AND IS CLASSIFIED AT SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL 5.

FULL ACCESS REQUIRES A CLASS W-Z MNESTIC (OR EQUIVALENT)

Item #: SCP-8664

Object Class: Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8664 poses no threat and does not require containment. At least one Foundation personnel member or authorized actor must possess the mnestic training to interact with, retain knowledge of, and protect SCP-8664 and to contain instances of SCP-8664-A.

Authorized personnel must be immediately dispatched if SCP-8664 appears unstable or if SCP-8664-A is detected. Under no circumstances may untrained persons come into contact with SCP-8664-A. No cure against the cognitohazardous effects of SCP-8664-A is known to exist.

The destruction of SCP-8664 is considered an CK-class end-of-the-world scenario. No contingency exists. Also, see Addendum 8664-2 and 8664-3.

Description: SCP-8664 is an interdimensional barrier arising from excitations of an unknown source field with self-censoring properties, i.e. antimemetic camouflage. The barrier envelops the entire Earth and appears as multiple unbroken, cascading lines. The shape of the barrier follows the surface of the Earth as well as any man-made objects, as close as ██ cm and as far as ██ km. The field intensity is directly correlated with changes to the barrier appearance in the visual electromagnetic spectrum (see Addendum 8664-2). The power spectrum has been observed to be highest when it takes a gold rainbow color.

The field is not known to interact with physical fields or elementary particles other than EM fields or light; however, SCP-8664 seems to respond to rhythmic variations in acoustic pressure as well as homogenous, synchronized variations in emotion from large, concentrated groups of humans. The physical mechanism of this response is not known. Sufficiently strong responses result in visible oscillations of the barrier intensity which propagate for tens or hundreds of kilometers. Induced oscillations are generally safe, but see Addendum 8664-1 and Addendum 8664-3.

The field intensity constantly varies at random, but its strongest region has been traced to Jeju Island, approximately 83 km south of the Republic of Korea. Neither SCP-8664 nor its composite field have been detected beyond the Earth’s stratosphere.

Information regarding SCP-8664 and SCP-8664-A is subject to antimemetic corrosion depending on the producer and medium of the information.

  • Untrained subjects are incapable of perceiving, interacting with, and remembering SCP-8664(-A).
  • Film photography and video, as well as their electronic equivalents, are corrupted immediately upon production. SCP-8664(-A) is completely absent in the produced media.
  • Drawings, paintings, and textual material can be produced if the creator possesses mnestic enhancements or training to retain knowledge of SCP-8664(-A).
  • There is no known audio evidence of SCP-8664(-A)’s existence, nor a method of obtaining such evidence.

Drawings and paintings are subject to gradual antimemetic decay, the rate of which depends on the detail and accuracy of such information. Textual material, both physical and digital, regardless of content, is immune to decay.

The area encompassing the surface of Jeju Island, extending approximately ██ km outward from its coast and extending upward about ██ km, is partially immune to the antimemetic effects of SCP-8664. Untrained subjects may still require mnestics to comprehend the entirety of SCP-8664(-A) (See Log 8664-H). Subjects without extra mnestic training lose all memory of SCP-8664(-A) upon leaving the range of immunity.

Under normal circumstances, matter and information are incapable of crossing the barrier. Sufficiently large disruptions to the structural integrity of SCP-8664’s composite field permit the transmission of tangible matter, namely SCP-8664-A, which consists of sentient cognitohazardous entities that spontaneously arise and emerge from the barrier. These entities usually take the form of ██████ derived from ██████ mythology, but they are also known to take the form of humans and wild animals.

SCP-8664-A is able to impart antimemetic camouflage—identical to that of SCP-8664—onto any person with whom it comes into contact. Any untrained person will then experience malaise, memory loss, psychosis, paralysis, coma, and death. Public knowledge and memory of the person is subject to slow antimemetic corrosion, requiring years or decades to decay. [REDACTED] is the only known subject who is naturally immune to all antimemetic effects of SCP-8664(-A). See Log 8664-R.

No method of verbal or digital communication through barrier disruptions is known to exist.

