Blue’s own cheerleader!

Summary:

Ryan and Don have a special relationship but where does Blue fit in?

Blythe can’t stand watching her stepson being split between wanting his dad’s attention and his mama’s affection so she decided to spend time with Blue to get to know him better.

Blue is 7 in this story and Ryan is older (still trying to figure out the age gap between the brothers)

Don and Ryan will come around.

Chapter 1: Shopping with Blythe!

Chapter Text

Blue was over at the ranch for his weekend visit as this whole thing was still new to him “hey honey, where is your dad and brother?” Blythe asked Blue.

“I’m not sure. They didn’t tell me which I’m fine with. I’m used to being forgotten about anyway.” Blue said which made Blythe sit down next to her new son.

“What do you mean hon?” Blythe asked “when mama goes on tour I got with her. I know my role is to be quiet and just stay in the bus.” Blue said while eating his cereal.

“That's just sad, I think we should go do something if that’s ok with you?” Blythe asked Blue.

“I’m fine staying at the house, I don't want to cause any problems. I brought some books along.” Blue said, placing his bowl in the sink.

“Mama tells me to read so I don’t make any noise. You won’t know I’m here anyway. I won’t ask for much and I’m pretty self sufficient so you don’t need to get me anything.” Blue said which made Blythe even sadder.

“I think a little boy like you, we should get you some fun things to keep at the house. Clothes, toys, anything that could help you be more comfortable at the house.” Blythe said.

“Are you sure? You don’t need to spend money on me. Mana said I have enough stuff at home.” Blue said not used to having anything just given to him without a price.

“If you take me shopping, do I need to make up the money with chores or punishment?” Blue asked Blythe who looked shocked by what Blue said.

“No honey, you deserve to have nice things to yourself, no payment needed or punishment for needing stuff.” Blythe told Blue who said ok before he got dressed in some clothes that didn’t fit him properly.

“You need the next size up Bluey.” Blythe said with a smile “mama said I need to cut back on food then my clothes will fit.” Blue told Blythe.

“That's how it works honey. You're a growing boy and a growing boy needs clothes and other proper items to help you grow and keep yourself healthy.” Blythe told Blue who was ok.

Blythe took Blue to the mall and held his hand “we need to look at shoes do you know your size?” Blythe asked.

“No, a lot of my shoes are from lost and found bins.” Blue said before heading to the first shoe store.

Blythe helped Blue measure his foot “you're a size 8.” Blythe said helping Blue find shoes he likes.

“You need day to day shoes and then we’ll head to the ranch store to get your boots, jeans and a few flannel shirts.” Blythe told Blue who said ok before he let Blythe show him shoes.

“Which ones do you like hon?” Blythe asked her son “I don't know, whatever you want to get me.” Blue said, chewing on his thumb.

“Why don’t you pick out 2 pairs that you like and I’ll pick out 2 pairs that are your size.” Blythe said before letting Blue walk around and look at shoes.

Blue picked out a very basic black pair and a white pair while Blythe picked some more colorful shoes for Blue.

Blythe got 2 pairs of shoes for Blue the black pair and a colorful pair.

After shoes Blythe took Blue to look at clothes as he held her hand with more ease than before as he trusted her to keep him safe.

Blythe helped Blue find some outfits and PJ’s to keep at the house before they left the mall and went to get some lunch before heading to the ranch store to pick up some ranch clothes for when they head to the rodeo.

“Bluey you need some jeans, flannel shirts and some boots.” Blythe said before heading to the children’s section and helped Blue with boots and flannel shirts as they got him some jeans at the mall.

After all the shopping Blythe took Blue back home where Don and Ryan were in the barn with the horses.

“Hey honey, Bluey. How was shopping?” Don asked “good, we got Bluey some clothes and more shoes since his are all too small or falling apart.” Blythe said with a smile as Blue stood by the horse wanting to pet him.

“That’s Champ, he’s nice. That’s a good beginning horse to help you get acclimated to being around horses.” Ryan said.

