Comment on Something Borrowed

  1. Sorry to hear about your brother, can't even begin to imagine the grief that you felt. My condolences.
Thank you for continuing to write and publishing the third one in the series. I have such love for this particular piece, you really took me to Midvale, Mandy's wedding and back.
Your prose is beautiful, really dig your writing style. It flows seamlessly describing emotion, place, and thoughts.

Lena continues to be an elegant billionaire she is in this chapter, I googled her car and it suits her. I just think sometimes she wasn't portrayed as *that* rich in other stories. It's nice to see her flaunting her wealth every now and again.
Eliza sounds like an amazing mum in this chapter, and I like how you portrayed her through Kara's eyes - she's never tried to be her mother but loved her all the same.
Amanda's backstory and how it ties Lena and Kara together is so endearing to read, talk about serendipity.
Just curious though, do you intend her to be a bi character? Trying to piece together who she is based on both Kara and Lena's respective flashback.
Mandy knowing Kara's secret was a nice twist, and it's great that Lena has someone other than Kara who treats her like a normal person.

The Supergirl reveal? My god, turning rock into diamond was one of the most original I've ever read. They were so soft and gentle with one another, and funny how they're thinking the same about each other. Love the intimacy they shared.
Can I just say that Kara seems so dapper in this chapter? I like watching her slightly inebriated and casual. I love the little nod to NB characters in this wedding and the first one.
This was a beautiful piece, and maybe if you're ever interested to continue this, would love to see Kara and Lena's actual wedding.
Take care and look forward to read more of your works.

    1. Thank you for your condolences... it's been a weird time and I don't know if I'm better or if I'll ever be better, but moving forward is all I can try to attempt.

It boosts my ego so much when anybody says they enjoy my style! I have no idea what my style is. I'm still trying to figure that out, trying to refine it as I go along without actually knowing what I'm trying to refine, but it's wonderful when people comment about it. I worry, too, about the consistency of that style, since I'm not quite sure what it is. In this longer piece, I was especially nervous about it. But I seem to have done a pretty good job. Or at least, people have voiced that I've done a pretty decent job!

I know it's because the CW doesn't exactly have the allotted budget for SG but I would love to see Lena a bit more rich. And not just, buy a company on a whim, rich. I mean elegant in the mundane, rich. Luxury in the minutiae, rich. Does she probably drive (or hire a driver that drives) a brand new something or another? Yes. But I like to think she has things, collects things that she wants just because she can. Just because she can afford it, so she can take it out for a spin a couple times a year. Does she throw a rollerball into her bag and call it a day? Probably. But I imagine she also sits in her home office with her mid-century modern furniture and signs papers and writes notes with a highly sought after Namiki Maki-e fountain pen (which can run you about $2,500 and more). Or the art piece in her bedroom is an original, commissioned painting by someone she met in Paris. Or that she collects first edition prints of her favorite books. Not overtly flashy things (I feel that's more Lillian's speed), but the things she cares about she'll spend the extra money on.

Amanda was an idea that was very near and dear to me. It's nice to see her so well received! I did worry. A great deal, actually. She was more involved than any other OC and I really worried she might have got in the way of the story. I had to cut out a bit here and there, but what I left her with I feel pretty happy about.

She was intended to be a bi character! I still go back and forth between whether or not Amanda really did (or did not) have a crush on Kara. I think that when she says "it wasn't really a crush" is true, but that it's also true, what she says about her and Kara's interactions. I think at that age she didn't really spend the time to think too much about it, but knew that there was a level of relationship between her and Kara that was too complicated for middle school students to fully comprehend. I like to imagine Mandy thought about Kara a lot her first year at MIT and that she joined G@MIT to try and parse out those feelings.

And listen, if some random dude can see Kara save a plane and know she's Supergirl, Lena can, too! I mean. Amanda can too!

The diamond thing was a spur of the moment decision to include, actually! I remembered that Superman does it a bunch in the comics and I always wanted to see Kara do it. So I thought, why not write it my damn self?

I tried really hard to make Kara seem dapper and fun! I love all the butch!Kara headcanons coming out of the fandom on Tumblr lately, and I'd planned to put Kara in a suit months ago when I was outlining this fic! She's just so fun in pants and a button down. Krypton flashbacks always have women wearing these long gowns. I like to imagine Kara came to Earth and was like "holy fuck i LOVE pants" and that explains the extreme variance in her wardrobe.

I'm running out of characters left, but I just wanted to reiterate how grateful I am that you took the time to read my work and leave a comment. Thank you thank you thank you! I have many ideas for Kara and Lena and I hope I can muster the motivation to write them ALL!

You said it better than anyone can! Thanks for the reply about Amanda, it does put things in perspective when I re read the story. I hope you'll continue writing Kara and Lena for a long time too! Take care!