Subjects who undergo mnestic training become immune to the antimemetic effects of SCP-8664 and the deleterious effects of SCP-8664-A. Such subjects are subsequently able to materialize personalized close-combat weapons that can eliminate instances of SCP-8664-A upon contact. The composition of such weapons is unknown, but Experiment 8664-K may indicate that their constituent particles arise from the same field as SCP-8664.

Acquisition: The earliest record of SCP-8664’s existence was in the early 15th century CE. The exact identity of its constructor is not known, but records indicate the constructor was a group of three female residents of Jeju Island, who gave SCP-8664 the colloquial name of “███████.” The exact method of construction was never recorded.

The constructors adopted the title of ██████ and maintained the integrity of SCP-8664, exploiting the response mechanism described previously. The ███████ then developed methods and training procedures to materialize defensive weapons from SCP-8664. All ███████ are to be considered authorized actors for the protection of SCP-8664 and containment of SCP-8664-A.

History: Jeju Island’s natural immunity to antimemetic corrosion enabled its residents to detect SCP-8664-A. Records also indicate that the island was the only location where SCP-8664-A could arise spontaneously, which influenced the residents to bear the responsibility of containing or eliminating SCP-8664-A. SCP-8664 thus achieved religious significance for its abilities as a protective barrier and natural amnestic that shielded those outside of the island from the harmful effects of SCP-8664-A. The barrier’s present maintainers trace their lineage back to the original ███████, every generation of which has undergone the requisite mnestic training.

The advent of antimemetic studies in the Foundation prompted the discovery of SCP-8664, approximately ███ years after its construction. Field agent C████ █████████ made first contact with the ████████, who were cooperative and provided information regarding the nature of SCP-8664(-A) and the history of the ███████. See Log 8664-H. A complete archive is available at Site-██.

Addendum 8664-1: On 2025/██/██, ██:██, an oscillation (Event 8664-1A) was detected in SCP-8664’s field, which was more intense and long-lived than any observation on record. The amplitude was triple that of the average field magnitude, and the oscillations propagated around the Earth’s circumference one time. The source of the oscillation was [REDACTED], who was contained on the same day from ██:██ – ██:██. See Log 8664-R for transcript of interrogation.

Log 8664-H: First contact between the Foundation and the maintainers of the barrier occurred at Jeju Island. The following is a paraphrased transcript of the initial encounter, translated from Korean to English.

<BEGIN TRANSCRIPT>

Agent: Excuse me. Are you the caretaker of this facility?

[REDACTED]: Who are you?

Agent: My name is C████ █████████.

[REDACTED]: How did you find this place?

Agent: I represent a very specialized organization—a Foundation of sorts. My team and I have detected an anomalous entity emanating from this region. Are you already aware of this?

[REDACTED]: Yes. I believe I am.

Agent: Then you know the damage that ensues when the entity distorts.

[REDACTED]: How do you know about ██████?

Agent: About what?

[REDACTED]: ██████. And the ███████. You see it, don’t you?

Agent: Sorry, I can’t understand you. Do you mean the entity?

[REDACTED]: Yes. The ███████. It connects us all. We power it, defend it, so that it may shield us from the ██████ who steal our souls.

Agent: If it’s for protection, why do malicious anomalies come out of… it? I still don’t understand what you’re saying.

[REDACTED]: How did you become aware of this?

Agent: I don’t know how you say it in Korean [1]. Regardless, this region is not safe. The Foundation will evacuate the island and contain the anomaly.

[REDACTED]: That won’t be necessary.

Agent: Why?

[REDACTED]: We already safeguard the ███████ and ensure your safety. There is no danger present, for we are ███████, voices strong, slaying ██████ with our song.

Agent: Those words again—I didn’t catch them. Slaying what?

[REDACTED]: Fix the world, and make it right, when darkness finally meets the light.

Agent: I’m sorry, what exactly is it that you do?

[REDACTED]: Come with me to the [REDACTED].

FOOTNOTES.

[1] Agent █████████ wanted to say “combination mnestic anti-cognitohazardous drugs.”