Ryan didn’t hate Blue, it’s not his fault that his dad hooked up with Dixie. Ryan wanted to be the best older brother he could for Ryan who smiled at him.

“I can’t ride. Mama said horses are evil and could kill you.” Blue said.

“See that’s just some misinformation as if you're careful with a horse they will let you feed them and even ride them.” Ryan said, handing Blue a carrot to feed Champ.

“Just place it flat in your hand and don’t move.” Dom said as Blue feed Champ “he took it! And I didn’t get hurt!” Blue said with a big smile as he’s proud of himself for feeding the horse.

Blue was tired after dinner when he wanted to go to bed but he didn’t want to disturb the family “hey baby are you ready for bed?” Don asked Blue.

“No sir. I don’t want to disturb you and your family.” Blue said rubbing his eyes “come on champ, let’s get you ready for bed.” Don said taking his young son upstairs to Blue’s room and helping him get dressed.

“Want a story? Night light?
Whatever makes you more comfortable to sleep.” Don said as Blue looked at him.

“I’m fine sir. You, Ryan and Miss Blythe have been so kind to me.” Blue said “your part of the family also Blue and Ry and I will work harder to make sure that you feel comfortable.” Don said as he felt shameful that he didn’t put in as much effort into making Blue feel comfortable at the house.

After Blue was asleep Don kissed his head and left the door cracked to check on Blue.

After Ryan went to bed himself Blythe told Don all about Blue and how much self doubt he has.

“We have a court date in a week so we’ll make Blue feel as comfortable as we can and hopefully we can get 50/50 on custody.” Don said.

“We need more than 50/50. That baby’s home life is a nightmare. His mama doesn’t give him the proper clothes and he asked me if we need him to pay us back for buying him basic stuff for growing boys.” Blythe said as Dom cringed.

“Ok, we’ll keep notes and see if we can ask for full custody as Dixie isn’t taking care of Blue but I also think it will be hard on Blue not seeing his mama.” Don told Blythe who said ok.

Blue had a nightmare but didn’t tell Don about it as he wet his pants then cried harder thinking he would be in trouble for messing up the bed.

“Blue? What’s wrong buddy?” Ryan asked “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to make a mess!” Blue said.

“Hey, it’s ok accidents happen little man.” Ryan said before he took Blue to the bathroom to help wash him off before placing a long shirt and new undies for Blue to wear.

While Blue was getting dressed Ryan went to change the sheets on Blue’s bed.

Ryan saw Blue swimming in the shirt. “Next time don’t be afraid to tell us. You're not in trouble ok?” Ryan asked.

“You promise?” Blue asked “yep! Mama and daddy will not hurt you.” Ryan said before putting Blue back to bed and stayed with him till he fell back asleep.

The next morning Blue walked downstairs “hey buddy, what happened to your PJ’s?” Don asked.

“He had an accident and I took care of it.” Ryan said “thanks Ry! Blue next time you can come to us. Blythe and I won’t mind helping out.” Don said “I told him that dad. We chatted about it.” Ryan said while smiling at his brother.

Chapter 2

Summary:

Don notices Blue isn’t acting himself so he takes him straight to the hospital to get checked out.

Family trip to the hospital!

(Did they say how Blue was diagnosed in the episode?)

Notes:

This may not be the most accurate description of diabetes but I tried my best. I just wanted to write a chapter about Don being a great dad to Blue.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Over the last few weeks Blue has become more comfortable at the ranch as Don picked him up after school and noticed he doesn’t look so good “hey Bluey, are you ok?” Don asked.

“I'm just tired and thirsty but I’m ok.” Blue said “did you drink your water bottle today?” Don asked “yeah, and I refilled it then drank that. I’m still thirsty daddy.” Blue said without thinking about it.

Dom was concerned as instead of taking Blue home he took Blue to the hospital to get his blood sugar checked out.

Don was holding Blue in his arms while swaggering from side to side while the nurse did the triage “how old is Blue?” The nurse asked.

