  1. This was awesome. I can't imagine Kara being able to "move on" if something happened to Alex, and I could so easily see her hang up the suit. As you pointed out in the fic, she Alex was the catalyst for Supergirl in the first place. As much as I sniveled over Alex's heroic death... It was Kara's comment on Jeremiah that hit hardest. "Complicated". Yeah, that's a good word for what he became.

    1. Agreed! I feel like she'd still feel beholden to the public - like she still needed to fight and to save them - but if her lost Alex...she wouldn't be Supergirl any more. She'd just be Kara, dressing up in a red suit and embodying the Hope she doesn't feel any more.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Jeremiah is a difficult, complicated person, as Alex said. I loved the idea of him persuading Cadmus to bring Alex back to life as the perfect weapon - he's using them to keep his daughters alive even after all this time, but he's still willing to sacrifice all morality to do it. He's willing for Alex to become a weapon against aliens, so long as she's alive.

(Alex's death is something I thought about a lot, as a side detail. I knew Kara had to be held back for it, and I knew I wanted Alex to due saving Kara. But I didn't want a "jumping in front of a bullet" moment, where she knew what her fate would be, and I didn't want a long Dying Speech scene. I wanted it to be sudden, and a surprise to both Kara and Alex.

She just yanked Lex's gun to the side. There was no way of knowing that the bullet would hit her. She was just protecting Kara. That was what I wanted, that suddenness - and I'm glad it tugged at your heartstrings.)