Following this exchange, Agent █████████ was debriefed on the purpose, history, and formation of SCP-8664. Agent concluded that immediate containment was unnecessary, and [REDACTED] agreed to a second, more detailed meeting on ████/██/██.

Additionally, due to Agent █████████’s confusion during contact, the standard prescribed dosage of class-W mnestics was doubled for agents working with SCP-8664(-A).

Log 8664-J: The second meeting was attended by lead SCP-8664 researcher Dr. Hahn and MTF operative M█████ K███. The ███████ allowed them to produce notes and copies of the information contained within [REDACTED] which Agent █████████ previously saw and corroborated. A complete archive is now stored at Site-██. A notable gap in knowledge from all parties is the precise origins of SCP-8664-A; a proposal for a separate entry for SCP-8664-A was submitted and rejected.

During the meeting, Operative K███ received class-W mnestics and began an accelerated mnestic training regimen, curated by all three of the ███████. See Experiment 8664-K. Other discussion topics included SCP-8664 field strength, its response mechanisms, its antimemetic capabilities and limitations, and a demonstration of weaponry.

The full details of the meeting, as well as limited transcripts, are locked in a secure vault at Site-██.

Experiment 8664-K: Upon completion of Operative K███’s training, several experiments were conducted to assess the nature of SCP-8664(-A). The following is the experiment log, recorded by Dr. Hahn.

Test: Summoning a weapon of choice from the field of SCP-8664

Subject: Operative K███

Protocol: Mentally sense or physically touch SCP-8664. Let it will the weapon into existence.

Results: Subject summoned multiple weapons resembling traditional Korean weapons, each lasting 3-10 seconds. Subject reported that no conscious thought went into the selection of the type of weapon. Subject successfully summoned a non-functioning rifle for 4 seconds and unsuccessfully tried to summon vehicles and artillery. Subject reported “odd sensations” emanating from SCP-8664 in all cases.

Test: Measuring reaction of SCP-8664 upon elimination of SCP-8664-A

Subject: Operative K███

Protocol: Set up magnetometer and psi-monitors. Wait in [REDACTED], where an instance of SCP-8664-A may spawn. Attempt to summon a weapon and eliminate the instance. Observe magnetometer and psi-monitors. ███████ are supervising in case the subject fails to summon or wield weapon.

Results: Subject summoned a weapon upon arrival of SCP-8664-A, but weapon dissolved before attack. ████ ███████ intercepted and eliminated the instance. No measurable changes in SCP-8664 were detected.

Following this experiment, the Antimemetics Division and the ███████ combined resources to develop highly specialized sensors, called the ideatic seismometer, which could interact with SCP-8664 and record ephemeral data. Improvements enabled mechanical data collection onto paper, which Foundation researchers digitally reproduced for analysis. A full description of the device is available at Site-██.

Test: Measuring and recording ripples in SCP-8664 field strength

Subject: Operative K███, Dr. Hahn

Protocol: Set up psi-monitor and ideatic seismometer in various spots around Jeju Island (see Map 8664-M). Record data until a ripple passes over; then continue recording for another minute.

Results: One ripple occurred 23 minutes and 18 seconds after start of experiment. Direction of propagation was west. Western sensors picked up the oscillating ripple at the same measured intensity and the same time as eastern sensors. Once the ripple passed over western sensors, the measured intensity was weaker.

Test: Measuring response of SCP-8664 to rhythmic variations in acoustic pressure

Subject: Operative K███

Protocol: Set up psi-monitor and ideatic seismometer around and inside the ██████ █████ concert stage. Allow ███████ to perform one set list for an audience of ████ people.

Results: Operative K███ observed large “splotches” moving across the barrier, with brighter and shinier colors. Psi-monitor overloaded and recorded no usable data. Ideatic seismometer recorded no measurable change until conclusion of performance; field strength then increased drastically, before settling to slightly above average levels. Field remained above average for approximately three hours.

Test: Spectral analysis of oscillations in SCP-8664 during disruption events and idle oscillation

Subject: Operative K███, Dr. Hahn

Protocol: Set up psi-monitor, mnesticized cameras, and ideatic seismometer in various spots around Jeju Island (see Map 8664-P) and the Korean peninsula (see Map 8664-Q). Record data for 24 hours.