“7, I share 50/50 with his mom.” Dom said trying to keep Blue as calm as possible while he was still freaking out inside “are you able to contact her?” The nurse asked while taking Blue's temperature.

“Yeah, I’m not sure if she’ll answer but I’ll call my wife. She cares so much about Bluey.” Don said as he kissed Blue’s head.

Dom first called Blythe to stay with Blue while their nanny was going to bring Ryan to the hospital after his baseball practice.

“Hey honey, can you please meet me at the hospital? Blue is acting funky and his blood sugar is high so they are running tests right now.” Don said which made Blythe drop everything and head to the hospital to meet up with her husband and son.

Don called Dixie “what now? Blue shit his pants?” Dixie asked slightly drunk.

“No, he’s not feeling well so we’re at the hospital if you can come down.” Don said “I’m in the middle of recording a song.” Dixie said.

“Our son is in the hospital! Take a fucken break and come see our son!” Don said “fine, when I’m done will come down!” Dixie said while she hung up.

Blythe sat with Blue while Don talked to the doctor about the test results with a blood sugar of 200-250.

“Blue seems to be showing symptoms of type 1 diabetes so we’re going to admit him to monitor and teach you and your wife how to help Blue manage his diabetes.” The doctor told Don.

Don didn’t know how to react “thank you, my wife is with Blue. I have to call Blue’s mother and fill her in.” Don said as the doctor took note of Blythe holding Blue in her lap.

“Of course. The transport team will be here soon when a room opens up.” The doctor said while Don went to call Dixie who didn’t answer so he left a message before calling the studio as she answered super sloppy.

“Why call?” Dixie asked “Never mind. It’s nothing.” Don said “ass hole.” Dixie said before hanging up.

Ryan and the nanny Ginny came to the hospital as Blue looked better with fluids.

“What's wrong with Bluey?” Ryan asked “he has a condition called diabetes so we have to help him monitor his blood sugar levels.” Blythe said while rubbing Blue’s back as he was asleep.

“Will he die?” Ryan asked worried about his brother’s health “no buddy, with mama and my help we will help Blue with his diabetes.” Don said.

Over the next few days Blue was better as he seemed more himself as Dixie called but still didn’t show up “look, Blue wants to see you. He keeps asking for his mama.” Don said.

“I’m busy with my career to take care of a sick child. When I get back I’ll see him.” Dixie said “get back?” Don asked “I’m not even in Nashville, I booked a last minute concert. You can teach me everything I need to know about Blue’s diabetes.” Dixie said which made Don mad as he can’t keep making up an excuse for Dixie’s behavior.

Ryan watched his dad as he kept Blue occupied with some toys and the new bear he got from the child life specialist that has an insulin pump and pod “what’s your bear’s name?” Ryan asked.

“Bear, I don’t know how to name things.” Blue said “what about Chester? You can make up a story for him and everything.” Ryan said while Blue looked at Don who threw his hands up in the air.

“Why is daddy mad on the phone?” Blue asked.

“Oh it’s probably a work thing. But he’s not mad at you ok?” Ryan asked “ok, I didn’t mean to get sick.” Blue said.

“Hey, we know this Bluey, daddy, mama and I know this.” Ryan said as he didn’t want Blue to get scared.

Don looked at his boys and smiled at them before he went over to them and sat down on the bed.

“Your mom is busy but she said she’ll be home soon so you're coming home with us.” Don said “she thinks I’m broken?” Blue asked.

“No hon, you're not broken. Your pancreas is not working properly so you just need to take extra meds to help it work better and we need to make sure you eat things that won’t make it angry ok?” Don said as he looked at all the pamphlets that were given to him including which pumps they should use and if an insulation pod would work for Blue.

Blythe went to the store and picked up some extra PJ’s for Blue, some toys and a comforter blanket and anything else that would make Blue feel comfortable in the hospital.

Blue comes home!

After spending 3 days in the hospital Blue was able to go home with a prescription for a pump and insulin along with a book filled with foods that Blue can and can’t eat.

