The Chaotic Life of Catnap

Chapter 52: The Typical Beach Episode

Summary:

Hey, at least we get to hang out at the beach. It’s relaxing. Plus, being in the water isn’t so bad if I’m on a floatie.

Notes:

Ayyyy the beach episode, yay!!!!!!!!!!

Chapter Text

It’s the next day of our trip. There’s no need to talk about the morning routine since it’s the same as yesterday’s. However, we’re heading to the beach this time. And get this, it’s for the whole day. I’m satisfied with that. I can just relax and bathe in the sun on a nice beach towel.

In the van, everyone has their swimsuits prepared underneath their normal clothes. I had my sun hat on too. There’s a lot of mixed emotions here. Poe and Baba were dreading the trip whereas Dogday, Bobby and Simon (surprisingly enough) were excited. Well. Simon was hiding that fact by acting nonchalant. Dogday and Bobby were chatting with each other about it.

“I’ve been waiting to wear this nice swimsuit I bought when we went to the mall! I wonder who we’ll meet up with on the beach though.”

“Hey, if you’re lucky, you might meet up with Hoppy’s group, eh?”

“Oh come on, that probably won’t happen. What are the chances?”

“Heh, I wouldn’t be too doubtful. Love brings about miracles!”

“That’s so corny, hehe.”

“Though I can’t deny that! I am a matchmaker after all.”

If we’re following a certain pattern, then we’ll definitely meet up with Hoppy’s group. I peeked over to where Simon was. He seemed to be indifferent about this trip.

“Having to go to the beach is much better than yesterday’s activities, but going with these buffoons? Sigh, at least I will outshine them all with my swimsuit.”

Sure. I won’t say anything on that matter because I have my bias. Also, did he just audibly sighed in his mind?

“Oh god, sand’s gonna get into my wool and I’ll have to scrub it all off when I get back! Ugh, good thing I bought a full wetsuit for this.”

A wetsuit? That’s a good idea. Though, you’re not going into the water, if I remember correctly.

“Yep! Not going anywhere near it! I am not getting sandy water in my wool! I’ll be relaxing under a beach umbrella with Poe!”

I plan to do the same as well. Though, I did bring a floatie just in case I want to laze in the sun.

The van stopped.

“Alright kids! We’re here at the beach! Here, you can learn about the ecology and history of the beaches of Hawaii from the signs posted along the stairway! I’ll be watching over you guys, so try not to vandalize or steal anything from here! Otherwise, you will be cursed, hehe.”

“It’d be really bad if they took something. Last time that happened, a horrible accident occurred! I pray it doesn’t happen to them!”

Noted.

We grabbed our beach stuff and made our way down some stairs. There were many shops around where we could buy ice cream and stuff, so that’s nice. While it is a beach trip, we will also go on a boat to see the ocean or maybe snorkel, which you know I will not be doing. I heard another van pull up, and as the doors opened, I heard running. In fact, it’s coming straight toward us. We turn around to see Hoppy fly down the stairs to hug Bobby.

“BOBBY!”

She managed to stay on her foot as Hoppy jumped onto her. She placed her stuff down beforehand when she noticed Hoppy, so don’t worry. They both laughed as she returned the hug.

“Hoppy?? What are you doing here?”

“I’m hanging out at the beach too, duh! I got me and my group here too! Looks like we’re gonna have a lot of fun today!”

Icky tripped down the stairs, tumbling down as Crafty quickly walked down to check on him. Allister just calmly walked down with no care or energy. The guide went over to him.

“Sir?! Are you okay?!”

“I’M ALRIGHT!”

Crafty checked up on him.

“Um, I think you have a concussion if the giant swollen bump on your head says anything…”

“A bandage will heal it up, no problem. Anyways, Hopscotch, I’ll beat you to the beach first!”

“Wait a minute! Let me help you out first!”

She held him down as the guide wrapped a bandage around the bump. Hi Crafty, how are you doing?

“Oh, uh, hi Catnap! I’m fine. Seems like we’ll be sharing the same beach.”

Sharing? What do you mean?

“Um, well, two groups will be sharing a beach today. I heard that Kickin and his group would be at a nearby beach with another group. I would say hi to him, but we have to stay where we are sadly. It’s okay, I can always see him at the resort!”

I mean, you could just sneak off. Not like anyone will stop you.

“No, I couldn't possibly do that. I like following rules. To be safe, you know?”

Fair enough. Icky was pulled back to his feet by Allister. He immediately ran over to the beach, but Hoppy already stepped foot onto the sand, which made him fall to his knees.

“Damn it, my concussion got the best of me!”

He quite literally denied that fact though. Allister looked toward Simon as the few background characters in their group passed them and smiled.

“Hi Simon…”

Simon blushed a little before looking away.

“Hello, commoner.”

