This version of Howard and Vince are so lovely, you have created such a magical, beautiful world that is both exciting but also feels like just the slightest bit dangerous, it is incredible, idk how you are doing it, like seriously, so good!
that being said
HOWARDS LITTLE FLAPPY TAIL IS MY FAVORITE THING, I JUST LOVE THAT IT HAS ITS OWN MIND AND HE CAN'T CONTROL IT. I know its just like the smallest little piece in the wonderful story you are creating but like "There’s a rhythmic thumping that he distantly registers must be Howard’s little tail flapping against the ground." and "It’s wriggling around in it’s joy" and Howard blushing because he can't hide how much he likes Vince is just, it just makes me actually giggle with happiness. IDK why i love it so much, i think it must be the idea of Howard trying to be stoic and his little tail gives him away? who knows, i love it tho.
okay but back to the rest of your story? i felt so bad for Howard finding out he was tricked, 5 years later but it is clearly still a sore point for him, and Vince just being this source of understanding and positivity, and the whole scene with them in the field and Howard making a flower crown, that was so well done, it had the serious elements to it but also then Vince was running around drawing things and i was like yessss this is totally him.
AND YOU ENDED ON A CLIFF HANGER WHY HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US??? i cant wait for the next update!!

Honestly, I am so okay for you to come to the comments and screech about the tail. I love writing Howard tail moments. It's brilliant. Howard tries to play it cool - tail. Howard pretends he's angry - tail. It's brilliant to write and I could not be more happy people are receiving it this well (also Captainfoxgloves did a little comic about Howard's tail that inspired me to include it in the story, which you should check out on their tumblr!)
Alas, I am a simple writer, I see a cliff and I must hang the story from it until the appropriate moment comes to hook it down and fix the emotional mess I've made. Seriously tho, not long until a next part, don't worry!
