Has been a long tine since I watched Smallville. You could change a lot and I would never notice it. One thing I remember is being irritated with Jonathan and his ideas about Lex, and even more his concern about Clark. I like how you got that with Clara as well. And yeah, the scenes between Clara and Lex are cute, when she asked him out and their dance at the end. Loved it.
Thank you for commenting! And yes, I too was quite frustrated with Jonathan's stubbornness and pride, which sometimes caused more problems than not for Clark. Here, his rejection of Lex and his assistance has more to do with what he suspects is Lex's intentions towards his daughter. It's not that Jonathan is particularly astute, just that he's not blind to Clara's beauty - even if Clara herself is - and he's suspicious that a grown man is hanging around his underage daughter. Of course, he's still quite prejudiced towards the Luthor name, and his pride will also not let him accept any offer of assistance from anyone regardless of their last name. He actually gets called out on it quite thoroughly in the next chapter, so hopefully you'll enjoy that!
