Comment on This Bud of Love

This short story is delightful, and much needed in the Northanger Abbey section of fandom (a pitifully small area of JAFF indeed). I like the way Henry's thoughts flow from one moment to the next, very self-aware but also lacking in full comprehension, concerned but not alarmed, and already probably deeper in than he realizes (though not quite to the level most authors would like him to be). The little touches all add to this dreamy, zippy thought process: the ellipses right before "Reasonably certain" say so much with so little, as does the repetition of "He wasn't sure what to think about that," with only that little extra emphasis to show how his thoughts have progressed. The acknowledgement of how little he worried when in her company, and the pleased/ridiculous dichotomy, feel perfectly right for the start of the story, and the "figure it out tomorrow" not-decision is just right for how the story will progress. It's a wonderfully self-contained self-reflection, though I'd of course love to see more from other parts of the story if you get inspiration. As has been stated, we need more NA in fandom.

    1. Thank you so much! Whenever I write anything for Northanger Abbey, I expect the audience to be small - and that's fine because I write for my own amusement. ;) I certainly don't expect to receive such long and thoughtful comments, and yours was a delight to wake up to. :)
