amethyst observations

Summary:

Leo's running late for their usual meetup, so Claude and Nayuta have a little chat about their respective Aussies.

Notes:

so. well. yeah. LOL

dude seriously i did not expect to have this much brainrot over these four like it's genuinely dire. i wanna explore their concepts so bad bc it's actually crazy just how much potential and common characteristics they have it's so fun. i love u kugamark i love u zenrage

funnily enough this first tackles the nayuclaw friendship more than anythin. i think nayu is one of kugamark's many clockers and the idea is very funny to me. they're in solidarity bc both of their bfs r goofy lovable puppy aussies but also they tease e/o abt it

anyway! this is the first of hopefully more standalone stories that just involve the intertwined relationships of these four specifically that i will be sortin under the series "foxgloves, daffodils, lavender, and sakura" (fdls for short) i love the kgmkznrg-verse i need more

ok that's regularly scheduled kiby yap over. enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Cute, Claude thought before he could stop himself, staring at his phone with fond eyes he didn’t bother to hide since he was alone. The seat across him was empty, saved for the person who asked him to go out to eat at the mall today, like they always did. Their outings were frequent, but Claude appreciated every single second he spent with Leo. Call him clingy, but he’d attach himself onto Leo’s side if he could.

Okay, damn. Maybe that is clingy.

He had no real defense. He liked Leo. He was in love with him, probably, but with all the affection and care and sheer joy that Leo so readily granted him, Claude would have to be insane to not fall for the person he’s called his duo for as long as he has.

“Claude? Is that you?” Claude glanced up from his phone and followed the sound of the sudden, familiar voice.

“Nayu? Hey.” Indigo eyes gazed at Claude as Nayuta walked towards his table. “What are you doing here?”

“I could ask you the same thing. I’m here to do some shopping,” Nayuta pointed at the chair curiously. “Is this taken?”

Claude slightly shook his head. “Nah, not for now. Leo’s running a little late.”

“Cool,” Nayuta grinned as he settled into the metal seat, “I can keep you company for a bit then. But yeah, Uki sent me on some mission to get this new moisturizer that I’m definitely gonna steal from them eventually.”

“Pfft,” Claude snorted quietly. “Yeah, sounds about right. Send me the brand too, yeah?”

“Sure, I got you.”

Against his better judgement, Claude checked his phone, only to be disappointed when he didn’t see another notification from Leo. He unconsciously let out a small huff, one that Nayuta didn’t miss.

“So, eating with Leo again today, huh?” Nayuta asked with a tone that sounded a little too amused for Claude’s liking.

“Yeaaah?” Claude dragged the word out, suspicion swimming in his voice. “Why are you askin’ like that, huh?”

“Nothing, nothing,” the other sing-songed with a giggle. “It’s just… Y’know, must be nice that you guys can spend as much time together as you do now. I’m honestly more surprised that you guys didn’t move closer to each other sooner.”

“Yeah, well… That’s just how it be sometimes. I’m definitely happy it happened eventually though.”

Nayuta hummed, sounding happy for Claude too. “I’m sure.”

“Not– Not just because of Leo,” Claude paused awkwardly, “by the way.”

A laugh so earnest left Nayuta that he threw his head backwards, his sharp teeth glinting like they were as gleeful as he was. “Hey, I didn’t even say anything about that. Self report.”

“Just had to make sure you knew, man,” Claude retorted with a shrug that he tried to make casual, even if he knew he had already been figured out. “He’s been talking so much about Altus recently anyway. I swear, it’s like he’s got a crush on him or something.”

As much as Claude didn’t like to recall, he’s lost count of how many times Leo has brought up his fellow Australian at least once in conversation, and it bugged Claude enough to suddenly vent it out to Nayuta, for reasons he couldn’t really name. Altus, Altus, Altus, in that excited voice of his, the one Claude naively assumed was reserved for him. Leo would tell Claude about some time Altus helped a stray kitten out of a tree, or how cool he sounded when he was performing. Most egregiously as of late, when he princess-carried Leo as a joke and his duo gushed about how strong he was.

He could princess-carry Leo too.

The worst part? Claude couldn’t even actually hate Altus either. He respected him highly, on the contrary. The conversations they’ve shared made it clear to Claude that they’ve had similar experiences and therefore similar mindsets stemming from them, which, admittedly, added another layer to Claude’s worry. Even if Leo did feel the same way as Claude, there was Altus: the guy Claude joked was the “Aussie version of him.” Where did that put Claude?

