I started rereading and oh how i love this, all the moments of subconscious metalbending (and earthbending / affinity to the element) make me so gleeful!

For once, he knows how Azula must feel, how effortlessly prodigious, because after a few months the sword seems to move on its own, like it’s pulling his hand and not the other way around.
He grabs his opponents’ swords from their hands without breaking his own skin, he slashes through armor like it’s only silk cloth, he throws the knife Uncle sent him with precision even Mai envies-
(isn’t it obvious, the whole mechanism rattles loud every time the tumblers fall into place)
