.

By lunch, Nathan spent some time with Sam to keep her company because she usually sat by herself at lunch and she didn’t mind him being there. Besides, he was a good friend to her. She told him about the letter she had received and she took it out so her friend could have a look at it. Nathan wasn’t a theorist or anything like that. But he simply gave her a smile and nudged her shoulder, “Maybe this person likes you! You may never know how they truly feel about you, Sam. Maybe they’re too shy to say anything so they just wrote it all down on paper!” He told her, giving her his usual smile.

Sam hummed to herself as she put the letter back in her backpack, “Probably, but it’s weird that someone would put it in my locker. The letter is sweet though don’t get me wrong, Nathan. It’s just.. confusing who sent it to me, you know?” She replied with confusion, raising an eyebrow at him. “Yeah I get that, well let me know if anything else happens with the letters because this is already getting interesting!” Nathan continued enthusiastically.

“Will do!” Sam concluded.

Lunch had come to an end as Sam said goodbye to Nathan as she headed off to her next class for the day, still thinking about the secret admirer who sent her the letter but she had to stay focused on her schoolwork for the day. But as the final class had ended for her, Sam exited the class and went outside of the school, seeing her mom’s car in front of the school. She hopped inside, telling her mother about her day and how she got a letter sent to her. Of course, her mother would know about it and hear her say, “That is so sweet! Your father would send me love letters all the time when I was your age, Sam. But whoever is sending you these letters, they are probably too shy to say it to you in person and rather express their feelings in a letter. Maybe they’ll come around and tell you in person.” She told her.

“I guess so, I don’t mind the letter though, it’s.. pretty sweet!” Sam said, with a smile on her face.

As the day rolled around, Sam was already getting ready for bed, she laid down in her bed, holding the letter in her hand as she reread it over and over again. It was still confusing who sent it to her but she pushed that thought aside and focused on the words instead, hearing how this person noticed the struggles that she went through and how pretty her eyes were. The thought of it made her blush at this, but those were just words on a piece of paper, how can it mean so much to her when she doesn’t even know who wrote it to her?

At this, Sam felt her eyes closing as she put the letter under her drawer in her nightstand as she turned off the lamp and got under the covers and dozed off to sleep.

Days passed by since Sam got her first love letter from the secret admirer she has been getting and the letters had been piling up in her locker little by little, on Tuesday. She had gotten a letter during her passing period, this time it was much sweeter and more romantic than the last letter she had received. Sam told Nathan about the letter she had given to and he thought that the handwriting was familiar to someone that he knew. Jokingly he said that it might’ve been Kyle who was the one who wrote the letters to her, but Sam was surprised at this and shook it off, considering that he wasn’t the type of person to write letters to her.

But the more Sam thought about what Nathan said, the more the letters kept coming in.

Wednesday rolled around and another letter came in her locker, along with some candy, Sour Patch kids to be specific. They were her favorite candy after all, but the thought lingered in her head.. the same thought she had thought of for a while now, the person who was sending her these letters still filled her mind with questions and possibilities who it could be that would be sending them to her. What was even more surprising was that on Thursday, Sam opened her locker and received a box of chocolates and some roses in them.

Along with a third and final letter included.

“What the..?” Sam said to herself, completely confused but yet still had a soft feeling in her heart from seeing the gifts she has received.

Before Sam could get the letter out of the locker, Nathan passed by her and saw the contents in her locker. “Woah, what is all of this?” Nathan exclaimed, sounding surprised by the chocolates and roses inside of her locker. “Now, this is what a secret admirer is all about! This guy totally likes you!” He continued, putting a hand on his hip as Sam faced her friend, her cheeks heating up a bit. “You're not helping! This has been the third letter I have been receiving lately, I’m considering it’s someone we know at this point!” Sam went on, finally getting the letter out of her locker and closing the door and locking it with her lock that was on the door.

“Really?” Nathan added.

“Duh, no shit.” Sam acknowledged, now opening the letter and reading it, her eyes scanning the words on the page. She read it carefully, with Nathan reading the letter as well, he noticed something. The handwriting, the color of the pen that the person was using to write these letters, the constant gifts that they would send to Sam and even the way they wrote the letters struck something in him. “Sam! I know who wrote these letters!” Nathan called out to her, making Sam bring her attention towards him. “Who?!” She replied.

“Kyle! I knew about it before but I was still unsure if it was him who’s been sending it to you, but now I know! It’s his handwriting!” Nathan explained, his voice filled with enthusiasm and joy.

“What?! Kyle?” Sam continued, her voice filled with surprise and shock, she didn’t know that Kyle would be the one to send these letters to her. She knew that he wouldn’t even dare to write one of those letters to anyone, but he wrote it to her.. he gave her the box of chocolates, the roses. All of those sweet and loving words he wrote to her, it was all him. Kyle wrote it all for her to read. By this, Sam opened the letter again and seeing the end of it, telling her to meet him after school at the football field. “Nathan, I know what to do.” She told him, folding the letter in her pocket as she looked at her friend.