Don carried Blue out of the hospital and to the truck “you look tired sweetheart, when we get home we can nap on the couch and watch movies.” Don said “sounds good…..daddy.” Blue said with a small smile.

For the rest of the day Blythe, Don and Ryan didn’t leave Blue’s side. Blue slept in the master bedroom with Blythe and Don in the middle of the bed so they could keep an eye on Blue.

Notes:

Don and Blythe are definitely going to file a full custody appeal against Dixie after how she acted with Blue’s medical emergency.

Chapter 3: Jealousy!

Summary:

Don’t get it wrong. Ryan loves having a younger brother but he still gets super jealous about how much time Don is spending with Blue.

In the back of Ryan’s head he knows that Blue needs their far more than him (still an equal amount of time) but he wants to do things just with Don that Blue can’t do just yet.

Chapter Text

It’s been a week as Blue was getting used to living with his dad, stepmom and brother while his mom was still on the road.

Don and Blythe sat down with Blue and went over a treatment plan for him including his pump and going to the store to make him a treat basket filled with different treats that Blue can get if he’s feeling tired and his blood sugar is low.

Ryan didn’t understand why Blue was getting a lot more attention than him even though he knows he’s sick or was sick and in the hospital.

Today was one of those days that Blue needed extra cuddles or needed to be held constantly.

“Dad, can we go ride my horse and give me some tips?” Ryan asked Don.

“Sorry Ry, Bluey needs me today, maybe another time.” Don told Ryan who huffed “he doesn’t look sick, just tired!” Ryan said with a stomped foot.

“Ryan, I know he doesn’t look sick, but he’s not feeling well today. His blood sugar levels are all over the place so I’m trying to help him out ok?” Don told his oldest son.

Ryan went outside to ride his bike to the barn to take care of his horse and possibly ride him “Ryan Jacob what are you doing?” Blythe asked, seeing Ryan put his saddle on Champ.

“Daddy is taking care of Bluey and told me to get Champ ready for me to rid him.” Ryan told Blythe who knew her husband wouldn’t let Ryan get Champ ready without him or a worker.

“If I call daddy will he tell me the truth or what you wanted to hear?” Blythe asked Ryan who looked at her.

“He's busy with Blue who’s having a bad day and I just got mad so I wanted to prove that I don’t need his help and he can focus on Blue rather than me.” Ryan said a bit sad and angry.

“Ry, you know daddy loves you and Blue equally. Daddy just needs to spend more time with Blue at the moment since he’s not feeling his best today.” Blythe said as she helped Ryan get the saddle off and back on the stand.

“I promise you once daddy gets Blue all settled in he’ll be out here with you while I sit with Blue. It’s a family thing that once you boys are sick daddy and I split the responsibility up so you have a parent at all times with you guys.” Blythe said before they headed back inside the house.

“I think you need to go have a break in your room to clear your head. Daddy will be up to talk to you soon.” Blythe told Ryan who said ok.

Don saw Ryan went upstairs to his room “what’s up with Ry going to his room?” Don asked his wife “he needs to take a break, he’s dealing with a lot of emotions at the moment.” Blythe told her husband.

“Is he ok? Can I help?” Don asked “I think it’s best if we give Ryan some space then you can go talk to him.” Blythe told Don who said ok before he went to check on Blue who was half asleep watching TV.

20 minutes later!

Don went to check on Ryan who was in his bed without his phone or anything electronic.

“Hey Ry, mama said that you have a lot of emotions that you're working through.” Don said.

“If that's what we call it then sure. Being super jealous of your half brother is a lot of emotions.” Ryan told Don.

“Jealous? Why are you jealous of Blue?” Don asked “I get he’s younger and your new toy but I also matter also and want to spend time with you like ride my horse and you can help me.” Ryan said.

“Ry….bud. Blue isn’t just a new toy. He’s also my son who I’m trying to give my time to hangout with and today is a little more stressful as I can’t figure out his blood sugar so daddy is just a little worried about Blue.” Don said when he held Ryan near him.

