Comment on Against All Odds

  1. How BEautiful! I love the three trials fairy tales so seeing it with Hualian is a treat
there is so much to love here
first of all the Whole cast is amazing and I love that yoou took the time to expand them and that they have a place. And that Both Hua Cheng and Xie Lian have support networks that show up. Mei Nian Qing as Xie Lian's father figure is an interesting choice, I got that sense in canon but rarely see it in fanfic so him being the chiding but still affectionate Teacher/father substitute to Xie Lian was a great detail. Xie Lian's friends, with this protective guards and his fun loving and great hairdresser friend Shi Qing Xuan was a nice touch. He is surrounded by key people that love and care and honestly to some extent interact with him and then having all of them so so protective and invested in his life creates a pretty good image. I also just really like the SQX gossiping session because really i think we all need a friend like that. Jun Wu as the conniving background puppet master is fitting and very plot relevant so kudos for using him in that way! I didnt expect Gu Zi and Lang Ying!!! That was an amazing detail and wow I would LOVE to know how Hua Cheng ended up with them. I also love the detail that when Xie Lian marries Hua Cheng he also adopts two kids already. Ive always seen Xie Lian liking children and small cute things. he would love having a ready made family. And the Pig Chef and Chicken Chef from canon was also a nice addition. calls back to city master Hua Cheng. i squeed when I read what Xie Lian decided on a fake name. Lol

The trials themselves were very fitting for Hualian. TGCF really established thier love in what you would see as mundane things, sharing each other space and time, doing things together, being comfortable with each other and most importantly being seen by the other. Xie lIan in canon had a problem with image and finding someone to interact with that would see him. and not the state of him so to speak. Doing things that truly appealed to Xie Lian in answer to his questions and in the date. Seeing him and calling him as such. Seeking Him as the Goal and not the throne. Seeing thier love unfold here, was as thrilling as canon did and a bit more satisfying since they didnt have to wait 800 years and through so many hardships just to be with each other.

and the last sentence was Perfect, I was always unimpressed with the idea of the wedding as the "best day of your life" or the crowning glory of a marriage because it should be nothing but a start, a start of a life with the love of your life at your side. And having that ending implies so Many Bright Futures it ends the story but not their love. Its Perfect Ending to an AMAzing story

though I also like to think that Hua Cheng helps Xie Lian (and Mei Nian Qing because I honestly cannot see Xie Lian ruling without his guidance) root out Jun Wu's influence.