“You're going to talk to Kyle about this, right?” Nathan asked her.

“Yep and I know how to tell him about the letters.” Sam explained, smiling at him as Nathan gave her a thumbs up for moral support.

“Alrighty! Good luck, Sam! I believe in you!” Nathan concluded.

6:00 PM.

Sam messaged her mom that she will be a bit late coming home from school because she had some stuff to do, in reality. She went to the football field where Kyle told her to meet her at, with the air being chilly and the breeze coming through and the sky being a mix of blue and pink colors. Knowing that it was going to be a long night for her, Sam made her way to the football field with all three letters in hand and saw Kyle standing in the field, looking up at the sky. “Hey!” Sam shouted, making Kyle turn around and look at her in surprise. “Sam?” Kyle replied, his eyes widening in realization, she was here.. she made it.

“So you're the one who’s been sending me all of these letters?” Sam started, approaching him as she saw Kyle blush and cross his arms. “Uh.. yeah, it was me.” Kyle muttered nervously, his heart pounding in his chest. Sam smiled as she let out a giggle, her giggle piercing through the boy’s heart as the brunette stopped her giggling and began to talk to him. “I wasn’t expecting you would be the one to send me these letters and the gifts too, I thought you weren’t usually interested in writing love letters and poems and bringing gifts.” Sam explained to him, making eye contact with him as she unzipped her backpack to put the letters back inside and zipping her backpack up as she sat the bag down on the floor.

“But I realized something, it’s sweet that you have been writing me these letters, Kyle. But why didn’t you tell me in person before? I don’t mind the letters but I was just.. confused and wondering why you didn’t tell me in person.” Sam went on, confusion and wonder was heard in her tone of voice. Kyle sighed, avoiding her gaze as he bit the inside of his cheek, his foot tapping against the perennial ryegrass. He felt his heart pounding in his chest by the millisecond, he couldn’t keep his feelings in any longer.

“I…” He muttered under his breath.

“I was too nervous to tell you in person, I was afraid you might think of me as just a friend or you may not like me back. Whatever you may see me as, but.. I was nervous to tell you and If I thought I would send you those letters anonymously, it would give me the opportunity to tell you of how I feel about you, Sam.” Kyle explained, now looking straight into her light blue eyes, he sighed, thinking of what to say next to her. “But yes you are right, I’m not the type of person to write letters to someone and give them flowers or chocolates. But when it came to you, I just.. starting falling for you. Like, really really hard. I know it’s stupid to have these feelings for you and I just had to let them out somehow.. so that’s why I wrote the letters in the first place, so you can know how I feel about you.” He concluded, his voice gentle and soft.

Sam blushed at hearing Kyle’s words, her cheeks heating up into a light tint of pink as she smiled softly at him, her heart beating in her chest. She never knew that Kyle had this soft side under him and yet.. It was sweet that he still wrote the letters for her, not because he was struggling with how to express his feelings to her. But rather endearing that he cared about her so much, that he had fallen in love with her more than anything. Sam chuckled, walking close to him as she held his hand, feeling how cold his hands were underneath her skin.

“You’re sweet, Sanders.” Sam whispered softly, her voice sweet and kind, gazing into Kyle’s dark green eyes, seeing his cheeks getting redder by the second. “Your feelings aren’t stupid, they’re valid, actually. You sending me those letters actually made me realize something, your words really impacted my life for the past couple of days and honestly.. I would reread your letters over and over again from how nice and wonderful they are! And the chocolates and the roses you gave me, that’s really nice of you, Kyle.” Sam continued, her smile widening once she said those words to him.

“So.. um.. thank you, for sending me the letters, Kyle. I’m really glad that it was you that sent them to me.” Sam murmured as she got on her tippy toes, closing her eyes as she leaned in, kissing Kyle on the cheek, her lips softly pressing against his cheek. Kyle however, was in total shock, he felt Sam’s lips pressing against his cheek.. her hand holding his. She kissed him, she thought that his letters were the most precious and sweetest thing in the entire world. He felt his heart race in his chest, his cheeks burning and he felt like he was about to fall on the ground.

After a couple of seconds, Sam pulled away from Kyle’s cheek, lowering herself down to get back on her feet, while still holding Kyle’s hand in the process. She saw him dozing off for a couple of moments before he snapped back into reality, Kyle brought his attention back to Sam, gazing into her eyes as he held her hand in return. Interlocking his fingers with hers, her hands were so warm.. so soft, they were so gentle and warm. “Sam, I... there’s something else I need to tell you as well.” Kyle told her, sounding serious.

“Go ahead, I’m all ears.” Sam said, letting him proceed with his sentence.

Kyle had the words on the tip of his tongue, the words he had been wanting to say to her since forever, why couldn’t he get them out? Why was this so hard for him? He needed to say it, now.

“I… god this is so hard.” Kyle muttered under his breath, taking a deep breather.

He knows this, he knows that those three words are on the tip of his tongue, but it was so hard for him to get it out.

But there was one way to say it without speaking.

