Here and now

Summary:

“Is everything alright, my beautiful love?”

Neuvillette sighs and nods, then does something he rarely does. He gets closer to the other man and hugs him, letting himself get hugged back more precisely.

Work Text:

Being immortal means you learn a lot about life and death and, still, the mere essence of such human experiences are like little fireflies in the night sky. Difficult and cruel to keep captive in a jar, quite hard to understand their fleeting time on his earth.

Neuvillette realizes humans are not that much different.

He’s seen babies being born and screaming their first cry into the world, he’s seen illnesses bringing too young maidens and strong lads away, he’s seen old grandparents being put to sleep to never wake up. It’s always a tumult of emotions and feelings he’d prefer not to think too much about.

One day, while he’s having his usual afternoon tea with his beloved, he notices something that he has tended to ignore all the other times. Wriothesley is sturdy, with a muscled and strong physique, and doesn’t look weak at all, but his eyes start to have little lines around them when he laughs and the same goes for his pretty mouth. Strands of grey hair are not hard to find either.

Neuvillette doesn’t panic, doesn’t think there’s any need for it really. But his expression changes a little and his darling human notices it, like he always does. He smiles at him tenderly, never inquiring too much, and takes one hand into his.

“Is everything alright, my beautiful love?”

Neuvillette sighs and nods, then does something he rarely does. He gets closer to the other man and hugs him, letting himself get hugged back more precisely.

“I just need some tenderness, I suppose.”

“Then I’m always at your service.” Wriothesley mutters in his hair, kissing him there with reverence and love. Neuvillette closes his eyes and in that precise moment, still in time, he knows he can forget about the nature of his life and the man he loves dearly.