Dogday and I looked at each other and just gave knowing looks before heading to the beach. Since it’s a private beach, thankfully, there’s a lot of room. The two background characters just chat with eachother as they went over to a random spot on the beach. I don’t know them, so I won’t be mentioning them. Sorry. If we were more lucky, we would’ve had groups with all our friends in them, but oh well.

Anywho, we’re now changing out of our normal clothes. I just have swimming trunks, so I was pretty quick. When I got out, I saw Dogday in the blue swimming suit he chose during our mall trip. Oh wow. He is… so… handsome… how did I not realize just how utterly stunning he is before? I feel my face burn at the sight. Dogday peered over.

“Oh, Catnap, are you done-“

He lost his words as he stared at me.

“Oh my god… he’s so beautiful… and stunning… and cute… and he’s my boyfriend… I’m one of the luckiest dogs on earth…”

Eh… I’m not that appealing, but it’s nice he thinks of me that way. His tail was wagging at a super fast pace as his face turned as red as a tomato. Steam was coming out of his head. Hoppy came out of the changing room in swim trunks and a swim shirt.

“Sup Naps? Hm? OH CRAP YOUR BOYFRIEND’S GONNA BLOW!”

What??? She went to grab a bottle of water and splashed it on him. The steam stopped, so I guess it worked.

“Thanks Hoppy…”

“Anytime bro.”

Poe and Baba came out of the gender neutral changing room in wetsuits. They took out multiple umbrellas and set them up in a way that there is just a large area of shadow for them to rest. Poe put on sunglasses and opened a poetry book. Baba watched the ocean.

“Nah, I’m watching ghosts of the people who drowned here and some pirates bicker with one another.”

Okay then. Crafty came out in a pretty fancy swimsuit. You plan on swimming?

“Not really. Maybe I might join in if everyone else does, but I just want to draw the scenery here. It’s very pretty.”

Seems like a lot of us are staying on land. Simon and Allister walked out next. Simon had some kind of designer swimsuit and Allister just had swimming trunks. Simon also had his hair tied in a ponytail.

“It’s okay, just keep on looking at a supermodel here~”

Allister, Dogday and I clapped (we clapped just to support him). Everyone else just gave him a thumbs up and continued on with their preparations, which annoyed Simon.

“Those little pieces of-“

“It’s okay Simon. You look fabulous to me…”

Simon blushed once again before going up to Allister’s ear.

“D-Don’t just say that in front of those commoners.”

“Ah, right, sorry. Wanna hang out in the water?”

“Hmph, I suppose.”

They made their way over. They suck at keeping their relationship a secret. It’s a good thing only me and Dogday were watching. Bobby excitedly made her entrance.

“Hey guys! What do you think?”

Hoppy immediately whipped her head around to see. Bobby was in a pretty stylish swimsuit with heart patterns on it. Everyone around her clapped. In fact, it almost sounded like an applause, even though there are only a few people here. That annoyed Simon quite a bit.

“Where was my applause?!”

Allister patted him on the arm as a sign of comfort. Popularity is quite a humbling experience.

Hoppy rolled back so far, she was fully in the ocean before she popped her head back up from the water, which made Bobby chuckle.

“Glad you liked it so much, honeybun!”

Hoppy smiled as she took a seashell off of her head and dropped it back into the ocean. Bobby ran over to her while laughing. Icky stepped out with a volleyball in hand.

“HOPSCOTCH! I challenge you to a volleyball match in the water! I’ll be sure to win!”

Hoppy and Bobby look over to him and then to each other before smirking. They nodded,

“ ‘Kay, sure! But Bobby will be joining me!”

“Deal! Allister, you join me then!”

Allister was free floating in the water while Simon watched. He opened one eye to look at Icky.

“Why me…?”

“Because you’re tall, obviously! Now help me!”

“I’m good….”

“God damn it!”

Dogday raised his hand.

“Hey, I can join in!”

“Oh, well, if you insist!”

He made his way into the water. I’ll just be sitting here on my beach towel with my sunhat on and admire him playing in the water. Crafty was next to me as she sketched in her sketchbook.

“So…”

Hm?

“I heard from Baba that you’re gonna tell everyone about your psychic powers. You’ve kept it a secret for a long time. Are you sure you want to do this?”

…Yes. I don’t want to keep any secrets from my friends, especially Dogday. Since we’re now dating, I want to be more open to him. I can’t keep this from him. He’ll find out sooner or later anyways. And my friends also deserve to know. I want them to treat me normally, yes, but I also want them to accept me for being a psychic. It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I can do it. I’ve been able to make friends, after all.

“I see… I will support you in any way I can! You’re my friend after all.”

Thank you, Crafty. I’m glad to have you as a friend. She smiled.

“I’m happy to know that. Now then, I’m gonna try and color this sketch with the supplies I have.”

Have fun with that. I look over to see what Baba’s been up to, and she looks like she’s burying Poe in the sand. A towel was draped over their head, making them look like a corpse. You guys just love doing that bit, huh?