With his free hand, Kyle put his hand on Sam’s cheek, creasing it gently with his thumb. Seeing her cheeks heat up immediately, her eyes filled with wonder and curiosity. Without any second thought, Kyle closed his eyes and leaned in, kissing Sam, his lips pressing against hers as he kissed her softly. Her lips felt so soft, so sweet, were they always this soft? So delicate, so enchanting. Sam’s eyes widened by the sudden kiss that Kyle gave her, her eyebrows raised upwards as she closed her eyes slowly and kissed him back in return. Wrapping her arms around his neck to have something to hold on to.

The kiss was gentle and filled with everlasting love and affection, the air flowing through them as the kiss went on for a while. What felt like forever, Kyle was the first one to pull away from the kiss, opening his eyes to meet with Sam, who opened her eyes as well. “I love you, Sam.” Kyle confessed, his voice gentle and kind, his cheeks still a light shade of red. He finally got the words out, the words he had been wanting to say to her for a long time and now he had finally said it to her. Sam smiled lovingly at him as she let out a small giggle, “I love you too, Kyle.” Sam replied in a kind and loving tone to her voice, now hugging him and  wrapping her arms around Kyle’s waist.

“Took you forever to say that.” Sam continued with a giggle as Kyle let out a laugh and kissed the top of her head. “Yeah, I guess I did. But I really do love you, Sam.” Kyle acknowledged, seeing Sam look up at him and let go from the embrace, now holding his hands again. “I’m glad.. because I do like you back Kyle, I know we started off on a rough start but I realized that you changed for the better and with your sweet words. The way you care about people like you care about me, that’s someone I want to be with forever and I want to be with you.” Sam confessed, her smile never fading away from her lips.

“And besides, you’re cute when you get all shy like that, Kyle.” Sam teased, letting out a laugh as Kyle rolled his eyes and groaned. “Jeez, Sam!” Kyle said embarrassingly but he couldn’t help to smile back at her when she said that to him, Sam’s laughing died down a bit as she continued to smile at him and her hands still holding his own. “Should we get going? It’s going to get dark soon.” Sam reminded him, letting him know that it was getting late. Kyle looked at the sky, seeing that it was a dark shade of blue, the sun already setting as he looked back at Sam and nodded with agreement.

“Yeah, let’s get going. I’ll drive you home, Sam.” Kyle continued, walking with her out of the football field, with Sam along his side. The two left the school together as Sam got inside the car and Kyle put the keys in the ignition, starting up the car, the two left the school as Kyle drove off to Sam’s house to drop her off. The car ride was not too long or not too short, but it made it a lot more fun by having some music in the car as the two sang along to the songs that Kyle had on his Spotify playlist. Sam didn’t mind the types of songs that he had on there because she enjoyed them as well.

Once they arrived at Sam’s home, Kyle stopped the car as he saw Sam unbuckling her seatbelt. “Thanks for driving me home!” Sam thanked him, getting her backpack as she held it in her hands, giving him her usual smile. Kyle smiled back at her, seeing her light blue eyes gazing into his own eyes. “It’s no problem, Sam! Anytime, let me know if you need a ride someday. I don’t mind driving you to places.” Kyle told her, letting her know that it was okay that he could drive her to whenever she needed to go. Sam chuckled as she tilted her head and put her hand on the handle of the car, “I will Kyle.” She replied.

“And if you ever want to… you know, want to have a date together. We can plan something together if you want to..” Kyle said quietly, now blushing again, Sam smiled softly at him. A date with him sounded perfect for her and she didn’t mind it at all, because whatever he had planned for it. Or rather in this case, the both of them, she didn’t mind where they were going to go for the date. “I don’t mind, that sounds like fun! Just text me the details, okay?” Sam told him, seeing Kyle nod in response. “I will!” He confirmed.

“Oh, and one more thing.” Sam added, now leaning in to kiss Kyle on the cheek again, giving him a small peck before pulling away and smiling at him. “That was for you, for the letters you sent to me. It was really sweet of you, Kyle.” She whispered, her voice soft and low, now opening the door and getting out of the car, putting on her backpack as she gave him a small wave. “See you later!” Sam said, now closing the door as she walked towards her house and opening the door and walking inside her home. Kyle smiled back at her, giving her a small wave as he saw her heading inside her home and closing the door.

He put the keys back in the ignition, starting up the car again as he made his drive back home. Putting the music back on as it filled the speakers in the car, Kyle thought about the letters that he sent to Sam, he never knew that she would accept them. Let alone even reading them in the first place, but realizing that it wasn’t just the notes that drew them together or Kyle’s love for Sam. It was their presence that meant to him, Sam’s love meant the most to him, the way she kissed him on the cheek. Her smile brightening up his day and her bright blue eyes sparkling in the light, making her look ethereal as ever.

Maybe the letters that Kyle wrote for Sam did bring him together with her, his sweet words and endearing love for her, he really got the girl he wanted in the very end. And he couldn’t have it any other way than this, because he has Sam by his side and that’s all that counts to him in the end.