Results: 17 ripples were detected due to an unknown number of disruptions across the observed area. Cross-correlation between all pairs of ripple signals revealed constant attenuation over time, but it also revealed zero time delay between the detection of any two signals. According to cameras, visual changes only occurred on arrival for both ripple and idle oscillations.

Following the experiments, Dr. Hahn developed the theory that SCP-8664 operates as a “window” between two opposing memetic realities; he denoted them “causal” and “non-causal.” Experiments showed that the barrier natively emanates non-causal time-domain signals, yet they triggered causal excitations in the visual EM band.

A proposal to move material and operations regarding SCP-8664 to Temporal Site-██ was submitted and accepted in part. Only the causality-breaking or otherwise temporally anomalous data was transferred to Temporal Site-██. Further experiments are logged in the site's archives.

Log 8664-R: Foundation field agents traced the source of Event 8664-1A to within 500 km of Seoul, Republic of Korea. Mnesticized surveillance cameras atop ███████ █████ captured the source triggering the onset of the oscillation, thereby pinpointing the location. Field agents then confirmed the source to be [REDACTED]. MTF forces were deployed, and [REDACTED] was subsequently contained at ██:██ on 2025/██/██.

Full identification of [REDACTED] was performed at Area-██, where it was discovered that, although apparently human, she was an instance of SCP-8664-A. However, she displayed none of the typical aggressive behavior or harmful abilities. Upon closer examination, [REDACTED] was found to be immune to the effects of SCP-8664-A. Additionally, she was a member of the popular music girl-group known as ███████—an authorized actor.

DNA and blood samples were taken, and X-rays and MRI scans were done of her entire body. All data was sent to on-site laboratories before waking the subject. The following is the interrogation transcript.

INTERVIEWER: DR. HAHN

INTERVIEWEE: [REDACTED]

TIME OF INTERVIEW: 2025/██/██ ██:██

LOCATION: ████████, REPUBLIC OF KOREA

<BEGIN LOG>

[REDACTED]: (Korean) Hmm… huh? Where did the sky and—

Dr. Hahn: (English) Try not to move too fast. Do not be alarmed. My name is Dr. Hahn. I believe we’ve met before.

[REDACTED]: (English) I was just on the tower. How did you… (subject notices her exposed arms and begins to hyperventilate) No, no, no, NO—

Dr. Hahn: It’s okay. The Foundation is aware. There is nothing to be afraid of. Do you remember when you first told us?

[REDACTED]: —NO! No—what? Who are you? Where did—how did you, where is—where am I?!

Dr. Hahn: I am Dr. Hahn of the SCP Foundation. You are, as you explained to us █ months ago, a half-█████ half-human hybrid. Do you remember me now?

[REDACTED]: No. I’m a hunter.

Dr. Hahn: Yes. Do you remember how you told us about your █████ father?

[REDACTED]: (no response)

Dr. Hahn: Do you recognize this place? Are you recalling any of our conversations?

[REDACTED]: …Yes. I have been here before.

Dr. Hahn: I brought you here because I have a few questions.

[REDACTED]: Did you—

Dr. Hahn: No, I didn’t tell them. Only the Foundation is aware.

[REDACTED]: What—

Dr. Hahn: Security cameras. Special sensors that our team and your forebearers helped to develop.

[REDACTED]: How did—

Dr. Hahn: We have a secret base of operations in Korea.

[REDACTED]: But—

Dr. Hahn: Airlift. Amnestic cloak.

[REDACTED]: (looks around randomly)

Dr. Hahn: The previous times we met, we’ve had to wipe your memory afterwards. This time won’t be any different. But we need you now, so we just administered a dose to reverse the memory loss. Then we woke you up.

[REDACTED]: We’ve talked how many times now? Five?

Dr. Hahn: Six.

[REDACTED]: It’s about my powers again, isn’t it? I was on the tower, and I…

Dr. Hahn: Yes. I’m glad to see your memory is returning. Most people are not this resilient to flip-flopping between amnestics and mnestics. You are not most people.