“What? They wanted me to do this.”

I see. I bring my attention back to the volleyball game. Dogday and Icky were losing, which was to be expected. Hoppy was doing some kind of victory dance in between hits as she and Bobby continued their game. After one last hit, Dogday and Icky lost. Icky once again looked down in shame.

“Damn it, if it was on land, I would’ve won…”

“Sure, sure, keep dreaming buddy.”

Dogday excitedly went out of the water, shook all the water off and ran toward me. He reached his hand out to me.

“Wanna go in the water? I know you don’t like it, but it feels so nice! You can bring your floatie!”

Yes, I do hate water, but if I’m gonna be on a floatie with Dogday by my side, I don’t mind being on the ocean. I took his hand and we made our way back to the water. He placed the donut shaped floatie onto the water.

“After you, my precious kitty~”

What a goofball. I sat down, feeling water touch me a little bit. I had my tail on my lap, so it should be fine. Dogday guided the float through the water, a warm smile plastered on his face. This is kinda relaxing actually. I look over to see Hoppy, Bobby and Icky were all shooting at each other with water guns. If I’m not in the danger zone, then that’s good. We stopped at a nice spot, and Dogday rested his hand on mine.

“This is nice… Catnap has always hated water, but he seems so relaxed… I can’t help but admire it…”

It’s not like I’m fully wet, so I can tolerate this. I see a massive wave passing through. It’s a good distance away, so I shouldn’t be too worried. Hm? Is that… Kickin on a surfboard?

“WOAHHHHHHHHH I’M ACTUALLY SURFING DUDE!!!!!!!!”

Crafty saw him and instantly got up from her spot to wave.

“KICKIN, IS THAT YOU?!”

“CRAFTY!!! CHECK IT OUT, I’M SURFING!”

Hoppy just stared in absolute shock.

“How the hell did he…?”

“HAHA, TOLD YOU I COULD DO IT! ALL ‘CAUSE CRAFTY BELIEVED IN MEEEEE!!!!”

Bobby cheered for him as Hoppy just watched in shock. Suddenly, he became more wobbly.

“Ah crap.”

He flew out of the wave and landed face first in the water. Crafty immediately went into the water to check on him as the guide followed. The surfboard was falling toward them, so I secretly used levitation to safely drop it on the water. She dragged him up onto his board. The guide checked on him.

“Sir, are you okay?! Are you hurt?!”

“Y-Yeah, I’m fine dude.”

He went into casual mode and smiled at Crafty.

“Hey~”

“Pft, hi honey. Shouldn’t you be with your group?”

“Yeah, but I want to hang out with you…”

“The guide is right there.”

He brought Kickin out of the water and checked him over.

“Well sir, you seem to be all good. I’ll bring you back then!”

“Ugh, fine…”

“I don’t want to get in trouble with the teacher if she found out I tried to break the rules…”

Crafty took out her sketchbook and ripped out a page. When he looked at it, he gasped.

“Is that me?”

“I promised, didn’t I?”

“W-Wow, I don’t know what to say. You may be one of the best girlfriends ever! I love you so much!”

He hugged her tightly. She returned the hug with a soft smile.

“I love you too. You should get going then! I’ll meet you back at the hotel!”

“Yeah! See ya then!”’

She waved goodbye as he walked back with the guide. I watched all that from the water since I didn’t feel like moving. Crafty sat in the ocean. How did you draw him so fast?

“Oh, um, it was actually a sketch I did beforehand. It was just something I did when I was on the van ride here, but I guess I just have good intuition, hehe.”

I mean, you are a psychic in a way. Maybe you can sense the future or something.

“Nah, I’ve been drawing a lot of things, and I have been trying to see if that’s actually something I can do. Still, the only thing I can do is hear your thoughts specifically. Some ability, huh?”

Hey, you could develop that into hearing other people’s thoughts. Though, what you have now is probably a good thing. At least you can live normally.

“I guess. Oh well, I don’t mind the small ability I have now. I’m content with it. I’m not trying to be the super psychic of the world.”

That sounds like a terrible fate. That made Crafty giggle softly, which made Dogday tilt his head.

“She’s giggling. She must really like the ocean, huh?”

Sure, we’ll go with that. A boat came by and parked near where we are, which prompted the guide to clap his hands.

“Boat’s here! Let’s get on now!”

Poe rose from the sand like some kind of vampire.

“Must we go? I was making rather merry being buried alive in the sands of the beach.”

“Yep! Sorry, but I have to account for all of you! Plus, this is part of the schedule for you all! We’ll come back to the beach though, so don’t worry!”

They sighed.

“Fine, I suppose I’ll join in on this voyage.”

Everyone got onto the somewhat small boat and put on life jackets since we were just gonna be swimming in the ocean. There’s also scuba diving, but you know I’m not doing that. I think I’ll just stay on the boat. Anywho, the boat started up and we were now on our way.