“I would love to go ride your horse with you. Mama can stay here with Blue and we can go work with your horse to get you ready for the upcoming junior rodeo.” Don told Ryan who said ok.

“You should know that when I was mad, I decided to take my saddle and put it on Champ without an adult supervision.” Ryan told Don.

Don looked at his son “that’s one of our big rules Ryan Jacob, you can’t or shouldn’t do anything with your horse without an adult to help you so you are grounded for the day from any horse related thing.” Don told Ryan who said ok and sorry.

Blue was better as the day went on as he was back to his normal (as normal as possible) self and was laughing again and playing with the dogs who he grew quite fond of.

Ryan knew that his own actions from today were his own doing and he even played with Blue and the dogs. Ryan could be jealous like any other siblings but he loves his brother also even if he gets annoyed at Blue.

Chapter 4: Blue’s baseball game!

Summary:

The family goes to Blue’s baseball game!

Don decided to build a mini baseball field at the ranch for Blue to practice.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Since having Blue in their lives the Hart family has been more involved in his life and today was the day that they were going to Blue’s baseball game to support him.

Blue was very excited to see his other family come to his game today “Mama! Daddy is coming to my game!” Blue said “why? He’s not a good influence.” Dixie said.

“No! He’s a good person!” Blue told Dixie who rolled her eyes “Blue! I know your dad! He doesn’t want anything to do with you!” Dixie told Blue.

“That’s not true! He stayed with me while I was in the hospital while you were away!” Blue said defending his dad.

Dixie didn’t like how bold Blue is since Don came into his life “you listen to me! You don’t talk to me like that ever again! I have been supporting you since you were born!” Dixie said in a very angry tone that Blue was scared “yes mama.” Blue said.

The game!

Blue was in the dugout with his team as he looked sad “Blue bird what’s wrong?” The coach asked “mama thinks daddy is a bad person but he’s nice!” Blue said “your daddy is a firefighter right?” The coach asked.

“Yes sir, he works at the 113 station.” Blue said as he saw Don, Blythe and Ryan walk up “go see them champ, they came to support you!” Coach told Blue who ran to his dad who smiled and caught him.

“Daddy!” Blue said with tears running down his face “hey baby Blue, why so sad?” Don asked his son who looked up “mama…mean…yelled!” Blue said.

“Oh sweetie, that’s not nice of her.” Blythe said rubbing Blue’s back “I’ll go talk to her and tell your coach about your diabetes.” Don said holding Blue in his arms as they walked over to Blue’s team as Dixie looked at them so Blue put his face on Don’s shoulder to hide it.

Blythe took Ryan to the stands and saved a spot for Don who was talking with Blue “I see you came to join the normal people and not in your ivory tower.” Dixie told Blythe.

“Not in front of Ryan. If you want to talk, wait till after the game.” Blythe told Dixie “after the game I’m going to take Blue to get ice cream like always.” Dixie said.

“He needs to watch his blood sugar so I don’t think ice cream is a good idea.” Blythe told Dixie.

“He’s my son and I know what’s best for him!” Dixie told Blythe who couldn’t ignore it anymore as Blue’s safety is her concern also.

“Ry baby, why don’t you go to the concession stands and get us some snacks and water mama is thirsty.” Blythe said handing Ryan some money “ok mama!” Ryan said as he went to get some food and to find his dad and brother.

Once Ryan was out of ear shot Blythe told Dixie off.

“You are the one who wouldn’t let us see Blue, you are the one who had us go to court to finally get visitation for Blue. You were not at the hospital when Blue was sick, you don’t think his DIABETES are a real thing so you can’t tell me that you know what’s best for Bluey!” Blythe said out of breath.

“Blue’s diabetic and didn’t tell us?” The coach said.

“I mean it’s all so new. You know with me being out of town and Blue’s father living so far away I didn’t even know if he would show up today.” Dixie said as she felt her lies start to crack.

“Don thankfully informed me about Bluey’s new diagnosis so I’ll be on alert more and I have Don’s number if Blue needs anything while he’s at work because unlike you when Blue gets hurt I can tell that Don will drop everything and come get Blue or stay with him.” The coach told Dixie who looked defeated.

