Comment on Hot Dogs - short jimbert sex stories

  1. Well you had me at “soft beard” 😹

In all seriousness, I find this piece really interesting because I do subscribe to Jimbert, but I always felt their emotions must have come to fruition and materialized rather slowly because they had a whole lot of tension brewing between them - I mean the way I see it, a lot of their early live performances were so laden with electricity, lots of lingering stares etc etc. which suggested longing.. but I never knew when the moment was that they became so symbiotic. But based on this piece, do you think Jimmy understood right away? I always thought he took longer to “figure it out” so to speak while Robert was already there from the beginning.

I also think Jimmy is the dominant one in the partnership at the beginning and then maybe to me anyway it switches - so I like that Jimmy seems to hold the power at this point (all bearded and beautiful)!! In any case, I really like your style, these one-on-one narratives, they really draw one in to their little intimate word. I’m having a blast reading through them tonight! 💕

    1. 😆 oh gods that beard - keeping track of their facial hair in early Jimbert takes a lot of work 😆

So? when do I think they became them?
Well I tell this in the stories Push Push in Robert’s POV and Riff from Jimmy’s - and my headcanon is that Jimmy knows first but fights it, but by the time he seduces Robert it has been in everything they have done on stage and in the studio for months.

So here Jimmy is re-writing the fantasy as one in which he was braver and more in control than he really was. And yes, at this time Jimmy is the master and Robert is his boy, not so much in what sex they have (I write them as switches and I don’t think Jimmy is a Dom in bed - only in the studio ☺️) but in their creative partnership - and like you say I believe that changes over time. I actually think the flux and shifts in power and need are what make them so compelling to watch.

Them IRL? I write as close to what I ‘read’ as real as I can, but Idk when they physically became lovers. I think what we see is their public selves and all Zep are highly skilled in crafting their own lore to protect their inner lives. I think even if it was early then they still lived a state of longing (as we see in concert etc) because they were continually held apart by circumstances. That’s a dynamic tension I think.

Thank you so much for your night of reading - I’m answering your comments backwards 💕 with much appreciation and thanks and delight.

      1. I joked with moonie that we should do a beard time-lapse so we could document its’ rise and fall - wouldn’t that be so useful 😹 It’s no surprise you’ve got such a knack for bringing the detail to the forefront of a piece. I like how you explore the minuscule in this relationship.. it makes Jimbert feel very real and intimate because those little details are often what we notice and cherish on a person we love 💕 *hears Bonzo saying “Ohh God”* 🤣

I think their dynamic is so fascinating for the same reasons!! How interesting that you don’t think Jimmy is a Dom in the bedroom...I have always been confused about it.. he’s very complex himself!! I think we hear what we hear, but I also think he’s very good at illusion and display (well he is our magician), and I think he protects his mystique very well, more so than Robert even. I think his charisma and confidence on stage is very fascinating and I don’t know how it translates into other areas of his life.. while he is a control freak there is such a sensitive passionate artist in him and I think that’s the part I noticed the most (those few interviews we have with him in the 70s you can so clearly tell he eats sleeps and breathes music!!)

I think it would have been fairly easy for him to seduce Robert musically and emotionally, I think Robert was very impressionable at the start and Jimmy was a lot of things by that point..

Well I’m rambling on now and I don’t know where to.. your responses are so thoughtful and really get the mind going 🤗

        1. Well I’m happy to talk here or discord etc I mean I love these sorts of conversations.

HC about Jimmy’s sexuality - umm well controversially perhaps I’d say in general het reading is him as Dom and queer reading is him as a bossy sub. In my experience people who have lots of control issues in their work are often subs in sex and Jimmy has said he is a masochist. Jimmy is all about trances and altered states and none of his serious female paramours report him being into kink at all - though he was obviously very manipulative in the sense of having people besotted with him and where he wanted them.
On gut instinct and experience - I never saw a more subby guy in my life ;D
In Jimbert - well Robert is neither s/D imo - so that’s an interesting dynamic. As Robert said of Jimmy’s magickal mythos - ‘who am I to say the guy plays cricket?’ But what Robert felt about Jimmy - he’s been telling everyone who will listen for decades. Does he like him? no, he loves him. He’s umbilically connected to him. He is proud of him. Have you heard the tribute Robert did for the Kennedy Centre awards with Obama?

ok HoR listen party in 32 mins. I best stop scribbling

I also think Jimmy is, in his work, much more controlling of detail and quality than people - he was (is?) an incredibly good collaborator when it gets the results he wants and he is harder on himself than any other being. Robert said he was ‘hard to handle’ in their beginning but I don’t think Jimmy was a bastard - more that he was driven, obsessive, exacting - and probably quite socially awkward and shy and easily overwhelmed with people. G knew to protect Jimmy and Zep in general so they could create. I think Jimmy picked Robert because as well as a singer he needed someone who was his opposite in many ways - but a junior opposite to begin with - not a rival peer like Jeff Beck but someone who could front Zep in a way Jimmy could not. An acolyte.

I can go on at length - stop me ;D

          1. I won't stop you as I think it's nice to see someone go on about something they are passionate about :) I think you should say as much or as little as you like..by me it's all well received!!

I enjoy reading your perspective and it makes sense to me. I noticed too that all his paramours say he was completely normal in the bedroom, so then I wonder if the kink thing (if it is true) was just done out of boredom and general jadedness with sex...I also read (was it from Miss P?!?) that he liked to chase the women he was interested in - why on earth when he didn't have to I don't know!! A fiend for seduction? Traditional? The manipulation is a power/control move in itself isn't it? Ah there are so many questions 🙈

Your last point about Robert as an acolyte is interesting as I was just reading about the dynamics between Jeff and Jimmy in the Yardbirds, and how Jimmy usually lost to Jeff when it came to leading the live performances. With Zep Jimmy had the control (there I go again) and the rest of the band was hanging onto his every move...but I think you're right that it was always about control of the music, the narrative, the lore (I kind of like how he's never addressed the rumours), and all that, and less so control of the others. You don't hear much about infighting regarding Jimmy 💛 I'm sure his obsessiveness was difficult at times but overall it was about the music with him.. then again he wasn't really in a state to stir up much into the late 70s...😓