[REDACTED]: (no response)

Dr. Hahn: The Foundation doesn’t fully understand your powers, and that’s why we need you again. You’re immune to the ██████’ antimemetic camouflage. Natively. And yet, you’re part of them.

[REDACTED]: (silence) Yes.

Dr. Hahn: When you triggered the ripple in the ███████, what were you feeling? As precise as possible, please.

[REDACTED]: What do you need from me? I can just do some experiments again.

Dr. Hahn: Just an answer to my question. This ripple was rather unprecedented. We need to know what happened.

[REDACTED]: Are you saying I… This isn’t the first time I’ve affected the ███████. I don’t do it on purpose! But, sometimes, the emotions are just—it’s very strong. And my █████ scream leaks through. This time was the worst so far. If I’m here, then… Dr. Hahn, am I damaging it?

Dr. Hahn: Was it more internal or external? Did you consciously feel the ███████ when you—

[REDACTED]: I’ll answer your question if you answer mine.

Dr. Hahn: Yes. You are. But, you are also a prime… candidate for understanding and protecting the barrier. Now—we need your help.

[REDACTED]: (contemplates her lap) It was both. Mostly internal. Then I let some of it out. I had to reach for the ███████, I could feel it, like it was part of my fingertips.

Dr. Hahn: That makes sense. We’ve established in previous interviews that you have a sort of symbiotic relationship with it.

[REDACTED]: Yes, I’m remembering. It always happens when my patterns have grown, or when I’ve got heavy shoulders.

Dr. Hahn: (thinks and writes for about 1 minute)

[REDACTED]: I have never seen anyone else manually create ripples, nor have ████ or ████ seen it happen—either from me or someone else.

Dr. Hahn: (thinks and writes for about 1 minute) Oh, yeah. You’re the only one who can do this. Have you ever consciously chose to do it?

[REDACTED]: …to make ripples or to let out a █████ scream?

Dr. Hahn: Either.

[REDACTED]: I have only done the latter.

Dr. Hahn: Oh. That means you’re not just damaging the barrier. You’re helping them.

[REDACTED]: What?

Dr. Hahn: Given past experiments, it seems that energy can come out of the barrier—in rather confusing ways—but energy cannot be inputted into the barrier. The only exception is the ██████ themselves; they can excite the barrier, and they draw from the extra power when necessary.

[REDACTED]: You mean they can use it—use me to tear a hole through the ███████?

Dr. Hahn: Almost.

[REDACTED]: No. No, no, no, no! I can’t. I’ll restrain the screams—that should be enough. Right? Until I turn it golden!

Dr. Hahn: In that case, you’re unlikely to actually tear it or cause an incursion, but that still leaves the matter of… nevermind, the Foundation can handle that matter independently. I think we can wrap this up now.

[REDACTED]: Wait, what? But can’t I do something more to help? We always ran some experiments and trials and stuff. To test out my powers?

Dr. Hahn: I’m glad to see that your loyalty to the protection and safety of the ███████ comes before your own. The Foundation is grateful to have you on our side.

[REDACTED]: I’m not really—

Dr. Hahn: You would have made a fine operative. (raises hand and holds up 2 fingers)

<END LOG>

[REDACTED] received class-B amnestics to wipe her memory of the interrogation and was released at ██:██ on the same day at her original location.

When analysis of biological samples was completed, it revealed that [REDACTED] had an unknown blood group and an entirely unknown set of chromosomes. Several skin and hair samples could not be analyzed due to the lack of antimemetic-resistant equipment. Imaging scans revealed an unknown organ below the pancreas.

Using cross-sectional images of the bodily scans, Dr. Hahn’s team created a device to mimic the vocal tract. Several operatives with mnestic training provided consultation and tested the device to induce oscillations or ripples. The device could produce ripples that propagated up to 50 km reliably, though not with magnitudes comparable to [REDACTED]. See Experiment 8664-T.

A proposal for increased surveillance, training, and recruitment of [REDACTED] was submitted and rejected.

