Yet Another Runaway Wolf

Summary:

Wednesday has a promise to keep. She is going to find Enid, no matter what. The question remains, who will Enid be when she's found?

Notes:

Surprise! I'm alive!

I don't know how long I have been gone for. My gosh.

I've seen so many takes on how this could go, so I decided to do my own, as a lover of angst among lesbians. If you aren't new to my writing, you know I am not shy with the angst.

Certain characters might be written badly. I always warn this with fics. Please let me know if you have any feedback regarding that - however, I already have a bunch of chapters written, so it may not be implemented until further down the road.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Enid waited, wishing she could echo Agnes's desperate pleas for Wednesday to wake up. In that agonizing time, despite her fur, she felt cold with dread.

So deep in the panic that Wednesday might not wake up that she didn't pay attention to the fact that she could hear that the heartbeat was still there. It was strong again.

Then Wednesday's eyes opened. She smirked a rare smirk and her first sentence was that only an Addams would say after nearly being buried alive.

Then their eyes met, and her demeanor shifted instantly.

Her eyes softened as she looked Enid over. Her expression, though subtle, showed unmistakable realization and dismay.

“Enid?”

A tone so soft one might not believe it came from Wednesday Addams. A tone that made Enid's heart ache.

“It was the only way to save you.” Agnes solemnly explained in Enid's place.

Wednesday didn't even look at the girl speaking. She just continued staring at Enid, their eyes locked.

If Enid physically could have cried, she would have. If she could have hugged Wednesday like last year, she would have.

But she couldn't.

Her mind shifted, emotions fighting.

Who knew if she would stay herself or if she would turn into a bloodthirsty monster?

The urge to protect Wednesday, to protect Wednesday from her, won in the end.

With a pained, longing growl, Enid ran off before she could change her mind. Before fear could take over. Before the urge to stay by Wednesday could take over.

She heard Wednesday say something, heard her voice thick with a rare expression of emotion, but she didn't turn back. She couldn't.
