Seeeeeek I’ve been looking forward to this fic ever since you first mentioned you were writing it, and it’s FANTASTIC. The way you capture the complexities of grieving is just too good—the line about the Parkers understanding how to navigate a loss is so painful and accurate, and the way both May and Peter’s first thought is to attend to other people’s grief before their own is so true to character. Peter feels so lost here, coming to terms both with the loss of his mentor and living in a post-Blip world, and yet he’s still so GOOD and so caring.
I love, love, love how you explore the whole “meeting your heroes” thing here, too, and how complicated and nuanced that is—the sense of regret and anger and grief that Peter feels about his relationship with Tony, and what they shared and didn’t share, felt very real, and is a take on their relationship that’s probably more accurately rooted in canon. I appreciate it so much.
And STEVE! The idea of him retiring and being both resigned and at peace...SO GOOD. Steve checking up on Tony’s young superhero charge for no other reason than he knew Tony cared about Peter, and that Peter might need someone to talk to, was the Cap I know and love. It felt straight out of the comics. Absolutely love this fic, thank you for sharing!!