Addendum 8664-2: On 2025/██/██, readings indicated the entirety of SCP-8664 was destroyed but immediately reconstructed. The EM response of the new field partially shifted beyond the visual spectrum. Measurements indicated a response in the short-wave infrared band, while the visual response shifted from a golden color to a rainbow color. No K-class end-of-world scenario was activated.

The source of the disruption was traced to ██████ █████ in the Republic of Korea. Foundation personnel were immediately sent to ██████ █████ where they and the ███████ observed that the field strength and camouflage were still stable. Continuous monitoring over the next █ weeks confirmed that the new barrier was less sensitive to disruptions, oscillations, and natural variation in field strength. Its power spectrum had also widened and increased in magnitude. A request was made to reclassify SCP-8664 as Euclid and was denied.

Given the presence of thousands of civilian witnesses, Foundation personnel assessed a possible antimemetic breach during the event. Interviews with the ███████ members revealed that [REDACTED] was one of the primary energy sources for the reconstruction of the barrier. Because of [REDACTED]’s dual nature as a human and instance of SCP-8664-A, the reconstruction had an amnestic effect equivalent to that of class-B or class-G amnestics. The persistent antimemetic camouflage of the new barrier also meant that no records of the event required manipulation or censorship. Agents concluded that no further action was necessary.

Experiment 8664-T: Researchers assessed the wave-like nature of the barrier fluctuations. Results indicate that oscillations can constructively and destructively interfere like sinusoids; however, energy readings seemingly remain constant before dissipating over the course of hours or days.

Test: Performance of ripple filter

Subject: Dr. Hahn

Protocol: Set up vocal device and ideatic seismometer in a laboratory. Set up mnesticized cameras outside building. When seismomemter detects a ripple, adjust device to produce an equally intense but oppositely directed oscillation, with 90 degree phase shift.

Result: Ripple was successfully cancelled out. Measurements indicate the ripple’s energy decayed to 37% of original value after 30 hours.

Due to the unknown mechanism of energy storage and dissipation within and surrounding SCP-8664, the device was not approved for field use.

Addendum 8664-3: On 2027/██/██, a recursive disruption–oscillation event occurred, wherein a sufficiently large fluctuation in field strength propagated across the Earth at never before seen amplitude and speed. The result was a self-sustaining ripple that destabilized SCP-8664, nearly causing a CK-class end-of-world scenario.

The source of the disruption–oscillation was unknown, but it was potentially artificial in origin. Although it appeared to be natural variation in field strength which cascaded out of control, harmonic analysis showed that the frequency components did not match the spectra of any other recorded oscillation. The accompanying disruption then triggered more oscillations which radiated in all directions; the wavefronts were mostly synchronized and thus converged during their peaks. This produced self-sustaining oscillations that triggered more disruptions that triggered more oscillations.

Swarms of SCP-8664-A, up to 5 square kilometers in size, emerged during the ripples, overwhelming the resources and capabilities of ███████. The Foundation thus approved a joint task force between ███████ and the Antimemetics Division to contain the threat, which had reached a global scale. The oscillation was eliminated with the invention of the infinite-gain waveguide radiator. The full details of this device are in Document 8664-X, archived at Area-██, and a full treatise of the war is archived at Site-██.

Virtually all instances of SCP-8664-A were eliminated. Over the course of the war, ██ specimens were contained for study and documentation purposes in the Antimemetics Division.

SCP-8664 returned to stable conditions after the events of [DATA EXPUNGED]. The near-infinite buildup of energy inside SCP-8664 redistributed itself spontaneously, rendering further action unnecessary. No K-class end-of-world scenario was activated.

Notes:

BTW, there’s a bunch of K-classes that all adequately describe the destruction of the Honmoon or total demon takeover. WK, AK, MK, CK, I think another one. I used MK in the original one shot. I like MK because it abbreviates Maggie Kang, but I settled on CK. TBH, the 4th-wall-breaking reference might be a little too much when I start the actual serious story. Wait, what?

Yes. Addendum 8664-3 is becoming a full story.

I’m still planning things out and determining the scope of the work. Considering my abilities as a writer (puny) and the story that I want to tell (grand)—it’s gonna be a while. A long, long while. I promise it WILL be done.
