    Hi hello I clicked into this fic Just To Check It Out yesterday and then spent almost my entire work day mainlining it. And then today I've been peaking back in to reread my favorite parts. This is fantastic. The characterization throughout this, even as Rodney and John go through hell and change and adapt, is phenomenal. It was really like, "yes, this makes sense, this is exactly how they'd react to this, exactly what they'd think of that" just all throughout, from the actual torture to the slow recovery. I love the different POVs you have all thoughout this, and the practical takes on complicated issues (Ford's culpability and also what brought him to make that deal, and how John's allowed to not be okay, and at the same time Teyla realizing they can't let concern override knowledge that he DOES know what he's doing). And competent!Heightmeyer! And actual permanent physical ramifications, that are just there, and they figure out a way to work with them! And I get 137k whole words of this and ace!John, and idk if that has ever happened before, and I am so happy. A+++ thank u for writing.

      Can I just say, I wrote this to work some stuff out, it was in my head and I needed it out of there. Writing it was actually really hard because I was determined to Get it Right, and that meant at one point scraping the entire ending (and writing a new ending that turned out to be the last 100 pages or so.) And since posting it, i've now reread it multiple times, mostly because somebody made a comment that made me go "Wait, somebody wanted to talk about *that* part?" and I had to go back to kinda hold their comment up next to the stuff they mentioned.

      So the fact that you picked up on all that stuff in there and found that it's actually noteworthy and worthwhile? I cannot tell you how awesome that is. (literally, i sat on trying to work up a reply for two days!)

      tldr - YAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a good grade in writing the thing!!!!!! <3 I'm glad you enjoyed!!