This whole time Dixie would tell people that Blue’s dad left them even though he was only 30 minutes away and could easily come to any of Blue’s actions if he knew about them.

After the game Blue got to go home with Don back to the ranch “ok baby let’s prick your finger to make sure your levels are good.” Don said as Blue looked sad when he didn’t like the finger prick.

“What kind of popsicle do you want when we get home?” Don asked, keeping Blue’s attention away from the prick.

“Orange daddy, that’s the best flavor.” Blue said not knowing that Don pricks his finger already and got the reading he needed.

“Good choice bud. And look, we're all done.” Don told Blue who smiled “it’s a little low but when we get home I’ll give you a snack and let you rest on the coach.” Don said before he placed Blue in his booster seat.

Later that night Don wanted to build Blue his own practice field so he could practice throwing and hitting the ball “where would we put it?” Blythe asked her husband.

“I’m not sure. Maybe near the barn? We have so much land that I want Blue to have things that he could enjoy also that aren't just the horses.” Don said when he knew that baseball was Blue’s thing as horses are Ryan’s thing and he wanted to be as supportive with baseball as possible for Blue.

Ryan was in his room watching TV while Blue was asleep on the floor next to Ryan’s bed.

“Night Bluey, night Ry.” Don said as he came to check on his boys “night dad, Blue snuck in here and fell asleep on the floor next to my bed.” Ryan said with a small smile.

“I think he’s getting used to you bud. He likes you and you treat him so well as an older brother.” Don said as he kissed Blue’s head before giving Ryan a hug and kiss on the head.

Notes:

This will be the only main chapter that Dixie will be a part of. Everything else (unless I think otherwise) will be Hart family centric.

Chapter 5: Blue’s own room!

Summary:

Blue has a room at the house, it’s a very basic room. Nothing that would say a little boy lives here.

Don is at work and Ryan is at a friend’s house so Blythe takes Blue to go shopping with her for things that Blue would like in his room.

Including new furniture , bedding, toys, and anything else Blue would like/ need.

Chapter Text

Blythe and Don have gotten more time with Blue as Dixie needs to split the time between Don and her house better.

Blythe and Don put a very basic room together for Blue but since he’s going to be spending more time at the house he needs an upgraded room so they talk with Blue about what he wants in the room to make it more homey.

Blue doesn’t want to seem ungrateful “it’s fine. You don’t need to add anything special for me.” Blue said.

“Honey, we want too. It’s your room also as your apart of this family so you should have a room that makes you feel comfortable ok?” Blythe asked.

“Mama said not to ask for anything or I’ll go to hell.” Blue told his parents.

“That's just stupid Blue, you can ask for things and you won’t go to hell.” Don told his son a bit peeved at Dixie for putting those thoughts in Blue’s head.

“I think what daddy means is that you can still have things that you need and you won’t be punished.” Blythe said when Blue said ok.

“If you think it’s ok, then it’s ok.” Blue said “thanks Bluey, mama B is going to take you shopping while I’m at work and Ry is at his friends house for a sleepover.” Don said while Blue nodded his head.

After Don left for work it was just Blue and Blythe at home.

“Hey Bluey, I have a few quick work things to do then we can go shopping ok?” Blythe asked her son who said ok as he was just reading his books that he has in his backpack.

An hour later!

Blythe came out of her home office and saw Blue still on the couch reading his book “hey sweetie, ready to go shopping?” Blythe asked Blue “yeah. Just let me get my shoes on.” Blue said before putting his book down before getting his shoes on.

Blythe took Blue to look at furniture for his room as she wanted Blue to have as much of a say about his room.

Blue held Blythe’s hand as they walked around the storefront.

“What kind of bed do you want, baby?” Blythe asked Blue who looked at all the beds “no skyscrapers beds so I don’t get hurt.” Blue said.