“Leo? Crushing on Altus?” Nayuta’s voice suddenly cut through his mini-spiral with a tone Claude currently couldn’t put his finger on. “I mean, yeah, they flirt with each other a lot, but like… They’re kinda just like that. I’m sure you know that too. Besides, Leo’s–”

Before Claude could even begin to hear what Nayuta was about to say, he interjected with his own burning question. “You’re closer with Altus, aren’t you?”

Nayuta jerked so intensely that his knee hit the bottom of the table. “Ow, fuck!”

“... Woah, dude. You good?”

“I’m not close with that damn oni on purpose!” Nayuta sputtered with a flush, ignoring Claude’s question. He did find it a little funny how Nayuta, in all his calm and friendliness, would practically start hissing every time he was brought up in the context of him and Altus together to any degree. If Nayuta was allowed to just read Claude when it came to Leo, he didn’t see why he couldn’t do the same.

“Right,” he drawled teasingly. “Has he talked to you about Leo at all?”

Nayuta squinted at him, but responded anyway. “Yeah, he comes up, but not enough for me to think he’s got legit feelings for him. Most of the time, he’s telling me how much he wants me to– Nope, never mind.”

“Yo, yo, yo,” Claude raised an eyebrow. “Where was that going?”

“None of your business,” the alien scowled, promptly shifting the topic back to Claude. “I’m just saying, if you asked me, I’d say Leo’s pretty preoccupied with you.”

It was Claude’s turn to blush. “You’re just saying that, dude.”

“I’m serious!” Nayuta exclaimed, sitting up straight in his seat. “Like, obviously you’re not on the receiving end of it, but if there’s anyone Leo talks about a ton, it’s you. Hell, you could probably ask Altus and he’d tell you the same thing too.”

“I’m not doing that. That’s embarrassing as hell.”

“Uh huh. You act like you’re not the person who knows Leo best. You’re about to go on your nth date with him and you’re sitting here sulking while ranting to me because you think he has a real thing for Altus. That isn’t embarrassing?”

Claude pouted, not bothering to deny nor correct the “date” part, because he’d be lying if he said he didn’t like the sound of that. “Whatever, man.”

Ding!

da duo:

i’m here!!!! :D

i’ll be inside in a bit

hope u didn’t miss me too bad

www

Claude pointedly ignored the way Nayuta snickered at how quickly he picked up his phone.

me:

yeah yeah

hurry

da duo:

o7

“Welp,” Nayuta stood with a grin, patting his legs down like he had just neatly tied everything up with a little bow as Claude placed his phone back on the table, “looks like that’s my cue to go. Have fun on your date, Claude.”

“You’re real irritating when you wanna be, huh?” Claude laughed. “Thanks for the talk though.”

“Yeah, of course.” Nayuta’s smile softened into something more genuine, but it was short-lived as his next words came. “If you ever need someone to remind you that Leo’s pretty much obsessed with you, you know who to call.”

An eye roll. “Yeah, well, maybe I’ll pay a little more attention to the next time Altus says anything to you.”

“You…” Nayuta stretched out the u, “don’t have to do all that! See you!”

His friend dashed off, probably delighted that he had the last word. Shortly after Nayuta left, he caught sight of Leo walking in, scanning the area for Claude. When they made eye contact, Leo’s already sparkling pink eyes immediately lit up in a way that made Claude’s chest tighten.

“Claude!” he called out. “Sorry I’m late, man! Were you waiting long?”

“Nah,” Claude replied, already settling into their usual, comforting rhythm. He stared at Leo from across the table as he sat down, as subtly as he could. “Nayu spotted me over here, so we just talked for a bit.”

“Oh, for real?!” Claude’s eyes followed the way Leo’s mouth made an o-shape, and it was so adorable it almost made him mad. “What were you guys talking about?”

Purple eyes mixed with green averted their gaze from the effortlessly charming person in front of them, and Claude bristled a bit as pink slightly painted his cheeks. “Not much. Just random stuff to kill the time.”

“Yeah? We’ve gotta queue with him again sometime soon. Altus, too, if Nayu can drag him along. But, enough of that, I’m hungry!”

God, there it was. Claude didn’t respond, choosing to look at the food court menus instead. As per usual, Leo didn’t seem to mind, if his quiet humming and small smile as his gaze followed Claude’s was anything to go off of. He couldn’t be pissed for long, not when Leo looked like that. Claude knew it was silly.

Their food arrived not long after they ordered, and Claude allowed himself to relish in a few things. Altus wasn’t the one telling Leo that he’d have to suck it up after he whined that he was too full, because that’s how much he ordered. Altus wasn’t the one always finishing Leo’s food regardless, because Claude was weak to his duo’s whims like that. Altus wasn’t the one here with Leo right now, because Claude was the one who he chose to spend this moment with.

For now, that was enough for him.
