Chapter Text
The bell rang. It was loud and annoying but it meant that everyone got to leave this torment, piercing through the quiet murmur of pencils dropping and books closing. Ray shoved his math notebook into his backpack, trying not to think about how bad he wanted to eat lunch..
Across the room, Mikey was standing, slinging his bag over one shoulder with that usual lazy grace- his hair falling into his eyes, glasses slipping down his nose. Ray watched him longer than he should have.
“History next.” Mikey mumbled as he passed by, nudging Ray’s arm with his elbow.. It was casual, almost nothing. But it made Ray’s stomach twist like he’d swallowed something electric.
“Yeah,” Ray said, and somehow his voice came out steadier than he felt.
They walked together down the empty hallway. Everyone else was already headed to class, the sound of sneakers squeaking and lockers slamming fading behind them.
“I hate this class,” Mikey said, slowing down near the stairwell. “Mr. D(eez nuts)—he always stares at the back of my head like he knows I’m not listening.”
Ray laughed softly. “That’s because you never are.”
“Exactly.” Said Mikey smiling ear to ear.
They stopped near the janitor’s closet at the far end of the hall. Mikey glanced around, then tugged the door open a crack. It was dark inside, faintly smelling of old mop water and pine cleaner.
“You hiding from history?” Ray asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Maybe” Mikey said. “You coming?”
Ray hesitated for half a second. Then stepped in.
The door shut behind them with a soft click, sealing them in the dim, narrow space. Mikey leaned against the wall, biting his lip like he wasn’t sure if this was funny or something else entirely.
“You ever think about just… disappearing for a while?” Mikey asked, voice low. “Just going somewhere no one can find you?”
Ray blinked “Sometimes.”
“I think about it a lot,” Mikey admitted. “But then I remember stuff. Like… that you’d probably notice I was gone.”
Ray looked at him, really looked at him, and something inside cracked open.
“I’d definitely notice,” he said.
It hung there between them. Heavy. Warm.
Mikey’s voice was barely a whisper now. “do you think about me?”
Ray swallowed as he had murmured under his breath. “More than I should.”
Mikey stepped closer. The small space made it impossible not to touch. His fingers brushed Ray’s hand—hesitant, testing.
Ray didn’t pull away.
“I don’t really care about history class,” Mikey said, eyes locked on Ray’s.
Ray smiled, nervous and unsure. “Me neither.”
And then, without really deciding to, Ray leaned in.
Their lips met—soft and clumsy and real. Mikey’s hand moved to Ray’s hoodie, bunching the fabric like he needed something to hold on to. It was quiet except for their breathing, the soft shuffle of sneakers on the linoleum floor.
When they finally broke apart, Mikey leaned his forehead against Ray’s shoulder, breathing out a laugh.
“Pretty sure we’re late,” he murmured.
Ray grinned. “Worth it.”
Mikey pulled back just enough to look up at him. “Let’s skip. One class won’t kill us.”
Ray hesitated…Then nodded…“Okay.”
Mikey leans in to Ray as they kiss again, Not pulling apart this time, Mikey slides his hands down from Ray's stomach and wraps his hands around his waist, Ray moans a little while being pulled into Mikey’s body both of them sharing a warmth they never shared before.
“You taste like cherry chapstick.” Mikey giggled.
Ray pulled Mikey back into another magical kiss. He couldn't keep his lips away from Mikey’s, it was like an obsessive desire.
Staring deep, Into Rey’s chocolate melting eyes while Ray looks deep in Mikey’s caramel eyes.
“How much time do we have left?” Ray asks, pulling apart from Mikey's lips.
“Mmmm…’bout 30 minutes.” Mikey had replied back looking up at Ray sadly after being pulled apart from the best kiss of his life.
“Should we walk around…For a little?” Ray said, pulling his backpack back onto his shoulder after it fell off from the magical make out session that just happened.
“Yeah I guess that should be fine” Mikey said as he slumped his satchel on.
Ray grabs on the door handle and hears loud footsteps from far away, Mikey looks at him, he shrugs as he walks out the janitors and Ray follows.
When they get back out into the hallway, Mikey closes the closet door and Ray and Mikey walk down the hallway.
“Ive never actually skipped a class before…What do you do when you skip?” Ray asks while turning his head towards Mikey’s.
“I don’t know, I normally never skip and the one time I did, I was late for my 4th period class.” Mikey said while shoving his hands in his pockets while walking with Ray.
“Well anyways…where should we go? We have like…..25 minutes left.” Ray sighed.
As Ray and Mikey had continued down the hallway they both agreed to go into the bathroom because Mikey had to pee.
“I’ll be here while you pee” Ray said leaning against the wall.
“Ok.” Mikey said, walking into one of the bathroom stalls and closing it.
Over a couple of stalls from Mikey, Frank and Illi were sitting on the toilet and were sitting on top of the seating lid, waiting until Mikey and Ray left the bathroom.
“Frank….” Illi said in a whispered voice.
Frank turns over towards Illi and puts a finger against her lip telling her to be quiet, Illi rolls her eyes.
Ray sighs and starts twirling his hair in boredom until he finally hears a toilet flush and Mikey awkwardly walks out of the bathroom going to wash his hands, walking to the paper towels to dry them.