“No bunk beds or loft beds got it. Do you want a full size bed? It’s a little bigger than the bed you have now.” Blythe said.

“Ok, if that’s what you and daddy want to buy.” Blue said looking at the different decorations in the display areas.

Blythe wanted Blue to give his opinion on certain things but Blue wouldn’t so it made the shopping trip harder.

“Blue, honey. Can you please come here?” Blythe asked Blue “sure.” Blue said.

“You're not in trouble honey, I just want you to share your opinion on your room.” Blythe told Blue in her lap.’

“Is it my room?” Blue asked “yeah, why would it not be?” Blythe asked “mama will take me away again so why spend so much money on me?” Blue asked.

“Just because you don’t stay with us all the time you still deserve to have a room of your own that you can feel comfortable in.” Blythe said.

“Ok, I want to look at the sheets if that’s ok.” Blue said “sure honey, you just tell me what you want and we’ll go look at it.” Blythe said with a smile.

After the furniture store it was time for lunch so Blythe took Blue to get some food to bring to Don so they could eat lunch together before they continued shopping for Blue’s room and anything else he would need.

Don smiled at his son who was holding a bag of food bigger than him “Bluey, do you need help?” Don asked Blue “I got it daddy.” Blue said while he placed the bag on the table.

Blue talked about his day so far when Blythe smiled at Blue “we did have a tiny talk about sharing our opinions about our new room.” Blythe told Don, who looked at Blue.

“Did you have a hard time hon?” Don asked “yeah, mama is going to take me away again so I don’t want you to spend any money on me.” Blue told his dad.

“We're going to work with someone who can help us out and have you more at the ranch so we want you to feel safe and comfortable at the house in your own room.” Don told Blue who said ok before they finished lunch.

“I’ll see you when I get home. Be good for mama B ok Bluey?” Don said “I will daddy.” Blue said when he hugged his dad who smiled and kissed his wife.

After stopping by to see Don Blythe took Blue to get some toys to keep in his room along with the boys' shared game/ play room.

Blue was sitting in the Target cart as Blythe pushed him along the isles to look at toys and other items that Blue would want.

Blue picked out a few toys that he would keep at the ranch along with some clothes.

“I’ll do a larger haul for you online. I just want to get a general amount of clothes that you can keep in your room.” Blythe told Blue who said ok as he was playing with one of his new toys.

After shopping Blythe took Blue back home where Blue put his toys away in his room and folded his clothes in the most 7 year old way as they looked crooked but Blue was proud of himself for putting his clothes away.

Hours later!

Dom came home from work where he saw Blythe and Blue working on dinner together as Blue seemed more relaxed than before.

“Daddy!” Blue said when he heard Don walk in with Ryan “don’t ask, he was told to call home.” Don said.

“I was protecting my family so I don’t see why I’m in trouble when Joseph started it!” Ryan said “you punched him in the face. You really don’t think we should talk about it?” Don asked.

“Nope, Joseph told me that his dad said that Blue is a bastard child and he should stay away from us so we don’t get the poor.” Ryan told his parents who looked at each other.

“I’m sorry Ry, you're not grounded but we will have words about what to do if your friends repeat what their parents told them or said around them.” Don said as he knew this day would come just didn’t know it would be so soon.

Blue didn’t know what was said as luckily he’s still young enough that he doesn’t know certain things or how certain people feel about him.

“Ry, why don’t you help Blue set the table for dinner while daddy and I go talk in the office.” Blythe told Ryan who said ok as he helped Blue get the table set for dinner.

Don and Blythe talked about what to do till they heard Ryan.

“No matter what people say and they will talk, don't let them talk down to you. Your daddy’s son just as much as I am. You are a Hart-Bennings. You have the same rights as I do ok?” Ryan said.

“Ok, what did your friend say about me?” Blue asks “nothing you need to know about. You just focus on your toys and being the best you can be.” Ryan told Blue who said ok.

Don and Blythe were proud of their son as they were still going to talk to the boys but they also knew that Ryan has Blue’s back and will protect him from anyone that causes him any harm.
