Chapter Text

It happened in an instant. One sharp impact, a hot pain that stole her breath. Jam was pooling around her. Her eyes widened, the world tilting wildly. She fell, weightless and trembling, and she fell the last of her strength drained away. The last thing she ever heard was her adoptive 'daughter' screaming out her name. "Po--!"

----------------------------------------------

Across the snow bound peaks of the Dark Cacao Kingdom, Ivory Choco Cookie gently collected the pansies from the Kingdom's garden while humming a tune to herself she had heard somewhere and kept them in her basket. She loved pansies, though many did not. She wasn't sure why though. Either way, there weren't too many flowers growing in the Dark Cacao Kingdom. She paused for a second and took out her journal and a pen from her satchel bag. She applied a pansy in her journal with some glue and was about to note something down when she felt like she heard someone scream something, when her beloved companion, Cloud Hatae Cookie ran upto her. "M-miss Ivory Choco Cookie-!" The young girl smiled at them. "Hello, Cloud Hatae Cookie. You seem nervous. May I assist you with anything?", she asked. "You have mathematics lessons now...You did not forget again, did you...", the Hatae asked. Uh oh. Her mother was going to have her head. She sighed softly. "Yes...I did...", she replied, standing up and putting her journal and pen back and picking up her flower basket. Then, she rushed back to the palace. She entered, hoping to not run into her mother. She went inside her room and undressed out of her snow covered hanfu and changed into something proper. Then, she went to take her lessons. Her teacher, Miss Chocolate Charlotte Cookie, was rather strict. She was already here, looking impatient. "You need to have proper time management, young lady", she said firmly. Ivory Choco Cookie smiled sheepishly as she set her books down. "I apologise...", she replied. Today, we will learn about logarithms.", her teacher said.

----------------------------------------------

The lesson was finally over and her teacher left. She sighed. She didn't exactly understand why she needed to learn logarithms and geometry. She could hardly understand the difference between fractions and rational numbers. "The world is so much more than maths....a-and grammar...How in EarthBread is either going to help me rule this forsaken Kingdom...or help the Cookies..." Today, Miss Charlotte Cookie had given her even more work than usual and her right hand was starting to cramp. "Ivory Choco Cookie.", a very familiar and strict voice spoke. She froze. She turned around and faced her mother with her father behind her looking somewhat confused. "Hello...mama....", Ivory Choco Cookie said, giggling nervously. "I have told you several times to not fool around during your lessons. Before she left, Miss Chocolate Charlotte Cookie told me you were not paying attention towards the lesson and was simply staring out of the window. You were not even replying to her questions.", her mother stated. Well...that was not entirely false. Ivory Choco Cookie was staring out of the window not listening to her teacher. "I had...stuff in my mind....", Ivory Choco Cookie replied. That was not false either. "Oh? And what exactly was this...'stuff'", her mother questioned her. The 'stuff' had gorgeous golden hair and beautiful wings and sapphire like eyes. And the 'stuff's' name was Pepperjack Cookie. But she could not say this to her mother. "You are grounded. I have noticed several times you are simply spacing out and not completing your work.", she said. "But mama...", Ivory Choco Cookie said. "That's final.", her mother replied firmly. "Ok...but for how long...?", the girl asked. "For-", her mother started, before being interrupted by the arrival of Cloud Hate Cookie. "Master Mystical Flour Cookie...Lord Dark Cacao Cookie...the first watcher found a young cookie lying in the snow...She has passed out, by the looks if it...", they said. "Oh?", her father, who had been silent before, replied.

----------------------------------------------

The cookie was a very young girl, she seemed twelve at most, and she had a bruises and cuts on her dough, which were getting treated by the royal nurse. She had pale blue jello like hair and was wearing some kind of blue kimono. "Poor dear...", the nurse wishpered to nobody in particular. The first watcher was also present. "While I was performing my duty, I found her there, lying in snow, jam seeping out of her", she informed to Mystic Flour Cookie and Dark Cacao Cookie. Dark Cacao Cookie opened to his mouth to say something, when the girl stirred. She opened her eyes. She stared at them all for a few seconds, before realising she was in a strange room with strange cookies. W-who...are you...?", she asked, her voice sounding slightly slurred. "There there, dear.... we are going to help you... We won't hurt you...What is your name...?", Mystic Flour Cookie asked gently. "A-Agar Agar Cookie...", the girl replied.

Chapter Text

He gasped, pain ripping through him. He couldn’t take it anymore. It was… too much. Why him? Out of everyone in EarthBread? He was just a teenager. What did she want from him? That was a question he dared not ask. He felt exposed. Pathetic. Small.

