This is a fantastic start and your plot-driven, cinematic style is perfect for this AU. You have such an eye for the motion of things, body language and how we all move and react, from the thud of boots on the deck to fingers playing with the smooth metal of the rungs. It's little descriptive details that just flesh out the images so that they jump from the page - anyone reading this can picture what mermaid Karen looks like in a heartbeat. I love that she slowly unfolds herself as the shock wears from her system and she learns to trust them (and yay Curtis, i love him so much and I'm glad he's here fixing her up and being the first member of Team Oh Hell No We Are Not Telling Madani Shit.
There is mystery to them both, the briefly hinted at backstory of Frank (and the parallel of losing air nice nice) and Fisk's mer...napping of her from her home. Who are her friends that Fisk threatened? What kind of mermaid is she like what are her powers does she know people does she live on land WHAt DO ?!?!? And in this mystery they already start to come together in shy smiles and just being drawn to each other, each for reasons they can't yet explain. The growing of comfort and trust and little touches, especially at the end of this chapter where you can tell that, already, Frank is one besotted son of a bitch. People are gonna lose their damn minds over this fic.
THANK YOUUUU. i always feel like it could be too much but then i'm like NAH read about how her fingers flex! see the way his eyes flicker, the way a jaw clenches!
all will be revealed SOON. thank you for this review oh my gosh.
