Chapter Text
Bow went first.
He was the most normal out of them, it was bound to happen. He had been surrounded by his family, and he was smiling the entire time.. both his and Glimmer's kids had been there, as had Catra's and Adora's after having moved out years ago. A good chunk of the princesses was gone as well, but their kids visited their uncle Bow one last time before he said goodbye.
Meanwhile, Glimmer had found out she was, in fact, immortal, and while it broke her heart when she learned, she felt like nothing could ever lessen her pain the day that her husband died.
She still had her mom, her dad had died years ago, but now she knew what it was that her mother had felt.
Adora and Catra pushed through, but only a little. Adora had magic and the power of She-ra flowing through her, and Catra's body lasted as though she still had her nine lives.
But they weren't immortal.
Adora's thinly pale hair and Catra's cracking joints made it clear.
They would have to leave Glimmer as well, only slightly comforted by the thought that at least Angella was still with her, and would be for all of eternity.
It was a lonely image for the both of them to think about, to see their friend so alone. But Glimmer had finally accepted it. She thanked Adora and Catra especially. For having brought back her mother to help her.
Help her deal with the loss of her friends- her family.
Today was the day, Adora and Catra could both feel it. Tears welled up in Glimmer's eyes the moment they told her.
They just knew.
The rush of energy they got the day before in their now brittle bones was the sign. They hadn't felt like that in ages and there was no other reason.
"I'm going to miss you two so much."
"We will too," and Catra meant it with everything she had.
"Hey, Glimmer? Don't stay sad forever, please?" Adora couldn’t bear the thought that Glimmer would spend so much time mourning the people she’s lost.
"Yeah Sparkles, go out and visit your kids, meet the other princesses, have tea with your mom. And remember- I'm leaving Melog with you, they can help too." Catra would miss Melog as well, but she knew they were in good hands with Glimmer. She wondered if they would bond with anyone else. Hopefully, they did.
"Take your time, don't let the days blend together for too long, okay?" Adora, Catra, they all knew what it felt like to lose friends and family, but they were Glimmer’s last.
Glimmer nodded as she held a sob in her throat, tears spilling from her eyes.
"You promise?" Both Adora and Catra had to make sure.
"I promise."
They had one last hug, one that Glimmer would remember and cherish forever as they teleported to the Fright Zone.
When they let go, Adora and Catra gave her one last smile before turning away and going to their spot. It was the high perch where they had spent their childhood talking and laughing in the Horde. They felt it was right, coming around full circle to where it all started, and it held happy memories for them now. When Scorpia had finally finished rebuilding they had come back and reclaimed it as a comfortable space, putting small pillows and boxes of snacks there among the foliage. They couldn't climb up anymore, not like they used to, but Melog carried them like kittens all the way up whenever they asked.
It wasn't much, but it was theirs.
They sat down, Catra leaning on Adora's shoulder as the couple took in the view in front of them. Trees spread out for miles and the kingdom was mostly empty right now. It was quiet but if they focused enough, they could make out the comforting hum of machinery in the walls.
So much had changed, but this still felt familiar.
"Adora?"
"Yeah, love?"
"I'm a little scared"
"That's okay, we're staying together, for all of it."
"Okay...I love you so much, Adora." Catra whispered it, only for the two of them to hear, tears in her eyes as she looked at Adora one last time.
"I love you too Catra, so much... I'll meet you up in the stars," Adora whispered back
"You promise?"
"I promise."
Smiling, Catra finally let her eyes slip closed, her head still on Adora's shoulder as she took her final breath, her last life all used up.
A tear slipped out of Adora's eye as she smiled down at her, "I'm coming with you, love."
The last of her energy left her, and Adora was comforted by the fact that with her gone, She-ra was going as well. No one would have to deal with the burden any longer.
She closed her eyes and felt herself fade, dozing off into the stars.
Finally, she opened her eyes to find Catra smiling softly in front of her.
"Hey, Adora."