----------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, inside the Vanilla Kingdom Castle, a very different scene was unfolding. "Ugh, come on!" Light Cream Cookie groaned, glaring at the rose in front of him. He had been trying to make it talk. And he had...technically succeeded. "I’d say you’re unique… but I’ve seen dirt with more personality~," the rose said, unironically. "Oh my Witches, shut your mouth!" Light Cream Cookie snapped. "I would, honey, but then who would spread the truth~?" the rose replied, swaying as if mocking him. Black Sapphire Cookie, who had been leaning against the doorframe and watching the spectacle, chuckled. "Enjoying the show, are you?!" Light Cream Cookie snapped at him. “I like your little rose companion," the older guy said, amused. "Of course you like me, honey, I’m irresistible~," the rose cooed. "Get out of my room!" Light Cream Cookie shouted towards Black Sapphire. "There now, you have no respect for your elders-" Black Sapphire began. "GET OUT!" the boy shrieked. "Alright, dear dear…Even Candy Apple Cookie was less of a nightmare to take care of..." Black Sapphire muttered with, backing away. Light Cream Cookie exhaled heavily, glaring at the rose. "Now… where in EarthBread is Indigo Cream Cookie…?"

----------------------------------------------

"Well, hello there~," she purred. He shuddered at the mere sight of her green eyes. "I realised I never told you think, I've sent someone to take your place, for now...~ Also, Devil’s Food Cookie tells me you’ve been rather rude to her. Such behavior… doesn’t go unpunished, does it?" Her voice was syrupy, deceptively girlish. He gasped. "Please…no…I cannot handle it..." She only cackled in response.

----------------------------------------------

"Indigo Cream Cookie…?" Pure Vanilla Cookie’s voice was gentle as he spoke. The boy sat by the window looking deep in thought v"What-? Oh, uh, yes...dad?", Indigo replied, startled out of his thoughts. "Are you feeling quite alright, dear?" "Yes… I’m just thinking about… something." He paused, fidgeting with his hands. "Someone, actually...." Pure Vanilla tilted his head, a knowing smile tugging at his lips. "Oh?" "I… kind of like her", Indigo admitted, voice barely above a whisper. "She’s… beautiful. Her eyes are like jewels. She’s magnificent…" Once he started, the words poured out of him in a flustered rush, ten full minutes of admiration and shy smiles. By the end, his face was pink and Pure Vanilla Cookie sat blinking, clearly caught off guard. He had never imagined his son to be...this way...This was....unlike his usual outgoing self....But the surprise quickly softened into understanding. "I see," Pure Vanilla said warmly. “And what is her name, hm?" Indigo hesitated, "Her name is… uh… Fruit...Cake Cookie..." Pure Vanilla sat beside him, resting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm glad you told me, my dear. Love and the feelings that come with it can be intense and confusing, especially at your age. What’s your relationship with Fruit Cake Cookie right now?" "We're… friends", Indigo murmured. Before Pure Vanilla could respond, a voice suddenly cut through the tender moment. "I’m really sorry to interrupt this adorable little parent–child heart-to-heart about love or whatever", said Candy Apple Cookie, arms crossed, "but have either of you seen Master Shadow Milk Cookie? I have work with him!" Both father and son froze, startled out of their thoughts. Pure Vanilla blinked. "Ah…no, I haven’t seen him since this morning." Candy Apple sighed dramatically and turned to leave. "Figures. Wasting my time again", she muttered as she walked out. Suddenly, a Blueberry Bird came to Pure Vanilla, with a letter...

----------------------------------------------

Shadow Milk Cookie drifted silently through the kingdom as the other cookies bustled about the market, their laughter and chatter filling the air. He tilted his gaze upward the moon had already risen, casting a soft, silvery glow across the land. It was beautiful. A pang of longing stirred within him as he thought of Moonlight Cookie. It had been so long since they last spoke, ever since he had become trapped within the Silver Tree. In his days as a Fount, she had been like a sister to him. He continued to float, lost in thought, when suddenly the world around him dissolved. In an instant, he found himself suspended in an empty void, a pitch-black expanse stretching endlessly in all directions. "Hello, Shadow Milk Cookie~" came a woman’s voice, smooth and teasing, echoing through the darkness. He stiffened. "Who are you? Where am I?! Show yourself!" "You’ll find out soon enough~", the voice replied, her tone laced with amusement. Before he could respond, a searing pain tore through his head. He gasped, clutching at it as his vision blurred. "Gah-!" Images began to flash before his eyes faces he had lost long ago. His friends. His daughter...The memories struck like blades, each one sharper than the last. His breath trembled, tears welling as the unseen voice broke into cruel, echoing laughter. But he barely heard her.
