Aw, thank you so much for leaving such a kind comment. We had a great time writing this fic for ourselves and this very small, exclusive club of people each year who watch or rewatch Tombstone, get up in their feelings and suddenly, urgently need this pairing.
And I'm with you: it is impossible to overstate the absolute depths of Doc and Wyatt's dynamic in the film - I would not be at all surprised, on Kilmer's part, if his note from the director was, "Play it like a lover."
val seems to have somewhat of an affinity for making his characters a little bit, or a lot bit gay so i wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who actually wrote that note himself (see: kiss kiss bang bang where according to an interview it was literally his idea.......oh and top gun 🙊🤭 🙈). also apparently kurt had to pretty much take over as de facto director pretty early on the production, so y'know if that note was from the director, it was just an excuse by kurt russell to have val kilmer make lovey eyes at him.
